Hi Ilana, good to hear things are going well for you. I can't believe I've made it to 5weeks breastfeeding this time, I'm so proud of myself.

Quick question for those cosleeping and BFing at the moment, does your DP sleep with you too? How do you have room? Do you make him swap sides when you need to switch boobs? Does he sleep through the feeds, winding and frequent random grotty babiness or is he suffering from lack of sleep too?

Buckets Just read your post, haven't got any further yet! Toby is cosleeping with us but I don't feed in the bed - I have a rocking chair in the bedroom as both me and him fall asleep otherwise and he doesn't take enough. We have a king size bed which is why we have enough space! Dh sleeps fine although he doesn't really like doing it as he is nervous of rolling onto Toby. However, I've said I am not settling him into the moses basket after a feed as am tired enough without doing that too and if he wants him in there he can do the settling.......needless to say he chose the co-sleeping

Buckets as you know I'm not BF but we are cosleeping and I'm feeding Reese in the bed (i keep a cooler with premade bottles beside the bed every night). Our bed's a king and from what I can tell DH snores through all the feedings without issue. We did the same with DD1. The only difference this time is I have a laundry basket in between DH & I that Reese "sleeps in". I use to always worry about DD1 rolling around or us rolling over her....the laundry basket fixed that problem. Guess it's more or less like using a Moses Basket...i just never got around to getting one.

Buckets, We have a king size bed with our cot attached with bungy ropes to my side of the bed, one side removed, so the cot gives us extra space on my side of the bed for DS.

When I nurse lying down I do roll DS and me over, to nurse him on the other side. Or else I sit up and read whilst nursing.

DH wears earplugs and sleeps though most of the night noise. Or there is the spare room if the noise gets too bad.

Apologies for not being on here for a while - congratulations on all the new babies. V exciting. I am loving being a mum, but am a bit tired.

Just a quick question - I restarted bleeding again about 3.5 weeks after Emmeline's birth and it has been going for about 5 days now. Fresh blood, not too heavy. Should I be worried or should I just assume it's a period? I am breast feeding exclusively.... anyone else get this?

Ataraxis - I saw your post on the other thread. i will be seeing mw again on thursady, so I will decide then what to do. See how I feel at the time. really.

if you are bf exclusively it is unlikely to be your period but could be so be careful!

Co-sleeping: we have a superking size bed so space is not a problem. I feed laying down on either side. We have a bedrail up on my side for safety.

Bleeding - I bled on and off for 6 weeks. I checked with a midwife and she said this was normal.

Oof...am feeling a bit achy today. Think my problems with sitting comfortably are leading to backache when I feed Thankfully things seem to be healing up down there, so roll on the day when I can park my backside without ten minutes of wincing negotiations first.

We're not co-sleeping as I'm just too nervous - DS is in a moses basket by the side of the bed, but thankfully (at present anyway) he seems quite happy to settle back there once he's good and sleepy.

This will make me sound completely emo, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed by my feelings for DS. Sometimes when I look down at him I get these waves of sadness and anxiety because he's so vulnerable and perfect and soft - what if something happens to him? Or I'll look at him and think "how could anyone want to hurt one of these?" and it makes me feel helpless. It's a bit much really.

Oh I knew I'd regret turning down the free kingsized bed we were offered earlier this year! But I just love having the bed in the bay window and a king wouldn't fit LOL.
I've got a rocking chair in the room too but find it so hard to peel myself out of bed! Think DH is quite happy in Kurt's room though, as long as there's noise etc in ours.

on all the news but congrats for all the new arrivals on the stats list and, if you don't mind TS, one more to add - Jamie Robert was born on Friday 5th September just before 1am weighing 8lb 15 oz. Induction started Wednesday morning with labour established by midday Thursday. A very calm experience up until the last half an hour when there was concern that the baby had turned back to back so I was taken to theatre for an ECS but was fortunately given the chance for one last push with forceps assistance - this was enough to act as final encouragement and Jamie promptly arrived!

Jamie's beautiful but hungry so whilst he appears to have been born an expert at breastfeeding, he is having to be supplemented with formula until my milk comes in.

Evening all. Sorry I haven't been around for a while - many congratulations to those who've had babies! And to those who are surviving earlier babies and the last days of pregnancy...

One reason for for absence - apart from the usual chaos of four-week-old babydom - is that we've discovered that Marianne has a heart defect which will need surgery. They can't do anything until she's 6 months old so we are clearly going to have some anxious times - this weekend has been a bit of a mess trying to get our heads round it. She looks so perfect it's hard to take it all in - and so small the thought of such a major operation is truly terrifying. So far the only symptom is slow weight gain despite bf being pretty well established.

Anyway sorry for the me me me post but it's good to get it off my chest. Any stories of healthy grown ups who had this kind of thing fixed when they were tiny would be very welcome...

Pertolete, it must be so hard for you to take all of this on board, especially when, as you say, she is so perfect in every way. We'll all be thinking of you and you must of course come on here and vent whenever you need to. The board can be a great place to escape to and think things through on and it means we can head back into real life a little more able for what it has to throw at us.

Randomly, your lovely girl's travails made me think of Marianne in Sense and Sensibility who gives everyone a turn with a sudden illness and then recovers to be the heroine she deserves to be ...

Cyteen, again Anne Enright is kind of wonderful on all of those overwhelming feelings in the first weeks. I think you'd really like her book (using VG's innovative reading while feeding techniques of course).

pertelote - how very scary here am i being teary over nothing and your girl has real needs going on. if it's any consolation, i used to work in a children's hospital (med secretary) + saw many casenotes of LOs who'd had heart defects corrected at 6 months + had v straightforward recoveries

Pertelote what a dreadful shock for you, how hard for you to bear. It's so unbearable to think of them suffering in any way, how many thousand times one would prefer to suffer oneself. I do know of the niece of a friend, I think she had a hole in her heart (I am not sure exactly) but she had multiple operations while very small - before 2 - and has grown up into a healthy young teenager.

Sibh thank you for your lovely comment about my little boy! I claim credit for having produced a handsome baby (smug!) but I have to hand over credit to my friend who is a brilliant photographer and who took that photo. I feel a bit funny about having it up there so I will take it down in a few days but am glad for the thread members to see it.

Re. cosleeping I flip the baby from side to side of me for night feeds so sometimes he's in between me and DP and sometimes on the side.

Re. Anne Enright, couldn't agree more! I read Making Babies while pregnant & actually I heard her reading from her new book of stories while I was pregnant too, she was absolutely fantastic, gave a really gripping reading (sometimes one finds oneself drifting about halfway through - not with her). I remember her saying she wrote the book while the baby slept in the next room - and it's in tiny chunks you can snatch in the minutes between feeds and sleeps, or, if skilled, over the baby's glugging face! She is so human, and intelligent, and funny, it's a complete antidote to po-faced "textbook' guides and the horrible Diary of a Mummy "hilarious romp through motherhood" type shite.

thanks for all the posts re dd, just a quick update to say it now appears she was ill and we hadn't realised - she had a high temp and is now better - bad mother and father)on the up side we had 16 children over for her birthday party yesterday and it all went really well despite crappy weather...

pertelote dh says 1 in a 1000 babies are born with a heart defect and is most common congenital defect - majority are fine and completely healed by treatment - if that helps

Sazzles I'd forgotten about the Mr. Ed moment. You there's never a dull moment around the Twilight house. DD1 reminded us all day that she wasn't going to try climbing in the truck window EVER AGAIN. Hopefully that will hold true and keep her from trying roof surfing during her teenage years.

It's 7pm and both DCs are out cold. We attended an amazingly fun ice cream social then went for a spagetti dinner. I guess it was all just too much for them. I'm going to hurry and get things ready for tomorrow and join there snoozefest.

oh dear, had a massive meltdown this evening feeling really overwhelmed with it all and tired out from feeding - am getting terrible backache from not being able to sit properly, plus DS has been incredibly windy and keeps throwing his food back up, then crying for more. poor DP ended up with DS on one arm and me on the other, both bawling our eyes out
