I hope I've done this right - here is the new thread...and hopefully the last in ante-natal

Thanks for effie updates Tee and June. Poor little sausage. If either of you is in touch with her again, and it seems appropriate, please can you let her know that my little niece spent 3 weeks sedated and ventilated at just a few days old because of a respiratory virus, and was right as rain afterwards (my sis expressed milk and so was able to b/f too, if that's relevant).

The worst thing is not being able to hold him but hopefully he'll be off the vent soon. Send her our love xx

dreamydowler · 02/06/2009 10:33

Morning all. Huge congratulations to effie on the birth of Rupert I know this must be such a worrying time for you and I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Lets hope he will be home very soon. Good luck to everyone who is due today hopefuly Dorris will be giving birth as we speak

Insy - I strongly disagree with that woman from church weighing in on your personal choices. That is completely inappropriate. She can do what she likes with her life, just as you have the right to do what you like with yours without interference. There is no one size fits all solution for everyone - she is being simple minded in assuming there is. You can't stop people talking, but you can stop listening... COngratulations on finding a job that you enjoy and that you have been able to juggle with children. Am v sorry to hear your DH assumes you don't need assistance with the housework . Sounds like he is about to become very good at cleaning, then . That may encourage him to think differently. One look at the vaccuum cleaner, broom, mop etc led my DH to declare that we will need a cleaner . More wise words from Tee, Ermin, LittleSarah and Daisy on both these points... You won't be taking the piss by allowing people to help you when you need it - that's what loved ones do for each other. Am sure if the roles were reversed you would offer and want to help, too. . Take it easy today...

LittleSarah, Tee and Ineed - please also add me to the list of Juners keen to replace pregnancy with motherhood... Pineapple on today's shopping list.

Ineed - good luck w your appointment! I would also consider shadowing under your eyes for particularly mournful look - no need for consultant to think you are anything other than knackered and in terrible pain! And NO blush!

Blueberry - only 2 more nights (was going to say "sleeps" but who is actually getting decent night's sleep these days??)!!!

choccie - am in more or less the same outfit as yesterday. Also v fed up w nothing to wear. Only have been a little bit bad, and have some ASOS dresses coming today, but they have been chosen so I can wear them for nursing too!! God love stretchy materials. So now I may have 5 outfits, not 3. Cannot wait to get into my old clothes!!!

Daisy - poor you with the on/off pre-labour symptoms! It sounds like its really taxing! I hope your little one stops kidding around and takes this whole labour thing seriously, and that you are underway soon. Being in a holding pattern like this is so frustrating!! Hope you can do something you enjoy today so you feel better... But good idea - turn on a weepy and let all the frustration out. Steel Magnolias?

Naat - did the curry do anything to help lure your LO out? I think its time I tried the spicy food. "Love" and wishful thinking aren't doing a thing.

Lynn - ooh, hopefully your LO takes the hint and gets a move on!

Great to hear from Effie that her little Rupert is improving (unless I misunderstood?).

Thank you for all the lovely messages re our name shortlist!

Hello all you other terrific Juners!! ((waves))

June2009 · 02/06/2009 11:30

Just so you know I copied and pasted as many messages from you from this thread to Effie as I could and sent them to her so she can read them,
Hope that will help somewhat cheering her up, she sounds like she's having a hard time.

loooouise · 02/06/2009 11:49

Morning ladies,

Effie sending you love and strength in these difficult few days. It sounds like Baby Rupert is being tremendously well cared for, and he will be back in your arms soon.

Doris my thoughts are with you too! Hope June 2 is your special day!

Daisy you sound like you're coping remarkably. I would hate this stop-start labour routine.

Help you've just reminded me - I'm off to book an eyelash tint too! Good work sister.

June and Naat hope your family difficulties are on their way to being resolved. Mine are nowhere near as hard as yours, but both babyfather's sisters have texted me in last 24 hours saying "they look forward to seeing me and baby very, very soon." I like his sisters enormously, but have only met them 3 of 4 times and don't want to be bombarded within the first week, especially as my parents' house is not my house! So I replied thanking them for their good wishes and said I'd let their brother know when baby and I were both settled so they could come up north and coo. I hope that didn't make me sound too controlling!!

I had sad news yesterday - one of my colleagues from Brazil was on the Air France flight. Still can't believe it. He was only 38 and was travelling with his new 28 year old wife. Life is very fragile. We are very lucky ladies to be blessed with babies....whenever they arrive....

silkcushion · 02/06/2009 11:52

sorry to hear about your colleague Loouise

We are lucky to be carrying this precious cargo. I expect no one realises that more than Effie right now.

lauraloo09 · 02/06/2009 11:59

oh Looouise I am sorry to hear about your colleague and his wife just shows you how precious life is

OP posts:
bunnymother · 02/06/2009 12:18

Oh Loouise so sorry to hear about your colleague - that is so sad.

Yes, as silk said - our babies are such precious cargo...

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 02/06/2009 12:36

Hi all,

still no news here (I really thought yesterday would be the last time I wrote that)

Had cx on and off til about 0400 then nothing, standing up walking around helped but by that time I was absolutely knackered. Have phoned labour ward repeatedly for bits of advice (at 0200 thought we were ready to go - the car is packed in case).

aT 0530 mw told me to get to bed and sleep, so rested til 1100, woken a few times by cx, but again nothing . Have spoken to them again before lunch, as waters are continuing to go (been through a pack of pads already) they will see me at 1800 if nothing else happens for a check of the LO and work out a pllan of action. Just advised of a few postions to get into to encourage things along and told to eat and rest.

Oh and one more thing to you third timer - every mw bar none said third babies come in 2 camps, arrive quickly without any bother or take their own sweet time about it guess which oneI think I've got!!!

Sorry it's so me have quickly scanned your posts and my thoughts are with Effie and Loouise.

Will keep you posted as and when.

June2009 · 02/06/2009 12:39

louise Sorry to hear about your colleague, the news are not covering it much, are they.

Hey mrsmc thanks for reminding me about feme pads which I got from mothercare a little while ago...I hadn't read the instructions so I didn't realise they go in the freezer!
I'll have a look at breast nurse in babiesrus today, going there to have a look at mobiles to put on the cot/car seat/pram. We really haven't got much in terms of "toys/baby entertainment".

Re: cot bumpers: I keep reading that it's not a good idea to have them in the cot, any idea why? The ones that came with the cot attach with strings to the railings and I'm not sure how the baby would be in danger.
So if I can't use that or the quilt now I feel a bit stupid for buying three different ones in the first place .

Been getting "kicks" down below today, ouch!

Tee2072 · 02/06/2009 12:42

june if baby manages to roll over and put face against bumper it could smother. I have purchased this instead. Covers the rails so no bumped heads, but baby can breathe through it.

louise sorry to hear about your colleague.

doris how frustrating for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that something starts to happen soon.

Gosh, it is so hot here. Never gets like this in NI. I think I'm melting!!

LittleSarah · 02/06/2009 12:53

Phew, half way through big kitchen clean! Gotta have lunch and then get out to park with dd!

Looouise - Sorry to hear about your colleague, that is dreadful. Does make me feel so lucky to have everything I do.

June and MrsMcJnr - Ah ha! Must put those feme pads in freezer! Thanks ladies! Did not use these last time but hearing so many great things about them...

Dd's wee sling and nappy has arrived! Yay, so now have baby clothes, a sling, a nappy and no doll... well okay do have a couple of dolls but not one that will fit my wee togs. Should one tomorrow though.

OH Doris, poor you, on again, off again, how annoying! Still, can't be much longer, I'm sure by tomorrow we will have baby 3, just try and rest when you can...

silkcushion · 02/06/2009 14:32

Oh Doris what a shame. Can't be too much longer surely if your waters are leaking - at leaset it should be days/hours rather than weeks. Good luck

Tee - it is roasting here too - not helped by our little internal combustion engines warming us from inside out at the same time Perhaps I should have left the pile of ironing until this evening?

Feeling quite bored today. Waiting for the garage to ring so I can get the car and go car shopping this afternoon.

Next 3 days should be better. Doing a mn meet up tomorrow afternoon at a soft play area - will be strange as they are just local people not mners I've chatted with much on line.

thursday I'm seeing Professor Robert Winston talk at the Cheltenham Science festival (very excited about that)

And Friday have booked a Mello mama full body massage at the spa with my vouchers from work.

that gets me to 38 weeks and then I'll start dying of boredom!!!!

silkcushion · 02/06/2009 14:40

Just checked out effie's facebook - latest update - not sure I understand half of it

Just been to seen my baby Rupert. They've changed his vent to SIPPV ( for my former collegues) but his gases are good. He has a small pneumothorax and is having a head scan later to check for bleeding! He's going to start TPN ( a food substitute) and I'm so scared for him! Thanks again for messages xxxx

ermintrude13 · 02/06/2009 14:57

Thanks for that silk. SIPPV is a form of assisted breathing which he'll need if his pneumothorax is too small to cope, and if blood gases are good it means amongst other things that he's getting enough oxygen. I think that Total Parenteral Nutrition is given intravenously and takes the place of any other sort of food, so they're not sure his digestive system can cope with milk right now. Head scan is standard for special care babes.

What a worry. But those special units are fantastic and they'll be doing a lot of tests just to rule things out. I'm glad she's keeping in touch via FB and so hearing messages of support etc.

chocciedooby · 02/06/2009 16:05

Can't believe this thread is on page 3 already!

So sorry to hear Effie is having such a difficult and upsetting time. My thoughts and prayers are for you. Baby Rupert is in the best hands he could possibly be and I'm sure he will be fighting fit very soon. (((hugs))).

Loooouise so sorry to hear about your friend on the Air France flight. Terribly sad news. (((hugs for you))).

Doris - Hows it going? Sounds like you are close to having your baby. So excited for you. Please keep us posted.

Can anyone tell me where you buy these Femme pads from? I have never heard of them before.

My very kind neighbour is minding my boys for me until 5pm She has her paddling pool out and the kids are playing very nicely with her 2 lo's. It is sooo good to get the feet up. I am so hot and bothered and swollen. I am in awful form. Really moody and impatient. I also want this baby to arrive soon.

After DS's birthday lunch yesterday in a wonderful part of Wicklow I suddenly started to feel quite ill and had to rush to the toilet. It was a non event but I was having horrible pains. I think I am also paranoid as 1 of my neighbours best friends had her 3rd baby in the downstairs loo. She had been having lots of BH's for weeks. Felt a sudden urge to poo, went to the toilet and shouted to her husband that the babys head was coming out . Her waters broke and DH had to deliver the baby on the bathroom floor. The ermergency services arrived in time to cut the cord. She was not planning a home birth. Now every time I get the urge for the toilet I can't get her story out of my head.

Sorry I am not replying to everyone. I am struggling to keep up with who has said what but hope you are all ok and coping with this heat better than I am.

June2009 · 02/06/2009 16:31

choccie What a story!!
I got the feme pads from mothercare, had seen it on a mnet list of useful things to have.

Thanks tee for this link, I wish the woman from babiesrus mentionned it to me when we went there this afternoon.

It's so hot, I'm literally dripping with sweat...might run a cold bath to cool down.

Dh has gone to do some more baby shopping (mainly a plastic bath tub) and he took the card with him, now I have a sneaky suspicion that he's going to bring back a paddling pool (and I don't even mind as I'm so hot right now.)

Naat · 02/06/2009 16:37

Hey Juners!
I've just read about you all but of course have forgotten more than half already.
Doris, really hope things get going soon. Good luck at your 6pm check.
Sorry to hear many of us had bad nights.
Insy, completely agree w Juners re.the woman from church. Why do pleople think those comments are OK?? I'm shocked at the nerve. As tee said, women judging other women and their choices is just wrong! Ignore! Oh, and hope your DH is willing to chip in and help at home with the cleaning, etc. Three LO's is a lot of work! It's more than a full time job actually. Sorry, like ermin, I guess I'm grumpy LOL

Loouise, so sorry to hear about your colleague...

June, hope ILs are backing off. DH emailed SIL back and was clear w her so I'm just hoping now that there's no drama.

Silk, any luck w the car hunt?

Bunny, did u find a nice bra?

Tee, the appt is today, I think. Let us know how it goes!

Effie, thinking of u and Rupert. xxx

Oh, I can't remember anything else!!

Well, I did Ineed's triple regime yest and, my dear Juners, I woke up at 2.30 with severe pressure on my back and ctx that felt like waves or surges. I couldn't believe they were ctx but DH decided to time them. They were 4 to 7 min apart lasting around 48 seconds (shock!)

I started moving, breathing, bouncing on the ball, etc and at 5am called the BC. MW was really nice, DH explained it all and then she asked me if I needed pain relief LOL or if I was coping. I told her I was fine so she told me to go if they lasted 1 min ev 4 mins. At 6 I managed to fall asleep with some relaxation exercises and woke up at 7 w DH. They left!!! No reg ctx, just loads of BH so no baby here!

I'll do the triple regime again tonight LOL wothout a doubt to see if LO wants to come.

Wow, this got long!! Sorry!!

Lots of waves and birthing vibes!!

ermintrude13 · 02/06/2009 16:56

Naat I had a night very much like you described with my first DC - though not caused by any form of regime - and was sure it was all happening but then it calmed down in the morning. The MW at the BC said eat lightly, rest and take it easy. We got 'The Life of Brian' out on video in the afternoon (it was the olden days, no DVD!) and I laughed so much I started having contractions again; this time they got stronger and I needed to get my TENS machine on, eventually went to the BC at just after midnight and baby was born at 1.15. So this could be IT! Good luck.

Choccie I worry every time I open my bowels now. Sometimes it really feels like everything's going to come out .DH would prob like me to do it in the bathroom, save his precious carpets .

Doris hope things are happening for you!

MrsMcJnr · 02/06/2009 16:58

Hey ladies here to do a very quick baby check and to let you know that there is nothing happening here monitoring was fine this morning and they did a scan, position still good, still estimating between 4.0 and 4.1kgs - no real contractions showing up on the monitor and that's all I know back next week for more monitoring!

June2009 · 02/06/2009 17:05

ooh, erm tens machine... I knew I forgot something important!
Dh would is worried about his floors in the house AND the carpet in the car. .

naat What a night!

On the subject of names, we have agreed on 1 name, which I think is not enough as it might not fit the baby. I brought it up yesterday and dh kept coming up with suggestions like "princess honolulu" or "consuela hoolaoop" .

All yesterday's walking has achieved is a cold sore for me, and this time it has properly come out so I had to send dh get some zovirax for me today. here's hoping it goes away very soon.

MrsMcJnr · 02/06/2009 17:08

So no more babies

Rupert - little loves, sending you lots of get strong vibes!

Looouise - that is so sad about your colleague

Insy - who do some people think they are? these choices are very personal and she had no right

On the topic of SAHM v working Mum I have just finished reading that section in the MN Toddler Guide (well worth a read ladies) it is so balanced and honest, MNetters truly are fab. Anyway, I worked hard at my career, I loved my life pre DS, I loved my job and the buzz I got from it and I always thought that the best thing for our family would be for me to go back at least part-time because I thought that I would be a better mother that way... then I met DS and now none of stuff matters, I don't want someone else seeing his or any of my children's firsts and I don't want anyone but me to look after them - I guess you live and learn!

Tee2072 · 02/06/2009 17:53

My baby will be delivered by C-Section on Thursday 11th June 2009.

Lots of baby mojo out to everyone!

lauraloo09 · 02/06/2009 17:56

oh tee thats good news that you know when your LO will arrive

naat what a night you had here's hoping its the start for you

Will catch up with rest later going in a cool bath as its so hot here, thank god i wont be carrying baby all summer! Was walking thro town today and got quite sore and crampy yet again and sounds silly but felt like baby was about to fall out

OP posts:
