June2009 · 21/06/2009 20:18

we're going to need to think about a new thred title soon, so who's still got the required brain cells for it?

lauraloo09 · 21/06/2009 20:23

it's a bit quiet on here now, hopefully some of the ladies in waiting are off giving birth...unfortunately i'm not one of them.

june sorry to read about your BF troubles, hopefully things will get better for you and Calypso x

In laws took me and DH out for a meal tonight (indian) and it was lovely a nice hot curry so here's hoping it will help get things going. For past hour I have been in agony but nothing i cant handle, except constant ache is annoying me lol, but DH is quite concerned so he is trying to get me to go to hospital or call them, think he is worried if waters go and baby not engaged that it may cause distress to baby, also over past hour had even more thick clear discharge and constant feeling like bottom of belly is going to explode...not a good feeling

I have a consultant appointment tomorrow which i am dreading, not slept properly since friday due to what midwifes were telling me, having constant nightmares of waters breaking and cord going round baby's neck so will discuss this anxiety with consultant too as well as the reason why me and 2 brothers were all sections due to mum's small pelvis...never know might book me in for a section although i would like a section for this to be over i would still like to avoid this if i can as i was looking forward to a natural birth.

Sorry for the me me me post xx

evening all

silk, lovely story, so pleased everything went well!

june, scar care, best to keep clean and dry as possible. Showers are supposed to better than baths, avoid getting too much soap on it and dry well after, hairdrier on a low heat setting does the job nicely as no rubbing is needed. And try to get some air to the scar, especially if you're getting hot and sweaty Wear loose clothing and big knickers to avoid anything rubbing or irritating. Some people recommend arnica for the bruising but haven't used it. Your Calypso is gorgeous, hope you're enjoying all the cuddles. Whatever you do, don't overdo it

Doris, sorry to hear about the colic, that's no fun.

Hope all with sore nips find they heal quickly

Looks like we might be in need of a new thread for the last few ladies Sending you positive labour vibes

Hope everyone's had a good fathers day! I found Edward an I heart my daddy t shirt for today, he looked so cute!

waves to all

bigcar · 21/06/2009 20:32

see what I miss, typing one handed

june, sending you ((((hugs)))) hopefully she'll be up all night feeding! At least you have a good supportive midwife by the sound of it. Hard and lumpy for a scar is normal

laura, it'll be your turn soon hope all goes well tomorrow

worriedamy · 21/06/2009 21:35

hi everyone, internet has now completely died, so back to using my phone for the net! Still no baby here so looks like I'm going overdue unless he arrives in the next 2 hours! Congrats to everyone who has had their babys- lucky people!! Sorry bit of an impersonal message, but its a bit difficult on my phone to flick through posts!! Keep your chin up lauraloo, I'm sure everything will be fine xx hopefully will have the net back soon, so will be able to do a proper catch up! Stay positive all you ladies in waiting!

Tee2072 · 21/06/2009 21:57

june the one advantage to having him in SCBU is that I had several days to heal before he came home. So my scar is fine. I had self disolving stitches, so no need to have them out.

My MW advised soaking in a bath for about 20 minutes with 5 drops lavender oil, 5 drops tea tree oil in about 20mls of baby oil. Cleared right up the bits of my scar that were a worry in one soaking.

I am not able to breastfeed. I'm getting nothing no matter what I do. So Adam is on Cow and Gate.

ermintrude13 · 21/06/2009 22:09

I'm feeling a bit guilty about keeping you mummies on this thread when you should be on antenatal but still no baby here... Lauraloo sounds like you might be on the way, I really hope so. I have those cord around the neck nightmares too - unfortunately shared them with DH who is now terrified it will happen. MWs always check once the head is born, and unwind it straight away, so am trying not to get hung up about it. Equally, waters going doesn't cause distress to baby; will prob make the head go lower naturally. I think we worry as part of displacement.

June hope the milk comes in; I think dealing with post-CS recovery and a baby who's not interested must make everything more tricky. MW doesn't sound v encouraging though - there's a lot of pyschology involved so she should be being a bit more sensitive I reckon. Glad Calypso has had some food and sleep - hope you get some rest too.

bunny I meant to say, Cordelia is a beautiful name

Night all

MrsMcJnr · 21/06/2009 22:10

Sorry folks, not got much time tonight but will catch up tomorrow
Silk ? ah congratulations hon on the birth of Eleri
Choccie ? hope you are ok hon, sorry to hear about the birthday party and your DS
Bunnymother ? lovely name
Bunny & Naat - I know how it feels to have cracked, sore and bleeding nipples with bits missing, that was me with DS, for the first 10 days I cried whilst I fed him and dreaded the next feed. It was excruciating. I started using protectors but to be honest I wish that I hadn?t used them for so long. They totally destroyed his latch and I was never able to give them up again and I found that stressful. This time, I am a bit sore but nothing like as bad and I am trying the tactic of air drying my nipples as much as I can and not using any creams. So far I am getting on better. I have the Medela Swing and thought it was great (not used it yet this time) I hope getting a few feeds off helps you recover quickly so you can ditch the protectors. At the end of the day, your babies are getting a health bonus every feed and you should be proud of your perseverance
Naat ? sorry to hear about all the bureaucracy, I can empathise!
Take care everyone

Tee2072 · 22/06/2009 09:56

Very quite around here...is everyone else off having babies?

ermintrude13 · 22/06/2009 10:16

Morning all! 'Fraid not Tee - had some promising cramps last night but they came to nought. A friend just popped in for coffee and we bemoaned the notion of the 'due date' since both of hers were 10 days 'late' but clearly in fine form. Cooking times may vary. Clearly I just don't have a fan oven .

MrsMc has Aaliyah's cold gone yet? Hope your DS is calming down, and that the situation with pusscat is being resolved. x

lauraloo09 · 22/06/2009 10:18

morning everyone!

tee you're right very quiet...hopefully people are off having babies and i think i might be one of them soon

TMI ALERT earlier this morning i barely made it to the loo so decided to put on a pad. well about 5 mins ago i think my waters went as couldn't control leak and pad is filled now so maybe today is the day but the pad colour isn't clear it is kinda yellowy in colour dont know whether waters should be clear or not any mummies around to advise??
Only thing is i'm not really having any pain just now so kinda confused x

OP posts:
June2009 · 22/06/2009 10:30

laura call the midwife she might want to check the waters if it did not come out clear.
If you still have the pad you can bring it to her.

fingers crossed it's happening for you :D
My waters leaked as well before I went in labour :D

Naat · 22/06/2009 10:34

Oh flash post
Laura, if u think it was ur watersn call MW and let them know asap, as they will tell u how to proceed

Hope this is it for you!!! Sending birthing vibes!! (((Hug)))

Posting from blackb, sorry for the semi text speak.

Will post properly now if possible, at the embassy now!!!

Naat · 22/06/2009 10:54

Hi Juners!!

Well, down south since yesterday. Now at the embassy in what seems to be the longest wait ever haha.

I've tried to catch up so hopefully I will write a decent post.

Mrsmc, hope dd is better now and that you've found a solution to tia's situation (((hug))) thanks for your advice re nipple shields

Silk, wonderful birth story!! Yay for you!! Can't wait to see some pics.

June, so sorry to hear about calypso's feeding... I really hope you can get all the support you need to help her feed (((hug)))

Tee, we're leaving a small lamp light on, because I feel just the same, that it's too dark and cannot see her

Doris, sorry to hear about dd's colic. Mila showed signs of that on day 3 and infacol has helped wonderfully, thank God. MW suggested not eating anything that would make me windy or fizzy drinks. No idea if that would help, but thought I should tell you. Sorry if you already know this.

Bunny, nipples are healing, thanks to the shields, which were a real godsend. I was crying so badly every time she fed and dreading feeding time so even if it's not the best thing to do, I felt I had to. Feeling guilty as well, though, but I guess we cannot help to feel that way...

Ermin, worried, louise and laura (or maybe not), hope babies come soon!!! We're not leaving you behind, so don't worry!!! We're graduating all together

Ohhh I feel I'm forgetting someone so sorry if I am.

Hope you have a lovely day. Mila wants to feed now so I have to go

(((Waves)))

chocciedooby · 22/06/2009 11:17

Hey Laura - sounds like your waters have gone. My water was straw coloured. KInd of pinky yellow. I took a sample into the hospital with me. Keep us posted on how you get on. Have you called the MW? My waters went at 5am and I had DD by 1.18pm!!! Good Luck.

Naat - hey there how are you keeping? Can't believe you have had to trudge down to London to sort things out. I would not have the energy for any of that. I still feel wrecked and Elina is a week old now.

DH has returned to work today . I miss him so much. He has been so wonderful, spent hours entertaining the boys, taking them out to the zoo etc, fed them every meal all week and cooked all of our meals. I have not had to lift a finger. He even took the kids to school this morning so I could catch up on sleep and my MIL is collecting them later on and taking them back to her house for a play That gives me space to cook dinner and spend time with lo

Had a tougher night last night. Elina took her last feed at 11.30pm and settled ok but after her feed at 4am she would not settle due to wind. She was so upset and we tried everything (not used the infacol yet but reading the pack after this). She finally settled at 6.45am (fifteen minutes before we wake the boys for school) and both dh and I are shattered. She has had another feednow and gone stright back to sleep. I guess it is going to take a little longer for her to sort out her days from her nights

Hi Ermin. Glad to hear you are in good spirits.

Mrsmc - Is the sun shining over there?
How is your cat? Hope things are ok. I am feeling a bit better today in myself. Think I might even go out for a little walk after the Public Health Nurse has visited.

Tee - That bath soak sounded amazing
I remember when I had episiotomy stitches (nothing compared to cs) I bathed 3 times a day in tea tree oil.

chocciedooby · 22/06/2009 11:45

Sorry had to post that quicker than expected as health nurse arrived. She weighed Elina and she has gained weight She was down nearly 10% of her birth weight on Thursday but her feeding has doubled since then and she is back to birth weight. I am so pleased.

Hi Worriedamy and Bigcar.

Hows it going June?

Lovely hot sunny day here. Going to be a good week. Lets have some more babies!!

daisy5 · 22/06/2009 11:58

Oh dear - I'm so behind and only have two minutes to quickly see the baby list before off to nursery to pick up dd.

Thinking of you all and hopefully in next day or two shall be back online.

Just quickly - ColicOrReflux - any troubled babies suffering (Doris?), doctors have a habit of saying it is colic when sometimes is reflux. My dd had silent reflux and wasn't diagnosed for a month - here is a website with good info Reflux

laura - sounds a lot like your waters. Good luck.

lauraloo09 · 22/06/2009 13:04

hiya everyone just back from hospital where they checked me over. It was my waters that broke and been told baby should be here by latest this time tomorrow. Going back at 4.30 for aromatherapy treatment. At first there was no pain but now i'm quite sore but nothing i cant handle on my own so never know might just be kept in when i go back. Baby has now engaged so i can give birth at the midwife unit as long as contractions start by 7 tomorrow morning if not i'll need to go to consultant at 8 tomorrow for augmentation (whatever that is lol)

Effielou · 22/06/2009 13:11

Hi All.

Congratulations to Dreamy and Junexxx

Sorry I haven't been on for a few days-- but we were allowed to take Rupert home on Friday and have been having lots of make-up times.

well after thurs night of rooming in-I took Rupert back to the nursery, so I could get some breakfast- bumped into one of the sisters and registrars and they said- I could take him, as I would be doing no different at home than I would be in hospital-- being an ex-SCBU nurse was a bonus for me, as they trust me to phone if any worries.

So now- Hes constantly feeding and sleeping, being very good at night. I do give him a forula feed, last thing at night and that sees him through to about 4ish and gives my nipples a rest.

I have both boys asleep at the mo and enjoying the peace. I've forgotten how tiring night feeds are- but loving it.

Hope you are all well?

Thank-you again for all your support over the last few weeks-- you've all been fab.

I will keep up properly now and looking forward to reading your posts and not just scimming between hosptial visits.

Lots of love xxxxxx

loooouise · 22/06/2009 13:12

Ermin I don't have a fan oven either...8 days overdue here and just about to set off for my romantic sweep

I'm actually starting to be a bit depressed, which I know is silly, as I'm sure baby will be here by the wkend...

But you Lauraloo, are the star of the moment!!! Good luck honey, how lovely to think that in just 24 hours you'll have your wee prince/princess. Wishing you a fabulous birth xxxx

Hello ladies with babies, hope you're getting some rest and relief from the sore nips/breast feeding problems...
Thinking about all those with DPs/DHs returning to work shortly. You all seem to be doing splendidly, which is giving me great heart!!

silkcushion · 22/06/2009 13:29

hello all

Good luck with yr impending birth Laura - hope you enjoy yr aromtherapy treatment.

Still baby swooning here but feeling knackered as haven't really managed more than 3-4 hrs sleep for the last 2 nights. Eleri is doing much better at breastfeeding than her sister did. But now I discovering the joys of nipple agony [contorted face emoticon]

Mw who popped over yesterday said the first few sucks of any feed for the first week will be excruiating as my nipples need to toughen up. Is this right? I just assumed I had the positioning/latch wrong? She said it was just normal.

Dd1 isn't quite so enamoured with her little sis as we hoped. She is fine if anyone else is holding the baby but very wobbly lipped if I am. She's still being nice to her though - tried to feed her toast yesterday morning and brought her a teddy today. Just think she's missing mummy as I'm spending some much time trying to feed. I feel very guilty

Hope the rest of you are doing well

ermintrude13 · 22/06/2009 13:55

laura that's good news, hope everything progresses soon for you, good luck with it xx

effie how fab that you and Rupert are home, very pleased to hear it.

loouise my friend who came for coffee this morning said both her DC were born 10 days 'late' but she was sure they were just born at the right time, and I feel the same about my 3 day 'late' DD and 10 days 'late' DS. Ovulation, fertilisation etc. can make loads of difference, and there isn't a precise number of days that each baby takes to get ready. I just wish there were some late due dates on this thread!!

silk quite a few of the mums have had awful nipple pain but although it felt a bit odd and tender at first, and they do certainly need to toughen up a bit, I never had it bad. If the MW is sure the latch is good and Eleri is actually drinking plenty that's the main thing but it shouldn't be agony. Hope someone else in similar position can advise.

Sounds like your DD has some adjustments to make - it's a lot to get used to and it's nice that she wants to feed her little sis (toast ! My sister had to watch her 2 LOs like a hawk after she found her newborn DD's mouth full of raisins her big sis had lovingly shared with her .

bigcar · 22/06/2009 14:09

afternoon all

laura, how exciting!!!! Hope this is it now, you're definitely on the home stretch I think augmentation might be the same as induction, most units aren't happy if labour hasn't started within 24 hours of your waters breaking due to the risk of infection, hopefully the aromatherapy will do the trick!

effie, wonderful news, must be lovely to finally have Rupert home

silk, it is normal for some to have pain for the first few sucks, generally if the latch is wrong the pain will last for longer. Plus you get the let down which can be a little painful too. Hopefully the feeding will even out soon and you'll get a bit more time with dd. My dd3 has taken to feeding her dolly while Edward is feeding and then she puts her dolly in his basket.

choccie, yay for Elina getting back to her birth weight Not so sunny here, nice and warm though!

naat, hope you get sorted today and the wait's not too bad!

daisy, good site! My dd3 had mild reflux, no mistaking that though, she used to bring her entire feed up over anyone close, quite spectacularly sometimes Thankfully she's grown out of it now!

ermin and loooouise, lol at fan oven

worriedamy, what a pain, hope you get your internet sorted soon!

MrsMcJnr, hope you got the authorities to agree to register the birth

I'm sure Edward smiled at me this morning although I'm also sure it's too early yet and must have been wind

waves to all

llynnnn · 22/06/2009 15:41

hi all

just a quickie while Isobel finally sleeps! Has anyone else found that there little one's dont actually sleep much? I'm sure when dd1 was tiny she slept most of the day only really waking for feeds. Isobel seems to be awake most of the day, she tends to nap for a little while (20mins or so) after a feed but then she's awake again until her next one?? in the night she is also awake a lot and takes a lot to get her to settle to sleep.

I feel the pain of all those with sore nipples, I thought i was doing well but the last couple of days they have got raw and really sore i keep lathering on the lansinoh but i dont really think its having any effect. i tried nipple shields yesterday but she couldnt really get the hang of them. bfeeding is no fun!

Laura - hooray! sounds like it is finally happening for you! best of luck and cant
wait to hear more news

Effie - great news that you have Rupert home at last

oh no shes awake again, must dash.

hi to everyone else, i'll try to pop back later
