Sorry about everyone's bad nights and horrible aches and pains.

Meryym - I already do lots of batch cooking! We go to the supermarket once a month and I batch cook for a few weeks in advance. As a SAHM with two little ones I find it's the only way not to spend most of my life cooking and to live on the very tight budget we have. I heartily recommend it. I would like to get a bigger freezer but I'm not sure we should be plugging more things into the electricity supply with fuel costs as they are.

mum2becks · 04/09/2008 11:04

Sorry to hear everyone had such bad nights last night I actually slept a bit better as it was cooler last night but dont think it will last as dd has been saying this morning that her teeth hurt which I didnt understand until looked in her mouth and found that her big back molars are just starting to come through!! Just as you think teething is over the last teeth are on their way!!!!

Hope all the midwife appts go ok today (cant remember who but have read that a few of you have appts today!)

mum2becks · 04/09/2008 11:08

Pinky what kind of things do you batch cook? I havent done it before but wanting to start now so I have a supply of meals but not really sure what freezes well! Also what containers do you freeze them in? Sorry if that sounds a bit of a stupid question but I wonder is it better to freeze it in a container that you can also put in oven to re-heat it?

ruthosaurus · 04/09/2008 11:17

Hi all,

Computer at work playing up so I was originally going to dive into the conversations about 2 hours ago! Since then, they have grown somewhat, but just wanted to add LOADS of hugs to Barbareeba and to say "burn the witch" - I forgot my notes and they just tutted, asked qs about blood group, allergies etc and wrote notes down on insert sheet with strict instructions to staple it into my real notes when I got home. (Last time I brought my notes, the mw spilt coffee all over them so now they look totally minging and stained and no-one is ever going to believe it wasn't me...)

Obv, it is much more reasonable to send a crying pregnant woman on a 2 hour round trip following a nasty fall than to spend an extra 5 mins getting some medical details from her... for you! Hormones are ace - I have lots of if anyone needs some spare. Last night I cooked a curry and then had a hissy fit - at myself, for f's sakes - for forgetting to shut the kitchen door and thus making the whole house smell spicy as I find it hard to sleep in a room that smells of curry. DH rescued me with tissues, cushions, hugs and flapjack, bless that man.

Is it a full moon? I was up 5 times last night and had really weird dreams, although could have been the curry...

Pulled a muscle in my bump while sobbing hysterically last night, time to get a grip . Arse sounds worse, though, Hana.

I MUST get into the whole batch cooking thing, but first I need to defrost the freezer as it keeps popping open. I know for a fact that some of the stuff in there is from before the flood, though (Sheffield last year, not Noah!) and is probably better disposed of by the bomb disposal squad. I mostly do curry for batches (surprise) but any other suggestions are highly welcome as have rotten nasty heartburn!

Off to play at being a grownup with a job until lunchtime ? have fun!

PS Vbab Please can you do the north/middle get together thread ? ace idea! If you feel better ? sounds like you?re having a nasty time there. Hugs.

ceebee74 · 04/09/2008 11:30

Lol at the full moon theory - looking at the top right hand corner of MN, it would appear not

Vbab - Ruthosaurus is right - if you could do a meet-up thread, that would be fab. I could do with knowing the date really as the 3 weeks I am only working 2 days, I have told my boss I am flexible as to what those 2 days are but if I have something planned, I can work around it

I had a clearout and binned all my useful containers in a pregnant moment, so at present I freeze things in bags but I have to admit it does look completely disgusting . Especially pasta sauce and stock. Apologies to anyone feeling a bit sick...

[Looks up at top right of page as realisation dawns] Oh, is THAT what the moon things is? I thought it was just pretty.

Oblomov · 04/09/2008 11:53

I am so sorry to hear of all of you with bad SPD - Daisy and Dozy 9 Thye sound like a right pair, don't they). Like MerryM, I often forget Daisy has SPD becasue she always sounds so cheery.

And for thiose that have been up with unwell/not sleeping children - the same Daisy, DSozy and Lady Buzz.

Poor all of you.

We have a freezer in the shed. And a fridge /freezer aswell - but that is not working - weel the freezer bit. I asked dh for a new one. I must, I must start batch cooking lasagne, mashed potatoe, etc etc.
And I must sort out baby clothes form garage. Ds is going to sil's. And my mum said if you do these things this week, it will allow you to enjoy those days next week, and do nice things - i.e. go to matalan for big pants, pack hospital bag etc. I have already booked pedicure and eyelash tint.

But I can not get motivated. Come on Ob, get GOING. PMA PMA - my dh is the PMA king - he should be married to ChocO

I am not weeing in the night. Dh slept with me all night last night, for th first time in ages. He normally resorts to the sofa bed, because apparently my pregnancy snoring is horendous. I think he exagerates . Actually, I suspect he is probably not
I don't normally snore, so I don't know why I am so bad ??

Sparkle was it you who said you tried 5 different anti sickness tablets before you found a good one ? Tell me more, please.

Oblomov · 04/09/2008 11:58

Ceebee, I never noticed that about th full moon. Ha ha.

Like ruthosaurus, i had very wierd dreams last night - losing ds in China, kissing a woman (!!) and having sex with 2 different people - all int he same dream. Very odd.

Sympathy/laughing at Hana, who has pulled a muscle in her bottom. Sorry Hana. Tee hee.

ChocOrange05 · 04/09/2008 12:12

Obs 2 people at the same time?!!?

ChocOrange05 · 04/09/2008 12:14

PS - I'm glad you were brave enough to say you laughed at Hana's muscle pull - I wasn't going to admit that it also got a smile out of me - but I do hope it gets better soon Hana!!

ruthosaurus · 04/09/2008 12:21

Obs, you fruity jezebel, you! Hope that's not how Hana pulled that muscle [runs away before anyone can throw anything] . Only kidding.

Does anyone know if heartburn can make you have a lump-in-the-throat (like when you're feeling tearful) sort of feeling? It's really annoying me and makes breathing harder when I'm lying down.

I've had a sudden realisation that this is how the process of turning into my grandma will begin, talking about ailments. .

PInkyminkyohnooo · 04/09/2008 12:43

Oh dear we are a decrepit bunch! I feel soo out of puff the whole time. DS keeps doing impressions of me and you'd think it was grannie!

Batch cooking- yes pretty much what Hana sais, except I make up dishes- moussaka, cottage pie etc etc. I use those glass pyrex dishes with plastic lids- you can defrost in the m/wave then bung in the oven. I also buts lots of chops etc. and freeze them -separated into the right number for a meal in freezer bags. Basic casseroles are good too- you can jazz them up when you defrost them. Oyster cuts of chicken are very versatile.

I get mikl from the milkman and fruit and veg from local produce delivery each week. Bread- I used to batch bake and freeze but mum bought us a breadmaker for xmas so I use that.
Didn't know we had a recipe thread- where is it?

DM & Ceebee your blankets will be in the post tomorrow. Sorry for long wait.

Have some lovely new fabrics- will post on profile later.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/09/2008 12:47

that I manage to sound so cheery all the time. My DH and DCs would disagree

MW went well; still breech (oooh, you gotta love that heartburn), measuring bang on for dates, BP 100/80 (from 100/60) but it means nothing to me anyway, NAD in my urine dip, and baby's heartbeat 130.....so clean bill of health apart from not being able to get on and off the couch very well.

I've rescheduled the physio till Monday though as I'm far too tired to drive safely. Hoping DD goes down for another nap so I can too, but I doubt she will. At the minute she is bringing me the contents of our recycling bin; cardboard, paper, milk cartons and empty coke cans....nice!

Gotta get some housework done.

Ouch to all the aches and pains, poorly LOs and general malaise. This is the worst bit of pregnancy for me...it always seems to drag in as well.

ChocOrange05 · 04/09/2008 12:50

Ruth thats exactly how my heartburn is all the time! Its like you have to burp or be sick to clear it - its gross!

Also - does anyone know if heartburn gets worse as you get bigger? Mine seems to be worse recently and I'm hoping its just a temporary thing.

Oblomov · 04/09/2008 12:53

No, not 2 at the same time. I aint that kinda girrl. No REALLY !

Daisy, please good god woman, quit the housework idea. You are a saint as it is. Please don't do it. Promise me. I can be very strict you know. Ob puts her school mistress hat on (then remembers that won't help her angel white image on the 2 at the same time front)

MonkeyMargot · 04/09/2008 12:54

Hello all! Sorry to hear your woes of aches and pains. PMSL at hana pulling muscle in her arse....!
I do lots of batch cooking to - good old Delia is a failsafe for these -e.g. her boeuf bourgignonne freezes really well in portions; ragu sauce; lasagne. Also chick-pea curry; soups. Like pinky I buy e.g. sausages/chicken pieces in bulk from butcher and freeze in smaller portions.

Sorry you've got it too, Choc, but kind or relieved it is heartburn - I didn't want to bother the GP with it (cos I'm a hypochondria and have "frequenmt. And yes, it is totally gross. I think it gets worse .

Btw, SO jealous of your nursery...

Oh god, one of my colleagues is just opening a really smelly ready meal. Gmph. [opens window, backs out of room holding hand over mouth]. Laters.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/09/2008 13:06

I have to do some. I save a lot of it for DH, but he is home tonight and I haven't lifted a finger since he left on Tuesday so need to make it look like I've at least been keeping on top of things.

I particularly enjoy shuffling around the place on my hands and knees as it's easier (and less uncomfortabel) than bending up and down all the time. DD thinks it's a game and follows me doing the same thing

ceebee74 · 04/09/2008 13:25

Daisy - lol at you looking like you have done some housework whilst DH is away. I was exactly the same last night - running round, filling the dishwasher, putting 3 days worth of milk bottles out and so on before he arrived home from his trip to Germany

Pinky - ooh can't wait for my blanket now(notice, it is my blanket, not the babys ) - am so excited!!

Obs - you saucy minx With DS I had those kind of dreams all the time but have not this time round which is a shame - only excitement I get!

Sharon13 · 04/09/2008 13:43

OMG you guys do love to talk . Joined the other thread as a newbie last night and been redirected here to an amazing 5 pages of posts....dont know if I will be able to keep up with you all!!

Anyway I'm due first baby on 21st November and as you can imagine as a first time mum have absolutely no clue what this will mean to my life...although I suspect my shoe & bag buying fetish might be on hold for a while, although I have seen some fab changing bags

anyway will try to keep up and check in regularly and might even catch up on all the chat I've missed so far

PInkyminkyohnooo · 04/09/2008 14:00

Hi Sharon

LOl at you two- ceebee and lacks. That's the effect my mother has on me. I start running around doing hamster like tidying (I think it's called displacement activivty?) when I know she's coming.
lacks I daren't go around on all fours as these two tend to climb onto me when I do!
