Calling all pregnant ladies in Blackheath/Manor Park/Lew

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet AND being a mum ? this is my first!! Am only 15+3 weeks. I live in Blackheath / Lew and was wondering if there are any pregnancy groups that I can join / attend other than the NCT classes (I might be too early for those classes?). Just a gossip coffee on a saturday morning with people in the same boat would be nice!

I often catch the train from Blackheath St and wonder if there are any other 15 weekers on the platfrom just getting over morning sickness!!

Im very accessible to Manor Park too.

Would love to hear from anyone

Em

Congratulations!!!! Tupperwife, Tupperhubby and tupperbaby!!!

Another Railway meet up would be great, there will be so many of us soon that we will have to hire the whole place out.

Can we make it on a tues or Weds (I know you are at yoga on Mondays Daisy) because by the end of the week I am shattered and just wanna go home to me bed after work

elk4baby · 06/02/2009 10:33

Ellie732, thanks for the welcome. And I know what you mean saying that you prefer saying 'Blackheath Borders' . I usually say we're in Greenwich even though the postal code is SE8. We're actually right on the creek, so practically Greenwich, but get the lower council tax.

Just a quick question for all those still working: have you been able to arrange more flexible hours?
I was transferred to a different part of the city recently (with no option to say 'no', just faced with the fact with only 1 day notice ). And now my commute is twice as long and, on average, I spend 3.5 to 4 hours a day commuting (standing for most of the journey actually, both ways), which I'm starting to find really difficult (just over 30 weeks now).
I've requested to work from home a couple of days a week, which is perfectly possible and wouldn't interfere with the business at all. However, I was met with a bit of a harsh reaction from the HR, who said the best they can do is 1 day a week and they will not shorten my work day at all on other days(can only shift the start and end times a bit, but this would still not put me outside of rush hour).
Has anyone else been in the same situation? How do you cope with the commute?
I'd really appreciate your advice and support here.

Welcome elk4baby
I also live between Deptford and Greenwich and am havinga baby in April. Good luck and perhaps we can all meet soon

elk4baby · 06/02/2009 13:34

Hi se8mum, is this your first?

ToastnHoney · 06/02/2009 21:47

Tupperwife, wow, so excited for you, and so glad it all went well despite not being quite according to plan! Hope you are doing ok (and that the stitches aren't too painful).

Welcome elk4baby! I'm also due in April and living in Lewisham. So sorry to hear about your horrid commute (and HR people being so mean!), I've been finding the train in the mornings pretty horrible (and leaving a bit earlier or later doesn't seem to help either, rush hour lasts so long) but it's been better since I overcame my English reserve and started demanding a seat from people. They'll give you one immediately, do try it if you haven't already.

I'm up for another meetup too. What about Tues 24 Feb? (picks random date)

xx

heverhoney1 · 07/02/2009 09:02

Tuesday the 24th sounds great to me!

elk4baby · 09/02/2009 11:45

Thanks for the tip ToastnHoney. I don't quite feel right asking someone to give up their seat . Especially, if it's obvious that the someone in question is trying to look like he/she doesn't see me . Happens quite often on the tube - some guy would look up at me, look at my bump (which by this point is quite obvious) and bury his eyes in the paper or book or 'decide to sleep' :D, it's rather funny to watch actually.

The problem on the train is that normally I'm squashed by the door (I get on a station or two before London Bridge, so by the time it arrives the train is already packed), so there's no chance anyone (even if he wanted to) would be able to give me a seat .
For now, I think I'll stick with working from home one day a week and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, I'll just start mat leave early .

I'd also be ok with meeting on the 24th - what time are you thinking? Given that I'm still working, it would have to be quite late in the evening. Alternatively, if everyone's alright with it, we could meet on Wednesday (25th) evening (I won't be 2hours away). What do you think?

heverhoney1 · 09/02/2009 13:54

Hi Elk can I ask what part of the city you are working? There maybe a quieter route you havent thought about???

elk4baby · 09/02/2009 15:20

Hi heverhoney1, I'm working out in Hammersmith (near Barons Court station to be exact) and commuting from either Deptford or Greenwich mainline station.

se8mum · 09/02/2009 15:50

Elk, it's my first baby...commuting is horrible!
24 or 25 is good for me...anyone in Deptford or greenwich up for meeting there?

heverhoney1 · 09/02/2009 19:43

Hm had considered DLR into Tower Gateway then district line from there as you would get on further up the line at least you would have had hope of a seat. Just had a look and Tower Gateway is shut for refurb - bummer

rosa7 · 10/02/2009 10:14

hi all,

meet up dates are good for me, 24th or 25th.
greenwich or blackheath my pref...

when are we all due, and where?

lets get this list started!!

Rosa - March 23 - Kings

add yourself in!

p.s - this is only the 1st of my missions, once we get this sorted i'm straight onto the "local events for babies calendar!!"

elk4baby · 10/02/2009 10:38

heverhoney1, I have tried DLR-District through Bank - this takes the same time or even longer and doesn't really help, as the DLR is usually packed full in the mornings as well. I also tired DLR-Jubilee-District - Jubilee is suicide during rush hour and there's very little ventilation . I'll stick with mainline+District for now and see how it goes.

rosa7, I'd prefer Greenwich as well.
I'm due Apr11 - Portland, I think

se8mum · 10/02/2009 12:05

Hi all! Just adding myself to the list, with my virtually non-existent bump...my baby really is the baby of the group! I want some more to join, just so that I'm not the last

I can do either of those dates, just let me know and Greenwich, my old haunt has a better selection of drinking houses in my opinion-but happy to follow the masses...or the bumps!

By the way, has Tupperboy Baby been named yet??

helpivegottogivebirth · 10/02/2009 20:59

I'm almost 24 weeks now - just hit the 'baby viable stage'

Tupperwife · 11/02/2009 13:29

Aaaaah, you guys make me nostalgic for my bump. All I've really got to show now are a few stretch marks and a numb left hand. And obviously a baby

24th in Greenwich would suit me down to the ground; what about Richard 1st or the Union on Royal Hill? Good club sandwiches at Richard 1st...

Tupperboy is Samuel, we're still pondering a middle name, it's just as well you get 6 weeks to register the birth!

BumpMakesTwoAndABit · 11/02/2009 13:45

Hi, may I join you?

I've been keeping an eye on this thread for a while but not been able to make any of your meetings. However, it looks like I can't make the next one either, if it's on Tues 24 rather than Weds 25, so I might as well introduce myself anyway!

I'm 18w pregnant with #1... I'm due 13 July, hoping for a home birth as I have a deep mistrust of hospitals. I'd love to meet others in the area. I go to the antenatal yoga at the Arches on a Thurs lunchtime (work from home on Thursdays ), thinking about the antenatal aquaerobics class on a Tues but I teach from 1-9pm so that's a bit trickier. Next week's half-term though... We're also booked in for NCT classes at Mycaenae House from 18 May - 6 July (prob too late for all of you - and possibly for us too!).

Cazinski - I don't have a bump yet either Quite a few colleagues have accused me of making this pregnancy up!

cazinski · 11/02/2009 13:55

Hey BumpMakesTwoAndABit! (wow thats a long username to write!)

I'll be with you on the NCT classes, me and the hubby are also booked in for those dates, although we'll have to meet up before then.
I'm just thinking about coming along to the Arches for Thursday lunch yoga as I also work from home and seem to have more spare hours during the day rather than the evenings as I'm on cooking duty etc etc. I have been to a yoga class in Blackheath with some of the other girls, but last week I couldn't make it and this week is also looking dodgy.
I might pop along to the Arches and do a bit of stretching-so I'll look out for another with a tiny bump. I may get a few funny looks though if I start asking people if they are called BumpMakesTwoAndABit!

And Tuppermummy-love the name Samuel! Hope he's being a good boy, can't wait to see some photos of him or even get a cuddle in person xx

rosa7 · 11/02/2009 14:00

Yay! Everyone add yourselves to the list!
We're doing well!

Great ideas re: The Union or Richard 1st Tupperwife!

And congrats again on the birth of little Samuel! Ahhhhh!!!

Cazinski how did your scan go?????

and helpi'vegottagiveborth did you resist the lure of knowing the sex of your baby??

xx rosa

BumpMakesTwoAndABit · 11/02/2009 14:03

It was going to be BumpMakesThree - but the bump's not big enough to count Actually I ran out of ideas - all my normal forum usernames have been taken already, and they're not even pregnancy-related!

If you do come tomorrow, best to arrive early. I didn't make last week, since the snow meant I had to rearrange work, but the week before all places were taken. I run out of steam by the evening - no chance of me doing anything then...

Howdy all,

Glad everyone is getting on OK. Would like to try and make it along on the 24th but it's a bit of a mission for me from the other side of Blackheath; The Railway was better tbh. Daisyj, perhaps we can share a cab home if you're planning on going?

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and we are expecting a little girl!
