Hi Verso and HUGE congrats to all the new mums!!!
I was up with you at 3am this morning, very similar pattern but I had a show which is a good sign isn't it? Called mid wife this morning as the contractions peetered out and I am left with period type pains and she just confirmed it is a sign but it could still be another week? Is this really the case??? Not too much discomfort but another week? As another first-timer I would also like to hear from anyone who has any more idea when we might have some more excitement! I'd love to think we might be with child in the next 2 days really....

motherpeculiar · 11/04/2005 12:55

congrats Merlin and Bronnie, and anyone I've forgotten in teh excitement - love the name Madeleine (may have to snatch it if we don't agree soon )

Verso - just wanted to reassure you that that kind of thing is perfectly normal, but if it's any consolation it may well mean that things are happening behind the scenes and that actual labour will be more efficient (ie shorter) as some of the work will have been done. I hope this is the case (of course it may not be, but that's childbirth for ya). Try not to worry about it. This time around I actually failed to time contractions at all as my brain kept refusing to do it, I got so hung up on it last time around I'm sure it kept me stopping and starting for a week!

Good luck to everyone still waiting, and lots of positive vibes to those in that horrible in-betweeny stage (is this it? isn't it?...)

birth announcement soon, I promise, just need that name

off back down to the garden to air the child (first venture out of doors for her, big day here!)

qsack · 11/04/2005 16:00

Hi MoseGirl - didn't hapeen to me but a friend of mine recently had period pains for about a week before she finally went into labour. when it did happen it was all pretty quick, so lets hope it's the same for you.

Verso - same as what MP said, two friends recently had regular contractions that petered out and gave birth about a week later. lets hope it's not so long for you....

motherpeculiar · 11/04/2005 17:03

mosegirl - sorry, didn't see your message earlier but would echo what qsack said. If it is any consolation I do think the period type pains, especially if they are quite strong, mean things will be swifter when they happen. Hope it is soon though, for both you and Verso and anyone else at that frustrating stage

REALLY, REALLY, REALLY do try to relax and rest - I know it is hard to do but having just come through it I would really say try to conserve your energy for the labour and try to stop paying attention to the niggles as that is so energy draining. You'll be glad of every scrap of energy when things do kick off.

bunny2 · 11/04/2005 19:20

fab news Merlin cant wait to meet your gorgeous little boy!

Delgirl - I am still waiting eagerly for your announcement!

Verso · 11/04/2005 19:43

Thanks for your words of wisdom and reassurance, everyone. I've just been napping in fact (then was woken up by quite a 'pointy' contraction) so I'm getting there. I found a good thread on this site in fact about lengthy early labour and it really reassured me (and reminded me of all the reasons why I want to stay at home as long as possible).

I REALLY hope you're right and this means the next part will be quite short! I think the most frustrating thing at the moment is that I have a lovely packet of Feminax in the cupboard (imagine me saying "mmmm, codeine" in a Homer Simpson voice at this point) but I have to take poxy paracetamol. Grrrrr!

Might be back later...

Seabird · 11/04/2005 20:57

Wow just had a quick scan down the thread and am delighted to see so many babies have arrived! (And several home births too - fantastic.) MotherP wow what a whopper! Well done you

Good luck everyone else! (Starshaker really hope things happen soon for you in particular, you sound like you've been having such a hard time lately.)

006 - so very sorry to hear about your mum. Hope you're getting lots of support and hanging in there. xxx

starshaker · 12/04/2005 05:01

doesnt look like much happening still in pain but go an appointment at the hosp todayso will just need to see what happens there. got 1 less thing to worry about thought as am getting rid of spanky new car sob and have just bought a second hand family car that will mean dp doesnt have to sit on the roof when bumps finally arrives.

will keep you all updated but it was mentioned that they might take me into hosp tomorrow but i dont see it happening as im not due till friday

What an efficient birth, lockets .... I am hoping for something along the same lines next Monday as dd was born on her due date! Congratulations on little Saskia.

Well done to Merlin too....look forward to hearing all about him when you are home.

miranda2 · 12/04/2005 09:07

I'm with mose and verso in having a show yesterday afternoon and up 3-4 this morning with contractions, but then all petered out to nothing, so feeling pretty fed up now! Its my second, but ds1 was induced two weeks over so I've no idea what going into labour naturally feels like. Just hope you're all rihgt and it means the actual labour will be better/quicker/more efficient!

leggymamba · 12/04/2005 09:32

My, feel like I've missed loads. Congratulations everyone (would put names but pg brain stikes again and I can't remember everyone!)

Hopefully those of you that were having rumblings have had more happen. If not take it as a good sign that something's happening.

With nearly 3 weeks still left the most I'm getting is lots of hiccups (can't remember dd having them this often) - they are strong enough to wake me up!

Raindog · 12/04/2005 10:13

Congratluations Lockets, Merlin and Bronniemuldoon! Wonderful news. Keep all these positive vibes coming for us end-of-Aprilers! xx

leander · 12/04/2005 10:26

Congratulations to Bronniemuldoon,Merlin and Lockets,my its been a busy weekend.Nothinh happening here feel like i will never be ready, I was 2days late with ds and thought you always go earlier with no 2 but we will have to wait and see.I feel ok except for a thumping in my head,no pain just a thump thump thump, do you think it may be high blood pressure? I've got my next appointment on thurs with midwife so hopefully things will be a bit clearer then.Is it true that the head doesnt engage until in labour with your 2nd?

lemonsquash · 12/04/2005 12:47

Baby Rose is here! After a second sweep on Weds morning, and then the best sleep for MONTHS on Weds night, woke on Thurs with contractions every 5 mins, not too painful and so delayed ringing the hosp to ask (didn't want another internal!) if I should go in till 11am. Went in got montiored and at 1pm they said go to delivery suite right now you are 5cm! I think I was in denial as I didn't even want dp to pack my hosp bag Got straight on the gas & air (lovely) and given how terrified I have been of labour I went into a really calm mode until about 10pm when decided enough was enough and had epidural. All a bit of a blur after that until Rose was born at 1:05am on Friday 8th! She weighs 7lb and is v peaceful and contented so far.
Have to say to everyone it is soo worth it but def try and sleep as much as poss before. I feel a bit like I have been run over physically but mentally on top of the world. Evry day gets better though. Congrats to all other new mums and my huge best wishes and lucky labour vibes to everyone else waiting to pop. Off to post on birth announcements now.

mummydreamer · 12/04/2005 12:48

Congratulations and well done to Motherpeculiar (how big?), Lockets, Merlin and Bronniemuldoon and welcome to all these wonderful babies!

Seth is settling into life in our madhouse and whilst i am still at the stage of gazing adoringly at him, it is starting to feel like I can't imagine life without him! (Although when he was up until 3am on Moday eve and dd rose at 6.50am, I did question my sanity!!!)

Hope everyone awaiting their arrivals is doing ok - not long to go now!

Verso · 12/04/2005 13:02

Congratulations, lockets and lemonsquash! I am so envious of you both! Fantastic news of your new arrivals .

I'm a bit grumpy today as I had contractions from 8pm last night. The midwife at the hospital said to come in if they got to 4 mins apart, lasting 60 seconds each, and they did - only 80 secs each, so we went in at 3am. They confirmed that I am in labour but it turned out I was only 2cm dilated

They said I could choose to stay in or to go home, and given that the hospital isn't the nicest of places and I was sooooo early on, I decided to come back. Definitely the right decision, but I feel very disheartened. Still having sporadic contractions, but nowhere near as intense or regular, didn't get hardly any sleep, but taking paracetamol and having baths etc... will put my TENs back on again if they start getting regular again (which I hope they will!)

I suppose I just need to be patient, but I feel awful that DH took the day off today because of being up in the wee small hours with me and yet there's been no progress. I feel like I'm useless at this labour milarkey.

Sorry - feeling a bit gloomy (can you tell?!)

bronniemuldoon · 12/04/2005 13:12

Big congratulations to Merlin and lemonsquash. Great news.

And MP... quite happy for you to steal the name .

Feeling slightly more sane than last week and had a fairly good nights sleep last night only having to wake for feeds at 12:00 and 4:00 but am touching lots of wood as it's too early to think I have a little angel on my hands .

Mosegirl and Verso I'm sure these early grumblings are a good sign. I bet it doesn't feel like it but it may mean that you're primed and ready to go when the time comes! Sending positive vibes your way.

bronniemuldoon · 12/04/2005 13:15

Verso our posts crossed! Really sorry you're feeling fed up - don't blame you. Still, you're right it's SO much better to be at home rather than in hospital hanging around. At least you know you're on your way although that's probably not much consolation at the moment. Thinking of you.

starshaker · 12/04/2005 14:26

thats me back from the hospital from my check up thingy was told babys head is right down so fingers crossed things might happen either way ive to go back in next week and doc will decide what to do.

alux · 12/04/2005 19:41

Congratulations to everyone who have delivered since Sunday. Good luck to all who are still rehearsing labour. With my due date 12 days aways, well, ssssiiiiggghhhh! Still dreaming on. I am off for a bath and bed as I took someone to Heathrow today for a 7:30am flight from the NorthEast.

leander · 13/04/2005 09:34

Morning everyone hope we are all feeling ok.Feeling really tired today and have had loads of period type pains and a prodding really low down.Does it hurt when your waters break? With ds they broke my waters and it was just a trickle and didnt hurt .

starshaker · 13/04/2005 09:54

dont know if it hurts but i wouldnt think so but the prodding down there now i can say yeah that really hurts im getting it a lot at the mo and find the more i move the more she does it my sympathies

fishie · 13/04/2005 15:39

congratulations to new arrivals. hopefully it is quiet here because several of you are very busy elsewhere. anyway, i'm gripped by everyone's updates.

mine is the right way up but not engaged - wish it would, so breathless. almost finished decorating so nearly ready. then just knitting and waiting.......

miranda2 · 13/04/2005 18:44

Hey ho, still nothing happening. I know I've got 2 weeks to go, but I was getting all excited that things were moving a couple of days ago, so very frustrated now. Resorted to a dose of laxative at lunchtime, but only dared take half a dose and it doesn't seem to have had any effect at all! However, enjoying a nice relax as a lovely lovely mum from ds's nursery offered to take him home with her dd tonight and is only bringing him home at 7, so I've been let off that whole teatime shift, bless her (and she's said she'll do the same tomorrow!!!).
