Tamuna, would not worry re having to leave hospital early after birth, most people do choose to but you don't have to. I stayed 2 nights out of choice with my little girl, basically because I was terrified of caring for a little baby . Its good to ask to be kept in to be shown how to breastfeed (if thats what you want to do) etc.

All. Like I had said, have felt so much better in this pregnancy but over did it this morning. I went for a swim (DH is off work so had DD), then met a friend on the park. Was feeling peckish (despite my three slices of toast!!) but had no time to snack (unlike on my work days ) when quite suddenly I felt faint and simply had to go home and eat. I really could not have stayed on the park any longer. Thats what going for more than 2 hours without food does to you!!

Hollyoaks · 23/10/2009 13:59

Hi

brightredballoon dh is being fed with a feeding tube as they said she is too young to successfully coordinate sucking, swallowing and breathing and there's a risk she could choke. They've given her a dummy to improve her suck reflex and increased her feeds but she won't be allowed to feed normally till 34-35 weeks and shes only 31! Frustrating for the little one but good news for us.

SK what a sad story, it reminds me of when ds lost her little boy last year at 28 weeks. She is now friends with lots of the midwives and as a family we've raised over £3000 in his name which has been donated to the scbu where he was born and to a support group for parents and familys who have lost little ones. I think it helps the parents to remain in contact and some of the midwives have even come over to the larger hospital where dn was born to say hello.

Congratulations on the positive scan. I would love one quickly but there's no denying this pregnancy is progressing well with this greenish glow, miniscule appetite and extremely strong gag reflex. I was gagging at the radio this morning and had to turn it off as Joe Swash was counting how many cocktail sausages he could fit into his mouth, bleurgh.

cupcakefairy · 23/10/2009 14:20

Afternoon everyone

I am 10+2 today and one week to wait til scan...bit worried that it's before 12 weeks though but just so anxious to see if everything is ok.

sweetkitty so sad about your friend's baby
I get anxiety attacks too and also hate driving.. that's one of the things I'm v nervous about with having the baby, cos I know I'll have to drive way more (dh does all most of it atm)..hoping I will gain confidence

That list is getting rather long! Welcome newbies saw on another ante-natal thread (yes I lurk on them sometimes when bored ) that they re-started their list so it was more accurate. We should do that in our next thread as loads of the list don't seem to be posting

Hope everyone's feeling ok today

brightredballoon · 23/10/2009 15:03

SK I am sooo sorry I cross posted with you last night, I went to bed straight after posting, please don't think I ignored your post. How terribly sad, I am lost for words, it's such an awful thing to happen.

LolaAnn · 23/10/2009 15:12

Tamuna hi I feel very similar to you. I just moved here and then surprise, there is a baby in my belly!! How old are you and when are you due?? I'm definately going home to New Zealand to have my babe, I can't bear the thought of being without my family and friends and everything at such an important time, and like you our medical system is much better.

For example in NZ we have this system called birthcare. After you give brith (in a hospital orbirth center, wherever) you get to go to this place which is like a hotel with drs/nurses for 3-4 days or more if you want to pay, and they help you with baby, you get a private room or a double for your partner, and its really nice and modern and comfortable and they show you how to breast feed etc and make sure you are okay.

LuckyC · 23/10/2009 15:45

Good news alex - enjoy your trip next week!

Lola that birthcare thing sounds amazing, can I come to NZ with you?

Better than Zimbabwe (where I am from), where my friend broke her arm really badly a couple of months ago and her mates had to drive around all over Harare trying to beg, borrow or steal pethidine for her for painkillers as there were none in the hospitals and she had to have a huge op.

So TBH I feel lucky to be here...

sweetkitty · 23/10/2009 15:45

Tamuna - I do think you had a bad experience with your MW the first time. I am the opposite I hated being in hospital, I wanted to go home the day DD1 was born but she wouldn't feed so I had to stay in until 5pm the next day by which time I was in tears, I came home for a night and had to go back in as the baby needed phototherapy for jaundice. My next 2 babies were homebirths and I felt I recovered and settled in with the baby much better. Although reading about the NZ system of hotels it does seem tempting

alexw - great news about your scan

hollyoaks - glad your DN is doing well, so sad about your little nephew, hopefully DN will be home soon with her family.

cupcake - thats a good idea next thread we can repost our details make sure they are all correct

brightred - don't worry about it

I think I am feeling worse each day instead of better feel terrible today and have a chesty cough thing today as well.

Oh better go DD3 has just walked back and smells less than fragrant, there should be a law against changing smelly nappies when you have MS

pigleychez · 23/10/2009 15:48

Sk- How awful for your friend That must be awful!

Trauma- Its amazing how different it is in different countries. I pretty sure you could stay for a few days if you wish. I stayed a few nights with DD But that was more because she has Jaundice.

Alex- Glad you still got your scan this morning and that it went well.

Just returned from my booking in appointment at the hospital. Took about 1.5 hours. DD was so good, sitting nicely looking through an ELC catalogue and scoffing loads of snacks I had packed to distract her!

Had bloods done which bloody hurt!! I was so suprised to just walk into the blood lab though... Usually have to wait ages. Good job too really as DD was starting to get tired. Bit shocked to sit listening to the two ladies having a good old gossip about the young teenage Pregnant couple who had just been in before me!

Found out from the MW abit about DD's birth. Seems she was back to back and was manually turned with the vontouse. They tried 3 times before using the forceps to get her out. I never knew that! Theres a leaflet in my pack about chatting to a midwife about debriefs so tempted to go for that to see if theres anything esle I didnt know about!

Going to be closely monitored for GD now as I had high sugars last time and my dad has since been diagnosed with diabetes.

Anyway Scan is now booked for Nov 3rd! Very exciting!!

memorylapse · 23/10/2009 16:17

welcome to all newbies

I feel so poorly..why is my MS getting worse? Ive got this vision of me still throwing up when Im in labour...I cannot exist on a diet of crumpets..I feel so run down

LolaAnn · 23/10/2009 18:30

memorylapse you poor thing. this probably wont make you feel any better but my SIL just had her first DS and she had horrific morning sickness the entire 9 months!! Don't know how she survived. It did ease off a bit after the first trimester, but really she was still being sick once a day or so. Then when she started going into labour she was vomiting

Yorky · 23/10/2009 19:40

LolaAnn - at least it was her 1st, how people cope with violent sickness and a toddler I don't know. Where in NZ are you from? My Godmother lives in Waipu, about 1.5hrs N of Auckland, we went to stay with them for our 1st anniversary and DH is so tempted to exchange his commission I know it won't happen while his Grandma is still here though, but she is 92 (is that really bad?)

No actual sickness here, just an uncomfy tummy - I don't know if I'm hungry or eaten to much or a bit nauseous, and sooo tired.
Off to my parents tomorrow, really hoping Gran will be a novelty and I can have some time off.

memorylapse · 23/10/2009 19:42

oh god..Ive a funny feeling that will be me too..I had a terrible pregnancy with ds2 and after 14 weeks it eased off enough for me to enjoy normal life as it were..but I would still throw up in the evening right up to when he was born

LolaAnn · 23/10/2009 20:00

I too am in awe of anyone with MS and DC to look after :/ sounds awful.
yorky im from Auckland

sweetkitty · 23/10/2009 21:25

Mine is getting worse as well, maybe it's because the hormones are at a peak just before the placenta takes over, a last hurrah so to speak and next week it will go away (clutching at straws emoticon).

I'm having panic attacks about coping with 4 just DP and I, my scan is at 1.30pm Friday same time as DD1's Halloween parade so going to have to change it. Everything is just so difficult (sorry to moan again)

itshappenedagain · 24/10/2009 09:18

morning all! sorry to hear about all the sad stories, it must be awful for their parents.
on a lighter note, i took 2hours and 40 minutes to book in yesterday. all is well i was sent for scan firstthey have changed my dates again...now 11+6 and due 11th may. have been put as high risk pregnancy this time, as midwife said it should have been the same when having my DS, but seemed to have overlooked my previous history.
also found out that my last labour lasted just under 4 hopurs, so they have said that i will prob have to go in quickly( want a homebirth if i get my way)
hope all the rest of you haveing your scans soon are ok nad not getting too impatient.
take care xx

tamuna · 24/10/2009 09:55

Morning all,

I also feel sick all the time and spend as much time as possible in the bed.

LolaAnn, I am 28 years old and am due to May 12. And it is my first pregnancy. What about you? Where are you based in the UK? Do you also study here? As I mentioned, I am also considering to return to my homecountry. do you know until when it is safe to have a flight? I was told, that after 7 months of pregnancy, you will not be allowed to take a flight.

pamelat · 24/10/2009 11:02

Lolaann, at some hospitals in the UK, it is also possible to do that. Nottingham City hospital for example, have a maternity hotel and at £25 a night (fully catered!) you and your partner with newborn can stay. I did this. I know somone who stayed 4 nights, she said it was easier than going home and having to cook . Different areas must also do it, its just most people want to get straight home.

All - am full of cold. Was awake for about 4 hours in the night just coughing and bunged up and finding it difficult to breathe. DD obviously then got up at her usual time (why do the clocks have to be back tonight ) and am shattered. DH has taken her out for an hour but its just me and DD all afternoon. I really hope she has a nap. She is only 21 months but seems to be dropping her lunch nap already.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/10/2009 11:19

Hello folks, just took ages to read through all the posts and have now forgotten everything I was going to say Glad you're all mostly ok, sorry to hear some of you are still suffering badly with MS, and dc's with swineflu, partners in crashes etc - doesn't sound like fun!

We are mostly ticking along ok, except I'm very breathless and finding it hard to breathe - tbh I'm not sure whether it's anaemia, asthma or a chest infection but something's not right, so doctors for me next week I think.

Just found out that my hospital charges £50 to find out the sex of the baby, and they won't do it at the 20 week scan, you have to book another scan 3 weeks later - this sounds like a bit of a scam to me, so considering swapping hospitals since both are pretty much equidistant from our town.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 24/10/2009 12:12

alexw - congratulations on the scan and well done for sticking to your guns

Lola - that birthcare thing sounds amazing! Although the midwife led unit near us is quite like that - you can stay with your partner, they don't make you leave, the food is great. I'm hoping to be transferred there after this birth. Wish I could pay and have a guaranteed bed though.

Pigley - glad your booking-in appointment went well. Debrief sounds like a good idea, I've been quite keen but never heard of them around here.

James - that does sound a bit about the extra scan and £50.

Morning sickness and a toddler is a nightmare, I'm finding it so much harder than last time. Hoping it will ease off around 14 weeks like before. My mum was sick all the way through with me - I feel so bad for her (she already had two and was working FT)

LolaAnn · 24/10/2009 12:42

Tamuna I am based in London, actually we are trying to move house but at the moment we are in South Woodford. Are you in London?? If you want to meet up I have lots of free time You are due 8 days before me And it is my first too.

I'm not studying I finished my studies in NZ so came here looking for work really. But I don't have a job yet.

As for flying, it depends on the airline. But most will allow you till 36 weeks. There is a travel forum here and that seems to be what most people say.

pamelat that hospital you mentioned sounds wonderful! good to know the place I'm talking about birthcare, you can be transferred from any hospital or even choose to have your baby there, but then the government pays for you to stay for 3 nights.

James the $50 sounds ridiculous (sorry no pound sign on keyboard)... that is very expensive!! I would definately look into changing to another hospital.

twentiethcentury wow I hope your sickness gets better soon, you are amazing to be coping with it and a toddler!!

Well I told my family back in NZ last night and everyone was so happy for us which was really lovely. My dad was sooo excited, already started trying to get me to book a flight back, haha!

memorylapse · 24/10/2009 13:03

James-I would definitely get along to the gps about your brathlessness..that sounds worrying.

TCH- its horrible dealing with sickness and a toddler..DS2 was only 2 when I was having dd2 and I had to have friends take him to and from playgroup.

Sweetkitty- I keep telling myself that its a last surge too..but not convinced

today I will be mostly languising in bed..DM has begrudgingly agreed to have the two younger DC'S until tomorrow evening.
I was really sick last night before I went to bed and my throat still feels sore..the cyclizine isnt really working so im not taking it anymore...have a private scan booked for tomorrow...am really nervous
Im 12+4 today

AnAngelWithin · 24/10/2009 13:12

james our hospital does that too!! then £10 for 3 photos and £2 parking. =£62....i cant get a private one for £65 at babyvision!

suey2 · 24/10/2009 13:18

Morning all.
James I'm really breathless too, and have been for weeks. I put it down to low bp. Also, I bet they have that rule re finding out the sex to stop folk aborting if they don't get their choice.

No sickness here, but still feeling lousy. Looking forward to getting some energy back!
