Good luck for the babies arriving this week, can't believe it's happening already
I'm also hoping for my 2nd vbac. 1st one with dd2 went very well and last week consultant said the head was well down so hopefully it has stayed there until I go back next Tues.
Had my hair cut and coloured today for the first time since Sept Lovely and short and easy for the next few months
Hospital bag is 2/3rds packed, just need to think what the dd's will need if they are dropped off somewhere in a hurry. Finally remembered to buy some rasberry leaf tea today, and have had a cup tonight. Luckily I don't mind the taste, one of the few herbal teas I do like
I needed to wear bras and breastfeeding pads to bed for ages, leaked like a tap for a long time Also got huge when my milk came in, but that did eventually calm down.
Bought dd2's present from baby today, a 'baby' of her own. All the others she plays with are hand me downs from dd1 so thought she would like one that is hers from the start. dd1 will probably get a game for her Nintendo DS and they are both getting big sister t-shirs I've ordered. I do have a 'big sister' book I should start reading to dd2, we had it for dd1 when dd2 was due as well.

Ladies - how long roughly do we need Maternity Pads specifically as opposed to general sanitary towels? Bizarrely, proper maternity pads are like rocking horse shit in the local supermarkets & chemists round by me - heaven only knows why. So I'm trying to stock up and have enough packs by me to save a special "further-afield" trip out once the baby comes. So far I've got 5 packs, each with 10 towels. Should that be plenty for the really heavy lochia and then do you reckon normal sanitary towels/night time towels would suffice? I'm sort of reckoning 5 packs equals 5 days? Does that sound like a reasonable estimate?
Thanks in advance.

Good luck for c-section tomorrow christiana .

Bras in my limited experience, don't get 'em until your milk comes in, then RUN to the NCT bra woman in your area. My M&S and Mothercare ones were both crap (in that they were unsupportive and fell apart quickly) and badly fitted - both 'trained' fitters completely got my projected size wrong. I'm smallish in the nork department anyway, and didn't go huge, but engorgement for a couple of days was extremely uncomfortable in a badly fitting bra, and I almost snogged the NCT woman onto her sofa when she provided some relief in the form of a decent one. Oh, and they're still in good nick 3 years later (by the time I could have stopped wearing nursing bras cos DD was down to two feeds a day, discovered I was pg and they were the only underwired ones I had!)

NCT also do a very nice, soft, front-fastening sleep bra, which sounds a luxury but was soooo much more comfy than wearing a normal one at night. Easily popped for night feeds, or just pulled down (worked for me anyway, even with modest bazookas).

Maternity pads I seem to remember bleeding tailed off pretty quickly. But again, I guess we're all different. I remember some makes being really crap though - quickly went on to night-time type normal pads with ginormous wings instead

Hi, this is my first ever post on Mumsnet so please bare with me! I'm due to have my second child at the begining on July, which shall be baby brother or sister to my daughter who I can't quite believe is nearly 2 and a half years old already - its gone so quickly! I live in Caterham, East Surrey and I wondered whether there were any other local / localish second time mums who fancied meeting up with the new babies - the way I met people the first time round (ante-natal classes / NCT etc) don't seem appropriate this time round! I am keen to ensure that my new baby has a little group of peers, as my daughter has - plus I would really like to meet other second time mums who are socialalbe, like a laugh and perhaps the occasional evening out (in time of course - not with the newbies!) If there are any existing groups I'd appreciate hearing about them too!

And thanks for the bra-tips everyone. I had M&S ones last time but they were pretty unsupportive and are tatty now.

mumofshortie73 · 17/06/2009 17:25

Suffering massively from heartburn today, have tried dry bread/glass of skimmed milk combo but that hasn't really made much difference, must dig out the old antacids.

Hello everyone and thanks for the welcome messages! settling in fine in the new home but swollen feet and ankles have started - I guess I mustn't grumble, this is the only ailment I have had so far... not bad for 38 weeks! I wanted to ask, are any of you pregnant ladies meeting up for pre-birth drinks/teas/cakes in the Balham/Clapham area and if so, I would love to join. Many thanks. Off to put my feet under a cold shower...
