jj if you find the answer to the eternal settling question, let me know! DD2 had a bad night - worst part was up from 3:45 until pretty much now... just gone down in bouncy chair but am watching her for five mins before catching a nap myself as I can't quite believe she won't be up again in a minute. She got herself into a complete overtired muddle - all because of a bubble of wind which woke her shortly after I'd put her in the moses basket at 3:45am. Grrrrr.

On a different note, keep the MILisms coming. Horlicks indeed!!!

My Mum's latest is she KEEPS saying, "ooh she's behaving like a proper baby now" when DD2 naps. Er, like what other kind is there? She used to say this with DD1 and it drove me mad. No supreme classics recently apart from a lot of muttering and tutting about the cluster feeding the past few days. Isn't the weight gain proof I'm doing it right? No, apparently I shouldn't be feeding her "again" - and what happened to our three-hour routine? (She wasn't on a routine - I just had to make sure to wake her every three hours while she was badly jaundiced and lethargic. >sigh

Morning all, a fairly decent night for me thank God. DH has been relegated to an air bed in the nursery so that he can get a decent nights sleep so I had dd with me in bed all night. I am not a huge fan of co-sleeping as it proved a nightmare with ds and trying to get him to settle on his own, but it was essential last night to allow me to get some sleep. DD went down at 11, then woke at 2, 5 and 7.30, so pretty much text book.
My first day on my own today so going to try and do some fun stuff with DS (in between a bit of work) and HV coming this pm so will hopefully find out that dd has put on loads of weight and I can relax a bit.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning - I havent had rime to read / post on here at allwith 7 family members staying and a brand new baby! can completely relate to the post c/s slow uterus contraction - it's only been a week for me but still very depressing.
BF going ok but seem to have trouble with the burpind / wind thing. Also keepin ghim awake enough to feed long enough! 20 mins is a stretch at once and he just wants to sleep and is very hard to wake up to burp and keep feeding. Then by the evening when it;s built up all day i seem to spend hours trying to burp him ??? Congtarts to all on the recent births. Well done Veggie !

artichokes · 17/12/2008 10:00

Morning All,

Good luck Cat. I am very jealous of your progress .

I am off to try and acupuncturist to bring on labour. Yesterday's sweep did nothing but give me bad back ache and a few very mild irregular cramps. Maybe a few strategically placed needles will do better.

zoejeanne · 17/12/2008 10:11

Morning all, hope you all got lots (enough?) sleep last night

Cat ? so sorry you?re feeling poorly, and your DP gets better soon. Especially if you are in early labour ? lots of luck if you are.

Katie ? poor, poor you ? its sounds so hard to be feeding so continuously. But pleased to hear last night was better and you got some good sleep. Sending you and your babe more resting vibes for today.

Yay to Jam, good luck and I look forward to hearing your news

Turnip ? that was the first thing I said to DH when I woke up this morning ? 39 weeks! I?m still convinced I?ll be having a 2009 baby, as still no twinges or anything. I?m a teeny bit disappointed you didn?t provide real life nativity action ? that would be a cracking birth story

Veggie ? looking forward to hearing your DS?s name, I find traditions like that so fascinating, so very keen to hear the middle name.

Kayz ? did DS2 sleep well last night after you got him settled? I hope so

JJ ? the crossword and horlicks !! Although my SIL has warned me that my MIL tried to give her DCs luke warm tea, so maybe it?s a generational thing??

Verso ? enjoy your DD1?s concert, it sounds so lovely

Arti ? good luck with the acupuncturist today

I have no plans today, apart from pleasing myself ? I feel lovely and relaxed and looking forward to the day, it?s a nice feeling . Oh, and I started the day with happy news ? my best friends grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary yesterday and they got a telegram from the queen ? I didn?t know you got a telegram from the queen and I think it?s lovely. Makes me want reach 60 years, only 58 to go ?

Turniphead1 · 17/12/2008 10:39

Morning all. Cat sounds like early labour! How exciting!

KMP 7 family members - you poor thing. Hope they are "adding value"!

arti hope the acup. helps it all on its way. I had it with DS and well - I went before I was induced (but of course one will never know if it would have happened anyway)

verso good for you booking in your singing. Sounds lovely. And enjoy your DD's xmas play.Grrr at the "proper baby" comments. How interesting that you have been caring for/feeding a "faux baby" for the last number of weeks....the mind truly boggles....

jump - jaysus, horlicks for a newborn. whatever next!?!hope you get a rest today
and they get their ar*es off the sofa. Don't know who is bringing em tea - it better not be you - but whoever it is should stop and show them where the kettle is, the washing machine and the iron

reban hope sweep works tomorrow if nothing has happened before them.

ZJ I am having twinges but nothing proper. Think we will both be 2009 gals!? Have my 39 week check today. May ask the m/w to have a little bit of a feel to see what the old cervix is up to....Lovely about your friends gps. 60 years eh - fair play to 'em!

lowrib glad to hear from you! Was a bit worried about you! Great tip on the pholcodeine linctus pink drop - will ask today for some! Any twinges for you?

katie glad you had a better night! Hope Kayz did too.

Gosh - we have the ipod on speakers and on shuffle and Eminem keep coming on with his naughty old potty mouth! Glad the Dc are out and about!

My BiL is arriving today. He is being told where the dishwasher is (as in, put stuff in it rather than leaving at his elbow) and to help himself from fridge. I am NOT waiting on him!

emmanbump · 17/12/2008 11:54

Hi All,

Reban wishing you only good luck from now on.

Well done ZJ on the average baby. Glad your mind is at rest now.

Hope all is going well Jam Cat sounds like you are on your way. Hope it's not to painfull for you.

Katie pleased to hear you had a better night. Hope it continues.

Sorry to all I have missed.

News re me. My trapped wind isn't trapped wind. I have a UTI that is why I have been in so mucy agony for days. Got some lovely painkillers (can take some in 40mins woo hoo) and antibiotics. Cannot wait for them to kick in as I am climbing the walls at the mo with the pain. At least I know what it is now and it is being treated.

Have a good day all

Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 11:59

Horlicks? Tea? And these women think we should listen to their advice. My mum would never leave any of us with my nanna when we were still bottle feeding because nan would add whiskey to our bottles to help us sleep.

Poor DS is still unwell so will have to miss his Christmas concert and he is still desperate to take a photo of his new DB into show his friends. He is going in on Friday if he is better for the school christmas party and lunch so hopefully he better by then.

kayzr · 17/12/2008 11:59

Morning,

I hope everyone is ok. I haven't really caught up yet so I promise I will try too soon.

Last night was much better. He fed really well and then slept for 3 hours and then fed well again and slept for another 3 hours. I am having some trouble getting him to latch on as he tends to get the breast in his mouth and then pushes it away from himself with his hand. So its a bit of a 2 man job at the minute. I latch him on and DH holds his hand out of the way.

Kmp My MW said that BF babies tend not to burp but they fart instead. It really made me laugh when she said it but I honestly think DS2 has burped once since he was born.

We had a different MW today. She was lovely but seemed to contridict(sp) the MW we've had for the past few days.

She said that unless we really want too not to give DS2 EBM, she said that it does confuse some babies until they are a bit older. She said that I should really only express if one breast leaks when he is feeding off the other one as it will probably make me produce more milk than he needs. Which will then make them more engorged and painful.

Why do so many people make BF look so bloody easy and natural but then when you try it, it can be quite hard to do?

Olipop · 17/12/2008 12:05

Morning! (just about!)

Zoe - Great to hear that you have a perfectly average baby. It's horrible when you get stressful check ups.
CatDean - I have a bit of a tickly cough (which gets so annoying that I end up throwing up...lovely! My mum just said that guzzling gallons of hot as you can handle boiled water with a bit of manuka honey thrown in does the trick. She is coming round with some later. I'll get her to pop by you!

Kayz and Rosmerta - I know what you mean about DC1 (even though I haven't produced DC2 yet). I am really scared of how it will be. Hopefully, as you are a few weeks ahead of me you'll be able to drag me out of the tunnel when I hit it. I can't imagine having to share myself between two.

Rosmerta - I am so sorry the BF didn't work out. I know how much it upset you the first time. Big hugs and lots of love.

DS is poorly today so didn't go to nursery. He has a temp and a hacking cough (sounds like a sealion) so is at home on the sofa and is zonked out. He looks so cute but I am going to go a bit stir crazy in the house I'm sure. Wed and Thurs are usually his nursery days and I am going to sound like evil mum but I'd booked myself a special pregnant lady indian head and foot massage combo tomorrow that I have just cancelled as he doesn't look like he'll go then either. Hmmph..would have been lovely! Oh well. Thing is, when he is at the height of his calpol buzz he is fine...was asking to do painting at 6.30 this morning [hmmm]. But when it wears of he is grotty as hell.
So I am on the sofa and still in pjs!

Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 12:07

DS2 seems to love a good burp and fart, takes after his dad. He either burps as soon as I sit him up after a feed or with a bit of a pat, and there have been some amazing sounds coming from his nappy. I'm sure ds1 wasn't like that with him we believed the HV who said bf babies don't need burping and the poor little thing got an accumulation of trapped wind that had him screaming for 2 hrs one night so didn't believe them after that.

Hi everyone,

Not been around for last few days - back soon I promise.

Not caught up on the thread yet but in case nobody else has had chance to post yet I've just had this text from CatDean:

"Hi had baby this morning 7lb 8oz, took us all by surprise, 5 hour homebirth. Am knackered right now but will be in touch soon. No name as yet! X"

BTW she was expecting a boy!

Hooray! Well done Cat & MrCat. Can't wait to hear more soon.

Hope everyone's well - see you soon.

JamInMyWellies · 17/12/2008 14:29

Hi all,

baby Lachlan was born last night weighing 9.5 lb. Will fill you in on all the details later. Pic on my profile.

zoejeanne · 17/12/2008 14:38

Congratulations to cat and to jam - great news and well done to both of you!

lowrib · 17/12/2008 14:41

Hiya Turniphead1 I'm really sorry I didn't mean to worry you!

I kind of went into extreme nesting! Since I last posted regularly here, I've been living in a world of chaos as we've put in a new kitchen and decorated pretty much the whole flat. Getting everything done in time has been exhausting. It was all very time consuming and I didn't have much time for mumsnetting myself for a while.
Then I got a hideous cold which I've had for 2 weeks now and I just can't seem to shift. Seems like lots of people have it, it's bugger! I am hiding in bed now and doing NOTHING (well a bit of MNing perhaps!)

About the Pholcodine Linctus - just wanted to say it works well, but you'll have to check if we're actually allowed
to have it when PG, I'm not sure.

I'm due on Christmas day, no twinges yet, but I am really starting to feel like there's simply not enough room in this body for the two of us! (Well not if I'd like to keep my internal organs).

It's really exciting to hear about all the babies! Congratulations everyone!

Catdean Hope you're feeling OK, perhaps you're in labour now? Good luck, I hope all goes well

lowrib · 17/12/2008 14:46

Cross posts, sorry!

Congratulations Catdean and JamInMyWellies!!

Hiya Poisondwarf, how's it going?

Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 15:58

Hooray Cat and Jam. Superfast Cat and nice for you to stay right where you are now at home and enjoy your baby. Jam good size well done hope you sorted the IL's out with babysitting.

Turniphead1 · 17/12/2008 16:22

Fabulous news Cat and Jam so pleased. And love the name Lachlan!

lowrib gosh, don't worry. I have just kind of aware you hadn't been on in ages as you are due day after me and ZJ. PD good to hear from you as messenger.

Kazy glad last night was better. Those little hands are a b*gger. Have you tried feeding him half swaddled as I think Veggie suggested a while ago to s'one else.

I went to m/ws today. She said no point doing an internal (unless I wanted a sweep - and that was a "no" as she has seen people with fully closed long cervixes (is that the plural? cervi? cervices?) come back that evening in full labour - and people 3cm dilated take another week or so. I share that just to reassure anyone who has been told nowt happening...

But she did say that the miniTurnip was fully engaged and that her own feeling was it wouldn't be much longer! Well I hope so...but wouldn't bet on it. This weekend would be just perfect thanks very much!

Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 16:45

Turnip don't want to get your hopes up but I had been 3/5 engaged for a couple of weeks then last Friday the MW said I was fully engaged then she was back on the Saturday helping him out.

traceface · 17/12/2008 16:48

just a quick post here - have tried to catch up then by the time I try to write one of my dcs wants me!
Had terrible night last night - just greedy dd2 wanting to be attached to me continually and whenever I put her down she would cry and root around, then I'd put her back on the boob, she'd feed then puke, then root and cry....and so it went on...all night!!! I truly didn't sleep a wink until she finally went to sleep at 6.30, then dd1 woke at 7 so I had to get up and play!!!! DH went to work today but doesn't have to go back in till after xmas now, so that should help. Anyway have had a mega headache all day and still cry every time I wee, but have developed a technique where I bite on a towel and sing at the same time!
Well after being in tears at greedy guts all morning I gave in and put a dummy in her mouth when I thought she's had enough feed, and hey presto, she fell asleep sucking it - so that's tonight's plan...we'll see how it goes. Don't think there'll be nipple confusion coz she's such a good feeder. Bad me resorting to the dummy already, but if we all get some more sleep I think it'll benefit us all more!
Have had 2 mw visits and she has been lovely. Next visit due on Monday but I can ring her mobile at any point before then. I asked her about my dangly sore bits and she said it looks 'grazed' but it is separate from the stitched bit, so if it's still sore next week see the GP. First GP appointment is monday 29th so will have to bite-and-sing it out till then!!! Am rattling with my combo of paracetamol, diclofenac, anti-depressant, and iron tablets!
Anyway, think I might prod dd2 now because since putting the dummy in she's slept nearly 3 hours (!) and I'd rather she saved such lovely sleep till night time!
Have not yet left my house since we got home but am hoping to get to see dd1's nativity tomorrow afternoon...that's my aim of the day!
Have thought of some more good points to extend my list...
I can sleep on my belly again!!!!! (or lie and not sleep as the case may be!)
I can eat pate!
hope that's not too mean to say when some haven't popped yet, but these small consolations have to balance out the painful fandangle and lack of sleep/ sanity!!

EffiePerine · 17/12/2008 17:09

Was about to post Cat's message but I see PD beat me to it! Should obv be offering my services as labour induction: met with with PD for coffee and she had her DD a couple of days later and was due to meet Cat on Friday . Cake only payment required...

Congrats to Jam as well on arrival of baby Lachlan

Olipop · 17/12/2008 17:20

Hey - congrats to Jam and Cat lovely news!
Gosh Trace that sounds like a hell of a night. Go with the dummies I say...DS had one really really early and he didn't have any nipple confusion.

kayzr · 17/12/2008 17:21

Congrats to Cat and Jam!!
Lovely name Jam Trace I was thinking exactly the same thing earlier. I can lie on my belly, eat blue cheese, have runny fried eggs and various other things. Its great!!!

Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 17:23

I was just thinking of you Trace. Is the nipple confusion more if you feed them with a bottle than give a dummy. I know I should know this as I am doing the bf helpers course but what exactly is nipple confusion? Ds1 wouldn't allow anything but my boob in his mouth until he was about 6 months and then it was selected solids and beakers only so never has a chance to confuse him.

Trace have you tried the jug of water while your weeing? I'm still a bit confused as to why they didn't decide earlier to give you an episiotomy but then I've never had one of those so don't know if the pain would be better.

Ds2 is feeding well and I'm just starting to remember how much I enjoyed it last time but fudge it hurts, just sent dh out for nipple cream as bleeding a little he is latching ok but as with ds1 he has a tiny mouth (my genes) so can't get much past my ginormuss nipples.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 17/12/2008 17:27

Oh and trace I have mentioned this before but my mum was a 'good' mother and didn't use dummy for us and I sucked my thumb til 6. After much very expensive dental work and spending much of my teens in braces it is a decision she has always regretted.
