Hello everyone,

Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do. Seems like everyone is doing well. The new babies seem to be feeding well and settling into a routine.

Smiley - so glad you made it back to the UK without any drama.

I had my last day at work on Friday (woohoo!)and the two weeks preceding that were really manic and made me feel super tired. Maternity leave couldn't have come a moment too soon. Am loving a more 'relaxed' weekday now - even treated myself to a 3 hour 'nap' yesterday afternoon.

My m/w told me the baby was 3/5ths engaged last week - so everything is moving in the right direction. Am very excited about meeting my baby soon - will be 36 weeks on Saturday.

Cindy congratulations sweetie - try to relax and take things easy. We're all here for you. xx

nelix2000 · 05/08/2009 09:31

pezzina 3/5th?! wow! thats fab!!! I was that 2 days before I went into labour your bundle is well and truely preparing to enter the world!!! how exciting!!!

wanabe really good to hear from you!!!

heeby thats still a good weight!!! Phoebe won't be seen again until 12 weeks now, thats in 3 weeks, but I can take her to the clinic...which I might next week just to make sure these six hour feeds are not too far apart for the hungry wee soul!!! She woke at 4 am ( a horrid time she thinks she should be eating at, but has NEVER eaten at) and I did controlled crying. Not sure if it will work with her....DS responded really well to it,but he was a thumbsucker so could setle himself. DD however is proving to be slightly more challanging. I will try for another night or two and see if she improves.....tis sad when they cry and you cannot fix it

nelix that's girls for you!!! i am convinced they are harder than boys! but correct me guys if i'm wrong as i have only experience of my girls! That's a horrid time yes, does the dummy settle her back again? Don't they have a growth spurt at around 8 weeks? I've been asked to take Gracie back to clinic next week to get her weighed again as she should be gaining a bit more - perhaps if she hadn't thrown up her breakfast and mid morn milk she might of been a better weight!

My DD1 went 8 hours from 3 weeks and for the first 2-3 nights she seemed to cope well although her weight slowed down but then after a few nights her weight picked up as i guess my milk in the day changed to ensure she got more so maybe nelix phoebe is doing the same and your milk may adjust during the day to make sure she gets enough?

Gracie is so much better now, she has kept down all her feeds since yesterday lunchtime and she slept really well last night and settled quickly, although again the 3am feed wasn't much so i think will do this as a bottle from next week and then we can cut it down gradually as she starts to feed better for breakfast and at the 11pm one. We are still letting her nap downstairs from 7pm to her 11pm feed but think we should start to introduce a bath and bed routine soon and put her in her own bed at 7pm ready for nighttime sleep etc, trouble is she is soooo noisy and if she doesn't settle i'm worried it'll affect DD1 -any tips???

pezz wow not long to go for you now honey, esp if baby is 3/5ths already!! exciting times xxx

nelix2000 · 05/08/2009 11:41

heeby no tips for that lol as we still have Pheebs sleeping on the sofa until 12am when she has her dream feed. I tried last night to move her(she sleeps on her tummy downstairs so I can watch her)and she screamed blue murder when I moved her to her cot before her dream feed. We are going to a friends next week for a few days so now would be the wrong time to change what she knows, but when we get back will be doing the same as you and bath/bed routine. Maybe by then she will have dropped the late feed anyway...I hope!!

As to noise....I let her cry last night and DS who is VERY light sleeper seems to have adapted to her noises and nver stirred,,,,maybe your Phoebe is the same and will blank it out??....wish I had started her bed routine earlier lol!!! I just did not have the heart for her to be upstairs alone....I have a video monitor now tho so will be able to see her! and I will still be up there checking her breathing every ten mins!! I am ridiculous.....ooh and yes her dummy does settle her but she is pants at keepng it in..(hence tummy in the day, she keeps it in easily then)so crys mins later when it falls out!!

Hi Nelix and Heeby - I was excited when the m/w told me I was 3/5ths but apparently as this is my first the baby starts to get engaged a lot earlier than in subsequent pregnancies and it could still be another 4 weeks before my little bundle comes along. Oh well, at least that still gives me time to get the nursery sorted and my bags packed. I'm terrible at getting around to these things!

I'm glad you guys seem to be dealing with the breast feeding really well. It has definitely given me hope that I will be able to cope.

spats · 06/08/2009 12:04

has anyone read all the messages we have posted over last months. What a journey we have all been on. Its like a personal diary of how you are feeling. I may print it out and keep it all. Scarily in a few month most of us will have had baby and this will turn into a post natal chat room. Can't belive we are all due so soon.

I think i am ok to leave a week earlier on mat leave so next week is last week. horray. I am so tired at work today and its so hot which doesn't help, although i am not wishing the sun to go away!!

I also may have finally found a buggy which is light and folds up like an umbrella. It a graco mosaic, anyone had one before?

xx

Heebychick · 06/08/2009 21:45

spats that's a really good idea re printing it all out, it would be nice for the scrapbook in the future. I kept a diary with DD1 but sadly haven't really got the time with Gracie! But i will make more of an effort, it would be mean not to!

nelix i feel so much better knowing that you are doing the same as us, we started Phoebe's bedtime routine at 3 weeks which was fine as she had her own room but we only have a 2 bed house so Gracie will have to share with Phoebe soon enough (she's in with us for now) so we haven't worried about putting her in her cot at 7pm and have been letting her sleep in her carrycot on the dining room table behind the sofa! Plus i think it helps with the noise and sleep thing, Phoebe is a really light sleeper too and i wonder if it because we put in silence to sleep from an early age rather than let her kip through anything? I agree re bedtimes tho with these, we shall wait a few weeks and then try the bath/bed together and off into cots etc.

I think i'm going to give Gracie a bottle at 3am tonight, she isn't great at latching on unless she's wide awake and i'd prefer to almost dreamfeed (which you can't do with a boob!) as she is very sleepy and doesn't drink much at all but still lasts the next 4 hours till 7am. So will give it a go tonight and see how we get on, i'm hoping it might be less upsetting for her and she won't get so wakeful.

pezz lots of luck in these last few weeks, however long you have to wait! it is hard and very tiring but so worth it! Yes BF is great, once you have it sorted (don't expect it to be great right from the start, you both have to learn and there are a few horrid stages to go through before it settles down - no milk, engorgement, over production, leaking everywhere etc !) Sounds nice but it really is lovely to feed them and such a great bonding time.

xx

nelix2000 · 08/08/2009 09:09

heeby I know what you mean! thats why we moved as we had a 2 bed house, thankfully we were just renting so were in a position to buy when the market crashed and got a real bargain on our house(despite the woodchip walls lol!), but kids have their own room. DS would wake if he had to share, and as the are one boy and one girl, we would have had to have moved anyway! Yes re the noise factor, we put the tv on in the bedroom when we take Pheebs up, tho the last two nights I have done it, I have just gone to my bed too! lol,,,,,DS was the smae as your Phoebe, he is SUCH a light sleeper and is a nightmare to sleep if there is noise, tho he is gettign better. Whereas Phoebe slept in the living room when 7 of my neices and nephews, 6 adults and my ds were running like crazy!

She seems to be strething her feeds lots now....ie feeding at 6 or 7pm, a dreamfeed now at 1am, then breakfast not till 7.30. I am just going with the flow for now as I think they can set their own routine generally speaking.

pezz how are you coping in the heat?and everyne else for that matter??

nelix i couldn't open the pictures! Argh!!

We sound quite similar and it looks like we're having similar experiences! Yes i agree, they do tend to set their own routine a bit and Gracie has tended to stick to her 4 hourly feeds, but it seems the last few nights it has affected her nighttime as she has woken at 2am then 5am so i don't think i'm getting enough into her during the day, so i will concentrate on this a bit more and i think try to ensure she is full to bursting at the 11pm one!

She has a bit of reflux i think as she has been a bit sicky after feeds (hence the not great weight gain) so i am going to let her set the pace a bit too.

Also we are thinking of starting the bath/bedtime routine from now, to start to give her a bit of a plan for the evenings. I think it will help me too as i like to have a routine, even if we don't stick to it properly, at least it might help structure us a bit.

I'm so glad the summer is back a bit but i am so glad i'm not pregnant! How is everyone else?

Hi guys -

I'm doing okay in the heat - thanks. Haven't been suffering so much with swollen feet and ankles these past few days - which is good news .

We went to Ikea late Friday night (oh, how my life has changed!) to get final bits for house and nursery. Our house was in total chaos
yesterday whilst we put things together and moved stuff around but I'm glad to say that today things are beginning to look good. Have got to take apart double bed in spare room and bring in the cot and other bits of furniture for the baby then the spare room will have finally become a nursery!

How is everyone else?

nelix!!!! Wow she is so adorable! i can't believe time has flown by so much, she is looking so strong and grown up! really lovely video, bless her. How was your nite? i'm hoping to have some more sleep now DH is doing the 11pm feed then i can get to bed early. Thank you re clothes, i'd love them please, let me know how much and where/how to pay.

sparky our DD was the same last nite!! she was awake from 6pm to her next feed at 11! we tried everything but no she was wide awake! then of course didn't feed well at 11, even dreamfeeding was impossible with her mouth clamped shut, so knock on effect was she woke at 2 am then at 5.30am hungry!

pezz i'm so excited for you, i came across a picture of a pregnant me first time round, in our nursery admidst clutter and half made feeding chair etc, i looked a mixture of impatience, fear and excitement!

Oh can i offer a tip to those first time mums ..... write a diary if you're not already, put all your thoughts in, good and bad as when you have number 2 or 3 you can look back and see how you coped or what not to do this time round! i have found mine so useful - esp the 'what not to panic about this time' parts!!

nelix2000 · 10/08/2009 16:36

heebyno payment needed, maybe just postage?
Night was ok...Phoebe woke up screaming for an hour for no reason so am putting it down to growing pains like her brother had, fingers crossed tonight she will be ok. She is feeding at 6pm, 12am, then no breakast until 8am....so if she could stop waking that odd time in the night I would get some sleep lol!!!! How about you? can I cat you about the clothes?

Hi ladies
Glad everyone is doing well, haven't been on for a while as have been mad busy getting moved back into the house, we also spent over 4hrs today at Ikea Pezz buying wardropes for our bedroom and a cot mattress for the baby, DH is upstairs now putting it all together can't wait till its all done then I can finally unpack the boxes and get moved in before the baby arrives, which is now only 3 1/2 wks away....scary or anytime now if she comes early. I had a wicked migrain last night and by boobs havn't stopped leaking today so I think my hormones maybe changing getting ready for birth....will keep you posted
must go dh is shouting for a hand with the building, take care x

spats · 10/08/2009 20:24

So glad weather has changed today. Usually love heat and sun but the last few days i ahven't coped well. Fri afternoon feet swollen so spend most of sat with feet up. Just managed to get rings off fingers so don't have to cut them off. Now its cooler may get some more sleep. Last week at work hopefully as long as my annual leave put through. Don't think could manage much more. Am looking foward to getting up later in mornings and vegging out with DS until they go back to school. Well must go and try order some furniture for baby room. 5 weeks to go and counting x

nelix2000 · 11/08/2009 08:37
