Thanks kikatqueen, makes it seem more real seeing my name on there. I already have a ds whose 6, so a big age gap, but a little helper too

Rachel1963 · 11/02/2009 11:39

Hi all, sympathies to everyone still feeling sick. I was 15 weeks on Monday and I've still got nausea. I had it with DS till about 16 weeks so I was hoping it would be beginning to be on the way out now but yesterday it got worse and worse and I ended up actually being sick which NEVER happened with DS. And it was my birthday too - not the most riotous one ever as I ended up in bed at 8pm!

pussface · 11/02/2009 12:36

Good morning all, I'm 16 weeks today and starting to get used to being pregnant .

Hope all those suffering start feeling better soon!

nuttygirl · 11/02/2009 12:49

Hello everyone.

Sorry to hear so many are still feeling ill. Mind you I've only just stopped feeling ill and I'm due at the start of August.

Meeting last night was really interesting. It was run by an IM and she was lovely. Made me a bit that we can't afford one. Will have to keep my fingers crossed we win the lottery . They also had a hypnotherapist there talking about using that for the birth (and afterwards). Was v interesting and I'd already won a hypnotherapy CD on ebay that I intend to use. Hadn't considered it before but my doula used it during her second birth and said it was wonderful. No way was I spending £240 on a course though...am kinda expecting my labour to be too fast to use it!

I know it's really early but I've started writing my birth plan. Just because I keep seeing/hearing things at groups and on forums etc that I think "Oh I want that" or "I don't want that" so am putting it all down so I don't miss anything. Bit different from last time when birth plan consisted of "dh to cut cord. would like to try breastfeeding"

BoogieWoo · 11/02/2009 16:01

Hello - I've added my name to the list below - have been lurking throughout the thread as also feeling a little superstitious about engaging too much! It's so lovely to hear how everyone is doing and great to feel that I'm not alone in my podgey figure. Went shopping the other day for some non-maternity (but forgiving) clothes....how depressing. If I had my way, I'd be off to work in my pyjamas every day.

Hi all,

Been lurking somewhat, mostly because I've been feeling so awful that I couldn't face doing anything I didn't absolutely have to do. Thankfully I'm feeling better now (which is a great relief). I told my boss on Monday. Weirdly he asked me if I had enough room for a baby. I'm not sure if he meant inside my uterus or in my house though.

I've added myself to the list, with my new, scan-approved date of 11th August.

Evening all, welcome all you newbies and congrats!!

May67, please try not to worry about your scan. When I was having DD they found a similar thing but it was coming from the placenta, I was terrified, it was there at each scan, it turned out to be nothing. I should have listened to the sonographers who told me it was nothing to worry about!

I got my blood test results back today for my nuchal test last week, risk is 1:5700 so pretty good. We told our older boys after school, they're really VERY excited phew!

How's everyone doing? Hope you're all well and sickness improves.

OP posts:
olivo · 11/02/2009 20:24

HI everyone, getting more and more nervous as my scan date approaches, only 9 more days to wait. lots of scary thoughts going through my mind though.

VJay, good to see you on here!
still feeling sick too

HeinzSight · 11/02/2009 20:25

Don't worry olivo, you'll be fine x

OP posts:
May67 · 11/02/2009 21:32

Heinzsight- thank you for the reassurance, I'm sure if it was something important then the sonographer would have made a bigger deal out of it, so I'll just try not to worry!

Monkeyfeathers- great anecdote, what did you say to him? Reminds me of work ringing and telling me not to go in when it was snowing, boss asked if I had internet at home then said what would I be doing all day, I replied 'building snowmen!' and he said 'ummm I meant workwise'.... oops.

Olivo- know how you feel, I felt like I only started to breathe again after my scan on Tues. The last 12 weeks have felt like years. Fingers crossed for you.

LittleFairySmile · 11/02/2009 21:56

Hello all and congrats to newbies. Wow readyfornumber2and3, twins.

Nuttygirl I didn?t think you were nosey. This is the place to air views (and I was asking for people?s views on IM BTW) as we?re not rich and we?re not posh, so ?going private? is a bit extreme for us, not least because we can?t afford it, so was wondering what other people thought!

Starting to feel less sick, thankfully, but still as tired though! Hey-ho!

Am happy my baby bump is getting noticeable though. Several friends have commented that it?s coming along nicely, or words to that effect. It?ll et a bit tiresome towards the end I?m sure, but now, it?s nice to just be slightly pregnant!

I also think I?ve been feeling tickles!!

monkeyfeathers · 11/02/2009 23:23

May67: I only really said that I was pregnant. My boss (who is pretty vague at the best of times) replied that it was great news and then asked if I had enough room and stuff, which was kind of an odd response really. He then asked me if he could tell HR, because he needed to ask them what needs doing. He generally just bumbles along and hopes everything goes fine, so I wasn't surprised that he has no idea about it all. So I decided it was probably best to tell the my colleagues instead (we work in teams for certain parts of our jobs) so they could plan around the eventual maternity leave themselves. As an added bonus, they all reacted like normal people to the news and got excited etc.

HeinzSight: We told our 8 year old the weekend after our scan and he was more excited about it than I thought it was actually possible to be. He literally bounced around the house singing about how happy he was, and then he insisted on telling everyone he was going to be a big brother when we went to the shops. It was very cute. He did look at the scan image somewhat skeptically though, before announcing that it was clearly a duck.

nuttygirl · 12/02/2009 09:59

Morning all.

Feel a bit odd here. Starting to realise I can't be fully prepared for every eventuality at the birth and it's making me see how little I trust the midwives. Have even contacted a few IMs for prices and have found we can pay monthly over 24 months if we need to. Still not sure about it cos we don't know how safe dh's job is . It would mean using ALL my savings and our overdrafts and possibly even the credit card as well.

VJay · 12/02/2009 10:03

Oooh littlefairy I can't wait to feel tickles.
Hi olivio, I finally made it on here. I was on the June antenatal thread, but had to leave, so that's why I've waited so long. I had my scan last week at 11+2 wks, I wanted it a bit later, but up here thay do the dating scans between 10 and 12 weeks. Everything was fine though which was such a relief
monkeyfeathers, lol at your son saying it is a duck. We've not told our ds yet, we are just letting ourselves get excited now, so will tell him soon.

May67 · 12/02/2009 10:43

Duck! LOL! Showed FIL the scan pic on skype and he said it looked like a puppy. And he's nearly 60 so no excuses! We've told DD who's 3 and she has told everyone at her nursery by saying 'I know a secret. My mummys got a baby in her tummy!' It's still a pretty fluid concept for her at the moment though as she just wants to know if its coming out yet.

It's good to hear how people's bosses have reacted, I'm a bit scared of telling mine which is stupid I know. I'm sure they'll be fine with it.

monkeyfeathers · 12/02/2009 11:34

I was absurdly scared about telling my boss, which is odd as he is the least scary man in the world. And my work are generally really family-friendly and everything. So I had no good reason to be concerned. I managed to use the snow as an excuse to put telling my boss off for over a week, but eventually the other half (who works in another department here) put his foot down and insisted I tell my boss so he could tell people in his department. I've been stupidly scared about telling anyone about it really. I think it's probably because I had my DS fairly young (certainly younger than anyone expected) and everyone was horrified when I told them. So everytime I tell someone this time I expect them to look disapproving or something, and then I'm surprised that they don't. I really should stop being so silly.

That's really cute about your DD, May67. I let my son tell my mum on the phone (she lives hundreds of miles away) and he was hilarious. He said 'My mum's going to have a baby' and then, in the same breath, followed that up with 'and I built my lego clone ship', as if they were both of equal importance. She had to get him to backtrack to the baby bit. Other than that he's just really interested in the baby and wants to know as much about it as possible. I got him a really nice book for primary school aged kids all about where babies come from and relevant stuff like that (I think it's called 'Let's Talk about boys, girls, babies and families' or something), and he was completely fascinated by it all. He's even been taking it to bed to re-read himself. He's also very concerned that I'm going to love the baby as much as I love him. He made me promise that I would at the weekend.

kitkatqueen · 12/02/2009 13:59

Hi monkeyfeathers Thanks for your post about the book I have been fielding some tough questions latley from my almost 5 yr old on the lines of " ok so I understand that daddy gave you the baby and you are going to keep it in your tummy until its big enough to come out, but how exactly did daddy put it there and exactly how is it going to come out?" and "Does the baby come out of your bottom like a giant pooh mummy?"

nellyup · 12/02/2009 16:18

Ooh, thank you for book recommendation monkeyfeathers - my 6 and 4 year old are very excited and want to know all about it so have been looking out for suitable books.

My ds is hyper-practical about it all, pointing out all the new things we will need to buy and is excited as anything (unlike his poor sister) about the bunk beds they will have to move into.

nuttygirl what big decisions you're having to make. FWIW I can totally understand thinking about spending all your savings on an IM, however scary the prospect financially (and however many people you meet). I did consider IM last time but fortunately the NHS midwives turned out OK and I got what I wanted with them.

valz · 12/02/2009 16:27

Hi all,

had my first ante natel scan, im 13+3, all seems to be well which is good, babies measuring as they should however i was a bit dissappointed with the dr. any of my earlier scans i had lovely bubbly midwifes all chatting away and i suppose making me feel welcome. this doc was such a dry arse, absolutely no criac out of her or her two assistants, i could see the babies moving about and i know they measured fine, but i expected her to montior their heart rates to make sure they were ok. there was an awful airy silence in the room and it just wasnt very pleasant, its so apparent now why some people have great experiences in a hospital while others have shite experiences, its all in the staff. i was offered the big scan between 20-24 weeks which i accepted so it is in 11 weeks time, i will be 24 weeks by then. i then have another scan at 28 weeks which im very surprised at as ive read with twins you get monitored more often and had i refused the big 24 week scan i wouldnt be seen again for 15 weeks which seems an awful long time. does anyone know is it just in the last few weeks of pregnancy you are seen more often if having twins? anyhu, i suppose i should be just greatful all seems well with the babies.

hope you are all doing well! got my official edd so i'll amend the list woohoo

Hi Valz,
Nice to see another twin mummy on the thread Im a little behind you at 12 weeks.

The way I understand it is that you only have regular growth scans if the twins are identical (not sure if yours are or not)
I find out tomorrow if ours are identical or not so I will let you know what they tell me.

I am having my big scan at 20 weeks.

Do you have any other children? I have a 2.7yo DS so those first few weeks will certainly be interesting lol

nuttygirl · 12/02/2009 17:09

Congratulations Valz on the twins!

Well looks like I might be going for an IM after all ...turns out that you can pay monthly over a (up to) 24 month period if necessary. I wasn't planning on taking much maternity leave (am self-employed) but the Maternity Allowance would cover the cost so am thinking that's the way forward.

valz · 12/02/2009 17:13

hi ready, nope this is my first pregnancy. i asked the doc today could she tell if they were identical and she told me you couldnt tell for a good while yet so if your goona find out tomorrow obviously my doc hasnt a notion. did you get an nt scan? i would have preferred my big scan at 20 weeks but they give me a date at 24 weeks, i might see if i can get it changed. oh im glad were round the same time we can share stories, although i was told today not to expect to go as far as the 18th aug as twins can be born from 35 weeks on.

fruitshootsandheaves · 12/02/2009 17:17

August babies are great

I have 3 born in August

I agree, fruitshoots, my dd is an august baby

well, thankfully only one more day to hide the ever blooming bump - its half term after that and once i've had my scan, i hope i can share good news at work.

I'm convinced that i can feel someone moving down below, but it's way to early, isnt it? Its def not wind but i really feel like i'm getting a nudge on my right side low down, sort of near my pubic bone. Very odd!
