Afternoon ladies!

Another quick post from me!

MrsMcJnr - so sorry to hear about your cat - I empathise - when we lost our cat, we lost a member of our family.

Silk - congratulations on little Eleri - cannot believe you posted, had her, then posted again!! You are an Amazon!

ZoZoCat - thinking of you today - hope your baby arrives v soon!

Tee - wonderful news that Adam is home with you! Terrific!

Well, nipples are beyond sore - cracked, bleeding and missing bits . Despite working on the latch, lathering Lanisoh on after every feed, and airing the poor old nipples. Solution? Have bought nipple shields, and used a breast pump for the last 2 feeds. Just dashed to Boots and upgraded to the Medela Swing for tonight's feeds - wish me luck!! She guzzled in 2 minutes the 60 mls it took me 30 mins to express! Once nipples a little less destroyed, will see how we go w the shields, too. Will keep you posted, and thank you for all the support and advice!

We have decided to call our baby Cordelia, so below is the updated post for the Juner babies!

June - my apologies, missed posts - congratulations on the arrival of baby Calypso!! Looking forward to seeing photos!

Choccie - you poor thing, my heart goes out to your little darling boy, no wonder you were sad. I read an article this afternoon that had me in tears, too... Am also feeling v daunted about DH going back to work on Monday. [scared emoticon]

Naat · 20/06/2009 20:33

Hi Juners!

Flash post! sorry

Silk, well done you!!! Congratulations on the birth of Eleri!! Can't wait to read your birth story.

Choccie, I can't believe the hosts! I cried when reading your post Poor little lamb your DS, and no wonder you cried!! Hormones or not I'd have cried my eyes out! (((hug)))

Bunny, same problem here. Up to yesterday nipples were OK, then hell broke loose and cracks appeared, then some blood, oh my the tears! I bought some Medela nipple shields today as the pain was just unbearable and I've just tried them and they are heaven!!! Hope they work as well for you Love Cordelia!!

Mrsmc, so sorry to hear about Tia's diagnosis. I can't believe the vet... as some Juners said, he's supposed to give advice, not judge your decision! So so sorry you have to go through this right now (((hug)))

Hello to all Juners! I'm so so sorry I'm not catching up properly, it's just crazy here. Tomorrow we're going to London to start the crazy birth registry/passport process for Mila on Monday. We were shocked to realise that the times for the process have changed now and we have to go 3 times down south in order to do each thing separately!!! I can't belive they make you do this with a newborn, esp. when you don't live in London!! Aaaaaaand breathe... Will try to post from there.

Have a good night all, hope the ones still waiting have their LOs with them soon!!!

(((waves))))

Naat · 20/06/2009 20:34

Oh, I forgot!

Ermin, DH looooved your idea of the first bath and we're absolutely doing it! Don't know when, though But soon, hopefully Thanks for your advice, again.

chocciedooby · 20/06/2009 21:26

Thanks for your kind words everyone re:DS1. The party did seem very well organised but the problem was that there was only one host looking after about 25 boys (5 and 6 yr olds)and my DS seems to always be the one that is extra sensitive and finds it harder to join in when in larger groups. The mum that organised the party did her best to encourage DS to stay and was very sweet. He needs a warm cheerful bubbly person to help get him in the swing of things and the host was not that person. Never mind.We went out later on this afternoon and bought some chocolate cake to make up for the birthday cake he missed out on

Its funny how since I have had my new baby I am also realising how much I also adore my older kids and that they need me just as much.

Any more babies???

June2009 · 20/06/2009 22:18

Hey!!!

Big sigh of relief here as we're both home after what feels like a lifetime in the hospital.

Labour and birth weren't a positive experience for me because first the contractions "failed to progress" and they gave me the drip, then the baby got stressed with almost every contraction and her heart kept decelarating which is why I hd to have a c-section. I'll write the birth story down when I've had a bit more sleep.

Baby's pattern is that she sleeps all day and cries all night.
Breastfeeding is not established yet and they made me give her a bottle of formula in the hospital because she just wasn't eating enough. I'm going to persevere though and offer her the breast every time she needs a feed.
What baby does is that she gets the breast in her mouth, she'll suck for 30 seconds and then fall asleep or just stay there and not suck.

Any good recommendations for an electric pump? I have a manual one which I use to try and get my "flat" nipples out so she has something to latch onto better. THIS WILL WORK .

For the ones who had a c-section as well, do you need to do anything special to take care of your scar? I have staples apparently, not that I have looked yet, they didn't have mirrors that low down in the hospital. The doctor who checked me out said they were "ok" and that the midwife would take the staples out on day 5. (Didn't realise we'd still be counting in days after birth...)

ok gotta go fornow

silkcushion · 20/06/2009 22:48

Birth Story - the bits you don't know (not much left)

Mw had visited at 10.30 and doen an itnernal. Said I was 4cm and very stretchy cervix with bulging waters. She rang back at 12.15.

Contractions strengthened between 10.30 and 12.15 when she rang but slowed down in frequency to evry 6-8 minutes or so. She arrived back at 12.45.

Dd had been out with dmum for a walk. Had her lunch and went down for nap at 12.30 (like MrsM's ds) Dmum popped out to Tescos. She didn't want to be around and I didn't want her there either.

Just as MW arrived I had a big contraction in the loo after a wee and felt huge amounts of pressure in my rectum (sorry if tmi). We retreated to Dh's guitar room where I had a single duvet doubled up on the floor covered by a tesco 90p value shower curtain and old towels. Laboured for a bit leaning over birthing ball. Only position that seemed bearable. Was using hypnobirthing relaxation techniques throughout.

DH was watching sky sports in the lounge as I'd told him to. Mw said don't worry MrSilk we'll call you when we need to. 2nd mw rang at 1.40 to say she was in the area nad should she come over or go to her next appointment. Mw said 'not needed yet but getting going quite well' That's when I grabeb the enotonx and breathed it in, started to grunt . She spotted something had changed and said 'did that feel pushy?'

Seconds later waters broke spectacularly and head crowned. Talk about a multi tasker - mw rang 2nd mw whilst calling for dh to assist whilst delivering the head. 2nd mw ran through the door whilst body was coming out. Waters going to full delivery - 2 minutes. Even mw was

Had a tear (along the line of last time) but not as bad needed stitching though. They really took time to help with skin to skin and getting Eleri to feed immediately given problems I had with dd1.

DMum walked in from Tesco 5 mins later dh told her 'she'd arrived' and she thought he meant the mw! Dd1 woke up at the same time. Came for cuddle with me whilst mw checked dd2 and was completely perplexed/bewildered. Kept saying baby over and over and patting my tummy and pointing at dsis as if she couldn't work out what the hell had happened whilst she had a nap. She's been a bit clingy to my dmum for the rest of the day but did give her dsis a kiss goodnight and managed to say her name

Thoroughly recommend homebirthing and hypnobirthing if they are yr thing - on other benefit - mw said dd was totally relaxed and unphased throughout labour when she checked her heartbeat - let's hope she's just a chilled out baby who loves to sleep at night [deluded emoticon]

Of to bed now for a few hours kip

loooouise · 21/06/2009 00:11

Wow Silk that is an incredible story, wow, wow, wow!
You must be so proud of yourself! And how lovely that DD bonded like that (love the bit about her pointing at your tummy and saying 'baby'). Honestly, I got goosebumps reading your post! Congratulations and welcome dear Eleri.

My 'contractions' stopped at 5.30pm, with nothing since, so I'd be surprised if I got my solstice baby... Tomorrow I'll be 41 weeks. Humph.

June , welcome home from hospital, hope baby sleeps a little tonight and you get some rest. Sorry your birth didn't quite go to plan, but lucky lucky you to have darling Calypso in your arms. I am trying to take heart from your experience and hoping I'll start spontaneously before I'm induced on Weds....

Choccie sending you hugs and hair strokes...

Bunny I love love love Cordelia

Sending you solidarity Ermitrude, Lauraloo, Worried, can't be long for us now...can it???

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 21/06/2009 05:19

Hi Mummies!!

Well, we are home. We are asleep in our own cot at the moment as we woke up, ate a bit and then decided, ya know what? I'm still sleepy. So rather than go back into our bedroom and put him in his cradle and possibly wake DH, who took care of him last night so I could get some sleep, I put him in his cot. He slept from 12:45 - 4:45...I hope this is typical!! Oh and he really only woke up because Mummy got nervous and took him out of his cradle to see how he was!!

Speaking of that, what is everyone doing about light at night? The only lights in our bedroom are quite bright, but it is very dark in there so I can't really see him. Any bright ideas?

Congratulations to any new mummies that I haven't been able to congratulate yet!

june she's beautiful! Adam was wearing the boy version of that onesie yesterday!!!

laura here's hoping for you! Good luck!

silk that's an amazing story! It must have been wonderful.

iris66 · 21/06/2009 06:29

silkcushion - hi and congratulations!!!! I remember you from the Nov 07 thread and didn't realise you were pregnant too!,obviously goes round with eyes closed > Hope my imminent birth is as lovely as yours was. Eleri is a beautiful name btw and DD sounds like she's going to be a darling with her little sister - take care.

silkcushion · 21/06/2009 06:35

Morning all

trying for a catch up before my little girls wake

Choc for yr ds - must have been ehartbreaking . We're all upset and he's not ours. Glad you took him out for compensatory chocolate cake.

Loooouise/Ermin/Worried/Laura - am feeling a bit guilty at having deserted you and escaping the departure lounge. Not long for any of you now I think.

Tee - you must be so relieved at having your lovely little boy home. Wrt to lighting we have a bedside lamp with a soft focus candle thing in it - I found it essential last time for nighttime feeds etc.

June - Calypso is beautiful with all that lovely hair. we'll be unlikely to get pictures up anytime soon as we're a bit bloody useless. Mw had to remind Chris to go and find the camera and take a picture!

So much for sleepy newborns. Mw's parting words were 'she'll sleep and sleep for a few days but try not to leave her longer than 6/8 hours without having a feed' She didn't go to sleep until 2am having fed (with varying degrees of success) 5 times since birth.

Just heard a little voice say 'hello mummy motorbike' ?! Got to go

Love to all Juners

silkcushion · 21/06/2009 06:36

xposts Iris - of course I remember you. Hope yr imminent arrival goes well x

Tee2072 · 21/06/2009 09:13

iris I thought I was in the wrong thread!!

ermintrude13 · 21/06/2009 10:14

AARGH, just lost a huge post and don't know why

Tee I thought exactly the same when I saw iris's post - thought I'd wandered btwn threads without realising.

June sorry things didn't go according to plan but glad you are home now - and Calypso is gorgeous! I know nothing about electric pumps, but do know that even with inverted/flat nipples, posting the whole lot into baby's mouth is a good approach. The hosp shouldn't have made you do anything with formula - it's just to tick their boxes - hope they haven't caused too much confusion and that you get some rest soon x

silk fab story, I'm hoping for something similar. I'd love my DC to be around while it's happening but we don't have anyone else who can sit with them at short notice - all our friends will be busy with their own DC - and DH is v nervous about what would happen if I needed to transfer to hospital, so at the first signs of labour they'll go to a friend's house up the road, whatever the time of day or night. That's why I'd like to do it in the day - when they're at school would be highly convenient! - so we can all be together as soon as possible.

choccie I've found that the shy kids at parties always respond well to an older child taking them under their wing, and my DD has been vg at getting DS's friends to join in - if the party hostess had had a nice 8 yr old I bet your DS would have been fine. I'm sure he'll settle, bless him. The protocols about at what age DC are left alone at parties vary wildly in any case. Hope he's feeling happier today

Hey looouise, Lauralooo and worriedamy. It's a bind, innit?

helpivegottogivebirth · 21/06/2009 10:16

Polly had sucked so hard on my nipples they blistered by day 2. then cracked, bled and crusted over. i persevered and they are fine now.

rub breast milk on them after each feed. just as good as lansinoh.

breast milk seems to be good for everything. polly had a bit of an eye infection - crusty yellow etc. put in breast milk (on midwife's advice) and it has now gone. just difficult to aim right so her poor little face was covered in the stuff.

bunnymother · 21/06/2009 11:30

Morning ladies!

Afraid to say I have found some respite in expressing breast milk via my new best friend: Medela Swing breast pump. Its electric, Naat and I can recommend it!

Por old nipples need a break, so hopefully tomorrow will let them near the commandant our darling Delie (what we are calling Cordelia for short), but only once firmly encased in nipple shield. Perhaps I am a wimp, but the pain was so bad I had to try hypnobirthing relaxation techniques and couldn't talk when she was feeding. . That was pre-Medela and am now in the Swing of things - ha ha

Although, am v v v bad mummy, and last night we even gave her 200ml of formula to top her up as she had 6 dirty nappies and wanted to eat for her country and poor old boobs couldn't keep up - the screaming was v upsetting for all. We are back to breast, but has taught me that am not textbook mum, but things happen and we do our best.

God, me me me me! How are you all today?

Help - thank you for more hope that nipples can recover and continue to serve even once injured.

June - your birth story sounds v similar to mine, only we averted C section due to final giant yank from obstetrician whose biceps were apparently bulging . Sounds like you did brilliantly, and hope you are satisfied w your labour.

Silk - goodness me!! So impressed!! Hope you are recovering beautifully and enjoying your little darling.

Delie wants to eat again, and has a zero tolerance policy, but have to run.

Hello all you other lovely Juners!!

bunnymother · 21/06/2009 11:31

Ooops, MrsMcJnr - hope little Aaliyah is feeling better today...

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 21/06/2009 15:22

Poor old you bunny - It sounds so much like my experience with DS. You're not a bad mummy for resorting to a top-up. Don't beat yourself up. I completely understand the pain too. I would 'white-out' on it with DS and NO WAY could I hold a conversation other than murmur 'fuck fuck fuck' over and over until it was over. I seriously found it more painful than labour contractions at times. Nipple shields sound like the best bet to give your poor old nips time to recover. It DOES get easier (though had someone said that to me at the time I would have cheerfully killed them) but this time round I've found it so much easier.

I used to beat myself up all the time that it should be easy as everyone else found it so, and that there must be something wrong with me that I couldn't cope with the pain. Once the nips get shredded though (and mine were in a pretty sorry state by the time I gave up and resorted to bottles) it's so hard to recover as they get such a battering each feed. Nipple shields and expressing sound like the best bet to give you a couple of days respite. Also, have you tried putting Lansinoh on before the shower to not let them dry out at all? Sorry if you've tried it, but it helped me.

One thing I found (and DS was forceps too) that a cranial osteopath worked as the forceps had damaged his jaw. Not that this has happened to you, but it might be worth going as they can improve the latch for you sometimes by checking how wide they can open their mouth. We're taking DD next week as she seems to hold onto her burps for hours and has terrible pain so hopefully she'll sort that out (she sorted loads of stuff with DS). Hope it improves soon xx

Well having a good day after a bit more sleep last night. Had some friends over, and now going to bath DD for the first time (in 18 days ) and have some family time.

Love to all you Juners with babies, and even more love and luck to those still waiting xx

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/06/2009 17:58

Hi to you all, and congratulations to all the recent arrivals for dreamy june and silk, have been reading and following all the events as they hapen but am rarely allowed time to post! And gorgeous names all!

tee great news that adam is home with you, now the scary reality of checking every five minutes that everything is ok can start

Laura ermin and all the other ladies in waiting, haven't forgotton you and we won't graduate to postnatal without you I was due end of the month last time so when my dates changed this time I switched from the May thread (just so I could be one of the 1st for scans etc) Loads of postive birthing vibes coming your way

ineed dd2 was nearly month before her first bath so no worries (the hospital said it was better not to bath)

Mrsmc really sorry to hear about your cat hope she doesn't suffer anymore...

bunny I got a swing last time and they are fab have just dug it (and the steriliser etc) out of the loft to start expressing some and hopefully give my poor nips a rest, they are feeling a little better with the diclofenac thrush cream and now I've started applying lansinoh to the breast pads before reinserting into my bra (can't put it on ontop of the thrush cream as it doesn't stick!) Also ent outside and exposed myself this afternoon (on the mw recomendations) which seems to have helped as well. Still some pain but mostly first thing in the morning. Oh and those in an doubt IT DOES GET EASIER, HONESTLY !!!!! it's this first bit that sucks

Annabelle has started to have colic now mostly in the evenings which makes for a fun night bless I can see she is in pain but I just can not get her to wind properly after a feed (even with Infacol) I've changed my diet and gone dairy free to see if that helps (DD1 and DH were/ are dairy intolerant with similar symptoms)

LittleS I'm a lot more weepy this time than before with dd1 I had the blues at about day 5 and they lasted minutes ( well not literally but that's all I can remember) This time the smallest thing (or even nothing) sets me off this morning my dgrandma phoned and talked aboiut a cousin of mine who died as a toddler (he had significant health problems) set me off as I jsut thought she was being really insensitive given the problems DD2 faces... probably a bi of an overreaction.

Am going to post now whilst Annabelle is sleeping (thank god, as she's trying to feed for england and I'm trying to space feeds out to help with the colic) and having to referee the other two more than usual as they both 'fight' for attention Forgot how bloody hard thius newborn stage is....

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/06/2009 17:59

{blush] don't know what happened there

June2009 · 21/06/2009 19:59

oh Bunny don t eed bad for topping up with formula... Im having big problems with breastfeeding, today i tried squeezing my boobs and nothing came out, the midwife came round and she really wasn't optimistic about my breastfeeding. I will order an electric pump and try and express, in the meantime it's formula for us I cried so much
It was such a relief to see Calypso eat something though I was getting really worried that she just wasn't feeding.

I wrote down every thing she had, breast, top ups etc and we tried feeding her breast and formula with the mw and she wasn't having either. The mw said it wasn't a normla pattern, that she is a fussy eater, not really interested in feeding and with my flat nipples and the aftermath tiredness of the c-section it's just all a bit too much for me.
We're going to weigh her on Tuesday and see how she is going then,

We had plenty of skin to skin contact this afternoon to try and get milk or colostrum or SOMETHING coming ou of my breasts!!!

Tee how is your c-section scar? my belly feels hard and lumpy, the mw is taking the stitches out on tuesday. I guess I wasn't prepared for it so it's all going round and round in my mind. I hope yours was a better experience and you're recovering well!

Hi everybody, sorry I can't cath up more than that, I'm quite tired though I must say it's so much nicer being home :D
Gonna try and get some ZZzzzz while Calyspo will allow me!

take care!
