Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

Haven't seen mine in weeks. I'm sure I'll need to get the lawnmower to it

EvieBear · 16/04/2009 12:44

Haha - I can't see mine either. Went for a waxing last Sat which was great. Have to say though, take a paracetamol before you do any waxing, it really helped as apparently senses are heightened and it can hurt a lot more!

xxhunnyxx · 16/04/2009 12:59

eviebear I have heard that it's more painful when pg, I was gonna get bf to get down there with the Veet but now that we're just friends I think that might be a little inappropriate. Then again it's nothing he's not seen before and he is going to see even more when I'm in labour!

BonzoDoodah · 16/04/2009 13:49

JetLi I'd be wary of going too far at 37 weeks ... but then again ... take your notes and just be prepared if anything does start. You really can't tell. I was 2 weeks over but a friend in my AN group was away 2 hours from home and started contractions - at 37 weeks! They decided to drive home as it was only 2 hours ... well after one hour the contractions were coming really close together so they had to drive off the dual carriageway and into the nearest town and screech round looking for A&E! She had the baby there and her husband had to drive all the way home and get her notes and clothes and stuff and then come all the way back. She said it was a bit of a nightmare. But as I say if she'd just gone to the local hospital she would have been fine (and had her notes and stuff with her).

As far as weight goes - I've put on about a stone and a half. So am much bigger than last time. Last time I only put on a stone in the whole preg and when I had the baby I lost two stone so I actually lost weight while pregnant. Really don't think that's goign to happen this time though. Too much chocolate [wipes chocolate bunny from side of mouth]

Gillyan · 16/04/2009 16:37

phoenix my pack thing says I need a full bladder and the more I drink the better pics I will get. I'm strating to wonder though if thats just a general rule and might be for the earlier scans, I'm going to e-mail the place now actually and check.

hunny I can't even see mine anymore In fact I shaved blindly down there last night and and am getting good at guessing!

lydiathetattooedlady · 16/04/2009 19:02

he he, i was contemplating asking how people are keeping themselves...ahem...maintained down there! i was trying to see what i was doing whilst shaving with a hand held mirror but i couldnt see anything and my glasses and mirror kept steaming up! dp has offered to do it for me but i dont want him brandishing a razor between my legs eek!
have started selling bits on ebay to raise money for baby fund! fingers crossed it makes us some pennies!

QueenFee · 16/04/2009 20:04

Hi ladies.
Had my consultant appointment today and she was really helpfull. She has basically said that there is not a lot they can do to avoid a 3rd degree tear as some people just seem more likely to have them than others. She has put in my notes to monitor me closely at the pushing stage and try and slow this down as much as poss (both dcs came out very fast ) and she is also going to check babies size at 35 weeks and if it still seems big she will refer me for a growth scan with a view to possible early induction. Both DCs were on the bigger size but both my brother and DHs sister were nearly 11lb . She said I am measuring about 30 weeks at the mo and I am 28 weeks. She wasn't very happy at my refusal to have an episio this time though.

lydia I read that as selling your pubes on ebay I had to have a trim down there recently as realised as I walked past a mirror it had kind of been neglected as I hadn't seen it for a while From here on it's down to DH to do the gardening.

Has anyone else ever been induced due to a big baby? May start a thread on MN to get more ideas on it.

Phoenix · 16/04/2009 20:49

Queenfee - there was a thread running a few days ago called something like - Big baby, induction or c-section which may help you.

QueenFee · 16/04/2009 20:51

thanks will pop and look for that

Phoenix · 16/04/2009 21:16

Sorry didn't think to link to it. It's here in case you don't find it.

london11 · 16/04/2009 21:22

Evening everyone,

I am going to risk sounding really dense here but......how do I fit the bra extender to my bra? It has come in 2 sections - one piece with a set of hooks on and one piece with sets of catches on....do I need to sew them together...or to the bra....or am I over thinking the whole thing?

Serious question - I can't work it out

Phoenix · 16/04/2009 21:27

Not sure but a bra has hooks at 1 side and catches on the other so i would say put the hooks on the extender into the catches on the bra and the hooks on the bra into the catches on the extender iyswim.

QueenFee · 16/04/2009 21:28

london I think you hook the hooks to the eyes and the eyes to the hooks so making both ends longer. No sewing required. Thats not clear is it will hunt for a diagram...

Phoenix · 16/04/2009 21:28

Sorry didn't read that it had come in 2 sections I don't know.

london11 · 16/04/2009 21:52

Whats confusing is the hook piece only has one set of hooks on, so once I have hooked it to the bra it is just a dead end. Then the catch piece attaches to the hook side of the bra making a longer strip of catches!

If I only attach the catches piece I have two sides of bra that are catches...therefore cant do up bra....

Is anyone confused yet?

EvieBear · 16/04/2009 21:58

I'm having a chuckle here - sorry london!!! It sounds like a weird bra extender - mine just come in one piece...

london11 · 16/04/2009 22:09

Thanks for the help Evie

I offically give up! Stupid ebay cheapy bra extender!

ilikeyoursleeves · 16/04/2009 22:44

Hi all, it's taken me ages to catch up and now my baby brain has forgotton who said what! Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. How scary that folk are starting to get BH's and thinking they are in labour- eek!

Re travelling at 37weeks, I personally wouldn't only because my labour with DS started at 37+4. I plan on staying put from about 36 weeks I think this time. But then again you could well be one of those folks who go well over their EDD so I guess as long as you feel OK with going to a different hospital then it's fine- just carry your notes everywhere!

Not much has been happening here. Back to work this week after being off with an awful cold. I really can't wait to finish now, I still haven't decided the exact date I'll finish due to still waiting to hear how much annual leave I can carry over to the other end of mat leave. Hopefully I will be able to carry it all over so that will give me 2 months A/L from next March so I won't need to go back to work til May!

QueenFee · 16/04/2009 22:46

Maybe you do need to stich it then?

Gillyan · 17/04/2009 12:17

phoenix I had a reply from the scan people and they said yes they recommend a lightly filled bladder and they recommend I take some chocolate and afizzy drink in case I need to get baby moving around a bit. I am taking that as actual medical advice that I need to go to the shops on a in and buy some chocolate and fizzy drinks!!

How many weeks are? Good luck for tomorrow.

EvieBear · 17/04/2009 15:48

Does anyone have any good tips for relieving colds when pregnant? Can I put my head over a steaming bowl of water with Vicks vapor rub in it? I really need some tips as am flying to Lanzarote on Sunday..

Misspaella · 17/04/2009 17:12

Hi everyone
Gillyan and Phoenix before I forget, good luck with the 4D scan. How exciting!

Measuring small for dates
Well I would love get some feedback from anyone who has every measured small for dates. I had my routine check-up w/hospital MW today and she is sending me for a growth scan in 5 weeks times as I measured 26 (just) instead of 28+. I have not had this flagged at my 20 weeks scan or at my last MW appt. I am feeling a bit worried now.

I have been putting on weight (about a stone so far) but I did lose some weight at the beginning due to my rubbish MS. Also, I am still feeling my MS so not exactly eating for England. Could this be why?

She did say not too worry (easier said than done) and to wait and see.

I am also carrying the baby quite low and even the MW said the baby was low (on another note, is that something to worry about too?).

Anyway if any of you have had this in past pg and can give me advice let me know.

May copy and paste this actually to PG thread too.

How is everyone else doing? It is nothing but rain here and quite hard work with 2 restless children.

QueenFee · 17/04/2009 19:18

Mispaella The consultant said to me that 2cm either way can be fine, and it can depend on how the baby is lying. Surely it makes sense if your baby is lying low your uterus won't be as high above the pubic bone as a baby that isn't IYSWIM. They are only taking mine into accout due to my history of bigger babies and bad tears.
My DD was head down and engaged from 28 weeks and stayed there if that helps.

Phoenix · 17/04/2009 19:37

Gillyan - Who is doing your scan? Mine is with Babybond, I emailed them this morning and they replied with 'You do not need a full bladder, the appointment if baby is in correct position should take about 40 minuets. If baby is not in the correct position we will ask you to go for a walk to try and move baby about.' But i like the idea of fizzy pop and chocolate . I'll be 27+1 tomorrow. Good luck for yours too I'll put photos on tomorrow.

Misspaella - sorry no idea about measuring small for dates, hope someone can reassure you. It could be to do with the position the baby is lying in.

Phoenix · 17/04/2009 19:39

Ooops cross posts Queenfee, it took me that long to write that.
