I always take my glasses off for labour too - it makes it much easier to detach I think! Though I did manage to see that DS2 was an S, I'm not too short sighted. Everything just looks romantic and fuzzy without my glasses

abbymeg · 12/12/2008 16:08

I hope it goes okay on Monday Zoe. They can't be that worried if you can wait until then for checks. Get plenty of rest, take good care of yourself and ring up if you have even the slightest concern over the weekend.

waitinggirl · 12/12/2008 16:09

zj - i'm so sorry, that must be so worrying for you. i have no knowledge of any of this, but it sounds like if the baby is moving, has good heartbeat, then it seems like really good news. they are checking you out - and you are in very good hands, i am sure. poor you - be kind to yourself, and try to relax as much as possible this weekend (easier said than done, i know). try to go for some lovely wintery walks and let nature do its wonder in calming and reassuring you. good luck. x

Indith · 12/12/2008 16:12

ZJ try not to worry too much, especially if all else is normal. It is perfectly possible, indeed normal for MWs to measure you a bit differently or for your measurements to not have changed as poking you and holding a tape measure to your bump is not an exact science. Especially at this stage when the baby is moving down it can make it seem as though you've not grown. I remember with ds have several appointments on the trot when I measured a week behind, then lost a week then gained 3 or 4 all at once!

abby glad you are more comfortable.

I'm just not going to talk to bisou any more. He sewing skills make me far too

abbymeg · 12/12/2008 16:13

JB Just a weekend... counting down... hopefully it will be a peaceful couple of days with plenty of sleep, although I don't know how I will switch my brain off for long enough to make that happen! I also successfully left my hospital bag in my living room after the return from hospital yesterday. I unzipped it to get my slippers out, and forgot to zip it back up. My small, fuzzily Charlie cat has managed a stealth sleep in there (I have no idea how, as there's no space) meaning all my post-baby clothes have a nice coat of cat hair now. Will be doing some washing this weekend then!

Sorry cross-posted with you zoe. As others have said these measurements are very unreliable and often can be way out. It seems to depend on who is doing the measuring half the time. waitinggirl's suggestion of relaxing wintry walks sounds just the ticket.

abby Glad things have settled down pain wise, I'm hoping for lots of sleep too . My two cats are a nightmare for climbing into my stuff and covering it in hair. I demonstrated putting the pram up the other day for my mum and within about 3 seconds one of them had jumped in and curled up.

Veggiemummy · 12/12/2008 16:49

we have put a cover over the cot so our cat won't climb in.

Abbey that nail in your back sounds a bit unnecessary.

ZJ sorry to hear of your worries as others have said it is prob all fine but big hugs to you.

Hooray Feb thanks for letting us know congrats.

Has anyone heard from Pixstix?

zoejeanne · 12/12/2008 16:57

And I knew once I?d read through the posts there would be good news to make me again ? congratulations Hiccy, kmp and hurrah for you all!

Good luck to Kayz, hope you?re progressing well, and are nice and comfortable at home

PD ? your DS?s entrances into a room with a loud ?fuck off? have also made me chuckle ? simple things ?

Beans ? thanks for the birth story, all of them are giving me good ideas on what to expect, and at least I know if I change my mind about pain relief I won?t be the first to dither, and probably won?t be the last either. Well done you for delivering a lovely daughter.

And thank you all so much for the kind thoughts and reassuring words, I really am in tears now! The growth was just based on measurements, and a good old feel by the midwife (have seen the same one twice in a row and she remembered that I/baby hadn?t grown last time, so hopefully did the same checks this time). I haven?t had any scans since 20 weeks, they didn?t say how they?d be checking on Monday, but possibly a scan then. I didn?t realise that measurements could be so inaccurate, so thanks for letting me know that. And WG, I like your advice of wintery walks ? that always cheers me up, so hopefully the weather will oblige and be crisp and cold and clear and put me in a good frame of mind. Thank you all again and [grateful emoticon]

Veggiemummy · 12/12/2008 19:57

wow no wonder Kayz wanted that thing out. How great he came before he dad went home. Do we know if she stayed at home?

OP posts:
artichokes · 12/12/2008 20:01

Wow. If she birthed that big a baby at home then it means she did it with gas and air only!

Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 20:10

Wow! That's a massive leap from her DS1! And you remember the M/W told her he would be a "bit bigger" - not 3 whole pounds though! They missed that. Well done Kayz!!!

Zoe really hope all fine on Monday and that you still can enjoy this weekend.

Abby hope you too can relax before Monday and that you don't have to do too much de-cat hairing!

Well Woolies wasn't too packed. My Dc each bought a little something and as we were leaving DD said "bye bye Woolworths I wish I were bigger so I wouold reach round and give you a hug" She then kissed the door. Strange but true.

Veggiemummy · 12/12/2008 20:21

oh Turnip that is so cute.

ZJ they didn't pick up how big Kayz bubby was gonna be so good chance they are wrong about you.

Verso · 12/12/2008 20:23

I'm not sure who was asking about breastfeeding and sore/cracked nipples etc? I think there are a few of us on here who have been having ups and downs. Just wanted to say that I think the soreness in the first week or so is really common. It's definitely worth getting the latch checked if the soreness is really bad (scabs/bleeding etc) but I actually think it's not that unusual (cue bad Tom Jones impression here).

My nipples (TMI?) are still sore occasionally - and last night were very much so as DD2 had a four-hour cluster feeding marathon in the middle of the night. Aaargh. However she's put on another 2oz and so we've been discharged . However no bleeding...

First day sans DH today. I started the day ok with DD2 fast asleep in moses basket so I had a shower. Ooh the sense of achievement! Then it went a bit pear-shaped when I realised I couldn't get myself breakfast whilst feeding. Doh! Mum came over to help me get up to the clinic - but then suggested I get the bus with the pram - and then suggested we get a taxi... which we did but couldn't get one back again. V stressful until the midwife who'd seen us earlier came out of the clinic and offered us a lift back down the road!

On a different note, does anyone else have a windy DC? DD2 is fine during the day but by bedtime is usually farting/burping/hiccuping for England - which wouldn't be a problem except it prevents her settling well in the moses basket. Any tips? (I have some Infacol but tasted it myself and it's foul... does anyone think it actually works?!)

Verso · 12/12/2008 20:24

P.S. My at the bus suggestion makes me look really lazy, but I'm still only 2 weeks post partum and am not meant to be lifting anything heavier than the baby!

Kimberly1979 · 12/12/2008 20:28

turnip thanks for the tip on Neals Yard. Went in today and picked up a few oils and made my own bath salts! They smell great! Your DD is too cute... wanting to give woolies a big hug.

Kayz Way to go!! 10lb 5 oz...WOW! Congrats on the baby boy! Hope you were able to have the home birth you wanted.

Hope everyone is doing well today!

Indith · 12/12/2008 20:37

Farking hell Kayz you are a one impressive woman! Oh yes, erm..congratulations

Verso in no way do you sound lazy! No idea on the infacol. Ds was pretty windy but just brought up a hell of a lot of milk all the time. I used a wrap sling with him as he was much happier upright and he slept in that, apart from at night when he slept in my armpit

JamInMyWellies · 12/12/2008 20:42

congrats Kayz.

jumpjockey · 12/12/2008 20:43

hello all! wow, lots more babies, how fantastic! Congrats to hiccy, feb, kmp, kayz, rosmerta, babbington and beans! what a fabulous haul of babies

me me me alert - just need to get this out. I've been feeling intermittently very down and weepy over the last few day simply because i have no idea how to help dd settle, and have been having trouble with night feeds - she's still doing the grabby hands thing and while i was trying to part swaddle her to get them out of the way last night i was a bit rough with her because i was so tired - had been awake for about 3 hours trying to settle her from previous feed. it's not her fault at all and i feel so guilty, poor little darling. also have just been having a nap with her and dh (trying to grab a moment while she slept!) and is it wring of me to be a bit cross that he's still asleep while i've been feeding her since 8? he sleeps through most of the night (and snores at me during night feeds to rub it in of course not he can't help it and i shouldn't be angry with him for being able to sleep!) and is meant to be making us a special tea (rather than defrosting our huge stash of casseroles). so again i feel bad about waking him up as he obviously needs to sleep but at the same time i can't get anything done while i'm feeding so we won't have tea until goodness knows when.

it's probably just tiredness and not really knowing what we're doing. i really want to do the best i possibly can for dd but i don't know how. is this just what it's like with a newborn?! i've hardly been able to eat enough to meet my own needs let alone to guarantee her getting good food.

oh well while i'm having a catharsis, i'm also scared of leaving her with him alone. he has type 1 diabetes and since she was born has had 2 really quite bad hypos because all our routines are screwed up - one of them on day 3 when i had to get a friend over to hold dd while i administered sugary water to bring him back from being virtually unconscious. they can come on him without him being aware of it and they can make him agressive and not know what's going on around him. so i'm scared tyat he might have one while he's looking after dd and not only is it awful for him but now there's her to think about as well.

well i feel a bit better for getting that down. she's just finished her feed and is looking angelic which makes me feel all the worse for getting cross with her. i love her so much it hurts.

reban · 12/12/2008 20:50

wow well done kayz hope everything went well and looking forward to the birth story.

Gettign very jealous of all you ladies who have already popped!

ZJ i wanted to say that fundal measurements are really unrealiable, especially if baby has dropped since the last measurement. Last time i went to the midwife she measured i had only grown 1cm in 4 weeks, but then a week later according to the doctor i had grown 3cm! Believe me i know you are going to worry all weekend .. i spent weeks worrying early on with all the growth concerns we had ... but try not to get too stressed and relax xxx
i was right last night the indian takeaway had me up all night with heartburn as opposed to labour, have managed to get along all day but think i am heading for bed now v.v.v. tired.
