Calling all pregnant ladies in Blackheath/Manor Park/Lew

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet AND being a mum ? this is my first!! Am only 15+3 weeks. I live in Blackheath / Lew and was wondering if there are any pregnancy groups that I can join / attend other than the NCT classes (I might be too early for those classes?). Just a gossip coffee on a saturday morning with people in the same boat would be nice!

I often catch the train from Blackheath St and wonder if there are any other 15 weekers on the platfrom just getting over morning sickness!!

Im very accessible to Manor Park too.

Would love to hear from anyone

Hello everybody, can I join too?

I'm 24 weeks with my first, v near Blackheath and would love to meet other pregnant ladies - I'm spending all my time on the internet reading about pregnancy as it is, so it'd be great to be less sad and get out and meet real people! Real people who might also find their every waking thought is absorbed by what's going on inside their bump and won't mind if I don't have an opinion on current affairs! I'll keep an eye on this thread and would love to come to next (wish it could be alcoholic) drink. OMG meeting new people without booze -somebody tell me the raging hormones make up for the sobriety, right?

And I'm going to check out pregnancy yoga in the Friends Meeting Hall behind the station tomorrow, does anyone on here go?

feb80 · 14/01/2009 17:26

Hi DeputyChairman - welcome and congratulations! Pregnancy yoga sounds good, I'd be interested in coming along if you can post the details.

Great to see so many at The Railway on Monday. We're hardly their best customers ordering rounds of soft drinks but so much nicer than a coffee shop - we'll leave that for when the babies arrive!

xx

daisyj · 14/01/2009 17:44

I'd be interested in yoga too - I've been very slack (quite literally) about exercise. Can't make tonight, but would be great to get in a few classes before Bo arrives.

DeputyChairman - sorry, did we not mention that you're only allowed to come to our elite gatherings if you have an informed opinion on at least three topics of international economic significance from the day's papers

And yes, the raging hormones more than make up for the sobriety. We covered perineal massage and old English words for fanjo this week - very deep and serious. that both of these topics were raised by me.

DeputyChairman · 14/01/2009 21:48

(Reaches for Financial Times with weary sigh). I'll get revising Keynesian theory and its predictions for the future of the US motor industry if someone else can cover third world debt. But if you'd rather talk about rude bits, far be it for me to stand in anyone's way...

This is the yoga www.justbreatheyoga.co.uk/classes.html - I haven't been to a class yet but the lady was very nice on the phone.

Tupperwife · 15/01/2009 06:21

Having spent last night practicing inflating the birthpool, and being told that the head has engaged I'm more than happy to talk non pregnancy. Actually, pregnancy is fine, it's more the childbirth that I'm in denial concerned about!

Anyone around on Tuesday for Slumdog Millionnaire at the Picturehouse in Greenwich? There's a screening at 6.10, not sure if that's too early for everyone still at work.

There were two of us from the Railway at ante natal aqua on Tuesday morning waves to se8mum, I never realise how ungainly I am until I get in the pool . And my kicking, stretching, generally grumpy lump seems noticeably calmer afterwards. I don't know whether it's my endorphins after exercise, the music or if all the bouncing around just confuses it.

america · 15/01/2009 10:30

Oooh, antenatal aqua classes! I want to come too!!! I have one more week in the office before starting my maternity leave and would love to meet up with you. I'm in Greenwich/Deptford border so SE8 meet-ups would be fantastic!

se8mum · 15/01/2009 13:24

I really recommend the ante-natal water exercise class in Greenwich...I felt so relaxed and in a such good mood afterwards!
I also do yoga in Brockley, a very good class

daisyj · 15/01/2009 13:40

DeputyChairman -

I'd love to see Slumdog Millionaire, but supposed to be going with DH, and he already suspects I love MN more than I love him, so I think I'd better restrain myself.

I think we should make another Railway date now, though, before Tupperwife goes MIA. I can do Monday 26th or Thursday 29th - how about everyone else. TW is that too close to due date for you?

feb80 · 15/01/2009 13:57

Can't do 26th unfortunately but free on 29th. I promised Tupperwife we'd come prepared with hot towels next time!

Tupperwife and se8mum, do you drive to Arches for the antenatal aqua? I'm nowhere near mat leave yet so might go along to the Monday night sessions but I know what a nightmare parking is up Maze Hill. Any clues where I can put the car?

heverhoney1 · 15/01/2009 14:34

oh I might try the monday night class too. I am a member of greenwich leisure already.
Cant make this monday but next seems like a good idea

Jas28 · 16/01/2009 10:38

Am free on 29th if everyone is still up for meet up.

I went to Crook Log aqua-natal (Bexleyheath) last night and it was great, was trying to master kicking my legs under water whilst trying to do pelvic floor muscles! Did anyone know they advise pregnant women against doing breast stroke? something to do with your pelvis, anyway class was 7 until 7:45pm and cost £4.50. Facilities are good, plenty of parking and only took me 15mins from Blackheath village.

rosa7 · 19/01/2009 14:16

hi all! and welcome deputy!

I'm free on the 29th for a meet up.

Really looking forward to taking up the aqua classes at archers when i finish work in a few weeks.

jas28 was just doing some internet searches on the breast stroke debate - its an interesting one - seems to be a slight risk and that your body would tell you if you were straining your ligaments in your pelvis while swimming as it wouldn't feel so good. the best recommendation seems to be to mix it up, style's wise. Boo. I was enjoying not getting my hair wet and doing my gentle breast stroke!!

see you all soon!

rosa x

Tupperwife · 19/01/2009 14:47

I must have some kind of anatomical defect; even walking into the pool soaks all my hair, and there's a whole lot of it at the moment. I've always been jealous of those who glide through the water with perfectly coiffed hair while I flail around like a half drowned rat.

I'm sure Rosa is right, you'd feel it if breaststroke legs were doing anything weird to you. At aqua- aerobics, the Arches instructor gets pregnant ladies to do jumps with ankles together and knees wide when everyone else does tuck jumps so it can't be that bad!

I've explained to Mr Tupperwife that curry and pineapple will have to wait until after the 29th since I'm having a 'leaving pregnancy' drinks with the girls off the internet... he still thinks it's hilarious that we all meet in the pub

feb80 · 20/01/2009 12:36

After suggesting the 29th I've gone and thrown a spanner in the works by booking up my first session of pregnancy yoga! However, it's right behind Blackheath Station so if you go ahead with the next meet-up that evening I'll pop in and say hello afterwards (finishes 7.45pm). Got to give you a good send-off Tupperwife!

ellie732 · 20/01/2009 12:54

Hi there,
realise I'm popping up quite late in this thread, but live in Lewisham, due late april and would love to meet other mums-to-be in the area. Wondering if i could join in with you at some point!

cazinski · 20/01/2009 13:41

Heck, yeah Feb80, Jas and I are at our first yoga session that night-but not to worry, I'm sure we'll all be gasping for a lemonade after all that stretching. Go ahead with the 29th, and just save three places for us to pop in later on. And ellie732 -welcome! Come along, would be lovely to meet you. We're all very friendly, a bit silly and pregnant, you'll have a great evening x

Jas28 · 20/01/2009 14:40

Oh yes, didn't realise would be double booking! Will come in after but may need to eat something!

I thought it was a bit extreme about the breast stroke, think they just have to be so careful in these classes I suppose.

feb80 · 20/01/2009 15:34

I can highly recommend The Railway's fish finger sandwich which I had at the weekend..... mmmmm.....

america · 21/01/2009 09:54

I could do both 26th and 29th, would prefer 26th as have finally booked by antenatal class for the 29th. Around 7ish? Really looking forward to!

cazinski · 21/01/2009 11:31

So, which is it to be? The 26th or the 29th? We can still make the 29th, we're just round the corner at our yoga class, but will be popping round to the Railway straight after.

rosa7 · 21/01/2009 13:57

i'll be there either date - maybe it should be tupperwife's choice!

Tupperwife · 21/01/2009 14:33

[still happy to attend opening of envelope emoticon]

I'm off to see the Byzantium exhibition on Monday, so 29th will be better for me. 7ish sounds perfect.

Apparently I'm now 2/5 engaged, so it's settled even deeper since last week. I'll lay off the pineapple and bouncy ball until the 30th just in case!

BTW, we did 'bunny hops' at antenatal aqua yesterday, and there's nothing specific that is bad about them. Same advice from the teacher as ever, just do what's comfortable, you're not going to maintain Olympic fitness levels during pregnancy, and there's no point injuring yourself etc etc.

cazinski · 22/01/2009 21:55

Yes, no super hot vindaloos for you yet Tupperwife-we want to give you a good send off first!

ellie732 · 23/01/2009 16:22

Well, I'd love to come along for a bit on the 29th, if that's the date you're going for. I seem to be having trouble leaving work on time at the moment, as I get to 5 o'clock and then remember all the things I'm actually supposed to have done. Don't know if I can put this down to a "pregnancy brain", or whether that's just an excuse and I've always been like this. Anyway, point being I'll probably stagger in late! But still very much looking forward to meeting other local bump-bearers.

daisyj · 25/01/2009 11:28

Hi all. 29th still good for me. Can't do 26th, as have just started doing a yoga class in Soho on Mondays (better late than never!).

Mmmm - fishfinger sandwiches. Might have to join you, feb80.

Look forward to seeing everyone - I'll be there around 7.00
