BexJ78 · 06/11/2009 20:41

hi all, saw mw today for 36 week check and head is 3/5 engaged! eeek.
only three days left at work. cannot wait! hope everyone's ok.

Mybox · 06/11/2009 20:55

VicMac - I had a cs with my second & they tried to turn her at 37 wks and I had a cs at 39 wks as she was a breech. I had the position checked in the operating room just in case she moved - but she hadn't. Good luck with this.

ViktoriaMac · 06/11/2009 22:22

Thanks Mybox, I'll just be glad for a healthy baby!

ViktoriaMac · 06/11/2009 22:23

Oh and LittleMonkeysMum, my dad thought our scan picture looked like a cat (it does not!!!).

mwncigirl · 07/11/2009 09:50

Hi everyone, not posted on here for ages but been keeping an eye on things!! Had a worrying call from receptionist at GPs asking me to go for urgent blood tests. She couldn't tell me why so spent a worried sleepless night...... everything has been going fine so far, I'm 33 weeks.

Went to surgery, nurse said I had low platelet count, seemed funny a I'd seen the midwife the week before, she had last test results and hadn't mentioned it then. Nurse had no idea of the implications of this in pregnancy. Checked on internet and mine are 149 ( normal range 150 to 200) SHould I be worried? What does this mean?? They made me take the bloods to the hospital because they wanted the results urgently but no one can tell me anything. I know I'm probably panicking but......first baby and everything.

Anyone else knows what this means??

LaDiDaDi · 07/11/2009 14:08

I wouldn't be worried about 149 given the normal range.

I expect they are concerned because low platelets can be a sign of a couple of pregnancy type problems, HELLP syndrome being the most worrying but it doesn't sound likely given that you are generally well and have been since these bloods over a week ago.

Platelets can often clump together in blood sample bottles, as that's sort of their job in your body, and then if the numbers of them are read by a machine it appears to the machine as if there are less of them than there really are as the machine only sees each clump rather than each platelet iyswim.

Mybox · 08/11/2009 19:48

Just 5 & a bit weeks to go - feeling huge so could be earlier - who knows!! Have everything ready but feel the need to organize things. Anyone else like this?

TheBlairSnitchProject · 08/11/2009 19:56

I keep asking DH to get the baby clothes down from the loft so I can wash them but he won't do it while the rooms still not finished!!

It's clear now but we stil need to take the big wardrobes down and paint.

I'm beginning to panic now!

Only 6 weeks to go!

mwncigirl · 08/11/2009 20:51

Thanks LaDiDaDi, much more informative than the nurse!! The medics round here don't think they seem to care if they worry you or not.....

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 08/11/2009 22:34

Not posted for a while - keep forgetting about this thread, which is daft cos re-reading reminds me we all have the same worries and sharing helps!

Just been away for a long weekend in Norfolk with DH to do the Christmas shopping. Got the majority of it done. Mind you, am completely shattered. My hips are in agony and eyes want to droop from about 5pm, but at least I don't need to do another whole days shopping again, just the stocking presents to get now.

Haven't packed a hospital bag yet (although did throw a few bits into a separate bag when we went away, just in case anything happened). Should get onto it soon, have mw appointment on Thursday to discuss Homebirth so should kick me into action. Like many others on here, have fingers crossed for an early delivery. At least I will know where I am on Christmas Day and can concentrate on making it special for DD.

Have recieved another scan appointment for 36wks. Apparently this is routine for ladies who have a high BMI when they book in for their original mw appointment. Sort of looking forward to seeing Baby again, esp this far along. But don't have much faith in the reliability of these things as a friend got told her baby was going to be 8lbs, and turned out to be nearly 3lbs more

Anyway, fingers crossed for the 1st Festive season baby to be born soon

madmissy · 09/11/2009 11:20

been while for me too! 6 weeks to go today for me

had loadsssss of BH yesterday was so uncomfortable!

need to get the hosp bag packed got the bits just need to sort it out!

he has dropped now and was 4/5 at last check a week ago and from what i have been feeling he must have got lower...

2nds and 3rds- its that awful scratchimng digging feeling! ouch!

Kingsroadie · 09/11/2009 12:57

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well! 36+5 now. Had a midwife apt t 36+1 and measuring 2cm smaller than average. But they weren't worried as they wouldn't send me for a scan unless I measured 3cm smaller apparently. Am fine with a small bump! Although baby was estimated to be weighing above average at the private 28 week scan we had so am sure she is fine!

Midwife wrote 2/5 on my notes - does that mean 2/5 engaged or 2/5 palpable (ie 3/5 engaged)? Anyone know? Find it a bit odd that I now have appt at 38 weeks and then at 40 weeks - would have thought I might have a weekly one by this stage...? Also GP has never measured my bump - he just asks how many weeks and writes the same no of cms. Should I get him to measure it at 38 weeks given I was 2cm smaller at 36 weeks?

Having lots of BH at the moment - esp when I have a full bladder - they have been waking me up in the night for the past few nights. Be good if the little one made a slightly early appearance - here's hoping!

Anyway hope everyone is well and not getting too fed up - not long now...

anniebigpants · 09/11/2009 13:01

Hello ladies, im in such a good mood as am now on maternity leave, yeyy! I left a week earlier than originally planned as was finding the commute and hours a struggle, im 37 weeks tomorrow, where has the time gone
Hospital bag is packed but i want to split it down into smaller bags so stuff is easier to find.
Got mw appt tomorrow and im hoping babs is engaged has he wasnt at last appointment 2 weeks ago, but i feel like he has dropped, and people are commenting my bump looks lower.

Im off to find our due date list so i can tidy it up and take off people who havent posted in last couple of months, they can always add themselves back on when they come back on here.

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 09/11/2009 13:34

Thanks Annie you reminded me I had 2 bags last time to take into hospital. The first mainly had labour stuff ie nightie to give birth in, snacks, birth plan, baby first outfit and nappies. This was the one we took in with us when we first got into hospital. Nice and compact and didn't get in the way while I was labouring. The second bag DH bought in once I was about to be moved into the post natal ward and had more baby outfits, more clothes for me, cotton wool, maternity pads, books etc. Meant we didn't had a huge bag with us getting in the way, you know how little space you get by your bed.

Possibly helpful to all those expecting their first?

BexJ78 · 09/11/2009 13:34

I know Annie, I am in a good mood because i finish work in 3 days! Yipppeeee!
Even though I am 36weeks now, my MW still only sees me every fortnight until I get to 40 weeks. She did measure my bump this time, and it was 37cm and she also weighed me, but said everything was going really well and to keep chilled about it all and the result should be good!!
Received a letter from the surgery on Sat about swine flu jab. Think i will work on the basis of ignoring it for as long as possible...the ostrich mentality!
Hope everyone is keeping well.

anniebigpants · 09/11/2009 14:03

Good afternoon,

Has anyone else stopped work earlier than 36 weeks? I stopped at 33 +3 for a number of reasons: was really starting to struggle with 2hrs driving on top of long day, struggling w tiredness and although only working 3 days a week, spent the other 2 in bed until at least lunchtime recovering - usually I bounce out of bed at 6 am so vv unusual for me and I do locum fill in work so didn't want to take on a job more into the future and then find that I couldn't attend at last minute. In my line of work, reliability is a key factor and word soon gets around if you have to cancel last minute.

Am now feeling guilty reading about everyone else who is carrying on up to 36-37 weeks. DH is lovely and says he would have preferred it if I'd stopped weeks ago but am still feeling bad. Has anyone else stopped this early?

GoldenSnitch · 09/11/2009 15:38

I didn't go back to work after my son was born 2 and a half years ago and I've still found it hard this time.

I've sat here more than once feeling very sorry for or having great respect for those managing to cope with a toddler, a job and a pregnancy!!

I'm not sure I could have coped.

OP posts:
AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/11/2009 15:43

I have just gone crazy and tidied my whole entire flat. Ive not really stopped since about 8:30 this morning. PROPER tidying not just a quick flick around with duster, which is what I have been known to do lately. Under beds, stripped beds cleaned windows, hoovered everywhere, mopped everywhere.
I EVEN CLEANED THE FUCKING OVEN!
Im currently packing my bag because when I went this mental last pregnancy I gave birth not long after. I also have very uncomfortable "bearing down" pressure in my fanjo. This maybe due to the fact ive been overdoing it all day but it still seems strange.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/11/2009 15:44

Cant believe I just used the word "fanjo" I must be a proper mumsnetter now.

GoldenSnitch · 09/11/2009 15:46

Oooh, could ABF be our first 'Popper'?

It's getting exciting now!

I had a dream that Catherine arrived early last night - while we were at Center Parcs! I'm hoping it stays just a dream!!

Ha! Now thats been said I will probably be the last!

BlueChampagne · 09/11/2009 16:39

Cor "Ferret" - and are you still bouncing? I had a rotten night on Friday with baby boogeying all night, but last couple have been better. 1 month tomorrow ...

"Snitch" - honestly I find it easier to be at work than at home, but then my job is mostly desk-based. It's the SAHMs, pregnant with toddler than get my admiration. Last day is planned to be 4th Dec unless baby has other ideas. Hurrah for Christmas shopping online!

BlueChampagne · 09/11/2009 16:40

Oops - should have used asterisks not inverted commas - sorry ladies. Put my glasses on next time.
