Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

Thanks Queenfee
I have been doing some reading up on this and it seems that measuring the baby's size has so many factors to it. On the plus side, I get to see the baby again on screen in 5 weeks time!

lydiathetattooedlady · 17/04/2009 21:35

im so jealous of all you having 4d scans i want one!
i spat my drink out laughing at you queenfee and selling my pubes on ebay!
just done a gift list on mothercare as family keep asking what we need so thought that would be the best way of getting what we actually need (want!) x

xxhunnyxx · 17/04/2009 22:29

mispella sorry to sound stupid but how does the MW actually measure baby? MW only ever takes my blood pressure, tests my urine and listen to heart beat, this time she also had a feel and said that he's growing well but didn't actually measure.
I would have thought that measuring a baby inside u wouldn't be an exact science tho.

Well I'm a bit pissed off at the mo cos my ex didn't bother coming to the ante natal class last night and didn't even bother to give me an excuse, he just turned his phone off! He's a complete waste of space sometimes and I'm just really disappointed that he's let us down. I've told him that the hospital wont let him be at the birth if he doesn't come to the other sessions so I'm hoping that may do the trick! I'm the one who's got to go through 9 months of pregnancy and then all the pain at the end of it and all I'm asking him to do is come to 7 classes but oh no he can't even manage that! Knob head! Sorry for the winge

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 01:02

misspaella My friend measured small for dates in her last PG and had to have a growth scan at about 34/36 wks ( can't quite remember ) she had her DD quite close to due date and she was 6lb 40z so small but had no problems with her. Thats all I know but I wouldn't worry too much about the measuring. When I was PG last time they kept telling me I was going to have a huge baby and was measuring weeks over what I was - I didn't I had a 7lb 5oz and it was all fluid. If you are worried maybe a scan will help and will be able to check properly for you.

phoenix Mine is with baby Premier - Cheadle Alexander Hospital, been told the scan will taek 45 mins and to expect to be there for 1hr 15 mins. They too said about if baby not in a good position they'll send me off for a walk etc and the choccy and try again. I'll be 28 + 2 tomorrow. I will try my hardest to put the photo's onhere but I am crap so will try and get DP to do it, I'll put it on FB too

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 01:05

misspaella sorry just read your post properly and see you are going for a growth scan - that'll put your mind at rest

hunny They measure you from the top of your uterus to the top of your pubic bone just abouve your fanjo. at your stupid ex, hope you're ok xx

Misspaella · 18/04/2009 08:14

Thanks for all the words of reassurance....I am sure all is fine. The baby is a real active bubba so small or not, he/she seems strong!

Hunny you are right to be p*ed off with you ex. Either he wants to be a part of the baby's life from the beginning or not. But he needs to stop messing with your feelings and stressing u out unnecessarily. Hope you manage to sort this out.

Off to enjoy the sunny day. Doesn't the sun just have a way of lifting moods.

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 10:25

Hunny - My mw didn't measure me at my 24wk appointment either. at your ex.

JetLi · 18/04/2009 12:20

I've abdominally fondled on every antenatal appointment hunny but there has only been a bump that could be measured on the last 2 appointments and it was measured both times (I have kept wondering why the MWs have tape measures around their necks - now I know).
Hope your DP gets his bloomin' act together soon .
Full-on fasting GTT yesterday. If I never see a glass of Lucozade again in my life it'll be too soon. I've had 2 glasses of the wretched stuff in the last 2 weeks and that's more than I've drunk in the last 20 years. Don't get the results for 3 or 4 days, but desperately hoping it's negative for gestational diabetes.
Re: fundal measuring misspaella my maternity notes have a fundo-symphysis height chart in them - at 28+1 I am measuring 29cm so MW said average 29 weeks .
Looking at the chart, 28 weeks can measure from 24cm up to 30cm. If you're outside those measurements, then it says "further tests may be required". The MW yesterday reckoned they can be out by up to 3cm, so she was very much "not to worry". But that's easier said than done I know, and I'm measuring big as opposed to small....
Still can't decide about the 37 week holiday. At least though DP is cracking on with the nursery now. Was beginning to get a wee bit hormonal about it. I thinks it's all the GD nonsense that's getting to me - my hospital are keen on a 38 week induction in cases of GD which means for me a June baby and potentially puts my remaining weeks into single figures, so consequently I'm crapping myself now.

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 16:54

Back from my scan. It was really good but could have been better if baby had cooperated a bit more. We are definitely having a boy . He threw a big paddy at one bit which was funny, he was throwing his arms and head around . Those of you on Facebook the pics are on there and i've put a few on my profile too. He looks like Ds1 (ooh it's weird putting that lol)

Hope you got some good pics too Gillyan

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 16:59

And just a thought but if you comment on any of my pictures on Facebook please don't put anything about it been a boy cos it's still a secret in real life

Phoenix the photos are scrummy - did you go to the place in Kendray? That place was recommended to us. Have been sorely tempted myself, especially since I saw bugger all of the 20 week scan. But don't want to know the sex so we held off.
Not at all happy about the potential induction ActivityApple - really not happy . Tried to get Ma JetLi to drink the Lucozade but she wouldn't . But after reading the NICE guidelines on GD and researching lots on MN, I shall put up one heck of a fight. I can see the point when lives are threatened - pre-eclampsia for instance - but the guidelines only talk about big babies being a "risk" and they can't accurately estimate baby sizes from what I can see.

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 19:19

Yes JetLi it was in Kendray, are you from round here? They ask before they scan you if you want to know the sex and if not they keep away from that area. Saying that she pointed out the scrotum and penis to us and we couldn't see it anyway lol. But i guess they know what they're looking at

JetLi · 18/04/2009 19:32

We're local-ish - used to be in Deepcar but we're now in Bramley where the weather is positively tropical by comparison and I don't need special extra-grippy pegs to keep my washing on the line!!

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 19:37

Hi guys.

phoenix your pics are lovely, congrats on the baby boy!

I have just posted my scan pics onmy profile ( very pleased I figured it out )

I was very lucky and little girl was in a really good position. It was so good and the DVD is wicked. We can see that she looks like DP and has my nose. My mum and my DP's parents and 2 of my friends have seen the DVD and all said the same thing. It was so so good!

Have a look!

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 19:44

Oh wow they look lots clearer than mine, they're great

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 19:54

Thanks Phoenix, did you get a DVD with yours? The DVD was amazing. I am lucky to get such good pics, there was a girl there who had been walking up and down for ages and they still couldn't get any as baby was in a bad position. I gave her my spare chocolate bar! The woman doing the scan said how good the position of little one was. So pleased as had been worried all morning that they wouldn't be able to get any.

Did you enjoy it?

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 19:57

Just looking at yours again, have u taken a photo of the scan pic and put it on like that? Mine may just be clearer cos we had a CD rom of stills so they have gone on really well. Arh he looks gorgeous your little one xx

lydiathetattooedlady · 18/04/2009 19:59

awwww gillyan and phoenix ive just seen your pictures there amazing! i want one doing now! my dp would kill me but just out of curiosity how much is it for a 4d scan?? i really REALLY want one!
dd is being so cute at the minute, has been rubbing cream in to my belly most nights, talking to the baby its so sweet! although tonight she was adamant baby was a girl and wouldnt be told otherwise eek!
activityapple im also ebaying at the moment, selling off all of dd's old clothes and bits and pieces hmmmmmm...maybe i should put that money towards a 4d scan??

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 20:03

I had to keep turning onto my side then back onto my back and at one bit have a little walk up and down the corridor. She said the 2 scans she'd done before mine were both girls and they behaved worse than my boy did but he was still been pretty awkward

Yes got a short (5min) dvd. We haven't shown it to anyone else yet but we've just watched it. A lot of it is quite blurry and unclear because he kept moving but yes its good and we enjoyed it.

Gillyan · 18/04/2009 20:06

Thanks lydia I'm well chuffed! My package was £160 but they only charged us £140 - ( did not ask questions ) For that we got 15 prints, a CD ROM with 26 stills on and the DVD which is 16 mins long. Also it was extra cost for gender confirmation and we got the gift package with picture frame, teddy etc. We went to Baby Premier which was based in a private hospital in Cheadle. I think you can get them a bit cheaper though. Oh do it, it's once in alife time. Use the baby grant thing we get as thats a bonus!

Off to watch Britains got talen. Mr Methane is on tonight ( prof wind breaker ) and he's from my home town - Macclesfield! Enjoy!

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 20:06

Lydia - this is where i had mine. We got the cheapest option and a cd rom of pictures for £10 extra.

Gillyan - I've took photos of the b&w ones that's why they're not particularly clear but the colour ones were from the cd rom.

Phoenix · 18/04/2009 20:09

That sounds better value than ours Gillyan.

xxhunnyxx · 18/04/2009 20:35

I'm so jealous of these scans, I wanted one a couple of weeks ago but wasn't sure if the pics look a bit weird so decided I'd just wait to meet him but now I've seen all these pics I think it would be amazing to see such clear pics of my baby.
I keep lookin at babies and thinkin ''i wonder if mine will look like that'' and I've even got an image in my head of what I think he'll look like, which of course is likely to be totally wrong! lol

QueenFee · 18/04/2009 20:36

Gillyan /Phoenix I am sooo
They are brilliant
They have actually made me feel really broody for this baby as they look so much like a newborn IYSWIM
