Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

Glad I'm no the only one experiencing BH's.

'lydia' I'm getting well stressed about how big I am. I have put on about 2 stone! Eek! I am hoping a lot of it is water as it was last time. I'm a bit the opposite of you I am 2 stone heavier this PG than I was in last one. I yo yo with my weight. Managed to lose a lot of weight about 2yrs ago and then it just creeps on again and last year i had loads of operations which meant all my exercise wasn't possible, then we started trying for a baby so I didn't think it was worth loosing it if I was going to fall PG anyway...oh dear I am like a whale. Last time the weight fell off me within 2 weeks and I just know it won't be that easy second time round, or maybe it will??? But I doubt it. I've got a plan though! Once I am better from section I am dropping DD's hrs down to just the free 2.5hrs a day at nursery, she will finish at 11.30 so I can go and pick her up and then I'll walk the whole way round the massive park that the nursery is set in before coming home for lunch. When I was on mat leave for a yr with DD I put weight on but when I started back at work I lost half a stone in 6 weeks just from walking DD to nursery and back. Having DD already though is a great excuse to get out of the house EVERYDAY! And I'm gonna start doing my old exercise DVD's again which DD will love dancing round to while baby sleeps. And I have my exercise bike...I lost 2 stone without even dieting 2 yrs a go just by going on my exercise bike 5 times a weeks for 45 mins! WE CAN DO IT! I reckon we should start some kind of post-natal slimmming club on here for us all when everyone is well enoough to give a toss about our poor bodies

Anyone done any slimming groups?? I have done slimming world and it does work I just can't stick to things very long. I do totally believe in the old fashioned eat less and move more though again it's just sticking to it.

I'm getting uncomfortable a lot now, it hurts to go from sitting in bed to lying down and getting the washing out of the machine made my bump ache today and pushing DD on her Trike round the park nearly killed me.

I'm looking forward to my scan on Sat, I'll try and figure out how to put pics on my profile on here, I'm not very good with stuff like that, I'll get DP to do it.

Got a ady to myself tomorrow and I plan on doing nothing but reading a new book.

Love to all x

lydiathetattooedlady · 15/04/2009 08:26

morning! have been up since 5 due to massive thunder storm, my little brother is really neurotic and thought it was a plane crashing! cue him running round like a maniac!
gillyan love the idea of a post natal diet club thingy! i am hoping the same that iw ill do lots of walking to take baby weight off! its about a 3mile round trip in to town and back so hoping that should help shift some weight!
i was going to join ww with my friend (again!) til i discovered i was pregnant! ive done ww, slimming world, rosemary connelly (our local celebrity!) but am the same as you and believe it should be portion size/healthy eating and exercise, im rubbish at sticking too a strict diet!
anyway better dash off and walk the dog before work-very jealous of your day to yourself

Misspaella · 15/04/2009 10:42

Morning
Gillyan I can't believe the BH scare you had. Glad you are ok. I definitley feel mine stronger this time round too. I'm guessing as this is my 3rd pg I am more aware and my body is working harder. Apparently after birth pains are stonger too the more pg you have had. I felt like I was in labour after I had DD (2nd baby). Lovely....

Weight gain in pg
Oh I find this subject so touchy, don't you all? Someone asked me how long I had (I said 12 weeks left) and they felt the need to respond back by saying 'Oh aren't you going to be huge by then...'.

Some of my mommy friends also have the need to assess my bump and analyse every time they see me. I think the hormones make me touchy about the weight thing. I have to admit as this is my 3rd pg I am not eating ice cream every night as I did my last 2 but I am not "being good" either. Too boring.

Gillyan · 15/04/2009 11:14

Morning all

lydia it's really windy here too and the rain woke me up loads last night.

misspaella people don't think do they. Did u read what I had put on here a while ago, I was in hospital after falling down the stairs just be checked and a MW came and asked if I had had a wlak round to see if that would get things moving....she thought I was the lady that was being induced! WTF!

I don't remember having afterpains with DD althought it took a while for the epidural to wear off. I remember the cramping pains when I was breastfeeding but I think that was my uterus shrinking.

I slept last night for the furst time propped almost upright and I was so much more comfy than on my side.

This baby feels enormous, I can feel her kicking like all over me and to the sides a lot more than I remember with DD.

Didn't get much sleep last night what with the weather and DD woke up crying a few times so I'm going to get in bed with my book now.

Belgrano · 15/04/2009 12:52

Ooh I want to go back to bed with my book Gillyan. It's grey and windy and I am stuck at work (not obviously actually doing any work though!)
TOday I am wearing some trousers that fitted last week and today they are distinctly tight around my rotund **se. I know I keep banging on about it but it's piling on SO FAST! I don't dare weigh myself any more.
I am replacing my ancient and knackered desktop computer at home with a laptop. Any advice as to whether to buy a 15 inch or a 17 inch screen? 17 inch obv better for photos etc (this will be our only computer in the house) but is less portable and heavier, whereas the 15 inch is much handier for carrying upstairs or doing stuff on the sofa with it on my tummy. It will mostly live in one place but there's no point getting a laptop if its too heavy to lug anywhere at all ever...

Gillyan · 15/04/2009 15:03

Hi belgrano I'm starting to feel a bit guilty about finishing work so early and going on about my days at home - sorry guys, not long for all of you now.

I have no advice on laptops I am not good with such things.

Don't worry about your bum! We can do a post natal slimming club or something on here once we've had these babes - I say don't worry but I am too. It won't be long now

Misspaella · 15/04/2009 15:54

Gillyan yes I remember now about your MW saying that.Grrrr to all the comments we get between now and DDay.
Enjoy your book and don't feel guilty about being off work. Come summer time you are going to long for time to read and sleep whenever you want.

Belgrano we have a 15in laptop (apple macbook pro) and it works great even for pics. The only reason to get a 17in is if you are doing lots of photoshop or other graphic packages from what we were told. DH is a designer and finds for his work the 15in is fine. Hope this helps!

JetLi · 15/04/2009 16:50

Hi all - just catching up with all the comings and goings from everyone.

Wanted opinions from the existing Mum's if poss - we're looking to book a week off on holiday before the baby comes. What with all the bloomin appointments, antenatal classes plus other stuff going on, the easiest week for me to have off work and go away would be week 37. The plan would be to go to Ma JetLi's place in Scarborough which has all mod cons (like a home from home) and we would be an hour and a half away from home/hospital (not counting Scarborough hospital which would be much nearer).
So the question is, am I being a bit ambitious? Or even downright stupid to go away at that late stage?

Gillyan · 15/04/2009 17:13

hi jetli I had my DD at 37 weeks so for me I am not going anywhere more than town and back from about 35/36 weeks. Also you might be pretty uncomfortable by then and 90 mins in car may not be too much fun, totally up to you though. You could reach 42 weeks couldn't you!!

xxhunnyxx · 15/04/2009 17:34

Oh I'm so glad that I'm not the only one become a fat cow! lol I've but on 1 stone 9lbs now.

gillyan I lost 3 stone doin weight watchers 2 years ago and also managed to keep most of it off until getting pregnant. I swear by WW cos it's more about teaching you good eating habits rather than just losing a shed load of weight which you'll just pile on as soon as you stop the diet. I'm planning on just healthy eating and lots of walks when I first have baby, hoping that it'll just drop off with the breast feeding

EvieBear · 15/04/2009 18:27

I'm wondering now about my DP flying to see his sister in Ireland - she is due 4 weeks before me and he said he would like to fly back for one night when she has the baby. I will be 36 weeks (that's if she doesn't go over! if she does I could be 37 or 38) then - do you think it's ok for him to do so? I would NEVER forgive him if I went into labour and he wasn't around!!!!

What would you do? I'm thinking now that Gillyan has said she had her DD at 37 wks, that it's all a bit risky. As I've said before we don't have any family around either.

dannyg · 15/04/2009 18:29

Hiya all what a lovely hot day shame i was stuck at work though . Had consultant apt yest as has c section with ds1 good news was i was discharged unless midwife felt baby was breech, bad new was they picked up proten and glucose in my urine sample, so am being tested for diabetes. Also on antibiotics now as have sinus infection which has been lingering for 3 weeks!. Told doc yest i should be feeling healthy and full of energy but reality is i feel crap and drained. On a brighter note going away with dp this weekend to Rye sooo looking forward to no kids and chilling out. Been having some strong braxton hicks too x x

It wasn't a warm sunny day here its been raining and thundering all day. Very black too

going away I personally would as went over with mine and especially with a first labour as long as you come home as soon as you feel any twinges of labour starting you should be fine IMHO My hosp is half an hour away anyway so just an hour difference. I do think going away with a new baby is quite nice. You feel better in yourself (generally) and you get to make so much use of your nice new pram We haven't planned to go away this year but may up and off camping on the spur of the moment if things go well.

slim club hmmm I won't be cruel and join as I actually have the opposite problem after I have had the baby and go too thin and have to drink body building milkshakes etc to stop me losing too much weight. I put it down to breastfeeding and very active children Admittedly I did put on 3 stone in both pregnancies before but it just seemed to drop off me after.

belgrano of your laptop would love to sit on the sofa and mumsnet...

Gillyan · 15/04/2009 21:14

evie you just don't know at all when labour is going to happen, if it wqere me I'd play it safe and forbid him to go! I sound so cruel, it was my first PG and I really didn't expect my waters to go then. Having said that my contractions didn't start properly till 1am ( my waters broke at 12 noon ) so you might have plenty of time to get yourself to hospital - it's a toughie

activity at the big fart!

dannyg sorry you're ill - I'm back a the docs tomorrow to have them look at my ears again and reckon I'll be given more anti-biotics

hunny I had a firned who lost 5 stone on WW so I know it works but I always seem put off by the fact once you've had your points you're done whereas slimming world had lots of 'free' food which you can having without limits. I think ( hope ) I'll take a bit of a more mature approach to getting the weight shifted this time and really develop some self control. I have been battling with my weight ever since being about 17 and I am really unhappy. I am naturally heavy set and even when I lost 3 stone and had not one ounce of fat on me I woun't be slimmer than a size 12 which is fine by me. I'd be comfy at a slim size 14 but yo-yo between that and almost an 18. I don't seem to ever get bigger than an 18 which is good but would love to get back to that size 14.

queenfee you lucky thing you! although it must be hard for you too if you actually need to be a bit heavier. Still quite though

Phoenix · 15/04/2009 21:20

Hello everyone

I'm useless at remembering what to reply to but i'll give it a go

I never had BH or after pains with ds so have no idea about either. Sounds scary though.

Weight gain - I have no idea cos i haven't stepped foot on any scales but my friend told me the other day that i look bigger than when i was having Lewis. On the other hand my auntie said on Saturday 'I know you're pregnant but from the back you look like you've lost weight.' No idea where she was looking but that was nice to hear when everyone is saying how huge i look

I went 9 days over with ds too so would probably think about going away at that stage, especially as its your 1st and its pretty usual to have long 1st labours.

We're planning to go camping some time in May (if i decide i can sleep on an airbed at 29-30wks pg .)

We're going to the Baby Show on Fri 15th May

I think i'm pretty much decided i don't want to go for a VBAC. Ds was back to back and 9lb 2oz and i'm really scared of going through hours of labour again to end in an emerg c-section. I would rather know what is going to happen if that makes sense. I just need to convince the hospital when i go back in mid June.

I'm very excited for my 4d scan on Saturday

I've got 2 and half weeks left to work and i can't wait

I know none of that ramble is aimed at anyone but you know who i'm talking to

Gillyan · 16/04/2009 00:31

phoenix my scan is sat too, can't wait either, good luck

Jenny79 · 16/04/2009 00:44
Hmm
Jenny79 · 16/04/2009 00:47

Ladies.....

Where did all the bunny smileys go?

WHO ATE THEM ALL???!!?
THEY WERE NOT CHOCOLATEY!!

Phoenix · 16/04/2009 10:55

The bunnies were just for Easter

Good luck for your scan too Gillyan (do you know if we need a full bladder?)

xxhunnyxx · 16/04/2009 10:56

Got a funny pregnancy symptom to share....my pubes have changed colour! I know that it's normal for hair to turn darker but in my case it's gone blonde! Weird!! Do u think it could mean my baby is blonde and his pigment has transfered to me? lol

Cheekycel · 16/04/2009 11:21

would love to reply to everything, but am hopeless at keeping up , but i do have to mention.... xxhunnyxx u can still see your pubes!! lucky you! i have no idea whats going on down there and feel so sorry for the beautician everytime i go for a wax! sorry for TMI

xxhunnyxx · 16/04/2009 11:52

cheekycel I can only just see them if I pull bump up so in another week or 2 I think I'll be needing a mirror - not like I have a thing for looking at my pubes or anything lol.
