LoobyLou I have just eaten FOUR of the chocolate biscuits I claimed not to want earlier . I must find another way of getting rid of them because while they are sitting here I can't avoid them. And I don't have nearly such a good excuse as you do! Hope you do sleep better tonight.

andrina · 03/03/2009 15:20

hi all!

this is my first post on mumsnet. i am 31 weeks along today and our first baby is due 5 may! both dh and i are very excited!

i am wondering if moms or moms-to-be on this thread meet up? i've moved to london last may and would love to meet other moms/to-be, preferably in islington area. not sure if this is the right thread to be initiating this.

take care everyone! x

sausagenmash · 03/03/2009 15:38

Afternoon!

Dandy - soz you are poorly - don't think my germs can travel through cyberspace!

Welcome to flooziesusie and andrina - I'm pretty new to MN too so unsure about the initiating meet up thing - maybe someone else can shed light? Am London too, but in the deepest darkest south...

I've got an active night baby too... gggrrr.

Does anyone know if you can take those bach's natural rescue remedy squirty spray things? Was a godsend for me pre-up-the-duffness. I asked my MW today, and she wasn't sure.

So, MW - had a student MW in there too, which was fun. Actually saw MW I'd seen before - blimey! Had the bloods done, easy peasy. Had a chat about my sad weepyness, and they said they weren't surprised with everything I've got on (PhD thingy, work, being pregnant, wedding to plan, being dumped by best friend, planning to move in 4 months) - felt good to talk about it, so thoroughly recommend it matthewandbumpsmummy - dp and I had a chat last night too (inbetween my gulpy sobs) and he was so lovely. Feel a lot better today as well, so I guess a problem shared, and all that malarkey. Pink LO measured 27cm (hurrah) and is head down for now, and nice wooshy strong heartbeat. Hurrah.

Gah, I need to get knickers that fit. Oomf!

LoobyLou36 · 03/03/2009 15:43

thanks fikelly

Welcome andrina

I went through all the baby clothes I had bought, been given, etc last night and found out I had quite alot of 3-6 month stuff but not much 0-3. I have got a few babygrows, vests and 3/4 cardigans/jackets so I assume this will be enough to carry on with. As we don't know what flavour the baby is I didn't want to buy too much in advance.

Does anyone have experience of tens machines and where to hire them from? Is it worth hiring one?

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 15:44

andrina hiya there are a few london based mums here... i'm in the west country though... weston-super-mare. We did all chat about the possibility of a post birth meet up somewhere all of us UK ones could all get to... but nothing has been decided yet.

Sausage i'm sure we're fine with the rescue remedy... i've bought some for my labour kit/bag and quite a few of us have used it before... ikwym about the pants too lol!

LoobyLou - I've used TENS before for back pain and in my opinion its just OK. Depends on the severity of it I suppose... Haven't used it in labour so someone else here may be able to say their views...

I am so tired today. DH came home from Bulgaria on Sat night and on Sunday we went to the new shop premisses, and also on Monday before he had to go off to his regualr work. But we're opening tomorrow at 6pm and so far I have put in the most work. I have put all the stock up on the walls, loaded the display cabinets, arranged the store (and built the shelving!!!), and done all the vacuuming too. He put a few bikes on the walls on the hangers and arranged them in price order on the floor, but then he wasted spent time trying to log inline and doing things that in my opinion could have waited to the end.... very frustrated emotion!!! Then he'd stnad there looking at everything and saying 'this is a lovely bike - absolutely gorgeous'!!! Yes I know it is, just get on with things!!!! ....And chill.... I think I'm getting tired and easily irratated - can you tell???

Right need to go and deliver my friends Xmas pressie ( a book that has only been delivered yesterday - out of stock and hard to get!!) and go to the Post Office to collect a parcel... see you later..

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 15:55

looby i've hired one from boots.com as it looked simpler than the mother care one and i get advantage points too ... i asked the same question a while back as i never got the chance to use the one i hired for ds birth last time with having the emcs... from those of us that has used one the consensus is it does do something!

OP posts:
euromum · 03/03/2009 16:05

looby re tens - I used it last time until I got in the bath, when I got out we didn't bother sticking it back on as it was all a bit much and I had a epidural pretty soon afterwards. So I don't really have anything to compare IYSWIM - but I found things pretty manageable for the few hrs before the bath, so maybe it did help. In any case being able to increase the power with the contractions is quite a good diversionary tactic - it gives you the feeling of having some control!

andrina · 03/03/2009 16:10

my due date is 5 may. this is my first child and we are expecting a boy thanks fikelly for offering to update the list.

sausagenmash - whereabout in the south are you? meeting somewhere in central london (waterloo perhaps?) is always a possibility if anyone is up for it. but no worries, i am quite happy exchanging tips and chatting here. we can always arrange a meet up later.

Febes · 03/03/2009 16:10

Hi newbies and welcome. I found MN when i was 32 weeks with DD and its a great support.

RE Tens I hired one from mamatens or something like that and for about 30 pounds you hired it for up to a month. I used it in early labour and found it quite useful. It doesn't take away the pain but it at least gives you something to do. I will be hiring one again this time.

My bump is so big now I'm sure this is how big I was at 40 weeks with DD and I'm only 31 weeks. My measurements are all normal 28 cm at 28 weeks etc and sonographer said that the baby was measuring small. DD was only 5'11" so I'm hoping for another small one. The bump must be fat and baby unfortunately.

Dandy- I have also been vomitting again on and off for the past few weeks in the morning I thought the baby might be having a growth spurt.
Must go and pick up DD from the childminder .

febes was the mamatens one easy to use?

I had a leaflet from Bounty today with a discount voucher for MamaTens in it. It costs 19.99 to hire for 6 weeks which I thought sounded reasonable.

andrina · 03/03/2009 16:26

has everyone bought the pram/pushchair, car seat, cot and nursery, feeding and bath stuff, clothes and toys etc? are you all prepared?

i am just wondering if we are too late as i have a list of things to buy but we haven't gotten round to buying/ordering them except for the pram/pushchair and car seat.

andrina welcome! This is my second baby so I'm reusing everything, although this time I have bought a crib rather than a moses basket. I found with my first we went a bit over-the-top and bought things that we either didn't use or didn't need. With my first I wanted the nursery sorted by the time I was 30 weeks, this time we haven't even got around to painting it because we know that baby won't even set foot in there until he is 6 months. So we are a bit less prepared this time!

There is a specific topic area on mumsnet for meet-ups, plus there is mumsnet local too.

floozie welcome to you too!

fikelly I hope you get more sleep tonight. We didn't get much either as DS is ill and he ended up in with us. I felt so tired today...made me very worried about life with a newborn too!

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 16:38

andrina we haven't had to buy much as have all nursery crib, bedding toys etc from when we had ds. i have gone a bit mad buying girly clothes on ebay though i still have to buy a new mattress for the crib and some wrap over newborn vests etc as gave a lot of ds's newborn clothes away..

Hi everyone

We went to mw yesterday and we are measuring 37cm at 31wks !!!!!!

LoobyLou36 · 03/03/2009 17:18

bantam ouch!!

what did the MW say?

Polony · 03/03/2009 17:26

Based on that theory Dandy and Fi every time we think about the sort of person we may be expecting, DP and I half cringe, half laugh. If the Chinese horoscopes anything to go on, all of our children will be fairly chilled yet also artistically inclined and ridiculously good looking.

Glad all is healthy Dandy, even though you must be feeling pretty rubbish with that bug. I have my monthly scan next week - I'm really curious about which way the baby is positioned, so am dying to find out. Part of me is curious about the flavour - having the scan is like sitting in front of the christmas tree wondering what might be inside the parcels.

Fi perhaps you could get a treadmill for DS? I am in awe of those of you with toddlers - I'm sure I'd be in a padded cell by now. As dear as they are!

Andrina I'm very close to Islington. I don't know any mothers or expectant mothers in London either so it would be nice to meet up - should we all try and organise something? How do we do that? Also I was having a bit of a fret over not having anything for the baby yet - we did order a pram, high chair (thats early of course but we got a bargain) and cot so thats done, but haven't anything else. We're not doing a babies room. I've been keeping a list though of what I want to get so that in April or May I can sit down and order it all. Deciding on nappies was the hardest part. I keep trying to relax, we'll get what we need and it'll be fine if we forget something - the shops will be open when we have our baby. Its amazing how that stuff gets obsesive though. There was a while there where I felt like a crazy pregnant woman time bomb about to go off in public and start spouting jibberish about nappies and strollers and cots and all things baby.

Polony · 03/03/2009 17:29

Part of me is curious about the flavour?? Um, I'm totally curious about the flavour. Would make the name hunt easier but not as much fun and not as much of a taunt to my poor mother and therefore not as much fun [guilty/sheepish but deviant emoticon].

Polony · 03/03/2009 17:33

Holy crap looby if that doesn't knock you out I don't know what will. You probably needed the biscuits after - seriously needed them, not our usual "oh you need chocolate" need. I have been craving a swim for ages...won't do it though because our local pool is a slippery hell all the way from bathroom to poolside and the most preposterously difficult pool to get into if you've got bodgy legs and the water is disgusting...whinge whinge whinge...
