Congratulations Charitygirl, nellyonthetelly, Mellabella, Slinkie, Izzybiz, Mamamufin & Notsoslimnow, Debs and Gracie - wow, so many now.
Good luck Ninja, sounds like things are moving along, and Becaroo hopefully nature will take its course before Thursday.

Pidge - I'm with you on the holding back vibes. The electrician hopes to finish before Friday - he'd better do, as he's off on holiday again!. On the other hand, the kitchen is being delivered Wednesday, and somehow I have to clear enough space to store it till it's fitted....so shouldn't be wasting my time on the computer. But having a toddler I'm out and about with her every day so I need some rest! I'm getting lots of niggly acxhes, pains, period pains, back ache, pressure in my bum and exhaustion...spent 4 hours cleaning yesterday as well before going to the park for the afternoon. All I want is my bed, not another mammoth clearing up

splishsplosh · 22/09/2008 20:02

Congrats to Lilypink too

dobbins · 22/09/2008 20:10

Treadmillmum- Is this true- will they insist on an induction befor you are ready? I would also much rather things happened naturally. I agree with someone one posted earlier on today- I think France gives an estimated due date one week later than ours (so 41 weeks) and some coutries don't give any due date at all.

mum2bagain- sex is supposed to work- same stuff in sperm as in the stuff they use to induce you!

izzybiz · 22/09/2008 20:14

Hi guys, I'm home, with my big beautiful baby boy, whom we have finally decided to name George!

Birth story!!

I had a sweep on saturday morning, MW found I was 2cm, but cervix was still firm.
Walked into town did some sitting on ball etc through the day, was just getting some strong period type pains.

So, evening comes and DH and DS have gone to collect a pizza for us all, its about 9:45pm, I was sitting on my side on the sofa when I felt and heard! a pop!

I stood up and realised my water had broken, walked up to the loo and was soaking!

Dh walked through the front door to find me stood at the bottom of the stairs with a towel wrapped around me like a nappy!

Phoned labour ward and was asked how often were my contractions, at this point I hadn't really had any, so she told me to come up when they were 3 mins apart

I explained I had a fast birth last time so she said to come straight up.

Got to labour ward, was examined and still only 2cm but thinned right out, contractions started coming very quickly and very quickly built up in strength.

By 1am I was getting hysterical, and was sick quite a bit, shaking etc, and I knew what was coming!

Started to push, at witch point I agreed to G&A! As George was being born it had to be the most horrendous pain ever! And I have had 2 natural deliveries before!!

I was making so much noise but couldn't stop myself, as he was born on to my chest we realised the size of him, but he was blue and silent, the cord had been round his neck and he was a bit shocked.

Dh and the MW rubbed him with a towel till he started to cry. So at 1.17 am George was born, about 3 hours and 15 mins from water breaking! He only missed his due date by an hour and 18 mins!!

When they weighed him we were so shocked, even the MW couldn't beleive it and weighed him again! 4840gms 10lb 10oz!

I didn't even have a graze! Think Id better start those pelvic floor exercises!

He is absolutely lovely, although he is big he has such a vulnerable little face, my heart just melts every time I look at him!

Ds and DD are very pleased with him, and Dh very proud.
I'm quite proud to hold the record so far for the size!

Will try and add some photos now and will put his name on the list.
Good luck to everyone still waiting, you know its worth it!.xx

mum2bagain

sex to bring on labour - well I saw the midwife 2 days before my due date and she was suprised that I did not seem close to labour starting only 4/5 engaged. She suggested sex to get things going - told dh when he got home which he was thrilled with - whisked me off to bed and 24 hours later I'm in labour!!

I did eat half a pineapple too but have read you have to eat 7 in one sitting for it to have an effect so def think the sex works

congratulations all of you with the babies. VERY jealous now. am 4 days overdue and no signs that's going to change. Think I will still be pregnant at Xmas.

Good luck becaroo - looks like you'll win the race!

Pidge · 22/09/2008 21:12

Wombfor1more - that almost exactly describes how I've felt today too. Got in quite a panic that the baby might actually arrive, and I need at least another week!! Anyway, I feel more normal now, phew.

Splishsplosh - hooray - let's start a 'keep the babies IN' club! Our kitchen is nearly there - just worksurfaces, tiling, and a bit of rebuilding the back wall. It is so tantalisingly close to being done, it would be great to get it sorted pre-baby.

Congrats on the new babies

Becaroo - sounds VERY promising!!

Debs75 · 22/09/2008 21:22

Thanks everyone. Someone has stuck me at the 17th and she was born on the 19th, can someone change it.

Hopefully that was quite dramatic and poor you having torn, but he was a big baby. Docs had me panicking that mine would top 9 lbs or more and I was pretty huge, (all that water) so I couldn't quite believe it when they said under 8 lbs, smaller then our first 2.

As many of you know i had gestational dibetes which is why the inducing but they got their wire crossed and didn't check her bm until 8 hours old, it should of been 3, by that time it was 1.2 which was getting to be dangerously low so spent the next 4 hours tickling her every 30 mins and expressing breast milk into her mouth, she had swallowed loads of mucus so was a bit uninterested. There went my plans to go home that day but her health was way too important to mess around with.
By dinnertime (11hours old) she was perking up and more responsive and I was just sat gazing at her. It still feels weird that I wanted to take her home that early dd was 4 days old and ds was 2 days old when I plucked up the courage to go back home.

Now she is doing really well my milk is in and she is feeding absolutely loads and sleeping ok, I won't jinx that one I am tired and I just know I will be up for hours. Managed to get out and about today. Still no name yet but started to think about one.

Can I have the lnk for the postnatal group so I can share my baby blues andf highs on there.

biglips · 22/09/2008 21:29

hey all!

had a baby girl - Kiah (pronounced as KI-AH and not Kee-ah)Helen, 9lb 3.5oz, on 21st...it was a very slow labour. but eventually did it!. got a 2nd degree tear (6 stitches and yes it was painful but im so happy to have a natural birth) {grin]

will pop back soon. Still trying to tackle the breastfeeding but prob will got for expressing as im ssooo sensitive.

congrats to all the new mummy's - I really cant keep up with you all !!!!

Been having bh and period type pains all evening but have been down this road before so am off to bed!

BTW, a question for the ladies who have had sweeps - erm...did it make you flatulent? Have been breaking wind in a rather alarming fashion all evening!!!!!

sagecat · 22/09/2008 22:22

Congratulations (lets see if i can remember) Debs75, Biglips, Gracie and anyone i've left out . These birth stories are bringing a tear to my eye these days.

Do you know, i've stopped thinking of time until my EDD but thinking about it in terms how long it could be until my last possible time to be induced date (so 3 weeks time) - I think i'm trying to stop myself being disappointed when i become overdue.

Spent a lovely day with my mum at Loch Lomond today, sunny and warm and had a lovely tea out - it was lovely to just get away from decorating and housework

TreadmillMom · 22/09/2008 23:38

Nice one foxytocin, that link was very, very informative, thank you so much, I've just written 3 letters, using the template (one of which I was able to email) to my LSA Midwifery Office, Chief Executive of Local Health Authority and Acting Director of Maternity Services, which I will be posting Wednesday as have to wait for DH to print off at work.
Do you think I should call my MW tomorrow and inform her that these letters are being sent so she can have a quiet word with her boss?

foxytocin · 23/09/2008 00:25

when you send the letters, send them recorded.

I have put a copy of all the letters I have sent in with my green notes but haven't shown them to my midwife. I have discussed the shortage issue with the lead midwife of my community team but that was before writing it. Because it is so late, you may want to show your mw a copy of the letter and then maybe discuss it with her. Be prepared to stand your ground as you may find the guilt thing being brought in about what about the other women who are in labour in hosp when you are asking for a whole mw to yourself. Erm, not your problem is it? That is the hospital's.

As far as inductions go, say you would like your care to be managed. You are willing to have a doppler scan of your placenta at certain intervals to review its function till 42 wks to review its function and after 42 wks every day or every other day if it pleases them/ or rather, you.

One bf counsellor on a list serv I am a member of pointed out tonight that term is actually 36+ - 43 wks which is important to respect because intervention in the normal birthing process almost always interferes in some way with initiation and establishment of breastfeeding.

foxytocin · 23/09/2008 00:28

actually, you can request to speak to her boss directly. why take the chance of wires getting crossed, you being misinterpreted, deliberately or not. You have the right to a meeting with a Supervisor of Midwives/Head of Midwifery and/or the lead midwife of a community team. Take along a 'friend' if possible who is actually your witness to what has been said.

plusonemore · 23/09/2008 03:38

cant sleep cant sleep cant sleep

hurt my neck putting on ds shoes yesterday and that is hurting me, also got terrible indegestion and the usual wide awake feeling the minute i go to bed. Its soooooo annoying. In a few weeks I know I will be desparate for any minute of sleep so why cant I do lots now???? Or at least be in labour so I have something to do???!!! Anyone else awake?

plusonemore · 23/09/2008 03:41
