Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jambers99 · 09/10/2008 14:01

Wow, so many babies born already and I'm still at work! Last day today though, so looking forward to putting my feet up tomorrow and catching up on everyone's news on this thread.

pepperrabbit · 09/10/2008 14:31

Afternoon all, just back from midwife (39+6 today) all ok though she's reluctant to let me go too late but can't override consultant, so I have to wait for hospital check up next week. Grrrrr.
hansnava TMI ALERT I asked about the heavy discharge and she said it's sometimes called a "cervical weep", where you almost think you must have wet yourself or your waters gone. It's nothing to worry about and normally happens "right at the end of pregnancy" no timescales tho!
Hope that helps - 39+6 is right at the end in my book....

ajm200 · 09/10/2008 17:18

Hi everyone.. just checked up on CSWS's birth thread. I can't believe she's still waiting. It's going to be the longest inducton in history at this rate.

Waiting for DH to get home so that we can rearrange the living and dining rooms to make room for my birthing pool. I've got a real nesting thing going today but can't do much with all the energy so DH is being driven mad. Add to that my sudden insatiable sugar craving and he's having to deal with a hyperactive, sugar fueled hormonal mess.. poor guy.

Been getting low level backache and cramps all day and am torn between trying to strenghen them and giving my tummy muscles time to recover. Can definately recommend arnica.. the purple bruising is now yellowy/green and no longer sore to touch. Definately taking it in labour and afterwards.

belgo · 09/10/2008 17:27

Glad your bruising is getting better ajm. I went through the nesting phase about two or three weeks ago, and now I've passed my due date the house is a mess again.

ajm200 · 09/10/2008 17:57

Our house will be a mess again by morning. I've two of the messiest males on the planet living here...

Lets hope your baby decides to come out soon, you must be getting fed up now.

Do you have to bf every 3 hours? Like if they sleep longer than that is it ok? or should I wake him up to feed? And if I'm feeling breasts are very full and he's not asking for food, is it ok to express then?

star6 · 09/10/2008 18:28

Thank you so much everyone for the encouragement - I really appreciate it! I will keep trying. Things got better after DH took the baby for about an hour and I laid in bed... couldn't sleep, but just relaxing was helpful. He gave him a bottle of my expressed milk... i know, I know... that will ruin the latch but I just felt at end of my rope and needed a small break.. i know i'm a bad mom for allowing that Quinlan will have to have bottles of my expressed milk when I go back to work in december but just a couple a day...

Pidge · 09/10/2008 18:46

Ladies - thank you so much for letting me interlope on your October thread after all the September folk went and gave birth to their babies before me .

I finally have my own gorgeous little bundle - Arthur, born today 12.20pm at home, 8lb 14oz. I'll post a birth story here when I get time.

Meanwhile good luck to the rest of you waiting, and happy, happy times to those of you already with babies.

ajm200 · 09/10/2008 19:18

Star, you can feed Quinlan on demand so if he sleeps past 3 hours it isn't a problem but as you have so much discomfort, I agree that expressing a little milk off to relieve pressure is a good idea. As he is only little don't let him go too long between feeds definately not more than 6 hrs

You are doing so well.

emkay · 09/10/2008 19:35

You're not a bad mom for anything star, you're doing really well for persisting - it is so uncomfortable at this point. We can all only do the best we can and feeling guilty is the most unhelpful emotion!

So long as MWs or health visitors aren't questioning Quinlan's weight gain then I would definitely let him feed on demand and sleep on as ajm says. Pump expressing a little will relieve the pressure but hand expressing might be even better because it is less likely to stimulate your breasts to produce even more. Someone else suggested soaking with hot flannels in a bath which should help.

I could only ever rest properly when my LO was physically out of the building, otherwise my ears were constantly tuned to the little noises downstairs. Can DH make it a regular morning and afternoon thing to take her for a walk for an hour so you can get some real rest?

07mumstheword · 09/10/2008 20:17

Just popping in to say Freya Mae was born on Weds 8th Oct at 12.08pm weighing in at 7lb 12oz. I had gas & Air + Pethadine delivered baby but didn't deliver placenta so had to go to surgery to have it manually removed under spinal so went through all that pain and had to have spinal anyway.

Still all is well and we got home this afternoon. I was 11 days early so sorry to all those ladies good luck to those of you still in waiting and congrats for any other births that I may have missed whilst I was away.

ajm200 · 09/10/2008 20:22

Congratulations pidge and mumstheword

jenwa · 09/10/2008 20:24

Hi all

My laptop been really pants and freezing all the time so a pain to even try to come on here!

Congrats to hedgepig and snowymum on your new arrivals. Hope all is well and babies are doing well.

We should update stats soon so CSWS wont have to worry about that when she returns!!! , if I get chance I will atttempt to do tomorrow when mother takes DD out , just DH wants computer tonight again too!

Saw MW today, baby appears to have moved into my side potentially meaning could go back to back so need to get on my hands and knees! Had really bad back pains which could be why but also had DD's 3rd b'day yest so had a party for her and been cleaning tidying before and after it so that could also be the reason! This baby is such a wriggler though I am sure it has moved back or will move back!
I am 38+ 3 today and am happy for baby to arrive now as achey, tired etc although am wondering how I am going to cope with a change of routine

star your DS is soooo lovely. I hope that the bf is ok and you are not to stressed or worried. Remember there is alot of support and you can only do as much as possible. No one would think bad of you if you just could not do it and formula milk is full of the right nutrients. Just see how you go and you appear to be giving it your best shot. Hopefully it will work out for ou

bethoo at you and already at it again! Must be new partner syndrome I had 3rd degree tear with DD so there was NO WAY I would have contemplated any of that!! I bet your chuffed your tummy contracted back so quick, all be it the pain though! I hope mine does, have stretch marks and am hoping they will go , bio oiling every day!!!!

CSWS hoping all going well

jenwa · 09/10/2008 20:27

07mumstheword Congrats, how nice and a lovely name. Not sure that I am that impressed as you were due same date as me please send me labour vibes Sorry you had a difficult time with placenta after the birth, not at all what you want.

SmudgeyDoodle · 09/10/2008 20:40

Congrats Pidge and 07MTW. Both of you thought things were going on so I'm really pleased that it all came to something and you've both got beautiful babies now. Jenwa, you take it easy, it sounds like you've been having a busy time. AJM I hope you've got the birthing pool set up now. We're planning on putting up the cot in our room over the weekend but that's not so necessary as your pool. We're also planning to buy a new camera over the weekend as ours is not reliable any more. We've decided which one so if anything happens DH can just rush out and get it! DH out at a wine tasting tonight so I hope he's taking it easy. Star, like others have said, you're doing a great job. DS did sometimes go longer than 3hours and like others have said, as long as he's putting on weight and has some alert times then just feed on demand. Don't worry too much about DS having bottles. You might want to express to keep boobs more comfy and also if you want to give sore boob a chance to recover, that might help. For a while with DS, I fed him on one side and expressed on the other as nip was just too sore.

SmudgeyDoodle · 09/10/2008 21:19

Jenwa - I thought I'd take opportunity of DH being out and me not being arsed to do any cleaning to update stats. Hope you don't mind. Probably not done a very good job so hope it works. Please feel free to add details, correct all mistakes and generally sort it out. CSWS we miss you

Honeymoonmummy · 09/10/2008 22:24

Oh my god, I've not been on here for about 5 days and have missed so many births!! And you've doubled the number of pages!!!

I cant possibly read it all but congrats to all x

I finish work tomorrow

Right, I'm off to get some toast, see you all soon!!

usuallytooshytochat · 09/10/2008 23:33

pistachio to answer re sweep - I was 40 + 6 yesterday and I decided to go for it as it is such a low impact way to get things going - probably why it hasn't worked although MW did say to me 60% of women go into labour within 72 hours of the sweep. I never know what to make of those kinds of stats - they seem vague to me. I also def feel better physically and emotionally than I did a month ago (it may be just because dp is off work, so I get lots of day sleeps )
emkay - the sweep wasn't as painful or even uncomfortable as I expected - just breath through it and try to relax. MW will try to get a finger inside your cervix and move it around a bit to stimulate hormones. (I think protaglandins the same ones that are in sperm -sorry if tmi!) She told me she could feel the baby's head, which was cute, but a bit wierd too - again prob TMI
I know I've written an essay - but this was the first proper MW appt I've had practically since booking in. They've all been with doctors in between. MWs are great.
just wondering star have you posted in breast and bottle feeding - there are some really good bf experts like tiktok on MN if you are struggling - I hope you don't give up, bf can be such a lovely thing to do, even though it doesn't always seem so at the start.

usuallytooshytochat · 09/10/2008 23:34

maybe I should change my name now? I think I'm over it

star6 · 10/10/2008 08:31

Thanks everyone - I really like the idea of expressing one side and feeding on the other. He's feeding for about 45 minutes on just one side each time!

quick question - when you store breast milk in the refrigerator, I know it can last 4-5 days. It's been in there one day and has conglomerated a bit on the sides and is a funny colour - is that normal or does that mean it has gone off?

emkay · 10/10/2008 09:20

Happy due date pepperrabbit!

No sweep today as expected because my midwife phoned yesterday to say she was off this weekend and didn't want me to go into labour! So she's going to do it on Monday. I would quite like to go into labour anyway but there are no signs of anything happening in that department.

Not sure about the breast milk star - there will be both hind (fattier) and fore (thinner) milk within one feed so it could just be that it has separated but will be perfectly fine after a shake. Try out the BF threads to see if anyone has any firm advice.

Aubergenie · 10/10/2008 09:23

Congratulations Pidge and Mumstheword!

Pistachio - I begged the MW for a sweep last week when I was 40 + 3 because I was due to be induced the next day. She wasn't very optimistic but I did go into labour that evening, so I'd say it's worth a go (although I did bounce on the ball for ages, then have a really hot curry), and I second Usuallytooshy that it's a bit uncomfortable but not too bad.

Star - Have you got sore nipples? I got some lansinoh cream yesterday as one of mine was a bit cracked - it's really helped. Also, if you're engorged and sore a cold cabbage leaf inside your bra works wonders, I've discovered! Instant relief. Nor sure about storing the milk, sorry.

Good luck to those still desperately trying to encourage their LOs along. x
