Hello

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LolaAnn · 22/10/2009 16:52

Ooops just fixed so my pic is actually visible.

Oh SnowBunny1 that sounds awful. My midwife was fairly disinterested too but at least she asked me the full range of questions... although mine told me not to do any excercise (have ignored) so I wouldn't fret too much about the running thing the general consensus is that you can as long as you don't feel like you are pushing yourself.

Changing my EDD and adding scan date.

Hollyoaks · 22/10/2009 16:53

Hi all

Snowbunny welcome to the thread, what an awful mw. Will you have her all the way through? I would ask to see someone different, surely you shouldn't be filling in your own notes?

lola & lizzie congratulations on the scans.

Well, just as an update dn has been off the cpap over night and all of today. She's had some phototherapy for mild jaundice and has been screaming all night for a feed. The nurses had to hold a dummy in all night to shut her up. All good signs .

On the negative side I was sick for the first time this morning and much to my disappointment didn't feel any relief afterwards, still felt sick all day .

LuckyC · 22/10/2009 17:27

snowbunny She sounds like she is not up to scratch. Can you see someone else? I don't feel at all confident about her and that is just from reading your post!!!

hollyoaks glad to hear that DN is feeling better even if you aren't...

Good stuff on the scan lola - mine next week. Very nervous now and actually having nightmares about it

Oooh, guess what, I have WORK until mid-Nov at least. Massive relief! DH suggested we have curry tonight to celebrate. Yeah, right! I am having crackers again and he knows it.

LolaAnn · 22/10/2009 17:35

Oh LuckyC good news on the work!!!

I've been having heaps of technical tests (am a software developer) and embarrassingly have not been doing very well.. just can't think straight!!

lizzie9442 · 22/10/2009 17:35

lolaann - tried to look at your scan pic but went to your profile and there is no pics. i'm prob just being blind lol xx

alexw · 22/10/2009 17:40

Dear all, please reassure me I am not being overly hormonal about this. Got home about 10 mins ago to message on phone saying my scan TOMORROW first thing has been moved to next Tuesday - no reason why and no one there when I called back. I left a message saying that I was unable to make next week as am on holiday (flying on Monday) and it was booked to accomodate this scan. So I think I will just turn up at the appointment time and wait... AIBU? Oh, and I have a history of miscarriage with haemorrage and am therefore keen to check this one is ok (am 12weeks exactly today)...

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 22/10/2009 17:49

Welcome to the thread Snowbunny, sorry about your midwife. Is she going to be your midwife all the way through? I think you are allowed to change them but not sure.

Alexw - YANBU, that's very annoying, for you.

memorylapse · 22/10/2009 18:38

Snowbunny,,I dont feel very confident about your midwife either

however..re your thyroid..I have underactive thyroid..have done for 8 years..its vital that your thyroid function is closely monitored during your pregnancy because the challenges of pregnancy usually mean that your doasge has to be regularly changed, you should have your
TSHFree T3T4
checked once a month, ideal TSH during pregnancy is under 2.

my pre pregnancy TSH is usually about 0.2 and I feel at my best when its under 1..but by month 4 with dd2 my dosage had already been upped by 50% and by the end of my pregnancy I had gone from 100 mcg a day to 250 mcg a day.

Please ring your gps tomorrow and ask to speak to a gp, its vital that your thyroid is monitored monthly. Unchecked thyroid function in pregnancy isnt good.

memorylapse · 22/10/2009 18:41

Alex..no YANBU..I would be seriously upset if my scan was put back

Since I am new to the country (I am a postgraduate student here), all your posts are really extremely interesting for me, so everything is so different here. I have my booking appointment on October 29 and my first scanning on November 9. That time I will already be in my 15th week, and I think it is too late. Will they also tell me the sex of the baby on this scanning appointment?

Wish you best to all of you and I am really very happy that I joined here and I have YOU now .

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 22/10/2009 19:01

Hi Tamuna - that does sound like a late scan date, I think the first scan should be between 11-14 weeks or something. I think they're unlikely to be able to tell the sex of the baby at the first scan, they may be able to tell you at the second scan which you should have at around 20 weeks. It depends where you're based though, different places seem to have different systems.

Welcome to the thread

pamelat · 22/10/2009 19:52

Hello and welcome Tamuna

I could also be 15 weeks at my first scan. I have been told its very busy where I live (Nottinghamshire) and that dating scans are running up to 16 weeks. I have been told that it will remain a dating scan and I will find out the sex at the second scan, can't remember when that happens, around 22/24 weeks?

All - I took 21 month old to be weighed today (for the first time this year, it was more something to do!) and it was full of little babies. I came over all emotional (and terrified) and had to stop myself from sobbing . They are so little !! I had forgotten.

itshappenedagain · 22/10/2009 20:09

evening all and welcome to all who are new!
well im very nervous about tomorrow, and am hoping to see live baby moving about( everything is crossed!) am also hoping that i will relax a aliitle more after this and be able to focus on something more than babies...need to get my house all sorted out for christmas, seems like i have done nothing for weeks.
glad to see so many having lovely scans...will put up mine if all ok.
ill post as soon as im back tomorrow.

memorylapse · 22/10/2009 21:04

good luck for tomorrow itshappenedagain

Den26 · 22/10/2009 21:20

Hi All,

Welcome to those who have joined us...

Hollyoaks - glad to hear your DH ok and congratulations for becoming an aunty!!

I had another scan today - i am 9+2 today. Was so so nervous about it as lost last baby between 8 and 9 weeks. But today there is was and heartbeat going strong!!! Was so relieved so now counting down the days until next scan!! Have my booking appointment next wed and date for next scan should follow.

Glad to hear about the other positive scans too. Itshappenedagain - goodluck for tomorrow

Memorylapse - hope all of your troops are ok and you are taing care of yourself

Snowbunny - i would definately see about getting another midwife, you have to have confidence in who you are working with.

Oh well, i'm off to bed early...one more day of work until weekend - thank god!

sweetkitty · 22/10/2009 21:38

Evening all nothing much to report here feel boring writing I feel rubbish all the time. Had some terrible news today, a Mum I know well from M&T had a baby boy 6 weeks ago by csection as she had GD, he was 8lbs odds but his lungs were underdeveloped even though he was 38 weeks I think, anyway he couldn't come off cpap, over the weekend he took a turn for the worst and died yesterday. I started crying at the school gates when I got told today, I was talking to his Mum last Friday. Feel so so sorry for her. Sorry if I have upset anyone but it's so tragic. Just after that I reversed into a big stone slab thing at nursery, just moved a bit of plastic on the car though no damage.

I suffer from anxiety but am currently not on meds, driving is one of the things that brings it out at it's worst, I hate driving as it is and am about to get a 7 seater argh!

Sorry thats a bit me me me tonight

Am thinking I first felt DD3 move Christmas Eve 2007 when I was 12 weeks little flutters, which was lovely as I had been bleeding and the bloody EPU refused to scan me "if you are mcing theres nothing we can do about it" true but not very nice. I phoned up again day after Boxing day and lied that I had had more bleeding and got a scan and she was fine. Oh first timers I didn't feel DD1 move until 20 weeks, it gets earlier each pregnancy stomach muscles shot to pieces.

it'shappenedagain - best of luck for tomorrow

memorylapse - how's you DS?

pamelat - theres 2 and 3 week old baby boys at M&T and they are SO tiny, utterly gorgeous

heffa - nice to "see" you hope you are feeling better soon, we all need the MS fairies to come and take this away from us all now

tamuna - welcome to the thread and congratulations

snowbunny - that sounds a bit rubbish really, mine went over a lot with me and it's only been 15 months since I had the last one

Viv - you will have to get one of those minimiser bras

lolaann - great news on your scan

memorylapse · 22/10/2009 21:47

Sweetkitty..thats so sad..Im crying just reading your post
I can remeber when I was pregnant with dd1..there was a lady on the ward whose membranes had ruptured at 22 weeks..they kept her going till 30 weeks then delivered him. he was doing really well and she was hopeful..after I had dd she came onto the ward and I asked her how the baby was..she told me he had died..I felt so dreadful stood there holding my newborn while her baby hadnt survived..she had come onto the ward to thank all the midwives who cared for her ante natally.

Thanks for asking about ds ..hes on the mend but ds1, DH and DD are are ill..GP is treating it as suspected swine flu and has told me to phone up as soon as I get symptoms..they will give me Relenza as my kidneys should be fine.
DD2 had a temp of 39.4 this evening

HO great news on your niece, must admit I was lost when you said she was screaming all night for a feed, is she nil by mouth?

Snowbunny that appointment sounds shocking, just like they took the absolute basics. I had an under active thyroid in my last pregnancy causing me to get really dizzy and low BP but they said it wasn't quite low enough to treat (it was the lowest number of the range of normal). Are you on medication for yours?

Welcome Tamuna where are you from originally and what have you been studying? 15 weeks does sound a bit later than the average for your first scan but like pamelat says in some areas they are really run off their feet.

Alex I would just turn up for the appointment as well and say your phone has been out of charge for a couple of days...

sweetkitty · 22/10/2009 22:12

ML - sorry didn't want to upset anyone I have been in tears all day, poor woman she also has a wee boy who is nearly 3, when she had him by ECS, thye nicked her bladder and she ended up with a catheter and then had an infection and I think she was in hospital for 4 weeks or something, it's so awful. Makes you think how lucky you are, I moan like hell about the SPD and heartburn and stuff but I can birth babies well and we both are ok.

Yorky · 23/10/2009 08:33

Morning all
So sorry to hear about your friend's little boy, it happens so rarely now that it seems much worse.

Good luck today itshappenedagain, hope it all goes well for you. I still have nearly 2wks to wait for my scan [impatient]

Welcome Tamuna, I think you're very brave moving country and having a baby at the same time! Where are you from and where are you studying? What are you studying? [nosey]!
Sorry to anyone else I've missed, brain not doing very well this morning

How can a 2yr old have so little sleep, create so much washing and be so not tired in the morning? DS was sick 3 times last night, his bed, our bed, towel on settee and then we sat and cuddled and watched baby einstein for hours
He seems fine this morning, I'm even more tired than normal

tamuna · 23/10/2009 10:28

Morning all,

Originally I am from Georgia and I am studying Human Resource Management at Manchester University.

To be honest, I am considering to return to Georgia and give a birth there, cause doctors are really much more helpful there. I mean, you do not have to wait for an appointment (scanning or whatever) for ages, and all your concerns are treated with more sympathy..... I do not know, maybe I was unlucky, I still need to wait until my booking appointment and first scanning.

Besides, I was really shocked to hear that I will have leave the hospital and to go home in about 24 hours after giving the birth, cause in Georgia you would normally spend 4-5 days, after the normal delivery...
Everything is so different here, and doctors seem to be so careless.... Maybe it's because, it's my first baby and I am so alone here, but I am still so worried.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 23/10/2009 10:36

SK - that's so sad It does make you realise how lucky we are.

Tamuna - it does sound like you've been unlucky but I do hate the way we have to wait so long for a scan over here. You don't have to leave the hospital within 24 hours, I was in for 3 days last time. Sorry you're having a difficult time though, it must be very hard being so far from home.

AnAngelWithin · 23/10/2009 10:56

morning all. Feel very poorly so I have barely got the energy to do anything, I will reply in detail another day. Got 3 out of 4 children throwing up at the mo and feel like I'm next. I daren't eat in case! I have such a sick phobia I hate it

memorylapse · 23/10/2009 12:27

nothing to report here..12+3 and me and my sick bucket are still very good friends

alexw · 23/10/2009 12:35

Morning all. Back from hospital. They agreed to fit me in in the end. All ok baby flipping around all over place! Glad I stuck to my guns. Hope everyone else fine. Due date changed to 9th May though so will adjust stats.
