I got some cooking done today and put some tubs of lentil soup and chilli con carne in the freezer, a total lifesaver the last time otherwise we would've lived off toast & cereal for weeks

Krumbockmummy hiya ! I am also due on the 27th July and also determined to go for a vbac, we can do this !

Mij · 15/06/2009 23:10

Sorry everyone, had a quick scan of latest posts but have just come on to have an agggghhhh! moment...

36wk ante-natal check today, and midwife is '50/50' about which up this child is. Last one did this to me too - couldn't tell if lump at top of bump was head or not. Turned out she just had a bony bum but this time they're sending me for a scan. The issue, apparently, is that whatever is pointing down is so low she couldn't compare it with what's at the top, and that she could get a heartbeat in two different places (around my annoyingly-placed anterior placenta). I grateful she was honest and said 'I really don't know', but it's a week to the scan and that seems like a really long time just now!

Hope everyone else is doing OK

justlookatthatbooty · 16/06/2009 02:16

HI there

I'm new to this thread.... due on 26th July. It's 3.15am and I can't sleep (drank coffee today ooooops)!

Am preparing for VBAC, after EmCSec 16 months ago.

Very ready to stop work now (still got another 10 days or so!) as running around after 16 month old and working is proving a bit much.
Just want to rest.

Will be hanging out here frequently.

Good luck to you all!

x

JLo2 · 16/06/2009 08:53

Morning all - just a quick post to reassure those wanting a VBAC that it is possible even for babies with big heads My DS1 was an EMC as he was forehead presenting, back to back and firmly wedged against my pelvic bone. Both DS2&3 were VBACs and both had head sizes 'above average'. Makes me wince saying it . I was told at a growth scan that DS3 was going to be a big baby, but he was born at 40 weeks weighing 7lb 10 - not exactly big! He just had a big head and that is what they measure at the scan. I have already been told this one is big, but decided not to worry about it

moodylou · 16/06/2009 09:02

Morning all,

Just a quickie to say thanks to everyone who added me to facebook

It's payday for me today so i'm going out now to buy all the bits i'd forgotten to get before now. I've kept telling myself that i've got plenty of time left yet to get stuff but i'm 38 wks tomorrow so don't think i can use that excuse anymore

ActivityApple, are you going to post pics of your arse? Brave!

Somebody please tell me that going to buy new, crisp White Company bed linen for my bed post birth is a silly idea. Remind me about lochia please and the fact that it is off my budget scale when I have a non-nesting brain...please...someone!

JetLi · 16/06/2009 09:43

Morning all! And welcome newbies! Just 7 days left at work now, only I'm going to sort of miss it because at least it forces me out of my pit bed in a morning. I'd be languishing until noon watching crappy re-runs of Quincy and Kojak on ITV3 otherwise.
Had a bizarre argument yesterday with Ma JetLi about the baby not having it's own wardrobe - she wants to know where we'll hang all it's clothes. Mad woman, honestly. Since when would you put a babygrow on a bloody coathanger? Now she's on about coming over to mine and "together" we'll go through every wardrobe and kitchen cupboard, clearing, cleaning and chucking stuff out. I don't bloody think so - obviously I love her to bits but too much fussing stresses me out - I'm 38 FFS!
Good luck to christiana for the section Thursday - will be thinking of you. Don't forget the peppermint tea & windease for afterwards
Am enjoying reflexology once a week now. Relaxes me right down so when I get back from a session I sleep for a couple of hours and it's lovely. I really feel for all you ladies with a DC already; it must be so hard to get any proper rest.
Still haven't packed my bag - can't seem to get motivated with it - I'm probably in denial!! I think it's because I'm still working so it doesn't feel too imminent yet. Speaking of which I'd better go and do some work.

Patchybob · 16/06/2009 10:19

hobbgoblin walk away from the computer!! Lovely as they may be, they won't stay lovely for long!

mumofshorite I'm doing the cooking thing too. Trying to think of things to do with the 3lb of mince I bought yesterday!? Have already done meatballs. Lentil soup sounds like a good idea (not with the mince though!)

Going for a pedicure this afternoon, not the best day to indulge myself as dh company have just announced pay cuts. Well best do it before it becomes a reality!

Have a good day everyone. Off to cook all that mince!!

xxhunnyxx · 16/06/2009 11:13

hobgoblin listen to Patchybob and step away from the computer. I've got beautiful white bedding on my bed at the mo (I have a bit of a thing for nice bedding) but I've just washed my old bedding with BROWN sheets to put on post birth.

I'm feeling all inspired to do lots of cooking myself now but I've still got lots of other jobs to do so think it might have to wait till next week.

I'm in so much pain today, my back and hips are really bothering me and I feel like somebody has kicked me between the legs. Didn't sleep too well last night so just rang to try to get some acupuncture but I think I might have left it a bit late to really get the benefit from it.

patchybob enjoy your pedicure. I could do with one myself but cos my feet are so minging I don't like getting them out. Bit of a catch 22 really lol.

jetli do u wanna send your mum round to my house? I've got lots of cupboard clearing to do!
I'm sure my mum thinks that we live out in the sticks or summat. She keeps saying things like 'oh we need to get him some more cot sheets'. Why? when he isn't even going in his cot straight away. And if we find that we need something we only live 10 mins from Manchester/Trafford Centre and 24 hour supermarkets.
I know she's just excited but as long as he's got the things he needs for the first days/weeks that's all I'm bothered about, the rest we just get as and when we need them and we'll prob save money doin it that way too.

Right I'm off to do some more jobs...no rest for the wicked!

xxhunnyxx · 16/06/2009 11:25

BTW has anybody got any tips re nursing bras? Anywhere better than others? Do I need to go for a proper fitting or just buy a size bigger?

hobbgoblin · 16/06/2009 11:29

I got HotMilk ones from Bloooming Marvellous's big sell off. They were cheap but quite luxe. Had to fit them myself though...

Beccabump · 16/06/2009 11:58

Mij I totally sympathise with you! DD did that to me at 38 weeks! I went in as I had decreased movements (naturally she went wild as soon as we got into the ante-natal suite), the mw had a good feel and said 'either she has a really boney bum or she gone breech!'. Luckily as we were at the hospital they gave me a quick scan and she did indeed have a very boney bum!

Hobbgoblin step away from the pc now!!! You can have nice white things in oooohhhh 18 years??

present from DC to DD DD is getting a bike from baby! We found a really cute 1st stage Thomas the Tank bike (she is obsessed) in the Sainsbury's sale - we just have to put it together and hide it a bit closer to kick off!

JetLi lmao at Ma JetLi - sounds like my MIL! DD still only has a chest of drawers at 2 and a half...what's the point when the clothes are so small!

cooking our freezer is pretty full with stuff now and lots of friends have offered to shop and cook once baby is here - yay! Luckily DH is reasonably talented in the kitchen department so I don't need to worry too much but it is nice to know we can throw a dinner together at a moments notice (all you get with newborns!)...new mum's should practice eating with one hand and you will soon find which foods are and aren't good with a newborn. They have a sixth sense and can hear a knife and fork being used from a mile off!

Saw my midwife today for my 36 weeks check. BP is fab, baby is still head down and I noticed she's written I am 3/5 engaged - eek! That is a bit scary as I thought 2nd+ babies didn't engage until the very end when you go into labour!

She has written in big letters on my notes that I am against induction for the GD because of my experiences last time with DD. She has made me feel much happier about telling the consultants that even if they really want me to have a hospital birth I am going to go into labour spontaneously and when I see her next at 38+5 she will start doing sweeps for me to help things along . I know sweeps can be blooming uncomfortable but I really hope to get things going more naturally than last time!
She also is happy for me to start on the Raspberry Leaf Tea this week - just got to buy some capsules now as I can't keep the tea down!

I guess I really really should be packing my bag now!!

Off to sit in the sun instead though we've had no rain here since the weekend despite weather warnings so I am making the most of it!

xxx

mumofshortie73 · 16/06/2009 12:10

ActivityApple mmmmm cider ice lollies ...

krumbockmummy · 16/06/2009 13:36

Hello

just got bk from consult all is well and heading towards VBAC He is also head down not breech any more so happy days.

Love the idea about prezzie for order child will be using that one thanks xx

Andie01 · 16/06/2009 13:41

Hi all!

Sorry haven't posted for ages but have now started leave leading up to my maternity leave so should have a little more time.

My due date has changed to 27th July so there's a few of us on that day now!

Have just started looking at all the baby stuff as DH just got it out the loft - it's really bringing it home that there will be someone along to fill it very soon

Having a dilemma about getting a new pushchair - DS will be 2yr 9 months and is capable of walking long distances if he choses to but ,as toddlers do, sometimes he choses not to Also I can see him taking advantage of the fact that he will not be harnessed in and going off to investigate things!! Don't want to spend lots of money as the time it will be used is minimal but am beginning to think I really will need one.
Any advice gratefully received!

I have sympathy with all of you who are potty training at the mo. I have to be honest and say I haven't started trying yet as I don't think he's ready but part of me is thinking I should have tried before the baby. I have asked nursery what they think and they said they don't think he's ready either which does make me feel better.

Good luck to all who may get to meet their little bundles this week

Belgrano · 16/06/2009 15:37

Hi everyone
I haven't been on for ages either, and must confess I haven't read right back to see what you've all been up to but wanted to say hello. I can't believe we are all still intact - I was sure somebody would have given birth early by now!
Sounds like we're all having the same grumbling aching type issues. I have such an achy back and long to fold myself in half and have a big hard Thai massage. Sadly that will have to wait.
I am getting masses of BH contractions which quite hurt and also the head is 3/5 engaged already and I'm only 35 weeks. Midwife warned me it's likely to be early and fast this time around - yikes!
Gillyan - re. your 'interesting symptom', I have a variation - loads of dirty dreams but don't really fancy sex with my partner. Is that terrible or a normal response due to him having got me in this situation in the first place?? Feel rather guilty about it! Actually the actual act is rather tricky with an enormous bump anyway isn't it? So perhaps that's also why I'm not really up for it in real life.

BonzoDoodah · 16/06/2009 16:28

Hey Andie0 have you thought about a Buggy_Board for your older child. It fits onto the pushchair and means they can step on and have a rest when they need but walk the rest of the time without a double buggy. You can also keep him on reigns while he's on it so can't bolt.

Well I've packed my bag (mostly) and ironed the baby clothes and bedding ... feeling abit more relaxed now. Good idea to start filling hte freezer with food that can be eaten with one hand - I'd forgotten about that bit!

justlookatthatbooty · 16/06/2009 19:30

oh my god Bonzo, are you super organised or am I late. We're due about the same time and I haven't even thought about my bag or washing baby clothes etc. Better get on with it. Perhaps I'm far more pregnant than I realise.

Patchybob · 16/06/2009 20:25

Hello everyone. Had my lovely pedicure, feel so beautiful now!! hunny I wouldn't worry about minging feet! They have seen it all before and it was so fantastic sitting there for an hour having my feet massaged and pampered!

I had 6 kids for tea tonight and took them for a picnic after school instead of allowing them to trash my house. What a fantastic idea, no mess, they ran off and played and I sat in the sun and enjoyed the peace! Bliss

Andi0 I agree with bonzodoodah I had a buggy board. My ds was 21 months when dd was born and I kept the buggy for a while, but after that progressed to the buggy board and he loved it.

We have been given a quinny buzz by friends for this baby and in my mad nesting I decided that the carry cot mattress as musty and needed to be washed. I did it by hand and the minute it touched the water it absorbed all the bubbles and I spent the best part of 20 mins rinsing it to get them out! Nightmare. In the end I gave up and its now hanging on the line. (I think it will take days to dry! that will teach me to nest too much!)

Anyway off to collapse on the sofa. Have a good evening everyone x

QueenFee · 16/06/2009 20:59

bras I got these lovely ones - have been wearing them for about 6 months now and they are dead comfy (Dh says they are quite sexy for nursing bras too - always an advantage ) Bravissimo are great for fitting too. here

prams my DS will be 2 11 months and I have gone for a double on the basis he starts nursery at school so will be knackard when he comes out being one of the babies - it also keeps him strapped in and he can have his afternoon nap in there when i'm out as he is not showing any sign of stopping it yet. I also considered a buggy pod or a strolli rider (different types of buggy board)- you could also put the baby in a sling when needed and DC in the buggy.

I was awake most of last night with really painfull contractions I was just about to ring my mum to come and look after the kids when they started tailing off Hoping they start again tonight and I go into labour naturally then I won't have to have another horrible discussion with my consultant.

mij hope that baby is the right way round x

JetLi · 17/06/2009 07:43

Morning all!
hunny - the nice lady at Mothercare said their policy for measuring for nursing bra's is anything from 5 weeks before your due date. She said they would do a regular measure (so rib cage and then the fullest part of your bust), and work out the cup size as normal. Then they would take 2 inches off the rib measurement (since that will reduce after baby is born) and also go up one cup size (as your cup will floweth over once your milk comes in). So if I had measured as an actual 40D today, my "nursing bra size" (by Mothercare standards) would be a 38DD. So in theory, with that info we can measure ourselves. In the end I went to a nice old fashioned lingerie shop whilst in Whitby on hols and she measured my ribs and then just eyeballed my boobs and she was spot on - it then cost me £115 in Hotmilk bra's but bugger it - I haven't had any posh undies in ages. I got quite a good shape from them as well, given they're not underwired and I've got a pretty big "shelf".
The Mums on the board will probably be able to tell us better but I imagine that the bosom will initially get ginormous when the milk comes in and then recede slightly and balance out a bit once the supply/demand thing starts getting worked out.

woollyjo · 17/06/2009 08:30

Bras

I got 3 from figleaves online all in the sale. Last time I went for the mothercare cotton ones but hated the shape they gave me and they didn't last very well. (I'm an average size so I reckoned they should have been ok).

Remember that you will need them for night time as well if only to hold your breast pads in, especially at first until you supplies have time to settle down.

If you are anything like me the first time baby sleeps through a night feed (anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months) you will wake up with norks like leeking cannon balls!

Last day of work today so I'd better get on! baby due in 10 days

BonzoDoodah · 17/06/2009 08:44

justlookatthatbooty - I'm really disorganised but was stressing about the baby coming. Doing those few bits has put my mind at rest and I can relax again. Of course the rest of the house is a slum but at least the baby things are sort of okay. 5 1/2 weeks to go .... seems ages but also really scarily close.

Misspaella · 17/06/2009 09:22

Morning everyone
Looks like we are all on nesting mode heading towards the home stretch. I have Milton'd my kitchen sink this morning (why???) and been doing some food for the freezer. My laundry is also up to date.

I had a terrible night and have been awake pretty much since 2am. I feel very anxious and was really thirsty. I hope this doesn't mean baby is making its way towards an appearance. I have my DC's party on Sat!

Christiana hope your not too nervous about tomorrow. Can't wait to find out what you are having.

Queenfee I wouldn't worry about potty training until after baby is born. I have heard a lot of children regress when there is a new arrival. As for the contractions I can't believe it! We are due on the same day...hope you go into labour naturally!

Prams we are using our Phil and Teds E3 again as DD has just turned 2 and not really ready to walk everywhere. DS walks or scoots now which is great. We also have a lighter buggy and buggy board for shorter journeys but again this is all stuff we are re using.

Nursing Bras I am using my old ones until I get BF established as I don't want to tempt fate investing in new ones in case it goes all wrong for a 3rd time. I have spent money on getting all my bf remedies ready to go so I can combat any issues asap. I plan on taking it from there.

Wollyjo have a great last day at work. Hope you get treated to some fab leaving present and cake!
