LT Thanks. I had a lot of problems with breathing until a few weeks ago, when it settled down. Blood is fine. It's happening when I have BH; I have to move about to catch my breath. It's starting to make me feel quite odd. I might ring up, but don't see what they can do about it.

Nolda · 10/12/2008 10:20

Thanks ladies, looks like a walk is on the cards tomorrow afternoon. It's time I showed this baby boy I mean business! I used to think it a little funny that DH was born by CS because he just refused to come out and the doctors had tried everything else...

zoejeanne · 10/12/2008 10:25

Congratulations to Alliebongo, and to modernlove too ? two boys and both needing turning, cheeky little monkeys! Glad to hear you?re all ok after the ?work? needed to get them in the right position and hope they are both thriving now they are home.

Kayz ? what a nightmare with the kitchen flood, I hope it?s all cleared up now! (my Mum swears by floor scrubbing to bring on labour, so maybe a good clean of your kitchen floor may encourage babykayz along?!)

Turnip ? I do feel ages away from motherhood when on this board, but at aquanatal last night I was closest to my due date and everyone was asking ?any twinges yet?? and ?do you think it?ll arrive before Christmas?? which made it sound very close indeed. It can?t come yet, I haven?t tested my TENS machine or finished my Xmas shopping or cards ?

Verso ? I don?t have a clue what sort of weight gain is average/normal, but 3oz sounds pretty good to me. On the other end of the scale, my cousins little baby took about 2 months to regain his birth weight (and he was only just 7lbs anyway), and nobody said anything at all and just left my cousin to struggle on with him. in both cases!

Oli ? that?s good you have one less day of waiting, hopefully tomorrow will bring the news you want to hear. And bless your Mum, it shows that your baby never really grows up and there?s always something to worry about ? what have we got ourselves into . And I love your pregnancy brain moment ? if there was a sweepstake category I?d vote for you in it!

LadyT ? good luck with the MIL today ? and please do report back on some of the best comments to give us a giggle!

I?m getting a bit scared with all this talk of sweeps, for some reason I?d thought that?d be a nice and effective way of getting labour started without needing to be induced ? how ridiculously naïve am I? I hate smear tests, so bet this will be on a par (at the very least) with one of those [shudder emoticon]. However I hope they?ve worked for both Trace and Arti ? how are you both doing this morning? (and love the idea of windmaster.com trace ? but worry that I might be off the scale and crowned windiest lady ever )

My DH?s Xmas pressie has just been delivered ? I expected to be hanging around all day for that. So think I?ll take the opportunity to dash to Scarborough and get my last few bits of Christmas shopping done ? not feeling energetic, but hopefully will feel better once it?s a job ticked off. Have a good day everyone, and good luck to those who may need it xx

kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 10:31

I was going to clean the kitchen floor last night but DH would not let me at all. It is tempting.

Just got a text from a friend saying "Why haven't you had the baby yet? You were meant to have him early"
Cheers, I'm fed up enough of being pregnant without needing that.

Nolda · 10/12/2008 10:35

Now that you mention it floorscrubbing did bring on the birth of DD.

reban · 10/12/2008 10:38

hi ladies.

congratulations to penny allie and modernlove for their new arrivals. Hope i have not missed anyone out!

Well sweep yesterday was unsuccessful. The consultant tried but she said my cervix was still too high, she did have a good old rumage though and it was much more painful then the sweeps i had on due date with ds1 and ds2. Anyway after paracetamol and an evening in bed ive had a show this morning. This has made me a little paranoid as i had a sweep on my due date with last dc, a show the following morning and he arrived at 2pm in the afternoon! dont think ill be that lucky this time but you never know

re having sweeps early i asked for this one early, based on the fact that its my fourth child, its nearly christmas and im so fed up being pregnant! I knew the midwife wouldnt due it early, she has told me before she cant do it before due date, but as i have been mostly under the hospital this time, a consultant has more authority to act early. And i can honestly say i do think they helped with previous pregnancies and wernt too uncomfortable as my cervix was "very ready" according to the midwife on those occassions.

I did have lots to say and have now forgotten it all with all the catching up rreading but one thing was kayz i have done a similar puttign the wrong hob on thing and melting a lot of plastic, but i wasnt even pregnant at the time so double

take care everyone xx

emmanbump · 10/12/2008 11:09

Congratulations Allie and Mordernlove!!

Oooooooh I wonder how Trace is getting on??

Have a lovely day everyone. x

Kimberly1979 · 10/12/2008 11:45

Any ideas for new threads?? Looks like we are quickly running out of space on this one! ;)

Been really uncomfortable the last two days. Didn't help when some stupid guy in the tube station nearly plowed me over. I thought DH was going to lose it!! Thankfully he didn't! But I have had really bad back aches, tummy is sore and bump seems to have dropped quite a bit. Looks like kimmiebaby is getting ready to start his launch sequence!! Maybe he'll make it before Christmas!

Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday!

Beans33 · 10/12/2008 12:19

HURRAH FOR NEW ARRIVALS!

I haven't really got time to read and catch up at moment, but just sending big love to everyone. Will post my lovely birth story as soon as I can.

I've also put a picture of Izzy and us on my profile if anyone fancies a look.

Sorry to be a bit anti-social at moment, but hope everyone is doing well and lots and lots of love to all.

xx

OP posts:
traceface · 10/12/2008 12:25

well I'm back. doh.
typically things seem to fizzle out when I got there - CTG showed some tightenings, but it wasn't really painful. Am only 1cm dilated so definitely ont in labour. The midwife said they would not even describe my events as contractions because they aren't dilating the cerviz, so they are just 'painful tightenings'. My BP was up but props because I was there!. MW was lovely though and said I was right to get checked out. She said it could go either way from here - either all fizzle out to nothing or build up and end up back there later tonight.
So have now got big headache, still having very 'painful tightenings' and the tears are back - probably build up and disappointment etc...
Sorry to whinge.
DD is being dropped back at 3pm so am going to try to rest a bit to make up for last night.
Verso - I was told 'normal' newborn weight gain is an ounce a day and a rest on sunday!, ie 6oz per week.

OrangeCrush · 10/12/2008 13:23

Trace poor you - sorry everything stopped for you - must be huge dissapointment.

Wish I hadn't told my mum I was having a sweep yesterday as have had 2 phone calls last night and another 4 this morning from nosey parkers concerned relatives wanting to know whether I'm in labour yet - bless my mum for telling everyone and getting all their hopes up

Also, felt a bit weird that my brother a) seems so clued up on the subject and b) wanted to discuss all the gory bits with me

Turniphead1 · 10/12/2008 13:36

trace sorry hon. But you never know how quick it will happen when it does kick of. It could still be very soon. We continue to be in sync. All my action has died off - but my hair is now done! Going to go for a kip to catch up after last night too. Take care.

reban sorry your sweep was so far unsuccessful. And Orange Crush yes, a bit disconcerting for your brother to be asking about such matters, but very sweet of him!

OrangeCrush · 10/12/2008 13:39

At least I know he was in the car on his own not on speaker phone somewhere LOL

artichokes · 10/12/2008 14:01

Sorry that things are not progressing Trace. I hope you can get some rest.

DD's nanny just called to say DD is getting worse and needs to see the doctor so the nanny is bringing her home. Poor, poor DD. I hope she is OK. She got a fever 10 days ago, was just getting over that and now she is really ill again .

Bisou · 10/12/2008 14:10

aw trace how frustrating, you poor thing. Hope things start to gear up properly for you soon.

orangecrush I've just realised you're not on our Dec due list? Did we miss you along the way, or are you on there but renamed? I would hate to miss you off it accidentally

arti hope those sweeps get things moving for you. I can't imagine having to have more than one done. Even the thought of one scares me! I don't know what the procedure is here, I will have to ask the midwife at my 40wk appt tomorrow.

zoejeanne sorry to hear about the heartburn. It does seem suspicious if it happens after you have the RL tea - esp if veggie is experiencing the same. You could always take tablets instead? That's all I could find here in the chemist (unfortunately I haven't got a nice herbal tea store nearby).

waitinggirl hope you've had/are having a wonderful graduation! You deserve it after all that hard work!

LT what a trollop of a HV, I think your DD has such a lovely name.

kayz sorry to hear about your run of bad luck.. but with them running in 3's - well, babykayz coming would be good luck wouldn't it?? Esp since your dad is there now. Want to have a race to first baby for our due date day? Bet yours comes before mine does!

traceface am loving that contractionmaster website, thanks for the link. Much more fun than the boring stopwatch we bought to time contractions. Love how it pulses when the contraction is being timed (perhaps it should play some music like the lone ranger theme tune or something, LOL)

SL I was not engaged at all last appointment (39 weeks) so you're not the only one. I'm looking at the upside though - at least I usually only need to pee once in the night. My sister's first didn't engage till just before labour either, perhaps it's something to do with the shape of our pelvis'?

Turnip that's disgusting about the charges for the airbag disabling. Did they tell you how much it would be before you had it done? (I'm assuming you've had it done). Perhaps ring a couple of other authorised places and ask them for a 'quote' - if you can find it much cheaper elsewhere then at least you've got that as ammo to prove they're being unreasonable about it. I'd also be ringing the car manufacturer to ask how long this job should take (to make sure they're not charging you too much time for it).

Verso sorry to hear you're still having a worrying time with the health care people - I'd say get a second opinion on the weight thing if you need to. I really hate the assumption that all bubs will be the same; surely some will put on more weight than others, and it is still 'normal'? Anyway of course I'm no expert so don't take my word for it, I'm just frustrated on your behalf.

hiccy & nolda hope your sweeps go well.

katie - apols in advance for you with this bit (haven't forgotten about your GD).
LadyT and arti, I was not a big choc fan for many years. I think it was the cheap yuckko stuff I used to get given in mass quantities for easter that did it. I have since however been introduced to extremely good chocolate, and it makes the world of difference. I would rather eat one very small very nice choc than a whole block of the yuccky stuff. I remember being in Belgium and eating some fresh handmade ones at the Galler choc shop... and then when I was in Paris I visited this shop

The other day I went into the grog shop too, to buy a couple of bottles of nice plonk to celebrate babybisou's arrival. For some reason I felt I needed to explain to the cashier that it was for 'post' birth celebration... (didn't want them worrying I was intoxicating my unborn babe )

beans that is a gorgeous photo of your new family. How happy does your DH look!?

And congratulations on the new arrivals Allie and modernlove too. Some more boys to even up the gender count!

TheInvisibleHand · 10/12/2008 14:16

Congrats to AllieBongo and modernlove on your boys. Modernlove - hope you get the help you need with feeding.

Trace and Turnip - that stop start business must be really frustrating. But I guess its all working to get your DCs out in the end...

Arti - your poor DD . Miserable for her and for you - wish you all better soon.

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 14:19

afternoon all have finally caught up but can barely remember what everyone wrote. Woke up very refreshed this morning after actually having a redonably good sleep felt very energetic so did some house work and took DS to his fav park for a scoot and it has a farm with a great cafe and farm shop so we had lunch and hot chocolates as well getting some locally made sausages. Then got him home in time for nursery and now slabbed out on the couch completely shattered. DU has just made me a cup of tea and I'm in my jammies and dressing gown with a blanket over my legs like an old lady.

verso the weight gain sounds good surely they should just look at her development and see she is doing well and leave you alone for a bit. Would it kill them to be a bit positive every now and then.

LadyT you have to serve DPs mum tea in the slut mug.

Trace and turnip the contraction twins hope things either start up again soon or leave you in peace so you can have a good nights sleep.

Katz I have started putting how many days I have left til edd on my facebook status cos I am sick of people asking if I've had it yet. I wouldn't mind so much but almost everyone seems to have forgotten my birthday but not that I'm pregnant. I am having an 'i'm more than just a womb moment'.

Bisou · 10/12/2008 14:21

How about "Once you pop, you can't stop..."

Have a lovely day everyone

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 14:44

has anyone of the chocolate lovers tried Hotel Chocolate they have a few shops but are also online. They are sooo good. Bisou Easter egg chocolate is yukky I think they use crap stuff with extra copha in it.

kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 14:56

Ooooh Veggie there is a Hotel Chocolate shop in York. It is so lovely, I can hardly stop myself buying the whole shop.

Has anyone seen that advert for the hot chocolate? There is a Galaxy one with marshmellows, a malteasrs one with mini malteasers and another 2 I can't remember now. They look really yummy.

I really love easter egg chocolate, I must be wierd!!

hiccymapops · 10/12/2008 15:14

Hello everyone

Had my sweep this morning, and it wasn't as bad as i expected. The midwife told me she'd felt the baby's soft spot on his little head which almost made me cry. I felt fine straight after, but now i'm struggling a bit with extreme pressure down there, and i found it very hard to pick my ds up, so hopefully that's a good sign. The midwife said if i have to be induced, i can't have a homebirth. Serves me right for being so convinced this little one would come early!

trace sorry to hear you're going through it, i hope things get a wriggle on soon. It's awful when you think things are happening, only to discover they're not!

kayz i'm worrying about the same thing, i've bought personalised Christmas stockings and tree decorations, if he turns out to be a girl i'm in trouble

Bisou we went to buy some champagne for the new arrival too, and because we don't really drink the stuff, we asked the lady for some advice and when she found out what it was for she gave us a 25% discount i was really touched.

Hope everyone is feeling well xxxx

abbymeg · 10/12/2008 15:30

Bisou LOL at your explanation in the shop. I would be exactly the same! Saying that, I won't need to buy anything nice to celebrate as I seem to have been given about six bottles of very nice wine and fizz as gifts since I became pg .

Veggie at your nice afternoon. I've become quite housebound because I so massive and uncomfortable. I'm starting to crack from the central heating!

Trace I'm sorry to hear that it stopped; at least things are going in the right direction and hopefully you will get moving again very soon.

I was getting more and more painful BH all morning that didn't stop in the bath (about every 5 minutes). I even started timing, and then it all eased off. I wonder what happens if they do settle into a pattern - I don't know how long to leave it to ring the hospital given that I'm a c-section.

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 15:37

abbey I think you should call them it would be horrid for you to have to deal with a load of contractions if you don't need to.
