good luck kayz - thinking of you

JamInMyWellies · 12/12/2008 12:29

How exciting Kayz remember to breath and try to stay calm.

Beans well done on the natural birth but LOL at you shouting for epidural.

Am very very at all you early birds and on date bubas arriving. I am now 40+3 absoloutley no sign my end not even a tiny show or anything. Have booked in for some accupuncture tom before yoga to see if that will do thte trick. I also made a very spicy stuffed butternut squash for tea last night and nada.

PD good luck at the BF clinic TT is so difficult to diagnose although from what you are saying about your poor traumatic nips sounds very similair to how it felt feeding DS, could you express and cup feed for a couple of feeds to give your boobs a rest?

Have the builders here today they really are a bunch of numptys they are having to fix a tube from my ensuite bathroom in the ceiling as they didnt fit it correctly and unfortuantly all the water has been drawn up into my attic and I have condensation running down the inside of the attic all my suitcases are covered in mildew. Bearing in mind they know I am vv preg have a toddler and a puppy they keep going out and leaving the front door wide open and when I asked them to close it behind them they looked at me like I had 2 heads. I beg of you!

Indith · 12/12/2008 12:35

How exciting!

And Disenchanted sounds like things are progressing!

Congrats to kmp and hiccy.

All these babies!

simmo14 · 12/12/2008 12:42

Congratulations Bablington, Rosmerta, Hiccy and Kmp1 on your rcent arrivals.

Good luck to kays and Disenchanted.
I think I hadf a show last night. I say think as it was very dard and I already had been up 4 times to the loo so did not want to put the light on again!
I can't believe I wil be thsi early still only 37 + 6 today, although my ds was born on a full moon!

I have all my Mum (and husband) dont like to acknowlege him as step father or anything like that, and it annoys me when he refers to DS as Grandson!!! and my nan and Grandad so I will not be on here checking as much til they leave on Sunday. Good luck to all those about to have babies, and to all those having sleepless nights and sore nipples that have had them all ready.

Any news from Bisou recently- noticed we have not had a list update on this new thread. I would just ruin it so will not risk it.
Have a good weekend and full moon!

Bisou · 12/12/2008 13:04

Wow - GO Kayz! Loving all this updating whilst you're (hopefully) in labour, it makes great MN reading (I won't want to go to bed at this rate!)

arti well done with the jalfreezi effort - I think I'm going to try mine as a lunch rather than dinner if I get to the stage where I'm desperate enough to put myself to the chilli test, so that I can avoid the night heartburn (it probably won't stop the daytime discomfort from it though). Regards the Selfridges trip - I was secretly hoping your waters would break there & they'd give you a £100 gift voucher or summink. If I was in London, that's definitely where I'd be hanging out (or perhaps Harrods? Or a fancy jewellery store? )

LadyT I must say again that I think it's great having an unusual name, and as long as you & DP love it then that's all that matters. Having a unique name also makes it easier for people to find you - I've had old school friends & colleagues track me down most easily on Facebook and my FIL (newspaper obsessed) has no trouble keeping tabs on any reviews online for my work. So it definitely has its advantages. And BTW thank you for the lovely comments - I am in envy of your incredibly witty writing style that keeps us all in stiches

katie I'm so glad about the all clear on GD, YAY! Of course I had to celebrate on your behalf too by going online tonight and finding G&B's chocolate... and ordering 15 bars of it (no joke!!) We can actually get it in the supermarkets here, but only in a couple of flavours, so I've ordered multiples of all my favs now and can't wait till they arrive in a couple of days! woo.

OrangeCrush I'm glad we've got your stats, I'll stick you on our due list, although you won't be there for long hopefully! Thinking baby birthing vibes for you

Oli hooray for CP immunity! HB here you come...

abbymeg I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. Seems so unfair to have to delay the CS till the 'appointed time' if you're in pain, I'd try to get a second opinion today if you're still feeling so uncomfortable. xx

kayz if you're still reading, I laughed so hard at your dream where we all have wheels for feet. How cool would that be? I think DH (who is a big comic nerd) is secretly hoping babybisou will have some sort of secret power. It's already a running joke between us that we're going to call him Optimus as it goes so well with his surname (he loves Transformers...)

Jam glad your DP sorted out the PILs, who should be renamed PITAs' really - what were they thinking? At least it's all been cleared up now though, rather than finding out on the day Hope the accupuncture session goes well tomorrow, I've heard it can be really effective and am thinking about having some done myself.

IceCube my mum is a reflexologist, unfortunately though she's not in the same city as me at the moment or I'd be using her services. I remember when she was training years ago, she would practice on me, and one time I really needed to pee and when I told her she said "that's because I'm pressing on your bladder pressure point"! So it may just move things along for you, you never know.

zoejeanne was the oven glass shattering your fault? As big appliances like that have a 'reasonable life' expectancy under statutory rights law (sale of goods act 1979) and so even if it's faulty after the manufacturers warranty has expired then you will still have course for compensation (repair or like for like replacement), assuming that it was a fault with the appliance rather than something caused by an accident (I don't know in what circumstances it broke?) Might be worth looking into to save yourself the cost of a repair if it's not lasted a reasonable amount of time. HTH.

Turnip at those nasty biddies in the carpark! I would have been tempted to 'accidentally' dirty up their car with some mud or something in revenge (well, I'd at least think about doing it!) How blimmin rude! Don't worry - karma will get them for their wicked selfish ways...

Disenchanted I'm sorry you've been suffering too - and I know that someone said on your other thread that it was better not to do an internal for risk of putting further germs up there - but surely they use sterile gloves?! I would have thought it was more of a risk not to know what's going on for certain regards cervix/dialation etc. Anyway sounds like you may be getting some baby action now, so hope the show means you're on your way! (ps: I think it would be cool to be able to celebrate two DC's birthdays on the same day - you can have a whopper of a party every year and kill two birds with one stone IYKWIM )

Congratulations to rosmerta kmp traceface babblington and hiccy with your new arrivals, and thanks for the birth stories rosmerta & beans! Gosh they're all such different births aren't they? Same lovely outcome every time with a gorgeous new baby though, which is the most wonderful thing

Effie loved reading your birth plan, I thought it was great. I've been told I can have a 'butterfly injection' rather than a drip for the GBS though, could you ask about this? It would mean they could give it to you much faster (in a matter of minutes I've been told) and this would mean you wouldn't have to be hooked up to a drip while trying to birth actively? They've written "IV AB's via x scalpvein please" on my notes if that of any help.

And in my news, yesterday I went to meet with some lovely ladies in the "Sydney Cloth" group. They all use cloth nappies, and have something called the 'cloth nappy advocacy kit' which is a big suitcase full of all the different brands of nappies so that potential cloth users can have a look at them IRL. I took DH along, and it was SO interesting! I didn't realise there were so many different kinds of fitted nappies - all different shapes, materials, fastening methods etc. But it was really useful to see them and get an idea of the different systems. We're actually starting with bamboo prefolds (a smaller version of a normal cloth folding nappy, but bamboo is more absorbant and soft than cotton) and then we'll get some fitted ones when babybisou is a bit older and I know what shape he is. I might even be naughty and take apart a commercial fitted nappy that fits him well and replicate them myself to save some cash. I want to make some custom ones anyway as a treat for DH - I can make them with superhero fabrics as he's a big comic nerd and would find it really cute! I also sucummbed and bought this fitted nappy today for showing off the babybisou bum when he arrives (hope the link still works)

Hi all had MW over this morning for 39 week check all good he is practically fully engaged now and we are all ready to go just have to wait for him to be ready. She has made another appointment for next weds but she is assuming she will be back over here before then.

Go Kayz so exciting I guess we won't be full moon birth buddies. I hope you are done by tomorrows game.

Great birth story Beans and you aren't bloody lucky you just did bloody brilliantly well done. Also well done to your DH he did well after all. Did your mum come too or was it just DH.

Jam that spicy stuffed squash sounds yum, is it vegetarian or can be made veggie. Can you send me the recipe? Also your builders are morons, do they think that a dog and a toddler might see and open door and go oh door open better close it rather than run straight out of it!

DH and DS have gone for a swim so quite enjoying some peace and quiet.

Bisou you always pop up when someone mentions you. I love your superheroes nappy idea. Can you make the wraps too, would be good to have a few of those in superhero patterns. I don't know if you are doing this anyway but make sure the inner part of the nappy is patterned esp busy or darker patterns as then it covers up the stains. You will have lots of lovely sunshine to bleach out the stains but the pattern inside hide it anyway.

JamInMyWellies · 12/12/2008 13:52

Veggie

Spicy Stuffed Butternut Squash.

1 small handful of porcini mushrooms.

1 butternut squash, halved and seeds removed.

olive oil

1 red onion finely chopped

1 clove of garlic finely chopped

1 tsp coriander seeds pounded

A pinch or two of dried chillies to taste

2 sprigs of fresh rosemary leaves picked and finely chopped

5 sun dried tomatoes chopped

Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

100g basmati rice

1/2 handful of pinenuts lightly roasted.

First of all soak your porcini for 5 mins in 140ml of boiling water.

Pre-heat the oven to 230 degree c.

Using a tsp, score and scoop out some extra flesh from the length of the squash.

Finely chop this flesh with the squash seeds and add to a frying pan with 4 lugs of olive oil, the onion, garlic, coriander seeds, chilli, rosemary and sun dried tomatoes. Fry for 4mins until softened. Add the porcini and half their soaking water. Cook for a further 2mins before seasoning. Stir in your pinenuts.

Pack the mixture tightly into the 2 halves of squash and then press them together. Rub the skin of the squash with a little olive oil, wrap in tin foil, and bake in the pre-heated oven for about 1 1/4hr.

Ta da and enjoy! Add extra chillis for super spice, I had ran out of basmati so used reg and it was fine.

Thanks for the advice veggie. I've already got some PUL covers to use with the prefolds, and have also bought this lovely quality fleece one for nights (couldn't resist!) I also bought a big roll of navy polar fleece from spotlight the other day on the bargain table to make some liners (and possibly extra covers) from at some stage. I think I'm a bit deluded as to when I'll get the time for it all though!

These are some of the comic type fabrics I've found thus far - will probably have to get them from overseas but it will be worth it to make it more fun for DH I reckon, as he'll be the one doing most of the changes/washes when I go back to work; spiderman fabric transformers fabric superman fabric

Oh and Effie here's a website that talks about the AB's given as an injection rather than drip: Group B Strep Options

Jam that recipe sounds yummo!

kmp1 · 12/12/2008 14:18

Hi All,
still have only skimmed over as there are so many posts since was in and out of hospital!
Thanks for asking ladyT yes I was absolutely terrified about the epidural as I was informed the day before that I would too be having a combined spinal/epidural as well to give me some pain releif following. Anyway, I couldn't praise the theatre staff enough, they were absolutely fantastic given my needle issues etc!
They gave my DH the Ametop to put on prior to both(however don't think it really did much!) Looking back, possibly the canula for the IV was the worst part to be honest, but the theatre staff were so wonderful doing the epidural and talked me through the whole thing, I can't thank them enough. Apparently I had good spacings for the epidural, so it was really quick and they gave me a nice dose of local first and the whole thing was not more than 5 mins which was nice. So no passing out!! They had put music of my choice on, and started the CS before I even noticed, and then asked me if I wanted to see him being born which I did and he was out in a second with a massive set of lungs!! They put him straight on me, while I was sewn up, and then eventually took him off to be weighed etc and given the tests and Vit K.
Only a very small issue with a bit of a blood clot passing later meant I had to be put on an extra drip back on the obs ward for 4 hours before I could see anyone. They topped up my epidural once and then took it out after about 7 hours before I went on the general ward, and had my own room which was nice. I was switched to just paracetemol and codine plus a sepository? (sp) after that. I was desperate to get home the next morning so DH had to pull a few strings, however got signed over to his care, and discharged the by the next afternoon (although packed and ready to go that morning!) They wanted to do another couple of tests due to that initial blood loss but after that he was checked out we were free to go! They wouldn't let me take codine home, but the Ibuprofen and Paracetemol have been ok so far but it really gets sore if I have been in one position and try to move too quickly so must remember that! Ben has been an angel and is rather low maintanance up until last night when I think he was settling into being home for the first night. BF going OK but there was colostrum and milk still not it but now colostrum seems to have stopped?? Not really sure but midwife is coming back tomorrow to check on me again.
Anyway, all is really great, and looking forward to it all to come! Congrats to those who have also had their babies! I will email a photo on the group email list! x

artichokes · 12/12/2008 14:52

Congratulations Kmp it sounds like a really positive c-section. Sorry not to cross paths in QCH. At this rate I will never be going in.

Bisou · 12/12/2008 14:55

I wonder how kayz is going?

I suppose I'd better get to bed. My curfew is 2am, otherwise I get in trouble from DH... I seem to still live on UK time

Night y'all!

Veggiemummy · 12/12/2008 15:18

nighty night lights Bisou.

Kmp your birth story is great, esp as they were so good with needle stuff well done with all that I know it was hard for you. Great they put him straight to your chest this is partly why he is so calm and it really helps with the hormones you need to establish BF. Well done on that front too.

OP posts:
Turniphead1 · 12/12/2008 15:23

What a lovely birth story KMP - well done you! Ben sounds just lovely! Take care.

I am taking the DC to say "goodbye" to "Willworths" its their favourite shop bless em and they are devastated its closing. Think though there may be nothing left inside after yesterday's marauding crowds...

Bisou love the little nappy wrap you linked! Fab. You are so clever with your sewing machine. I feel sad that so few of us (me inc) have these skills anymore.

Wonder if Kayz is holding her baby yet???

OrangeCrush · 12/12/2008 15:48

OMG I've eaten way too much! If I keep filling my stomach will it squash the baby enough to make him pop out?

Was lovely seeing my workmate - feel so sorry for him being on his own in the office for 9 months while I play babies. I'm sure he is just relieved to not have me rabbiting on all day though - he might even get some work done now

OrangeCrush · 12/12/2008 15:56

Bisou amazed that you are making your own nappies! I thought I was being clever making nice comfy towel liners for my travel change mat because I thought the plastic looked a bit cold for babyOrange's cute little bottom.

zoejeanne · 12/12/2008 16:02

Hi everyone, apologies as this is a me post. I've just got back from my 38 wk check with the midwife and babyZJ hasn't grown now for 4 weeks so I've got to go to the hospital on Monday for further checks. I'm really worried, sad and in need of a big hug. DH was great and pointed out that everything else is fine (movements, heartbeat and so on) so I should relax and be glad they are double checking, but I just want to cry - I've been so lucky throughout this pregnancy and this is the first problem I've had at all (and is minor compared to some of the other things that some of you have had to face so far), but it's just so scary. I started decorating the Xmas tree before I went out, but I'm not feeling jolly enough now to finish it off.

Right [pulling myself together emoticon], I'm going to have a read through todays posts and hope for some lovely new babies to cheer me up. x

abbymeg · 12/12/2008 16:04

Pains stopped, which I suppose is better than sitting here for 3 days enduring them, but I was secretly hoping for a show and early c-section.

Thanks for the story and congratulations to KMP - I'm starting to get quite nervous now, especially about the spinal/epidural. This was not helped at the pre-op when I expressed concern over the shape of my back, so he had a look for me and jabbed his nail into my spine. I nearly hit the ceiling! It does not bode well for Monday when the needles come out! It's good to hear positive, reassuring c-section tales.

I need to catch up as we've been without a phone or broadband all day - I've been getting MN withdrawal.

I hope everyone's been having a lovely, restful day .

JollyBear · 12/12/2008 16:05

Hello all,

kayz How exciting for things to get moving on your due date. Good luck!

KMP Congrats on the birth of Benjamin

PD Your DS sounds very cute!

Beans I loved your birth story. As a fellow glasses wearer I LOL at you mistaking your little girl for a boy at first. You sound as short sighted as me!

bisou Hats off to you for all your sewing. My mum is excellent with a sewing machine which means I rely on her to make me cushions, curtains etc. I really must learn to do it myself ! I've knitted the baby a small hat and that is as far as I've got!

zj poor you - when you say the baby hasn't grown for 4 weeks - are you being scanned or do you just mean your bump hasn't grown? If it's just the bump then try not to worry too much - fundus measurements are notoriously unreliable. I'd say almost half my friends have been referred for measuring either too small or too big and all have been fine.

Sending good plumpening vibes your way...
