Hi all looks like I'm in early labour! After 41 wk appt yesterday and sweep, started having contractions evry 10 mins this morning. Rang the hosp who checked me out and said looks like this is it but still early days. So I decided to come home - have been told to go back when pain is too much or 5 mins apart. Strawberry, hope things are progressing now for you too.
Right now it's evry 5 mins and can sort of cope (but not speak or breathe!) although it's only just about 1 min long. Had a mad desire to go to the betting shop and do my grand national bets just in case I run out of time. They thought I was insane in there hobbling along like a duck. Feeling strangely calm at this stage when I thought I would be freaking out. Think this must mean it's too early as I am such a wimp I figured I'd be climbing the walls.
Good luck to evryone else on this too

Verso · 06/04/2005 16:25

V exciting, lemonsquash! I'm impressed you managed to get your bets on in the meantime as well. Doesn't sound like the actions of a 'wimp' to me! Best of luck with everything. I hope it all goes smoothly and easily!

Thanks for the lavender suggestion, strawberry. I'll try that tonight as I have some essential oil. Might do the trick if I put some on my pillow maybe. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself... doh!

Alux - I like your generalisation! Thanks for saying that!! Honestly, I took what my friend was saying a bit with a pinch of salt, because I know what she's like, but really. I sometimes don't understand people at all!

Anyway - hope everyone's having a nice day (especially since the weather seems to have finally improved). No signs of developments here as yet... unless having a two-hour nap is a definite sign of impending labour [jk].

Roobie · 06/04/2005 16:29

Looks like you're going to be next then Lemonsquash ...... got everything crossed for you!

alux · 06/04/2005 18:09

Exciting. By now lemonsquash you ought to be in proper labour. This thread is now building my anticipation. Added to discussing birth plan with my lovely midwife yesterday and going to a b/f seminar today.

Good luck lemonsqush - hope all goes well.

motherpeculiar · 06/04/2005 21:28

Oh good luck Lemonsquash - hope to hear good news from you soon.

I'm having a sweep at my 41wk appointment tomorrow too so hoping something similar might happen afterwards. Having some reflexology tomorrow too so surely one or the other will do the trick.
Have been feeling VERY heavy and periody all day anyway so I reckon I am nearly ready to go now.

Funny how, when it gets this close, you start to wonder whether you want to go through with it all afterall... or is that just me?

MP and Lockets - had my reflexology this morning - nothing happening yet! Having never had a contraction with DS1 am wondering how I will tell the difference from a BH - yes I know it will be more painful I suppose!!!!

NannyJo · 06/04/2005 21:39

Sorry to gate crash, jst wanted to say goodluck to all you lucky expectant mums, i'm sssooooo jealous. (ds now 6 months and would do it all again tommorrow if DH would let me)

Merlin if it is any consolation I had plenty of strong contractions with DD1 and still wonder this time around whether I'll recognise the difference. (Think I may have managed to obliterate the memory of that whole experience from my memory a tad TOO sucessfully ) All I can say is I'm pretty sure it'll be obvious. I think a real contraction squeezes from the back too, rather than just on the front like a BH, if that makes any sense. So it is a bit like a belt tightening all around you, and can be fairly painful[understatement emoticon]

Good luck everyone.

Merlin · 06/04/2005 22:00

Lockets - baby seems more active this evening, yesterday it was really sleepy. Think there are a few more BH going on so who knows? Although, just said to Dh I have a horrible feeling that I will still be sat here saying this next week!!!

Verso · 07/04/2005 08:34

Just checking in this morning to see how everyone's doing but I'm too early for any messages to have appeared. Hope everyone's doing ok!

Merlin · 07/04/2005 08:35

Morning all - the excitement is mounting. Had a teeny, tiny show last night, but then nothing else so could be something or nothing! Seeing consultant later so see what he has to say! Hope everyone is doing Ok today.

leander · 07/04/2005 08:39

sounds promising Merlin, good luck xx

Good luck everyone - still feels like ages away for me, am getting more worried everyday though! I'll have to invest in gallons of lavender oil to calm me down by another 3 weeks!

I am also in the not sleeping club - have a glass of wine to see if that helped, just ended up with the worst heart burn ever!

Back to the raspbery leaves, cleary sage (as recommended by MW), pineapples etc. Will have to think about packing my bag shortly too (makes it very real then though!)

alux · 07/04/2005 11:02

Ah LM, I know how you feel. sniff, sniff. Nevermind. I'll keep you company! Have you tried Kalms to help you sleep? It's a natural sleep remedy. There are a couple others as well. Available in most chemists and OTC. I think even in the aisle at Sainsbury's.

qsack · 07/04/2005 13:52

oh man, everyone seems to be 'on the move'. the nearest i've got to that is my MW saying this morning that if his head was any lower then i'd be pushing him out. so what does that mean exactly interms of how long i've got? anyone any ideas? ds1 was 12days over due and my due date is this sat, so i'm not expecting anything soon, but you never know???? good luck to everyone whose on their way. x

fishie · 07/04/2005 15:06

oddly the nearer it gets the further i retreat into denial, and don't feel at all likely to pop, although of course i've nearly 3 weeks to go. oh ghastly thought, wonder how many of us will go into may?

went for a swim earlier, but discovered too late that all the little ladders were broken and roped off - had to persuade them to let me use the least bad one, otherwise i'd still be bobbing around.

Merlin · 07/04/2005 16:01

Hi all - back from consultant where she took me rather by surprise and did a sweep (rather uncomfortable, DH was laughing at me practising my breathing!!). She said my cervix was softening nicely, it has opened a little and she could feel the baby's head!!!!! Hoping things will get going now, shall book some more reflexology for next week if it doesn't come over the weekend. Induction is booked for 19th April, but hopefully wont get that far!!!

Any luck with your sweep MP?

miranda2 · 07/04/2005 16:21

Hi all! Shall read this thread in a minute, just logging on now to say I'm back from my conference in Edinburgh having managed not to give birth there (though had some spectacular BH all yesterday which did get me a little worried!).

mummydreamer · 07/04/2005 17:15

I'm sending you all lots of positive labour vibes and will be watching for the announcements!!!

Merlin · 07/04/2005 20:16

A bit of an update from earlier. Had quite bad tummy pains and had to make a dash for the loo!! Tummy pains seem to be subsiding, just some normal BH going on, but either side of my waist is very tender and aching ...... so ....... just waiting to see what happens later!!!!

ANyone else about with any news? I don't want to be doing this on my own
