Gillyan No I don't suspect that I have diabetes, its just a test that my hospital do at 28 weeks. I had it done with the other 2 aswell. FBC won't show up diabetes as far as I am aware, you have to have the special test done. Talk to your midwife about it. Have you have your fbc results back, you could be anaemic......I always become so at this stage, although with this one I have been on ferrous sulphate since the start as I was anaemic to begin with.

The baby has been quite quite today, not so aware of movements, but it usually kicks off in the evening now.

DS is at a party this afternoon and I'm not picking him up till 8.30pm. Blimey thats late, bless him he is only 7! He is going to be pooped! DD and I had a lovely afternoon on our own and went off to buy her some summer shoes.

Gillyan saw on fb that you also have hayfever. Mine got so bad today that I phoned the gp's and was told a that I can take piriton (not loads of it) but when needed, as by this stage it is safe. Also it is one of the older antihistamines and there are lots of studies to show it to be safe, unlike the newer one a day, non drowsy ones. Am going to take some tonight as I sneezed all night last night, it will hopefully make me sleep too

Have a good weekend everyone x

Hey Christiana was wondering how you were. Hope your blood tests come back ok.

Lucozade test - I had this test done as routing for my last 2 pg as well and now the Royal Free doesn't do it anymore as 'routine'. I guess as there is no history of diabetes (in pg or otherwise) for it is not something I am concerned about taking. Drinking all that Lucozade use to make me ill anyhow. Yuck.

I am feeling sooo tired tho. And I am feeling really sensitive. I am getting either easily offended or angry/snappy. It is driving me mad.

Beccabump · 25/04/2009 17:56

Posted this in pregnancy but thought I'd ask here too

''Hello

I am 28+3 with my 2nd pg and all day I have been feeling a bit wierd, nothing I can really put my finger on but a bit light headed, slightly queasy and just generally not right.

I have eaten and drunk as normal but just can't seem to shake this feeling.

Any ideas or advice?

Many thanks xxx''

Christiana - The rash sounds nasty, hope they can find the cause of it and get it cleared up for you.

Becca - Sorry no idea but hope you feel better soon.

I've just been through the box of newborn clothes i have got. There is:

14x s/s bodysuits
2x l/s bodysuits
18x sleepsuits
4x romper suits
1x t-shirt
1x jeans or shorts (i can't tell what they are )
1x summer outfit (to come home from hospital in)
1x cardigan
2x hats
6x scratch mits
8x bibs
1x socks
2x sleepsuit and hat sets

I know i need more socks and maybe some more outfits but do you think i need anything else. And i know this is my second baby and i really should know these things. Also considering ds was a big baby (9lb 2oz) and hardly spent any time in newborn clothes.

Beccabump hope you are feeling better today. Have you had your iron levels checked.....that can make you a bit light headed.

Phoenix Thats loads of stuff, don't think you will need more, apart from the socks, although from memory they always fall off anyway.

Have just taken some piriton as my hayfever is horendous today. Did some gardening this morning and have suffered ever since. Can't wait for the piriton to kick in as I am feeling rough!

Took the kids to see the Chuckle Brothers today and have to say it was hilarious! Laugh out loud funny! The baby loved the music and other loud noises too!

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine xx

Gillyan · 26/04/2009 19:16

Thanks for the tips guys about GTT, I think I will go to the docs this week and see what they say. Everything I have could just be pregnancy symptoms anyway.

Went to Blackpool today and had a really nice day, DD went on the big wheel and loved it but I freaked out a bit - I lOVE rollercoasters but just going round and round makes me feel a bit poo.

Got my appointment with the aneasthetist ( I'm guessing spelling )

Baby is really getting big now and wriggles more than kicks out now, hope she doesn't get too big.

Hope everyone is ok and having a lovely weekend.

thelollipoplady · 26/04/2009 21:09

aargh leg cramps! had a dream last night that i was drinking lucozade (must have been freakish GTT deja vu) and it gave me cramp in my dream... woke up with agonizing cramp in RL. leg still sore. you think it's anything to do with the 2 packets of salt & vinegar crisps i ate last night?!

Phoenix · 26/04/2009 21:37

Don't know if any of you are interested but i've just been looking at the for sale boards on here and there is a kari-me sling on there for £20+p&p Here

Hi everyone, hope all is well and babys are all active! i've had a good weekend.

took DS to see live Boogie Pete show on Saturday - he loved it and baby was kicking like mad at the music and shouting. would recommend the show for toddlers if it comes to your local theatre.

it was my nieces first holy communion yesterday and she looked sooo sweet.had a bit of a party after at my sisters and the weather was lovely. DS played so much in the garden that he dropped asleep at 5pm which wasnt great at 5pm this morning but nevermind!!!

i think i have actually decided on a name at long last. ive had mixed reactions to it from family - sisters love it - mum obviously hates it. you cant please everyone can you?!! anyway, think this little girl is going to be a Heidi.

hope everyone has a good day. hope you feel better beccabump - agree you may be anaemic. i am on iron tablets now as i was really sluggish and out of breath all the time. feel much better now.

mickeylou · 27/04/2009 10:30

doh. i mean 5am this morning!

Beccabump · 27/04/2009 10:32

Thanks for the advice ladies - I am going to see my mw at lunchtime as I am still feeling weird. Funny mentioning iron levels as we postponed my blood test last week as I was still sore from my GTT tests!

Ah well I will take her a nice vial of wee as a present

Phoenix · 27/04/2009 10:44

Morning everyone. What crappy weather here today. Rain, rain, rain Ds has loved been in his shorts and crocs and is now in jeans and wellies.

Heidi is lovely Mickeylou. We weren't planning on telling anyone in the family (told friends i can't help myself) our boys name but ds knows it and keeps saying it so some people do know but haven't really commented on it, maybe because we haven't told anyone the sex of the baby either so they just think it's an option not his actual name. It's Noah Rhys btw

Hope the mw appointment goes well Becca

phoenix and mickey really lovely baby names!

It's throwing it down here too and DD has got her winter coat back on!

xxhunnyxx · 27/04/2009 12:56

God I'm knackered today! I'm full of hayfever and it makes me feel really fluey and run down, went to Boots yesterday but they wouldn't sell me any antihistamines, they said I've got to get a prescription for them. Luckily I'm seein the MW tomos.

I got quite emotional yesterday, I woke up and my back was killing me, my chest is really sore from where my ribs have parted and I'm not sleeping well cos every time I move in the night I wake up in pain. Just feelin a bit fed up and it's only going to get worse over the next 10 weeks and it all just got a bit too much yesterday.
I'm so glad now that my Dad is staying at mine, he's been an absolute star this weekend, done LOADS of gardening and now it looks fab. He's noticed that I'm really struggling so now he wont let me do a thing around the house, all I do is cook and he does everything else .

Sorry about the winge x

Mij · 27/04/2009 13:55

Had a great weekend with DP's birthday events and lots of socialising - he has some great friends and people came from all over to celebrate and then spent yesterday hosting a succession of visitors for tea, cake, lunch, more tea, more cake. It was lovely but realised I'd hardly sat down for 48 hours and now my legs look like I've put them on upside down. I get puffy ankles anyway but this is something else! No maternity skirts for me - slouchy trousers only I think (suits me fine, as long as it doesn't get as hot as it did when I was PG last time!), and I need to find some comfier shoes too. By 8 months first time around I could only wear one pair of sandals. Think I need another pair of Crocs...

Interesting stuff about all the tests. We don't have routine strep tests here, unless your waters break and you don't go into labour straight away, I think. Luckily I don't need a GTT but I've seen lots of people sitting around ante-natal clinic waiting rooms looking miserable with a large jug of lucozade! Feeling quite lucky.

Had to have my routine anti-D jab last week, which I thought I could avoid because I'd had the unscheduled one 2 weeks before, but no - couldn't get out of it. They took more bloods too.

I'm not scheduled another midwife appointment until 34 weeks now, but I'm wondering about booking myself in at 32 weeks, partly just to get to meet a different midwife in the team! Plus I'd like reassurance about positioning, like PP said.

Re: positioning - there's lots of stuff on t'internet about helping optimum positioning, although you need to check on how quacky or otherwise some of it is. I thought DD was going to be breach but she turned herself sometime between 28 and 32 weeks, and then I spent a lot of time leaning over a physio ball to try to make sure she wasn't back to back too. No idea if it helped but she was the best way round when it came to labour, so I'll be doing it all again! My Mum says that I was locked and loaded in the right place, but then flipped over and gave her a worrying few days, but sorted myself out and came out the right way. Who knows what really influences these things...

rubyriley · 27/04/2009 14:45

Hello all

Had a lot of catching up to do but Gillyan & Phoenix LOVED your 4d scan pics, found them very inspirational! Lovely!!

Beccabump Maybe your light headedness, queazy is low bp? Mine's been plummeting down to lower figure at 52, usually after breakfast for about an hour, which midwife not concerned about (rather low than high apparently) & she says just to rest when feeling woozy.

Mij Isn't the anti D sting-y?! I had mine last week (a week late as forgot a midwife's appointment ) Had it a few times before & think depends who does it, as this time needle went in, some anti D went in, then she pushed it further in & BOY did that sting!!!

Hunny Glad your lack of movement sensation turned out ok & all is well with you.

re: positioning; My midwife suggested lying on left hand side as that puts baby in optimum position for birth. Apparently more space inside us on that side (it's been a long time since I did anatomy & physiology )

Take care everyone xxxx

BonzoDoodah · 27/04/2009 15:56

Hi all - had a mad few days and just catching up. Off for GTT tomorrow morning - not looking forwards to being hungry and stuck in hospital for ages.

I wouldn't worry yet about the baby's position - it can change a lot in the next weeks. Mine went round and round for ages and I couldn't even feel it. And no the midwives aren't perfect at determining the position. They told my friend that baby was nicely head down so she spent ages on her birthing ball bouncing him down and down. But on a scan at 40+ weeks he was breech and had been for ages - sigh!

Also - GroupBStrep - I took the private test myself last time as I'd read a lot about it see_here but hadn't been offered it by our NHS. I tested positive so had intravenous antibiotics in labour and after the birth. It was all fine except I reacted to the antiBiotics with terrible diarhea (sp?) and was moved to a single room in case it was an infection. This was super as I could have visitors when I wanted and wasn't woken in the night by other people's babies! Result!

Gillyan · 27/04/2009 15:57

Hi guys, been to see the aneasthetist. I have started a thread in childbirth but I'll copy what I have put here too.

I'm booked in for a section on 2nd July. I am having one as had a 3rd degree tear last time that was very bed. I am having a lot of pain now from the scar tissue too. It5' staken me months to make the decision about the section.

I went to see the anaesthetist today as when they gave me a spinal for the repair job last time it took 9 attempts to get the needle in. It was very painful and I remember screaming for them to just knock me out. It did work eventually though.

I thought today was just to discuss it and get it in my notes so they would know I am difficult next time. He said that it would be better to knock me out completly though this time!!!! I am not too sure about this and said so and he said well they could try the spinal for as long as I could take it or they thought was reasonable. Needles don't bother me at all so I am more than willing to let them try. I think I only screamed to be knocked out last time as I had been in labour and was bleeding everywhere and totally fed up etc..

I feel really gutted as I missed the first 3 hrs of DD's life by being in theatre and I don't want to have to miss the first hour or so of this one's life.

Also he said the risk increases with a general and about 3/4 pregnant woman die each year from aneasthetic problems....starting to think ending up with a colostomy bag from giving birth may not be so bad now.

Any one had similar experience or know anyone who had to have a planned general??

Beccabump · 27/04/2009 16:39

Hello all

Seen the mw, bp fine, wee fine, heartbeat good and bump spot on for size.

She took bloods to check my iron levels and will get back to me if there are any problems.

She thinks it's either my iron or I'm sickening for a virus - got her instruction to rest lots and generally take it easy (Hubby away for next 3 days so not really going to happen!) and to go back or call her if I'm still feeling poorly next week.

Got to keep my extra 31 week appt too so she can check up on me!

soozze · 27/04/2009 16:43

hi all,

It's been ages since i've posted but managed to mostly keep up with all your news. hunny - glad all went well at the hospital. I have had a few trips into the hospital with bleeding but each time the baby is fine and head down already apparently.

phoenix - i'm amazed at your list, I think i'll need to get a move on shopping. I also need to dig out ds's stuff and see if any is useable for the new one though. It feels like the time is going so fast now.

on shopping, i'm still trying to decide between a kari me and a moby - does anyone have any experience of both? are they just the same thing but different brands?

Is anyone thinking of taking raspberry leaf tea? I'm thinking I may get tablets this time, the tea was quite hard work to drink, not horrible but just sort of there rather than nice.

mickeylou - my ds is the same, starting to hug and kiss the bump. It's so lovely It hasn't happened when the baby is kicking or moving yet. I hope it does, I wonder what his reaction would be!

Sorry Gillyan no useful experience of your quesiton, but maybe if they do try the spinal it'll be different this time as it'll be at the beginning and not after you've already been through so much labour and stress.

Phoenix · 27/04/2009 17:06

Good news from the mw Becca, glad all is well, hope you feel better soon

Most of the clothes i've bought are from the NCT sales i've been to. I've got even more stuff in 0-3 I just kept picking stuff up.

xxhunnyxx I hope you get your hayfever sorted out. My gp has prescribed piriton and I have had to take it a couple of times as mine has been awful. Like you I feel all fluey and rough. It doesn't seem to work very well but does take the edge off it. I was delighted to see the rain today as I knew it would be better!

I am seeing my midwife on thursday and am looking forward to it. I think my bump looks quite a strange shape at the moment, think the baby must be lying across? so it will be interesting to see what she says, although i know it can change.

Phoenix Noah is on my list too! We really can't decide at all and DH and I seem to be on different planets this time round! We both quite like Martha for a girl though. I love Hugo for a boy, but he has said a big no to that! DD loves it and has decided to call her favourite teddy bear Hugo. DH says its fine for a teddy bear but not for his son!!

Anyway, thats me for now. Have a good evening all and enjoy the Hells Kitchen Final! x
