I've seen this before, but my mother just sent it to me again - it's so cute thought I'd pass it along, although I am slightly nervous as we're almost sure this baby is a boy! (warning - some of these might be slightly American!)

You find out interesting things when you have sons, like...
1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words 'uh oh', it's already too late.

8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36- year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old Boy.

11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12.) Super glue is forever.

13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15.) VCR's do not eject 'PB & J' sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.

19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

20.) The fire department in Austin ! , TX has a 5-minute response time.

21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.

25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid

Lets just say from experience I would definitely agree with No.'s 3, 7, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 19.

Our sandwich was ham & peas pudding though.

GruffaloSoldier · 09/02/2009 18:11

LOL LBOT and Astarte

Astarte · 09/02/2009 18:22

For those of you expecting your first child, you may find this interesting/informative

For those of us with children reading that link will no doubt bring about a mass nodding of heads.

Enjoy!

idreamofbeanie · 09/02/2009 18:43

I'm scared! Actually my brain still hasn't registered that there may be a baby at the end of this. appt with the midwife next week and think I might be shocked when she mentions giving birth -who, me???

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 09/02/2009 18:59

Just got a message from Glask. She had bleeding yesterday and lost some of her show. She has had a real bad sickness bug too and is on bed rest.

OP posts:
GruffaloSoldier · 09/02/2009 21:41

Oh no thats awful, I hope she is feeling better soon. Poor Glask. I hope she is managing to get the rest she needs.

Thinking of you Glask!

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 09/02/2009 22:47

Just got in from my usual Monda evening out and had a quick catch up.

Glask - don't know if you're able to lurk but thinking of you and hoping you've got some RL support so that you can get the rest you need.

My bump is feeling particularly tight this evening. I'm starting to feel v large and uncomfortable. I don't like being so large but I'm sure I'm an ok size for my weeks. I'm seeing MW tomorrow anyway so I expect she'll measure me.

Star - I notice you saw MW today. Hope all went well.

Gruff & GYo - when you get chance I'd be interested to know more about what happened at your first NCT antenatal class.

Right, I should get off to bed!

Hope we all sleep well and that those feeling ill wake up feeling better tomorrow.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 10/02/2009 08:53

MOrning All

I cant believe that Im the first to post this morning. Day 2 of being a lady of leisure and I'm off shopping today and also for lunch so looking fwd to that.
and then MW later so I can find out what position the baby is in... Im sure it keeps turning around!

Ast - hows things at your end (not literally of course!)

LB/ Kay sorry to hear of your ulcers/thrush... both awful.. hope they clear up quickly

Ses- First NCT was really good. Spent an hour or so meeting each other and talking about best and worst bits of pregancy, then covered stages of labour, talked about how the baby comes out of the pelvis. Think we are doing pain relief tonight...

How is everyone else today?

Diege · 10/02/2009 09:26

Morning!
Hope you're ok GLASK - that must be very worrying, but hope you can rest up and get the suppoort that you need. Thinking of you xx
GYO, your day sounds lovely . Do you try and plan every day or are you just taking the days as they come?
ASARTE, hope you're feeling ok today - take it easy!
SES, good luck with the midwife. I think there are days when you wake up and feel huge, but then the next day worry you're too small..I know I do! Sure all is fine
Well my horrible breathlessness/lightheadedness etc seems to have come back. Think there are a few of us now who've had it! Working from home today, and have loads to do (have also got an extension on a-level marking - phew! - though knowing the way my mind works I'll end up slacking off for a few days then needing another one).
Hope everyone is well-ish - looks like it's time for the wagon sick-bay overspill to open for action again!

tinkisluvingbeingamummyagain · 10/02/2009 09:42

morning

lots of poorlys hope u all get better soon
dd2 is back to drinking 2ozs or 3ozs since last night. keeps being sicky on and off.
dont know if best to wind her after and oz or let her drink all 2ozs then wind.
problem is that she guzzles it far to quick drinks 2ozs in 5mins.
think she has had lots of trapped wind in her tummy so using infacol @ the mo. she has just started burping again so hopefully helping as she doesnt often burp.
waiting in for my new mobile due between 8 and 1pm
.
my mum is taking dd1 to swimming @ 11am
and me and dh are off to dd1s nursery for parents talk @ 2pm to see how she is doing.

Diege · 10/02/2009 09:50

Morning TINKS! Could you change Bracken's teat to a slower one? Just thinking it might stop the guzzling? Or alternatively wind after every ounce or so?? Really does bring it all back, tis a stressful time!

GruffaloSoldier · 10/02/2009 10:07

Morning all,

Still having horrific diarrhoea here and have a constatnt headache that just wont go away.

SES - our first NCT class went well. It was an all day session so we covered quite a lot. 1st thing we split into two groups and got to know each other and discussed what we were hoping to get out of the course, and had to note down any questions we wanted answering and any topics we wanted covering.

We then discussed these in depth with the whole group. We did the stages of labour and some activities such as the men went off and had to label and diagram of the pregnant woman and the girls ahad to write down all their pregnancy ailments they had had!

We also covered what to take to hospital where the men were given a bag and a list of problems and had to come up with what they would give to the woman for each problem during transition stage. The girls just had the list and had to decide what they would want if they were experiencing those problems.

We also did about hte first 24 hours of a baby's life and priorities for the first four weeks when you are home to highlight what was important to get done and what was less important.

Sorry tried to keep it concise!

Hi Tink, Diege, Gyo and anyone else lurking!

lastboxoftampons · 10/02/2009 10:28

Hello everyone

Glask Please take care - I hope you are feeling better!

Gruff so sorry your sickness continues

And Kay sorry about the ulcer!

The wagon is not looking too healthy these days!

Ses I know I'm no where near you in weeks, but somedays I feel huge and others I don't and then I start to worry! I think water retention must play a good part in pregnancy!

GYO Sounds like a lovely day planned - glad you're enjoying your ML so far!

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 10/02/2009 10:57

Morning!
Thanks GYo and Gruff for NCT classes info. How did your DHs find them? Mine is v apprehensive and reluctant to go. I think he will and I need to make sure he realizes how important they are!

Hi to everyone else! Am in a store in the middle of a building site at the moment as it's being refitted. Bit chaotic! It looks so much better already though

Sorry not to catch up better but I must go!...

GruffaloSoldier · 10/02/2009 11:32

Hi LBox - how are you doing today?

Ses - mine didnt want to do NCT at all at first but after our friends said how good it was he started to come around. It is good for the men because you dont just sit there and listen but get involved and do practical activities to help them understand. Me and my Dh seemed much more clued up than everyone else (thanks MN ) and were surprised how little people new. There were seven couples at ours and most of the men were quite shy and appehensive, the others were a bit louder and that worked well as they kept conversation going. Me and my DH were the youngest there (we are nearly 26) but got on with everyone just fine. I would just ask him to try it out. My Dh said he did learn stuff he didnt know and I think its a really nice way to prepare for what's coming together! HTH

Astarte · 10/02/2009 11:35

Ooh Kayz sounds nasty, i've had one before and it means you'll not ever be able to have NSAID's. What AB's did the doc put you on for it?

LB I'm wishing a safe and speedy end to your pregnancy babe.

Gruff do take it easy, you have my sympathies.

Yay to lunching, shopping and 'me' time for everyone.

Tink do check Bracken's position when feeding, (slap me if you already know this) she should be sat upright for bottle feeding to lessen the risk of trapped wind.
It sounds as if she has quite a strong suck, so I'd say Diege is right and a slow flow teat is probably in order.
Also it occurred to me last night that you said she often will guzzle, then sleep. If that's the case she may not be fully awake for the feed. Strip her down and change her nappy to fully wake her, then she may take more milk if you're still concerned about the volume she's taking. hth.

Nothing much doing here, pool was emptied and refilled last night and good to go again. Officially due today!

Dh has decided to use a few hours of his A/L to finish at 3.30pm everyday to avoid the traffic (bit like the M25 rush hour up here where he has to go).
He said he couldn't cope thinking he could be stuck in traffic with me in labour, so he's just avoiding it altogether, bless him.

We have also resorted to the answer-machine message to screen some of the calls .

Astarte · 10/02/2009 11:36

Sorry knew I'd forgotten something, love to Glask, Kayz, if she gets in contact. Must be so worrying for her

tinkisluvingbeingamummyagain · 10/02/2009 11:42

cheers for info.
actually changed from slow teats a week or so ago as was falling asleep on bottle making her too tired.

tinkisluvingbeingamummyagain · 10/02/2009 11:42

off to play with my new phone

GruffaloSoldier · 10/02/2009 11:48

Hiya Astarte

Answer machine screening sounds like a great plan!I know its all very well meaning but it must be quite irritating!

One of my friends went quite over due and was text every day by a certain friend asking "Have you had that baby yet?"

That is good about DH too, very proactive
