We are having another scan next wk to re-check size of baby aswell as my water levels. We had a scan last wk and found out that some of my waters have been leaking and water levels are low. If we loss any more water we might be induced due to risk of infection!

I have discovered what to do with my 'free' time now (just realised that there won't be as much of that as I thought, with DD2 and the mountains of paperwork darling DH has decreed I shall do for him) - ferry children around to endless sporting things/social occasions/the park and make endless drinks/snacks/meals for poor starving babies who have been at school and have only had 2 breakfasts, morning snack (plus milk), lunch, afternoon snack and only have homemade gargantuan feast to look forward to for tea.

I did always know that being a SAHM was hard work, harder than being at work! Quite worried about lack of adult conversation but I can have quite grown-up chats with DD1.

Andrina Welcome to MN. We are all a bit spread about the country, but it looks like there are quite a few of you in London, so I bet some of them could meet up with you.

As for getting things ready for the baby. I never had a nursery for my dd, as we needed the room for the au pair. The thing is: the advise is to keep baby with you in your bedroom for the 1st 6 months, so a nursery isn't all that urgent really. I think what you do need to make sure you have is the big things, such as a cot etc... I'm obviously reusing this time (it's no3), but 1st time around I was silly enough to leave buying the cot until I was 34 weeks and it turned out that the cot I really wanted had a 6 week delivery time, so I had to choose something else. This time around it's a similar thing, a new wardrobe for ds will take 6-8 weeks, and I'm 30 weeks, so... cutting it fine again to create space for lo.

Dh and I are looking at moving the family to Kent. It has been on the cards for years now, ever since he got his job with the Port of London. Now it looks like we'll move this summer I don't really want to, I love my house, garden, hospital, dcs school,... The only thing I'm wondering is how my ML will be affected. I can't work out if my employer is the NHS or the Trust I work for, because if I hand in my notice before I finish my ML I'll have to pay back some of it if my employer is the Trust, but not if it's the NHS as I would be looking to continue to work for the NHS. It's a bit tricky asking my employer, because that would make it obvious that I'm not coming back after my ML and it's actually not 100% yet (only 90%). I'm in a bit of a dilemma as to what to do.

looby I'm sure your 40 laps in the swimming pool would make up for a whole packet of biscuits! Don't think I could do 40 anymore. I'm out of breath just going upstairs!

llareggub · 03/03/2009 18:52

bantam73 good luck with the scan, I hope you are feeling OK.

divedaisy · 03/03/2009 18:59

Fi - thanks for updating the list - you got the dates right!!

Welcome flooziesusie and andrina! I too have most of my stuff from the first preg - really only had to get a new pram system and this time I'm trying reusable nappies. I too went overboard for No1 and really I paniced and was obessively anxious about the preparations. Think about what basics you NEED the rest can be got later and makes a good excuse to get out of the house and go shopping with your new baby!! I can't wait to do this! I've the pram and car seat sorted, have a crib/moses basket & bedding (& sleep bag), baby monitor, bouncy seat thing, muslins, reusable nappies (& some disposables for hospital & until baby grows into the reusables!), 7 vests, 7 night suits/baby grows, 4 pairs socks, pairs scratch mitts, 2 cotton hats, a few outfits (for each sex), couple of cardigans, fleecy all-in-one, nappy box stuff - creams etc, steriliser (handy too if BF), baby bag, breast pads & shields & cream, Mat pads (get loads!!!) & some disposible knickers. I need to find the gel pad things for swollen fanjo area and get some arnica for bruising!

I;m finding it hard to believe time's almost up for us - 10 more weeks will fly past... where will I put another 10 weeks worth of baby growth??

divedaisy · 03/03/2009 19:06

Looby - 40 lengths - good on you girl!! I used to do that until a few years ago when I had to stop swimming due to neck injury. I'm not allowed to do front crawl or breast stroke because of the angle of the neck and too much side to side... I don't like doing back stroke cos to me it doesn't feel like 'real' swimming!!! (and I never could do butterfly!!)

Belgianchocolates · 03/03/2009 19:06

flooziesusie I forgot to welcome you too. Welcome!!

bantam Hope your next scan is OK. I'd be surprised if they'd induce you at your stage though. Usually they give prophylactic anti biotics if your waters have gone early and leave baby alone. They only induce if you have any signs of infection, such as a high temp. Hope this is not the case though, it must be very worrying.

bantam73 · 03/03/2009 19:10

Thanks llareggub, I'm feeling fine, just nervous

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 19:12

Talking about maternity pads... with having the cs last time i didn't need the big & soft ones... what recommendations does everyone have. The pads are one of the last things i need to buy and i'm not sure which really big ones to get?! Mothercare/boots/other??

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 19:15

Bantam keeping everything crossed that your next scan shows all is well fluid and baby wise. But I'm sure they'll do everything they can to make sure baby stays inside as long as pos...

We should be fine but at my last 3 MW appointments have been with 3 different MW's so it's hard to get proper info

divedaisy · 03/03/2009 19:47

FiKelly - I'm buying tescos maternity pads just cos it's handy when Im doing the shopping! But would also pick up boots own brand. Cheap, thick and disposible!!! And plenty of them. I read somewhere recently that you should buy about 100 for the first week! I would agree with that. The amount of blood loss was a real to me last time - what was even more of a was that DH actually went to Tescos and ASKED an assistant there for advice and bought me some without feeling embarrassed!!!! Good on him!!! I'll be going to the hosp wiith loads of them - cos there;s nothing worse than sprouting a leak or overflowing!!!

divedaisy · 03/03/2009 19:48

OK away to get ds to bed and then I'm into my promised oily, moisturising bath wallow!!

Febes · 03/03/2009 19:51

I got tescos pads as well so I might keep getting a pack or two each time I do a shop. Especially if I need 100!! I only bleed for 10 days with DD so hopefully it will be similiar with this one.

LoobyLou36 · 03/03/2009 20:13

divedaisy 100 maternity pads!

Think I'd better buy some more, have only got 2 packs.
What reusable nappies have you gone for?
I am so tempted to buy a couple of outfits for LO even tho we don't know the flavour, want to get a cute coming home outfit, probably silly might have to look on ebay

Tummum · 03/03/2009 20:30

Evening Ladies and LOs. Just checking in to say hello.

I have to admit I have nothing organised (yet) for this LO apart from a blue push-chair that arrived this weekend. I suppose I had better get on with painting the (pink) bedroom blue before I get too huge (DH is useless at painting). Oh, and packing hospital bag and buying baby stuff... haven't even got nappies sorted yet

Hugs to everyone feeling sad / low. I saw MW and HV today as part of my AD support. I do find it emotionally knackering but it is good to talk. I now have 3 things to do this week - 1. Write a list of baby stuff that needs sorting between now and May, 2. Do something just for me without DH or DDs (no idea what this should be yet - any ideas??) and 3. Book the day off work next Friday because it's my birthday and I want to do something nice ! What is reassuring is that it looks like my AD is absolutely to do with being pregnant, and so hopefully this will not translate into PND.

Anyone else suffering with heartburn all of the time?! I have an aversion to Gaviscon after 2 previous pregnancies, but am so desperate I am now swigging this from the bottle. Yuk !

pulapula · 03/03/2009 21:26

Fikelly- I was surprised to read you didn't need the big pads with your cs- I still seemed to loose a lot of blood after mine. And for anyone having a cs, I recommend them for tucking in the top of your pants to protect your "wound" too - the MW suggested this for me, and it really felt like i was protecting it from any bumps (and i could see from the pad if the wound was seeping in any way. I just used whatever was cheapest- they all seemed similar- boots, mothercare etc.

llareggub · 03/03/2009 21:28

pulapula I did the same as you with my pad. I felt a lot more secure knowing that the pad was protecting my wound.

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 21:40

pulapula I think the reason for my not needing them was due my post partum haemorrhage and the manual evacuation they had to do to stop the bleeding.. there wasn't much left to come out

OP posts:
pulapula · 03/03/2009 21:42

fikelly guess that would explain it !

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 21:56

phew... just finished listing more of ds's clothes on ebay... i think i'm about a third of the way through the pile i have to do! I have to photograph the next lot though so i think i'll give myself an evening off tomorrow

Hi Ladies just a quick hello and wanted some advice please on what to pack /how much for C section this time. My last birth was also c section but emergency and all a blur as to what had/needed, thanks ladies x

llareggub · 03/03/2009 22:08

bekkaboo I was told I'd be in for 3 days for an elective c-section, so I'm loosely packing around that. I'm definitely taking flip-flops for the shower, lots of t-shirts for the irritatingly hot ward and thanks to someone on here, my own pillow!

I'll be sending clothes home with DH every night to wash my clothes so hopefully I'll leave with a lighter bag.

FiKelly · 03/03/2009 22:10

bekkaboo your elective cs will mean a lighter bag for sure. I had an emcs too so had a full labour bag last time and didn't need half of it. My guesses would be arnica cream for bruising, maternity pads, cd of any music you want played during your cs, toiletries & snacks for day after... comfy pj's or night shirt that doesn't catch you around the incision... and high waisted knickers for the same reason. I'll prob think of more things but i'm sure those that have had elective cs's already will be able to do a much better list!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 03/03/2009 22:23

ooo and the stuff if you're breast feeding... lansinoh cream, pads, nursing bra etc. Maybe even some windeaze/peppermint oil stuff in case you get v gassy after the cs?!
