Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

OP posts:

Hia hunny sorry you have had a horrible couple of days, i personally think you deserve a few days off , I think the water infection one is a good excuse made worse by bubs sitting on bladder lol. Had a good day today appart from baby brain making me leave my handbag in the toilets then half hour later notticed something was missing!! luckly it was still there untouched. Got bloods tomo including Diabetes one. Hope ya all well x x

pop1973 · 20/04/2009 18:40

Hi I am due at the beginning of July. This will be my second.

I was told today that the baby was measuring 2cm more than it should do according to the midwifes tape measure.

Anyone any idea about what this might mean ?? Am I obviously getting too large ?? I am now 29 weeks.

QueenFee · 20/04/2009 20:15

Hello pop I am also apparently 2 cm bigger than I should be but both of my previous babies were well over 8lb so they just think it's a big baby. A couple of cm either way is fairly normal as it can depend on how bubs is lying etc IIRC.
hunny glad everything is ok. Have some time off sick 'female complaints' men hardly ever ask when you say that (but plan it when the weather is like today
cheekycel wow that was so lovely of your friends especially as you appear to be missing your folks x
jetli I have had a very difficult baby and an easy one. We survived! My first was easier escpecially as you can sleep when they do in the day. I am doing it all again so that says something!

LargeGlassofRed · 20/04/2009 21:50

Hi all, have no internet in new house yet, I'm so missing the net.
Moved just before easter and am shattered, only two weeks left at work though yippee!
Had a growth scan today and both boys still on 50th centile and around 2 lb 11oz.
Felt really sick and dizzy when I was having the scan really difficult to lie flat on my back now.
Think my bump is around the same size as when I was full term with other 3
My waist is now 47inches!
Anyway lovely to hear every ones news hpefully sky will get there act together and will have the internet back at home in a couple of weeks.
Btw cana't remember who mentioned lyme park and maccelsfeild but thats where I grew up.
Lived in Disley and went to college in maccelsfeild my brother still lives there.

Gillyan · 21/04/2009 00:36

Welcome pop I wouldn't worry too much about measuring 2 cm bigger.

LGOR Hello it was me - I live and Macc and went to Lyme Park the other day, small world! Hope your move goes okay

Morning...Apple sun is shining strong on North London too. Isn't it great??? Puts me in such a better mood.

I am really getting snappy lately.

Measurements - from reading our posts lately seems that the infamous tape measure doesn't reassure many of us. Wonder if it is even worth them doing?

Hunny glad the fetal movements were ok. Were u especially tired? I notice that when I am very tired and lethargic the baby seems to be tired too. If in doubt, I use the icey water trick too. Nothing like the cold to wake up baby.

Better take DS to nursery soon. Have a good day ladies.

mickeylou · 21/04/2009 09:17

measurements - i actually measured a tad too small at my 24 week appointment and i look massive! midwife said its more visual with me as i am so short.

feel sorry for you activityapple - both my midwives are really good - in fact i'm never sure whether to make an appointment with the wednesday or the thursday lady as they are both so lovely i dont want to offend one by seeing the other!!

this little one is getting very active now and DS is showing a real affection for my bump by hugging it and saying "i love you baby." bless him, i am still worried how he will react to not being the centre of attention all of the time. how did everyone elses' first DC react?

JetLi · 21/04/2009 11:03

Bleurghhh - indigestion/heartburn has struck. Is Gaviscon safe enough? Yuck....
I'm sure a bit of sunbathing would cure it

xxhunnyxx · 21/04/2009 12:43

Jetli yes Gaviscon is perfectly safe and your MW can give u a prescription for it - which reminds me I still need to pick mine up.

Welcome pop. What date are u due? I'm due on 6th

chellebelle · 21/04/2009 12:55

Hello all, have been lurking for quite a while now and feel I probably ought to out myself . I have DS1(8) DD(3) DS2(20mths) and am due 22nd July with DD2 - God's plan - not ours!

So jealous of your 4D scans - they look great!

JetLi yes Gaviscon is fine at this stage although I think ice lollies / ice creams + sun bathing are probably the best medicine .

xxhunnyxx · 21/04/2009 13:02

BTW LO has been very active today, had elbows and feet poking out etc

Oh and I'm skiving work for a bit tomos so I can go and look at another nursery. Is it just me who thinks nurseries should stay open longer? I finish work at 5.30pm and they all close at 6pm so it means I have to use a nursery close to work so I can get there in time but cos I work in Manchester city centre they all cost a fortune.

BonzoDoodah · 21/04/2009 13:31

hunny glad the baby moved and all is well.

Gaviscon is great - I get through a 500ml bottle every 2 weeks - so am really glad to get it on prescription so don't have to pay for it. I get all stressed if the bottle is running low. This heartburn is terrible. And started earlier this preg.
Baby has been kicking me like mad - is great fun. Real big thumping kicks.

mickeylou · 21/04/2009 14:14

yuck to gaviscon - my sister used to swig it out the bottle with her two. both had lots of hair or is that just an old wives' tale.

welcome chellebelle - wow you really are going to have a house full!!

chellebelle · 21/04/2009 15:31

haven't heard that one about gaviscon linking to lots of hair - thought that linked in with how early / late they are. I agree though mickeylou I really don't like the stuff - I had really bad heartburn/indigestion with DS2 (he was a big boy - 10lb 14oz - and pressed on my stomach alot!) so ended up having the chewable tablet form instead, could just about manage those.

hunny glad to hear your little one is moving well again - I have recently found that ice creams really make this one wriggle (best excuse I've come up with for eating ice creams yet! )

JetLi · 21/04/2009 16:41

Welcom chellebelle and pop1973!
Thanks all re: Gaviscon - will get a small bottle to be going on with, and then tap the midwife up for a prescription monster pint bottle.

xxhunnyxx · 21/04/2009 16:44

chellebelle I think they say babies with lots of hair give you heartburn, not that Gaviscon causes lots of hair lol... but I think it is just another old wives' tale.
I don't like Gaviscon either, I like the fruit flavoured Rennies (they taste like refresher sweets) but they're costing me a small fortune!

xxhunnyxx · 21/04/2009 17:25

Is anybody else getting puffy feet/ankles with this heat? I've been fine up until yesterday and all of a sudden they're huge!

mickeylou · 21/04/2009 17:59

yep legs and ankles are swollen and back is killing me again! damn that office chair! its so glam being pregnant isnt it??!!

Beccabump · 21/04/2009 18:49

Eeeek - saw mw today, GTT all fine but am measuring 30cm at 27+5. Mw says I have a good sized one in there!!

Down here we can only Gaviscon Advance(the good stuff) from the doctors direct as all the mw's give Rennies Duo

xxx

Beccabump · 21/04/2009 18:50

oh, and my ankles are sooo puffy and sore!

woollyjo · 21/04/2009 19:27

The MW sorted me out a prescription for renitadene for heartburn, it is much more effective than gaviscon and you only take it twice a day. It has worked really well but I am now getting heartburn again despite the meds early evening (like now) so swigging milk.

Patchybob · 21/04/2009 20:13

Well, wish me good luck everyone....am planning to get a good night sleep! I haven't had anything to drink for a while now (had a big drink before bed last night as was gasping and then weed every hour!), I am going to have a warm bath and then get into bed with my book. Will it work....probably not but will keep you posted. I really am getting desperate now!

Re heartburn and heads full of hair, my ds was totally bald and I never got any heartburn. DD had a full head of hair and I had loads of heartburn and this one so far I haven't had any at all? Baldy? Wonder if it will be!

Sometime ago I posted about my friend who had a m/c at christmas and then proceeded to blank me periodically, cry about her behaviour and tell me she was sorry and then blank me again. Well she is still blanking me and I think she may be pregnant again as her hubby was at school yesterday collecting he kids and said she had a sick bug that none of the others had caught. Slightly suspicious. Anyway she totally ignored me today, walked straight past me.I keep wondering what to do when she tells everyone she is pregnant. I wonder if she will expect our friendship to resume (we were so close). I will be so pleased for her, but feel so hurt and let down by her, she hasn't been there for me at all and never once asked me how the pregnancy was going, its as if she is pretending that I am not pregnant. Sorry for the rant, but need to get it off my chest.

Anyway, off to continue preparations for my good nights sleep! Will let you know how it goes tomorrow! xx

QueenFee · 21/04/2009 20:17

Gaviscon has become my new best friend I also swig it from the bottle I used it a lot with dds pregnancy but not with ds and she and ds had the same amount of hair...

My feet are definately swollen but I guess thats to be expected with all the extra weight they are having to carry!

Anyone else who can no longer cross their legs? It's driving me crazy as I always cross mine and now I just can't

hello chellebelle

Should I be worried that DS and DH had a farting competition this evening?(bearing in mind ds is only 2.5!)

Cheekycel · 21/04/2009 21:30

ankles & legs are fine, but top part of feet are really swollen, so pumps, sandals and even flip flops are cutting into my feet!

patchy ive been getting into a routine of having a leisurely bath most nites, slathering some lovely moisturiser and just slowly winding down. Within an hour i'll be nodding off. Also i dont have anymore liquids after 8, so might only get up once during the night. DP went on a "expectant fathers" course on Sat and keeps coming up with these little nuggets of wisdom , so now i sleep with an extra pillow between my legs which helps to relieve backache. Good luck and hope some of that works for u.

gillyan & queenfee i dont normally miss my family as UK is now my home, but it would be nice having family around to educate me in this new phase. I go through stages that I think I'll be a hopeless mother or wont be able to bond with my baby.

have GTT 11/5 as BMI is over 30, also have to meet with the anaesthetist (sp?), guess pg has just been too easy thusfar.
no heartburn as yet, but lets not say that out loud!

nite nite x
