New thread ladies

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LouiseSJ · 03/09/2008 15:18

Pinkali - I don't know how to do links . If you go to the topic list and go to "mumsnet stuff" and then "meet ups" and then "lincoln mums" you will find it. There are a few of us who meet now and again. It has been quiet on that thread recently. Possibly because some of the ladies have school age children and have probably been busy during the school holidays.

LouiseSJ · 03/09/2008 15:22

Barbareebaa - What horrible day you're having. I only takes my notes if I am going away overnight or longer. They are not designed to fit in an average handbag! But I am wondering now if I should carry them everywhere. You've given something else to think about!

suiledonn · 03/09/2008 15:24

Barbareeba - you poor thing. The midwife sounds like a right witch. Here(Ireland) we don't have notes as such, just a little card that records weight, blood pressure, no. of weeks etc. and I only bring it to my appointments. I'm sure I would lose it otherwise. In an emergency I'm not sure what relevance a blood pressure and weight recorded last month would have anyway!
At least you got checked out and everything is ok. It must have been very scary.

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 15:32

Barb, I am so sorry to hear what happened. That is outrageous. I am all for formaliites, but really any woman needs to be checked first. Ridiculous. Talk about unsympathetic.
Did you see my suggestions earlier - my MW at my anti d injection last week (being 28 weeks) said carry notes at all times. YEAH ? Well ds and I have just nipped to sainsburys and I didn't take them . SINNER. Oh for god's sake, we have to be realistic here. But maybe we should all take this on board and carry our notes a bit more, from now on.

thomasina1 · 03/09/2008 15:35

Barb, poor you, that sounds awful. If it's any consolation hopefully the midwives on the ward won't be the same ones as the ones in the AN clinic. I had that concern with UCH and asked and apparently they are different jobs - the ward midwives work shifts whereas the AN ones just do 9-5 so it's a different team.

barbareebaa · 03/09/2008 15:36

Thanks for the sympathy
I read my post back and think I sound like a bit of a nightmare for the midwives

suiledonn the card thing sounds much more practical. I am the same as LouiseSJ and don't have a handbag big enough!! And would probably lose them anyway!!

Hi LouiseSJ by the way! I don't think I've said hello yet!

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 15:36

And DOZY, sorry to hear about ds's meltdown. Lets hope it is just a one off today. As you said, starting school soon.
My ds was really naughty a few weeks ago, for ages. And kicked me. Do you remember ? But he has been a total poppet in the last couple of weeks. I am still looking forward to him starting school though.

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 15:36

Welcome LouiseSJ.

Oblomov · 03/09/2008 15:39

Thomasina, is that true ? About it being different on An and on the actual wards ? At Kings I am sure that is not the case. Last time, I was taken care of, by the 'Ruskin Midwifes team'. And at delivery and on the wards it was the same Ruskin mw's that came to check on me and ds. I am sure that this is what is happening this time too.

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 15:47

agree fundal height re size of baby not an exact science. Neither are scans it has to be said. My sis was tols at a scan at 36 weeks that her DS was measuring about 9.5lbs and they expected her to deliver a 10lbs plus baby.........he was 7lbs 13 ozs

dozy, sorry you are having a bad day. Your choice of boys names are the two that are top of our list. We are reserving judgement until we meet him, but Findlay (Finn) is my current favourite

DD is being a right ole grump. For some reason I thought that taking the car to school and walking the last 100 yards and into the play ground was a good idea . DD had other ideas and has screamed and yelled her way back to the car as I wouldn't let her walk in the direction she wanted to go.......back to the playground. I'm not a fan of reins, but I think they will be necessary.

barbareebaa · 03/09/2008 15:51

obs - I think you're right - it's so not practical to carry them at all times. maybe I should take them to work though?

Well I've learnt that I should definitely keep my phone topped up now and have some money on me at all times!!

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 15:55

I hadn't refreshed my screen from earlier and have missed loads of posts.

barbareeba, I hope you're allright and have calmed down a bit. You'll probably be a bit sore tomorrow; I'd look on it as an excuse to be off work for a day or two

The MW was a cow and you should report her. We can't carry our notes with us everywhere we go on the off chance, especially not at this stage of pregnancy; different if you only had a few weeks to go. Your health and that of the baby should have been the priority.

And it does beggar belief somewhat that in this day and age it isn't put into the computer system so that different HCPs can pull up your details at the touch of a button.

In Scotland, we had a card thing as well, and only got given our notes towards the end of the pregnancy; after 36 weeks I think.

thomasina1 · 03/09/2008 15:56

I'm not carrying my notes around but have made sure DH knows where to find them.

coolkat · 03/09/2008 15:57

Just 'registering' on our new thread, really tired tonight but got to take DD to swimming lessons....MWAHHHH

On the subject of names our little one s going to be Rebecca Mae if she was a he it was Thomas Micheal.

My other favorites are Jessica, Eleanor and for boy Elliot and Jack.

Barbareebaa sounds like you have had a horrible day, me thinks nice bath and bar of chocolate may be in order tonight

Catch up more later X

Pinkali37 · 03/09/2008 16:06

BArbs - Curse that lady! Surely she knows we are emotional wrecks? I hope you are feeling a little better now but at least your baby is fine {grin] x

ceebee74 · 03/09/2008 16:44

Barbs - sorry for your day - what a crappy time you had. And the MW does seem particularly 'jobsworth' - surely the health of a baby is more important than whether someone has their notes fgs. I certainly haven't been carrying them anywhere but maybe I should keep them in the car as I tend to have that most places I go.

Louise - you have made me feel better. Also been for my 28 week appointment this afternoon and my fundal height is 29 cm so MW said that they will have to keep an eye on it but it appears not to actually mean much so am not worried.

Baby is head down apparently which means he has done a 180 degree turn (as he was breech when I had my last scan about 6 weeks ago) and I didn't feel a thing Everything else is absolutely fine

Pinkali37 · 03/09/2008 17:00

Re fundal heights, when I was at the hospital when I needed to go in for assessment, the MW there did a proper measurement i.e. she actually felt where my pubic bone was and measured up, I measure 28.5cm which was perfect as I was 28 + 4, however this Monday when I saw my own MW and I was 29 + 3 I measured 28cm but she didn't find my bone, she just kind of estimated and hovered over what she thought was the right area.

I woudln't worry re the measurements they are not all that accurate and plus measuring 1 cm over really could just be a flaw on the MW not your tummy and baby!!

barbareebaa · 03/09/2008 17:06

Thanks guys!!
Lacks - she did look my details up on the computer in the end (just remembered) Why she couldn't have just done that in the first place?!!
ooh - please thank your dh (and thanks to you) for hard work on secret stork Am looking forward to going shopping!!

All good here now - luckily dh bought a 5 pack of dairymilk yesterday. has worked wonders!!! And being able to rant to you lovely ladies too

Coolkat love your names!! We are thinking William James for our lo (after dh grandad)

twinklingfairy · 03/09/2008 17:12

Oh that sounds awful Barb what a nasty lady. I am not surprised you are nervous about going back to birth there.
Glad she relented but how awful that she only did so cos of tears. And to consider sending you on a 2 hour round trip after having a fall!!
I have not been given any card, only my A4 notes which come in a plastic folder thingy, but they only ever look at one half, what are all those sticker things, why must I cart them around too?
Not that I do or did with DD for that matter.

Hmm, Finlay means fair warrior or battle hero? Well that would work for my wee stick babs. Wonder what DH will think of it.
He is struck on Max at the mo, Maximus means the greatest, I read last night, so it might work

Tallulah makes me think of the Bugsy Malone film. Does anyone remember it? Jodie Foster when she was just a child singing,' My name is Tallulah, ya know what I mean.....'
Brilliant film, but I could not use the name, cos I would forever be singing the song!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/09/2008 17:26

Hi al fab thread title! Thank you ladybuzz

Thank you for the lovely suggestions for m names. I will run them by DH who tends to just say nooo to all my suggestions. DS suggested Fred..

Cat has kidney issues, as suspected there is an underlying infection that needs to have the course of AB's then see what vet suggects next..I can see this costing an arm and a leg.

Sorry to hear of you difficult day, DM.Barbs what a horrible experience for you! MW sounds like a right bossy britches.

I carry my notes most times, because they are in the bottom of the pram, but I can be certain that the one time I will need them will be when I don't have them.

Lacks- this stork thing- we don't let on who has sent the thing, is that right? Sorry, I don't have much experience of these things. Does that mean I won't get away with making something? I will have to shop.. shame..

Grannie bought DS his school clothes today he looks far too smart for a 3 year old boy.

twinklingfairy · 03/09/2008 17:32

Ooh, can I add another 'm' name?
Miriam, it means the longed for one and I think it is just lovely.
Yes, ok, it is mine
Also Mirran, pos Mirrin, that is how it is pronounced anyway. I liked that one, but a bit too close to mine I think.
She was in that Scottish Film with Mel Gibson, the love he married in secret and then her throat was cut to try to get him to show himself?
Brave Heart, thats the one! The name just went completely for a moment! Preggy brain, moi?
Yup!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/09/2008 17:37

I really like Miriram- I will run it by DH..it got an it's alright.. which is quite positive compared to some responses he's given

twinklingfairy · 03/09/2008 17:45

Oh yeay! But which one did you run by him?
Mirran or Miriam, you typed miriram

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/09/2008 17:51

That's because I can't type
Miriam- that's you, isn't it? I really like it. I like Mathilda too but DH says noo.
Martha is nice but there are loads round here.
DD's middle name is Mary, so the variations on that are kind of out.

I wouldn't mind, but he never has his own suggestions.

Does anyone elses' baby keep doing these sort of funky dancing wiggles? It's very odd.
