nelix2000 · 24/07/2009 09:01

funtime hello hows you?

DS is 2.5. We have tried a couple of times but he didnt take to it. This morning he totally amazed us, we left a potty in his room and I went into him this morning and he had removed his dry nappy and done a wee.!!

He does not ask for a wee, he just goes on the potty when he needs. I am worried about how to get him to ask as he starts playgroup in august and will need to ask to go. Find it a bit odd they expect 2 year olds to be toilet trained AND ask to go. If they had a potty corner, ds would just go....may ask them if they can introduce one. Surely most kids are potty trained then toilet trained?

I would not worry about your DS, he is still young. One day DS was weeing on my dining table, the next(literally) he took himself of to the potty. I think its timing and something clicking with them. Just wish DS would ask to go now!any tips anyone?

heeby how you doing?have you posted pics yet?did i miss them?

Hi all, wow September will be a busy month for this thread, Pezz sorry it was you who was close to my due date not Funtime how are you doing. I was quite uncomfortable this morning with mild period type pain and had a small panic that things might be happening too early, but all seems ok now I guess her head is just settling in a bit deeper.
We move out of our flat a week today and into a hotel for a couple of nights then start the long drive back to Portsmouth next Sunday, my finger & legs will be tightly crosed that she will stay put until we reach solid UK soil on the Monday and then at least I can settle down and start on the nursey etc & make it all seem real.

Heeby we woul love to see some pics

WanabeMum · 24/07/2009 13:29

Hi all,

wow smiley can't believe how close it is for you now, doesn't seem long since you were planning to come home to UK now it's happening! Hope the journey isn't too much work for you and it all runs smoothly.

How's everyone else?

Very odd question but here goes ........... for the last week I have experienced a popping sound (exactly like when you do a popper up) coming from my tummy, usually from the same spot above my belly button. Baby is moving around normally etc but it's making me paranoid that something isn't right or that my waters may be leaking?! I'm having more discharge than previously but it's not watery at all, just that gross creamy stuff. Anyone experienced anything like this or any advice?

Heebychick · 24/07/2009 14:43

Hello,

wanabe i had lots of discharge too, i'd go through lots of pantyliners which i hated! i'm not sure on the popping sound, i'd get lots of weird sounds at the top of my bump towards the end, like there was a hollow space there. Strange. I'm sure it's nothing but maybe chat to a midwife about it when you speak to them next just to be sure. I would of thought that pain would come with any bad news.

nelix i am seriously impressed!! that's so great! Our DD is there i'm sure, she tells us every time she's done a wee or a poo and she has used the potty a few times, but we haven't pushed it as too much going on in her life at the mo to start, but we will wait a few weeks or so until it's all settled down for her and then try cold turkey. I hope your nursery offer a potty corner, or maybe when he sees the other children asking he might pick up on it? i guess it's the next step so it'll come i'm sure.Well done tho to him! How has he settled with Phoebe?

smiley keep those legs crossed girl, we don't want a cross channel or hotel born bub! Make a nice birth story tho!

All is really well here, Gracie was found to have a tongue tie last night so they offered to snip it right away at the clinic, which was awful to witness but on the plus side she then fed really well (both boobs twice!) and then slept well all night, only waking once for a feed. So it looks like we're on to 4 hourly feeds already, like nelix's phoebe she is feeding so much my boobs are overflowing which is not pleasent, i can't wait for it all to settle.

What age did you introduce the formula nelix? last time we got DD onto a bottle almost right away so DH could feed her at bedtime, but then she totally refused a bottle from around 4 weeks to 5 months old! it was a nightmare having to try and satisfy her myself and not be able to offer her extra from a bottle. I wonder if we offered th bottle too early before BF was established? might try and wait a few more weeks and get her really happy BF first, any thoughts?

Will try add a pic now onto my profile now so if you click my name it should let you look at it, it was taken on a Blackberry so apologies for the clarity.

xx

nelix2000 · 24/07/2009 16:09

heeby good to hear from you!!! Phoebe was the same for the fist few days, then her feeding went mental and she ate all the time lol!! She only started having formula for her 11pm feed 4 days ago(7 weeks), but she loves it. She drinks a full 8 ozs.......I don't know where she puts it but she is a big baby....long as well as chubby...she is all in proportion tho.

What is tongue tie??did they have to cut it?is it when the connecting skin on the underside is to short or something?poor Gracie!!!! (we considered the name Grace, love your choice!!!)

funtimewincies · 24/07/2009 19:13

Wanabe - there have been a few threads about popping bumps and I think that it's normal (if a bit weird ). Here's a link to some of them.

Smiley - glad to hear that they sorted Gracie's tongue tie. I'm ashamed to say that I'd never heard of this until a couple of weeks ago and I consider myself to be fairly well informed.

Nelix - I'm OK, but need to see my MW about a few blacking-out incidents. It's probably only low blood pressure again, but I've got an appointment next week so I'll ask then. Generally I'm exhausted but I think that's par for the course with a toddler. It's beginning to dawn on me what life with 2 might be like!

Heebychick · 25/07/2009 10:21

nelix Gracie sounds just the same and i spok too soon ... she has spent the last 24 hours feeding almost constantly, good feeds too so not just a comfort thing. It's really tough to cope with when you have a demanding toddler eh. I will keep away from dummies and formula for as long as i can but not sure i can keep up hourly feeds for long!

funtime you need to take care of yourself honey, trust me it is a relief to have your body back eventually! Easier to cope with a toddler that's for sure!

x

nelix2000 · 25/07/2009 17:31

heeby we used a dummy from day one lol!!! she LOVES it now....was a conscienous effort on my part as ds is a thumb sucker and won't stop....so I wanted her to love her dummy yet she still sucks her fist when it falls out! but she can't sleep with out it...no nipple confusion from that yeah Phoebe cluster fed in the evenings...ALL evening was so draining but only lasted a few days until my milk came in properly...I hope it settles down for you...its exhausting

OP posts:
funtimewincies · 25/07/2009 19:17

Same here Nelix and Heeby. Having said that I'd never use a dummy, ds had on in his chops within a week - the relief was incredible . We had to wean him off it at about 10 months though as he kept losing it in the night and expecting me to find it !

Heebychick · 26/07/2009 18:53

Phew .... we did the same with DD1 (sounds weird to say 'DD1' now with the '1' on the end!) she had it from really early on and at about 4 months she started to ask for it and rely on it a lot so we took it away, which was quite easy really, and replaced it with a blankie, which she adores and is totally addicted to and won't sleep without. I like comfort blankets, toys, sucky things etc, i really think they offer a bit of security at all stages of development and DD1 hugs hers whenever she is tired, sad, scared, worried or hurt etc so we wouldn't be without it. (them actually - she has 5 identical ones!)

Well last night was a nightmare! Gracie was awake from 11pm (when i woke her to feed) to 4am, she wasn't really crying but she wouldn't feed properly either, she seems to struggle with BF, she goes on, sucks a bit then lets go and screams then does the same thing again and again, i'm not sure if it's my milk being a fast flow (until it settles down) at this early stage and she can't keep up or if she does can't do it, have given in and given formula which she takes easier but not sure which way to go now. I have expressed (a whole bottle worth!) to give her in the night to see if this helps her to stay settled enough to go back to sleep.

Newborns - sooo tricky! but sooo lovely!

Heebychick · 26/07/2009 19:00

I've just read an article on overbundant breast milk, this sounds like it might be my problem, i have noticed that i flood everywhere at each feed and it does flow really fast which must be tricky for her. I have also noticed that my milk let down is triggered by just putting cream on and if she cries, so i could have milk come in every hour or so at this rate! I know it will settle down eventually so will keep at it and use the bottle as a back up.

funtimewincies · 26/07/2009 19:04

With hindsight, this was my problem feeding ds Heeby especially in the morning when I was brimming and ds reacted in exactly the same way. I've got huge norks and the poor lad just couldn't cope with all this milk gushing out of these monstrous hooters . This time I plan to express a little at full times before I even attempt to latch on.

Heebychick · 26/07/2009 19:12

That's exactly what i am going to do, it says to express the first 'let down' so it doesn't flood them and only feed off one breast for the entire feed within any 4 hour period. I feel a lot better now, i will keep trying and hope that it calms down soon.

We do want to use a bottle at times but not until BF is established really.

funtime the morning boobs are awful! i even have a let down reflex when i put nipple cream on - nice, I flood everywhere during feeds and go through 2 muslins each time, lovely.

funtimewincies · 26/07/2009 19:29

Sounds familiar . No-one told me about expressing the first milk if it's too gushy so I just ploughed on regardless . It's waking up in a pool of milk that I used to hate!

nelix2000 · 27/07/2009 10:09

heeby poor you! Phoebe has gone back to 2 hourly feeds at ight again....gosh she grows a lot. This is with a full 8 ounces of hugry baby milk before bed, makes no difference to her whatsoever....

She did as you described, screaming when I latcehd her on, this lasted every feed for about 4 days, she still does it sometimes, but I think I am the opposite, I think my milk is too slow for her, she downs a bottle in no time and gets frustrated with my boobs. I can't even express for her or I would do that to make her feeds easier as I am determined to breastfeed. Its hard tho when they are screaming at you with hunger.

Can I ask what breastpump you are using? I am using tommee tipee and it sucks(or doesnt as the case is). I used avent with DS and could express loads, maybe I should buy one of those....

How is everyone else???Bet bumps are getting huge now!!!!

smileycat · 27/07/2009 11:00

Hi all just popped in for a quick 5mins to see how everyone is. Sorry to hear you are having some problems feeding Heeby My DS was 4 wks early and I had to bottle feed him for the first 5 days until my milk came in but luckily for me he took to the breast straight away and I was able to express so that DH could feed him in the evenings so from my experience it didn't really matter that he had a bottle before I BF but maybe I just got lucky and was able to do both.
Its soooo hot here now & I am suffering with the heat, only another 5 days to go before we set off for the UK then I will be complaining that its tooo cold

WanabeMum · 27/07/2009 12:29

Hi everyone,
Wow lots to look forward to in the BF department I see! Hope it sorts itself out for you though heeby. Smiley i can't believe it's almost time for you to come back to the UK, that has gone so fast.

I went to a midwife led birth centre for a look around on Saturday and it was amazing. The whole ambiance was lovely and calming, the staff were very knowledgable, and i felt so comfortable there. I've decided to change over to them instead of my local hospital. DH was happy with it too and said it seemed like the best option (especially considering my little phobia of hospitals!). Just hope the rest of my PG runs as smoothly as it has so far otherwise it's back to the hospital idea

How's everyone else?

funtimewincies · 27/07/2009 19:35

Oooh jealous wanabe . MW-led birthing centre - not round here ! Far too 'knit-your-own-lentils' for the likes of us, it's hospital or homebirth with nothing in between . It's great that you've got access to such facilities .

C1NDY · 28/07/2009 08:44

Hi All... I am back from a short break.

HEEBY Congratulations to you and your DH on the birth of your darling daughter Gracie what a wonderful name.

Reading all your posts has made me well up... you have all come so far and you are all nearly at the end. I am looking forward to sharing more good news from you all. Looks like it will be a busy September!

I am not the two week wait... so fingers and toes crossed. Haven't heard anything from Jools has anyone seen her online, its been a while now and its not like her

WanabeMum · 28/07/2009 13:08

Funtime it is good that we have access to it, but apparently not many women use it (well not as many as should really). Glad it's an option though, nightmare only having hospital or home birth. Are you going for hospital?

Hey C1indy, long time no see (you know what i mean). Haven't heard from jools at all or seen her online actually. Hope all is well. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I'm ssssoooo excited about having my little one now, want the next few weeks to skip away. I feel very positive about my ability to give birth and am actually quite keen ( not sure correct word?) to give it a go. Just hope it all runs smoothly, that's all I ask. I just want my little bub now

funtimewincies · 28/07/2009 18:56

More babies on the way soon, very exciting !

Wanabe - yup, hospital for me. I'd be happy with a home birth but dh would hate it. Very few people take up a home birth here, despite the MWs being supportive (well, mine are anyway). Dh is a scientist through and through and just doesn't see the need. Neither of us are bothered by hospitals, although I'd prefer a more homely environment. Luckily I had ds when the unit was quiet (early December) and that made it a lot easier. I'd heard rumours that a birth pool was now available, so I'll check that out as a bath worked a treat with ds .

I'm surprised that not many women use the MW-led centre, I'd have though they'd be queueing!

C1NDY · 29/07/2009 08:39

WanabeMum Hi there, glad you are feeling positive.. the time will fly. I wish I was on the same page as you but my time will come soon... one day. Just take everyday as it comes. Is this your first one? as if it is you should enjoy the time now as your life will never be the same again... in a nice way Relax and Rest up as much as you can.

Heebychick · 29/07/2009 10:10

Hi all,

nelix i'm using the tommee tippee one too, i used it last time and it worked really well and seems to be working this time, altho i'm going to try and wait until 4 weeks before we give Gracie a bottle, especially as i'm still trying to regulate BF. I really hope this time we won't have a problem with mixed feeding, last time DD1 had a bottle at night with DH from the start and then at 4 weeks she totally refused the bottle, we tried everything and it was at the same time that my sister was in hospital so i had to do all the driving to and from inbetween feeds, nightmare! DH felt useless and i really want to avoid it this time if we can, but as you all say there's no rules as some babies do both naturally from the start.

*wanabe how lovely your MW birth centre sounds, we have one here and i went there for a day after hospital as a bit of respite, it was so relaxing and a home from home, if you can give birth there i'd say do it for sure, much nicer than hospital!! Sounds as tho you are totally prepared mentally and physically which is brilliant, a positive mind has such an impact i think. Have you been using your almond oil ?!!

cindy so lovely to hear from you, lots of luck for the 2 week wait, will be waiting with baited breath for your good news!

Well we are all well here, Gracie is feeding every 4 hours and seems to be coping with the flooding (yuk yes i do too wake up with a soaked t shirt and bra, nice!) so hopefully she is getting enough now. She seems less windy too, i guess with all the screaming on and off when she first feeds doesn't help. We had our first HV visit yesterday and that went well, she's pleased with us and Gracie is putting on weight which is good news, she's not back to her birth weight yet but almost. nelix sounds like you have a really hungry monster there! tee hee, good that she has such a great appetite but tiring for you i bet.

C1NDY · 30/07/2009 10:51

It seems like our old ttc is fading away and I don't have the energy to make new friends on Mumsnet. I am just going to read all your posts from time to time and may pop in from time to time to tell you all how I am doing - if that is okay with you all It may help me not to be too obsessive with posting threads.

Love to all
Cindy

Hey everyone just catchign up. Don't seem to have much time to come on these days. 7 weeks and counting !!!Poor DS had to go to jospital to have grommits put in yesterday. I know it was only a minor op but i am such a pessamist and always think worst case senario, wish i didn't so had been stressing for weeks now about op. He (of course!!) is OK. Heart went out to him as he had a few tears rolling down cheek when gas was near him, expect he was so scared but what a brave little man. had to stop getting to near to him coz i could smell the gas, all i need to to keel over from inhalling his anaesthetic!!! Thankgoodness he was first on the list though as they do the youngest first and being only 4 meant we dodn't have to wait around too much. One stress down, now only got septembers birth to go!! actually got to get said DS into reception class a week before my due date. Life is so manic sometimes.

Oh who ever was worrying about potty training , said son (again!!) was 3yrs 7 months before he decided he was ready, despite us trying to do it about 3 months before in the summer (last year) where we had wee (and poo!!) on grass. He was only going to do it when he was good and ready and when he was ready he did it straight away only 1 pair of wet pants my next door neighbours boy last time i asked was still not ready and he was nearer 3 years 10 months!!! they will do it when they are readty, as long as they are dry for school i don't see the stress.

Cindy - good luck for 2 week wait and of course you must wait on this thread with us. We want to hear the news first!! whats happened to other thread, had everyone graduated or just fallen off?

Hope everyones bumps are growing nicely. I seem to have grown huge again overnight as my top i wore at the weekend is now to tight, unless it shrunk in the wash

Sorry for long post but haven't been on for a while. you will be glad to know i have finished and am going back to work -only 3 more weeks left then on mat leave x
