how are those contractions going Laura? Are they getting stronger?

lauraloo09 · 19/06/2009 11:08

I wouldn't say all of them are getting stronger but there are the odd ones that kinda take my breath away and make me feel like i need the loo but the regularity i had earlier is kinda gone now i just hope i see a helpful midwife today who will examine me

OP posts:
loooouise · 19/06/2009 11:42

Congratulations Dreamy on the safe arrival of Evie Rose (just in the nick of time by the sound of things)! Glad she's being surrounded by so much sibling love! Hope they're helping out lots and you're getting plenty of rest xx

June - absolutely delighted for you, well done, and welcome to Calypso Lilly. Looking forward to hearing more details, so pleased you went into spontaneous labour xxx

Lauraloo let us know how you get on with midwife, it does sound promising. Wishing you luck and love xx

I have had some developments, though loathed to think I'm actually getting started...woke up at 5 with mild-to-moderate waves of period pain (ha, sounds like the weather forecast), seemed to be about 5 mins apart. I took some paracetamol as was desperate to sleep more to save energy...they kicked in a bit more sporadically at 11am, but not with the same regularity. And no sightings of any show though I'm really hoping for a solstice baby, but it could be another week of nonsense, recalling Daisy's experience...

Ermitrude, Silk, Worried and Zozo hope you're all busy and not getting too pissed off

Naat · 19/06/2009 12:01

Hi Juners!

Quick post just to say

Congratulations June!!! So happy for you that you have your baby Calypso in your arms now!!! Hope to hear from you soon.

Congratulations Dreamy!! Wow, that was a quick one As choccie said, hope you managed to get a bed

Thank you Ermin Mrsmc and LittleS for your advice re.expressing. Good that you told me, I would have got a bit carried away by it otherwise Mila had no painful wind incident during the night, she managed to pass some wind while DH was trying to burp her so phew! Let's hope this goes on...

Hello to all lovely Juners! Will try and catch up properly soon (((waves)))

Naat · 19/06/2009 12:03

Oh! Laura and Loouise, hope this is it for you girls!!!

MrsMcJnr · 19/06/2009 12:21

SOOO tired, Aaliyah fed every 2 hours through the night for an hour I guess the heat will be making her thirstier too.

A weird thing and I wonder if any of you 2nd and subsequent Mums are noticing this, not only do my boobs leak when they ?hear? DD cry but also when DS does very leaky lady!

Oh Laura sounds really promising the day DS was born my contractions started in the night like yours and I had a consultant?s appointment at 12 and I saw that as a great aim to go and see her and see how I was progressing (I was doing well 4cms at midday ? DS was born at 5pm) hope it works that way for you too, everything crossed.

June ? congratulations hon!! Fabulous news, welcome to Mummyhood Calypso was 7lbs hey? What did that BC know!

Littlesarah ? twice nightly feeds would be great what an academic day, enjoy and good luck

Choccie ? don?t joke I was crying last night because I was worried someone would try and take my baby away hormones hey?

Dreamy ? yay! many congratulations on the birth of Evie Rose a blonde hey?

Ohh Loouise sounding hopeful!

Hey ladies in waiting ? hope you are all ok hope we hear from the other girls on the list who have been absent for a while, especially StrawberrySam would be so relieved to hear of the safe arrival of her baby.

Update on my cat ? surgery is going to cost 1100 euros ? gulp don?t have it but will need to try and find it. They want us to call around and see if we can find a vet who will do it cheaper but my cat is so old, so fat and has had previous leg injuries, trying hard to assess all aspects with my head all hormonal

chocciedooby · 19/06/2009 15:18

Oh Mrsmc what a predicament with your cat. I really feel for you having to deal with all of this on top of 2 little ones. e1100 sounds a lot of money but I know at the same time that its hard to put a price on pets that you love.I hope things work out for you. (((hugs))).

So sorry about the joke about the Spanish authorities. I really didn't mean to upset you and totally understand how frustrating it all is. Try not to worry though, I am sure it will all settle down soon. Has anyone been able to give you advice on how to get Aaliyahs birth registered? Have you got to have the tests done?

silkcushion · 19/06/2009 15:56

Laura - how did it go at the mw? Or can't you answer cos yr in the labour ward now?

MrsM - what on earth are you going to do? 1100 euros is a fortune

lauraloo09 · 19/06/2009 16:51

afternoon all - no baby here and doesn't look like there will be one for a while yet

Went to midwife and was seen by a midwife who is a family friend. I described what happened yesterday wrt my show and she advised it most def was my show and as i had been having a lot of pain she decided to do a sweep. She started to do it and she said she couldn;t even reach the neck of the womb so labour hadn't started. she then palpated me and told me that after 1 month of being told baby was 3 5ths engaged that baby was high and free so now i have a consultant appointment on monday afternoon and i have been moved from low risk to high risk so no birth in the midwife unit for me now. If baby's head isn't engaged on monday they wont do anymore sweeps and they can't risk induction.

Just found out today from my mum that myself and my two older brothers were section babies as her pelvis was too small for the baby to pass thro, with my oldest brother she was in established labour for 12 hours with his head not engaging before they did a section on her it was after the birth they found she had a small pelvis, could this be hereditory? Should I bring up the subject of a section with the consultant on monday....also I am highly tempted just to ask for a section, if i were to do this how likely would it be that i could have a section??

Sorry for the me post - just very disheartened by today after all the pain i had last night/this morning i thought everything was going to 'kick off'

OP posts:
silkcushion · 19/06/2009 17:11

Laura - what a nightmare. you must be totally pissed off. Definitely ask consultant on Monday about the possibilities of a cs so you can be fully prepared. This all seems a bit ott doesn't it? You're not due until tomorrow and I thought it was possible for babies to engage really late on. Although I suppose if your pelvis is too small it would be best to know in advance and have a cs rather than have a prolonged and difficult labour ending in an emcs.

Naat · 19/06/2009 17:17

Oh Laura, so sorry to hear that. I second silk in asking the consultant on Monday so as to know what to expect and therefore, prepare yourself. (((hug)))

ermintrude13 · 19/06/2009 18:16

lauraloo sorry to hear that. The wonderfully named 'android pelvis' can be inherited - it's all about the size of the pelvic opening and nothing to do with 'childbearing hips' at all. Mention it to the MW and consultant, definitely, because they should be able to assess your pelvic opening, even scan if necessary - and of course you can then voice your concerns and discuss CS at the same time. Meanwhile, remember that babies can engage late on and the fact it was 3/5 before is still promising. Lack of cervical effacement just means you're not ready for labour yet, nothing to do with the engagement.

My MW was v nice on the phone when we provisionally booked me a sweep on Weds, when I'll be a week overdue. She said after 2 spontaneous labours it's v unlikely I'll need an induction. Hope she wasn't just being nice . Floor cleaning hasn't done anything yet!

zozokat · 19/06/2009 19:03

Hi all

just a quick update from me as i've been away i still need to read up on the thread!

June and Dreamy, congratulations on the arrival of your little ones Calypso and Evie!! hope you're all doing very well!

Looooouise sounds like good progress, fingers crossed for you! (Also hoping for a solstice baby for silly reasons really but still hoping

Silk, Worriedamy and Ermintrude hope you're hanging in there!

Lauraloo so sorry to hear this -- seems so last-minute too, how disheartening

Here's my latest update: had a sweep yesterday (at the lovely, calm Birth Centre where I was registered) and was up most of the night with lots of irregular but painful contractions/show etc. -- but had to go the dreaded antenatal clinic this morning due to high blood pressure and irregular blood test?

So, even though I'm in pre-labour now, I'm scheduled to go in for an induction tomorrow morning so no lovely birth centre experience for me either. Hopefully the induction won't be too grim since I'm already 'on my way' so to speak. Bye for now everyone!!

worriedamy · 19/06/2009 20:15

Hello everyone- back into the world of internet again after it went down again yesterdat ...

Fingers crossed looouise-- hope things are picking up steam for you!!

Congrats to Dreamy, and to June- how interesting that your baby was 7lb, and not as big as predicted. Very annoying that they can change all what you had hoped for on an obviously inaccurate presumption!! But all that must seem like ages ago to you now?!

MrsMcJnr-- your poor little cat ow, that makes me so sad poor little thing hope he gets better soon

zozokat-- hopefully your induction will go very smoothly, and this time tomorrow you may have your little baby in your arms!! At least you know you haven't got to wait too long?

lauraloo-- you must be so frustrated I'm sure if they find that the small pelvis thing (excuse my ignorance!!) is inherited in you that at least you will have a date for a caesarean that you can aim towards and it takes away the hooooooorible uncertainty of waiting!?!?

I went to visit the midwife today, rather disheartened tbh She measured me, and I am only measuring 35 weeks... only one week more than I was two weeks ago, but she didn't think this was anything to worry about. But was disheartened as the next time I am going to see anyone (in the day unit at the hospital) is the 1st of July so if I don't go in to labour, it will be another two weeks before anyone has a look at me. Then the day unit will assess me and probably book me in for an induction 4 days after that... the 5th of July. JULY!! Grrrr, July is friging ages away I had always been building my hopes up to have this baby in June, and now the possibility of it being July, oh it seems so far away I don't think I can go that long without sleep, I'll go mad!! But I was suprised that no-one is going to see me for another two weeks- is this normal?? I have never had a internal, never even had one suggested. No mention of a sweep at all in the two weeks for going into the day unit. Not even a check up in the mean time. All you ladies seem to be really clued up on how 'ready' for labour you are... the midwife today couldn't even tell me how engaged he was, just that he was! Just a bit worried?? Ow, I just want it to happen now... (self pitying wimper)

MrsMcJnr · 19/06/2009 21:14

Cat update This morning the vet told us that Tia was up to the op but it would be 1100 euros plus there would be recuperation time and all the risks operations and anaesthetics entail. Ian and I felt really torn, Tia is 12 years old, has snapped her Achilles in both back legs, is overweight and we are not insured here (she is too old for cover) plus we have the two children to look after and it would be hard to look after an immobile cat too plus she may go and do something like this again. Those are all scenarios based on if the surgery went well. If we were in the UK, insured we?d not have to weigh it all up but frankly it is a lot of money and we cannot afford it. So we decided that we would have to have her put to sleep . The vet wouldn?t hear of it and told Ian that they would treat her for 5 days with pain killers and see if she could learn to hobble on 3 legs, if she can they expect us to bring her home like that. Ian and I are horrified, the thought of knowing your pet has broken bones and not fixing them seems incredibly cruel. So we are stuck in this horrible place with the vet thinking we don?t care enough about Tia to foot the bill. Really horrible.

MrsMcJnr · 19/06/2009 21:20

Choccie ? you didn?t offend me hon it?s just my hormones working overtime. We have to put our birth registration application before a judge, crazy!

Poor you Laura, not what you were wanting to hear at all. I hope all becomes clearer when you see the consultant.

Zozokat ? hope you beat that induction and if not, I hope you have a really positive experience and we look forward to your news.

Silkcushion, Ermintrude and Worriedamy ? sending labour vibes

The milk guzzler is calling me, have a good night everyone

worriedamy · 19/06/2009 21:24

oh no mrsmcjnr, your poor cat

chocciedooby · 19/06/2009 21:32

Oh Mrsmc this is so sad . Sounds like yourself and DH have thought things through and decided it best to be kind to Tia and not put her through any more pain. Then the bloody vet makes the decision even more difficult for you. I don't know what else to say but that if you have made your decision they should respect it...

Sorry to hear about those of you that have had disappointing MW appointments today.

Laura - it really sounded like you were on your way. I really hope you get some sound advice from the consultant on Monday. Its horrible not knowing what is going on but you will have that baby soon enough 1 way or another.

ermintrude13 · 19/06/2009 21:59

MrsMc I'd have thought a vet's job is to explain all the options and give his/her advice about which is/are the most viable. And for a 12 yr old cat with other injuries, I can imagine many of them advising putting her to sleep, to avoid further trauma.. I can't see our vet suggesting no treatment as an option . Awful situation for you and DH to think through but try not to be too wracked with guilt either; you have to think about the whole situation, including money, your DC and how easy post-op nursing care would be for you, and therefore what's best for everyone. Poor old pusscat - but she's already had a good innings, as they say, and you don't want her to suffer.

zozokat What a pain, are they worried about eclampsia? But as you say, things are starting off on their own so hopefully the induction will go smoothly. I really hope so - good luck, and how lovely to know you'll be holding your baby tomorrow

worriedamy on the list your due date is 21 June - is that right? In my area, you have a MW appt at 41 wks to check urine and blood pressure and to be offered a membrane sweep to see if that gets things moving. That's the point at which you get an induction date towards the end of the following week. Maybe that's what's going to happen at your 1 July appt?
There's not really much more anyone can do except wait, as long as you're feeling LO move and your stats are good. There's no need for internals before your due date, and the fundal measurement of 35 is no big deal - baby is probably lower down. Also it's hard to be precise about engagement but the fact your baby is engaged is the important thing. In all likelihood you'll give birth between now and 5 July anyway. But you could always ask them to move the 1 Jul appt a few days earlier with a view to having a sweep?

worriedamy · 19/06/2009 22:15

Ow I dont really know what I want to be honest, just suppose I'm a bit suprised that I wont be seen until 40+10, I guess I was expecting to be seen a bit sooner. Its like everyone else seems to have sweep dates, checks at 41 weeks etc, and I guess I was expecting the same? I dont want an induction because I want a pool birth and the midwife said today that as soon as they start the induction, they wont let me in the pool I suppose I just want my end date to be a bit nearer!

silkcushion · 19/06/2009 22:34

Worried - it does appear that mws all over the country work differently. I'm now being seen weekly for bp checks and urine etc. Saw a stand in mw yesterday (mine was off seeing Take That) and she told me to book again for Tues (40+4) to see reg mw and ask for a sweep. Could be cos I'm hoping for a hb which wouldn't be allowed if I went too far over.

My mw works from the GP surgery so I can ring them to book appointment. Can you do the same for end of next week and ask for a sweep if you want one?

MrsM - awful news about Tia Perhaps Spanish vets have different ideas about euthanasia. Your decision seems perfectly understandable to me given how old she is and her state of health (quite aside from the cost)

Zozokat - good luck for tomorrow's induction. Maybe as you're in pre labour they'll just need to break yr waters.

lauraloo09 · 19/06/2009 23:21

evening all

mrsmcjnr so sorry to hear aboout Tia, I am a cat person and when i had to put the cat i had for 16 years to sleep it was the hardest thing to do...my cat was heamoraging (sp?) but i was heartbroken as i had the cat since i was 1.

Thanks everyone for your input about my consultant appointment on monday. All night I have been in agony, bump very sore and a constant period cramp at times making me double over dont think i'll sleep tonight dont know whether to call consultant ward in Paisley (25mins drive away) if pain persists

OP posts:
silkcushion · 20/06/2009 06:01

Morning all. Think today might be the day Well hopeful anyway.

Bit of a shocker of a night. Dd awake from 2 til 3 - dh slept through - but I'd started having pains from about 1.30. Think they are pretty early contractions. Haven't gone away - every 12-15 minutes since. Not yet strengthening in intensity or length. The only strange thing is they are in the lower half of my bump only and I can't remember if that's normal. Have been trying to sleep/rest in between but not been easy.

Bit concerned about the fact I ate a curry last night. Mid way through dh joked that it would start labour and that I'd been bound to poo myself given the ususal laxative effects of our local takeaway. Now am desperate to evacuate my bowels!!! (sorry for tmi)

Laura - I think if you are in any doubts always ring the hospital/labour ward. They are happy to talk to people and are used to first time mums ringing up lots in the last few days. good luck

Will post later

morning ladies!!

its been ages! 1 handed reply as babe in arms. name not quite decided - we have one, but just trying it out furst. richinda is just friends being funy by merging our names.

v v v quick post from me - was discharged from hosp wed lunch (forceps = baby jaundice), so been enjoying being at home w baby and dh. we are both ab besotted w her - she is heavenly.

only prob is feeding - nipples are hammered (bleeding) despite working v hard on good latch. f bf wasn't meant to be best for her, would give it away. the pain!! will persist.

so, am i meant to wake her for feeds or go demand feeding? seems she wont eat unless she wants to. example - this is still the 5:30am feed and she wont wake or eat anymore...

so tired, back to bed, but missing you lovely juners and looking forward to poting again. v excited congrats to all us new mothers - such a wonderful month!!
