More congrats to all the new arrivals

Had hospital appt this morning, all okay apart from them asking why I had the appointment with them and not community mw (er, because your colleague said I had to..?!)

Anyway, I have had bad spd from about 24wks (in both sacro-iliac joints rather than around the front) which means that I cannot lie down for more than about an hour at a time - sleeping upright on the sofa, niiice!

Also, at my growth scan at 36wks there was concern about babe's size. So this coupled with the spd means that the consultant has booked me in for induction next Weds at 40+3... (unless anything happens in the meantime!)

I'm actually okay with this, even though I was pretty against it to start with. I think I just want the pelvic pain to stop!

ninja · 23/09/2008 13:46

I'm off for a few hours and suddenly there's loads of messages!!

Another birth announcemnt for you - I had a girl (name tba) at 3.21am this morning. I can't believe I actually managed to do it!!

post more later x

Hello everyone, still here, still snotty. Dd being a horror today, just crying at everything. Ended up giving her a tv lunch for the first time coz she was sitting in her highchair balling her eyes out shoving her food away and I knew she was hungry and that her favourite tv show would calm her down. She has a superb memory though so very much hope she doesn't ask for the tv at dinner tonight!
I had some proper BH last night for the first time which was nice, feels like my body has remembered what to do, and knows its nearly time. Dh has decided that saturday would be the best day for the baby to come, thereby 'adding' two days to his paternity leave! Also coz I don't want him playing an away game of football on my due date, so he figures I might as well be in labour to make it worth missing the game!

Going back to bed now to give me the energy to cope with dd this afternoon.

MunkiMom · 23/09/2008 14:10

congrats impa & Ninja!!!!

i luv it when new birth announcements and stories just pop up from no where!

ninja · 23/09/2008 14:22

Sorry - midwife came.

Birth Story:

As I posted here has a show Sun morning and then mild contractions every 20 mins through Sunday night. I was all geared up for everything to start then they stopped.

Irregular but stronger contractions started in the middle of the day and carried on until 11ish - mainly between 10 mins and an hour apart - so not established, but couldn't talk through them.

Typically when I tried to go to bed they got a bit stronger and more frequent (8 - 10 mins) and I put on the TENS machine that I can't rate highly enough.

About 1ish the pains were 5 mins apart and getting sore, I was trying to persuade DH that it might be time to phone, but decided to wait for a bit. The the TENS machine stopped working and I realised how much good it was doing and we decided to go and phone midwife at 1.30am

She arrived 2am by which point TENS machine back on and of course contactions a bit further apart. She examined me - only 4.5cm and talked about possible courses of action, but would see how it progressed. I think she gave me a bit of a sweep whikle she was inside which definitely speeded things up a bit as suddenly I was having a contraction that felt like 3 together!!

They were fast and furious then and I was getting a bit weepy and decided to try the pool. This meant I had to take off my TENS (not good!) and the water didn't help, I wanted to be stood up AND I WANTED GAS AND AIR!!). I was persuaded to stay in the pool for 10 15 mins and I started to feel a pressure in bum, but didn't really say anything.

Finally decided to get out of pool, put TENS back on (bliss!). And persuaded mw that I was feeling the urge to push a bit and really did want gas and air! I don't think anyone really believed that I was that close but my records say the second stage was 6 mins (I know it was longer than that - just hadn't mentioned it!!). Then my beautiful daughter was born, completely perfect.

I have to say, despite all the pain, the 'I can't do its' the 'I've changed my mind' ... it was a privilige to actually push my baby out after having a ventouse delivery last time (although I think I woke the neighbourhood doing so).

I had to have the injection for the 3rd stage 'cos of dodgy blood results and ended up with 3 stiches and a graze - graze SORE for weeing!!

Then I was bf my alert daughter, who really seemed to know what to do , and has been doing regularly since - then to my own bed.

DD(1) was woken by me this morning to see her new sister who she thinks is very cute. She went off to school but I imagine can't wait to get home to give her a cuddle.

I feel great - tired and a little achy but fine.

Good luck to all you others who've got this to come. I just want to say to you all that you CAN do this and the result's worth what you have to go through.

Thanks if you managed to read all this!! x

Just doing ipanemagirl

Pidge · 23/09/2008 14:48

Huge congrats to ninja and ipanamagirl.

Leonie - brilliant news. All fingers and toes crossed for some baby action for you before they need to intervene.

So I think the 'happy to stay pregnant longer' crew are: wombforonemore, splishsplosh, jennyL and me!! Any one else!!?

I keep thinking of things we haven't done yet, like, err, think up any names that we like!

On the organised front though, I have just picked up my birth pool from the previous people on my homebirth team.

Never got round to my bolognese sauce or knitting today, but I did manage a swim which was heavenly. Might try to do the same tomorrow as I had so much more energy after 30 minutes in the water than I did yesterday which was spent chasing after dd1.

MunkiMom · 23/09/2008 14:58

once upon a time i joined this thread and the arrivals list was a mere 3-4 mums full!
now its taking over!

and the babies-due list is slowly dwindling down...so weird but yet so very interesting that a baby of born (almost) everyday from this thread!!

nearly there, girls!

plusonemore · 23/09/2008 15:00

hmmm I'm undecided in the 'happy to stay pg' front. I know i will miss being pregnant once I'm not, and we're not planning on having any more, but... not sure how much more I can do! I think so long as I dont go too overdue thats fine. Perhaps we should call the next thread

Due Sept 08: We're staying put!

Pidge a swim sounds good, think I might go for one tomorrow. Maybe I'm not sleeping cos I havent been active enough

MunkiMom · 23/09/2008 15:02

the 'happy to stay pregnant longer' crew are: wombforonemore, splishsplosh, jennyL, pidge, and me!!

((although i am looking forward to tomorrows internal to hear of the progress and to know what's to happen next))

i suspect i just might have this boy by the weekend and still without a name...
so dont feel a worry about that one, pidge.

LittleConnie · 23/09/2008 15:07

Well congrats to all the new mums and apologies for jumping the queue but... birth announcement!

Anya Rachel was born at 2.55am on Monday 22nd September, 7lbs 9. Had a night of painful BH on Saturday, then dh suggested a session of rumpy pumpy late on Sunday morning. IMMEDIATELY afterwards I had a huge show, waters started leaking and contractions started. Managed to stay at home with TENS machine all day... beating dh at scrabble, going for walks and doing hypnobirthing breathing (thank you starlight!) By 10.30pm I was ready to head into the birth centre... and we got there to find we were the 3rd to arrive within half an hour, and there weren't enough midwives to cover us all. Apparently I was looking so calm that they were about to send me home as they didn't believe I could be in active labour... but when they checked I was 5cm! We were told we'd have to be transferred up to the labour ward and were about to leave when one of the other labouring mums asked for an epidural and had to be sent upstairs... a last minute reprieve for us . I got into the pool at midnight and immediately felt huge relief from the water, and with the help of some gas and air, lovely massage and more deep breathing Anya was born in the pool at 2.55am and I caught her myself . She emerged looking up at us and her eyes were wide open as she came up through the water to meet us - calm and alert as anything. dh was in floods. I had some 2nd degree tearing but after the stitching she latched on beautifully and has been feeding and sleeping well. The midwives were all fantastic. Got home this morning and now completely and utterly in love with her .

DebitheScot · 23/09/2008 15:09

the arrivals list is getting long. Congratulations to all the recent ones.

All of the babies on the list have different names (there's a Katherine and a Katie so close but not the same unless Katie is officially Katherine) and the names are all very different types of names too.
Gracie we nearly called ds2 Lewis, couldn't decide between Andrew and Lewis and eventually went for Andrew with Lewis as his middle name.

MunkiMom · 23/09/2008 15:15

ok so after posting that last bit (staying put) i sit here with vicious heartburn, again! ((or should i say: still?))

and then i think further about the 3 hours of sleep i got last night. and then it goes further to thinking about the many many trips to the loo, the desire to sleep on my belly....

...and the other part of me is secretly a little scared of having 2 children (baby & toddler), and incredibly sad that i wont have time for my number One little man, or have the same luv for them both...its all so scary!!

so perhaps im really truly on the fence here.
heheh but still excited about tomorrow!

jennylindinha · 23/09/2008 15:29

Ooh, huge congrats to Ninja, Ipanema and LittleConnie!!! I'm in tears again with the lovely birth stories, aww... Lovely names too, I have a neice called Anya and she's a sweetie.

No agreements on names here either - I don't think we'll be able to decide for ages, the poor baby!

cranmorefifi · 23/09/2008 15:49

wow! congrats all on the birth stories. Ninja - had no idea you were so close! Thank you for the positive story too - have to say that I'm not certain I can do it (not much choice now though have I???).

Had a 2nd sweep today and (drumroll) am 2cm dilated. Hurray!!! Of course could come to nothing and am booked in for a 3rd sweep on Thursday but I finally feel like things might start to happen. Hurray!

ninja · 23/09/2008 15:51

wow littleconnie what a lovely story - sounds like you stayed fantastically calm

foxytocin I went to bed so missed your advise about posting the letters recorded, I managed to post them this morning and sent them just 1st class.
However, I rang the midwife at 9am this morning and advised her of what I'd done and told her I would definately not be going into hospital unless a medical emergency dictated I should.
She was fine, said I was well within my rights and advised 'off the record' that when labour starts if staff try to pursuade me to go to hospital due to a shortage all I have to do is flatly refuse and they will have to send someone to attend to me...which is exactly what it said on the link you sent me.
So, I'm happy again.
Feeling (fingers crossed), that something is gonna happen soon, feeling lots of pressure in my back passage and some lower back pain, mild period pains coming and going round the front and I've pooed 3 times already today (sorry TMI), lets get this show on the road!!
Congratulations to all you new mommies, I'm so loving your birth stories.
