Afternoon Verso - sorry to hear about your back but if it's any consolation my sides are very achey and tender - not actual contractions but not quite right. Had a bit of a show earlier, but that is probably from having the sweep on Thursday! We could be on our way!!!!

Verso · 09/04/2005 16:35

Hi Merlin. I ended up calling the hospital just now in order to get advice as it seems highly coincidental to have developed backache the day after I'm due. The midwife there listened to my symptoms and decided I am definitely in early labour!!! This could be a lonnnnngggggg evening if so but it's quite exciting too. So glad I phoned. Maybe we're both about to go?!

Merlin · 09/04/2005 16:39

Verso how exciting! Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. Have you tried having a bath - that usually relieves the pain?

motherpeculiar · 09/04/2005 16:44

Hi everyone

just a quickie to report the birth of a (not so little) girl yesterday at 1pm. No name as yet. Born at home in water weighing 9lb 15 oz. Will post birth announcement in next few days with all the details (and a name I hope!)

Congrats Orangina and Rydercup

off to oogle my gorgeous tot again.

HAng in there everyone, it's worth it when it finally happens.

MP X

leander · 09/04/2005 16:44

Congratulations to Orangina and Rydercup.
verso and Merlin I think we will be reading your announcements very soon.Just over a week left for me and have been having quite a bit of backpain too, when I had my ds all my pain was in my back so here is hoping,I am getting quite fed up now and very uncomfortable and cant seem to do anything.

leander · 09/04/2005 16:46

Fantastic news mother Peculiar, what a whopper hope you are all ok and cant wait to hear what you have called her.

Merlin · 09/04/2005 16:46

Congrats Motherpeculiar!!!! Can't wait to hear the details and find out her name. I think a few of us are not far behind now!!!!

Verso · 09/04/2005 16:55

Congratulations, Motherpeculiar!!

Lucy99 · 09/04/2005 18:19

Congratulations to Orangina, Rydercup and Motherpeculiar. What a busy few days!!! 5 days until I'm due so hoping to have an announcement soon but absolutely no signs of anything yet. Probably just as well tbh, my stepdad was taken into hospital last night with an irregular heartbeat and tightness in his chest which gave us all a scare. They have let him out again today and he seems ok so fingers crossed. Can't wait to see who is next to pop! I'm off to buy some pineapple..... x

alux · 09/04/2005 18:31

congratulations mp! I hope you have more than newborn clothes! Waiting for details.

Raindog · 09/04/2005 18:53

Congratulations MP! Great news - please post name and details soon - can't wait to hear! Lovely news!

Roobie · 09/04/2005 19:56

Congrats on your bouncing baby MP - what a chunky monkey!

xoz · 10/04/2005 05:03

Congrats to everyone who's had their babies so far!!! Let hope we have lots more news soon. Nothing is happening here to indicate imminent arrival. Went out playing lawn bowls yesterday (dh's work social thing!) and today my legs and back are killing me. I only bowled about 6 ends before the men gave up in disgust at being thrashed, so I didn't really do all that much but am certainly paying for it today. I was actually hoping it might encourage the baby to come out! Sorry to hear many of you are having trouble sleeping too. I'm not too bad in that area but once I'm awake in the mornings that's it now. DH offered to get up and look after dd's while I had a sleep-in yesterday morning and I refused because I knew I wouldn't sleep anyway... how annoying it is! Hope everyione's taking care of themselves.

Verso · 10/04/2005 06:36

Still here, still with a sore back, still very irregular contractions. Grr. I could be here for DAYS like this! Sheesh. Got upset this am because I felt DH was disappointed there had been no significant progress (yesterday he got all excited and put our hospital stuff in the car etc). Anyway, he has reassured me he's totally fine and relaxed about everything and no pressure etc.

I feel it though, as he's at the end of the Easter holidays and goes back to work tomorrow (he's a teacher) and is stressing a bit about what to do if this turns into 'real' labour...

Aargh! Anyway... sorry to whinge! Hope everyone has a good day!

alux · 10/04/2005 06:37

I'm here Verso! Thinking of you!

alux · 10/04/2005 06:43

Verso: Can't see why he is upset! If proper labour starts in the next 24 hrs, he will have an extended holiday, won't he?

My little insomnia phase has disappeared for the time being. I feel so rested now.

Unfortunately, sitting at the computer aggravates my oedema so I'm now limiting my time

I'll keep making short visits to keep up to date on the action.

Today looks like a beautiful one so I will try to get out and do some gardening again. Nothing strenuous. Mostly pottering about.

orangina · 10/04/2005 07:12

congrats to mp and good luck to all of you still waiting (esp verso by the sounds of it... fingers crossed that it all kicks off properly soon)... will attempt to post details on birth announcement page now..... this time last week i was lying with a gorgeous little girl on my tum, so amazed and so relieved that the whole ordeal was over...! so very very worth it though.....

qsack · 10/04/2005 19:35

hi
congratulations to everyone who's already got bouncing babies and all the best to those who are on their way. having found out that pineapple is good to start off labour, how much are you supposed to eat?

bronniemuldoon · 10/04/2005 20:30

Hi everyone. Sorry not to have kept up with everyone this week but pleased to report that we had a gorgeous baby girl called Madeleine on Tuesday this week. Birth went well (only made it to the hospital with 15 minutes to spare! but will give a full report on the birth announcement thread v. soon). Unfortunately spent the last 4 days in hospital due to possible complications which have luckily resolved themselves so home at last - hooray! Oh almost forgot I got it really wrong - she was smaller than my first - 6lb 6oz - and early (I was SO convinced she was going to be late). Congrats to everyone who've given birth and sending good vibes to all those still waiting. Will try and catch up with you all soon.xxx

Verso · 10/04/2005 21:56

Congratulations, Bronniemuldoon!

No definite progress to report here. Some contractions, but nothing regular enough to call the hospital about. If my back is still like this tomorrow though, I think I'll call them just to get their opinion.

Can't sleep again.........

Congratulations on little Madeleine, Bronnie and fingers crossed that things start happening for you soon, lockets and verso. I really hope when my time comes that it is all over in a short sharp shock rather than all this brewing away and contracting intermittently for days lark!!

DelGirl · 11/04/2005 09:18

Morning all, well, whoever is left.

Congratulations to MotherP, my goodness what a size for a home delivery!

Congratulations to Bronnie and welcome to little Madeleine.

Well, what an uncomfortable night. I feel stretched to the absolute max, I thought my tummy might tear last night. Been having a few really painful braxton hicks, unless they're the real thing, don't know. But a couple of them have lasted at least a minute and I had to really breathe through them. Thought omg, if this is an indication of what it's like I'll be a complete wimp and ask for everything going. Still, I suppose if you know it's happening it may be slightly easier to bear.

Have got my mw coming to see me this morning for a final check before d day on Thursday. Cannot believe I am going to be a mummy by the end of the week, it's quite scary really.

Right, going to look in on the birth annoucenements and then put my feet up, again!

Just a quick update for Merlin. Her DH has rung to say they had a little boy yesterday. Both well but she did end up having a c/s. Will leave her to tell you all about him when she's home in a few days. I will probably get to see them on Thursday when I go in for my induction!!

Congratulations Merlin and to DH and DS. Can't wait to meet your new little man

Great news! Congratulations to Merlin!

I now feel like "the boy who cried wolf", as it looks as though my backache is a false alarm. From 3am-4:30am today I had timeable contractions, about seven minutes apart and lasting around 80 seconds, but they didn't get closer together or stronger and ended up petering out.

Can any of you experienced Mums reassure me that this is in fact perfectly normal for a first-timer?! I have to say I feel like a bit of a lemon at the moment!
