Cyteen - {{{{HUGS}}}} for you and DS! sadly can offer no advice as to what to do for wind though as I still don't have a LO.

cyteen · 08/09/2008 05:47

thanks ann am feeling a little better now, despite being sat on sofa with sleeping baby. i do wind him after each feed and most of the time he's alright, just now + again he seems to get a bad bout. of course, once he's thrown up all that lovely calorie-rich milk he starts yelling for more, but ends up taking less from each breast so it's not as satisfying, which means he's still hungry, which means he won't settle, which means he gets overtired and grizzly...DP had to let him cry himself to sleep earlier so i could get some kip.

DS is already an Infacol addict you should see his little mouth open for the dropper, like a baby bird seeing its mum with a worm.

AnnVan · 08/09/2008 05:53

Great image, I can just picture the scene! Good that you're feeling a bit better though.

miamla · 08/09/2008 05:55

morning, busy on here!

AnnVan · 08/09/2008 06:07

Good morning Miamla - cup of tea?? Not Yorkshire gold though, we're down to just PG tips in this house at the moment

miamla · 08/09/2008 06:11

sorry, got two hands now so i can post properly.my DS does the same as yours cyteen. have you tried a different postition to feed in? it may help DS's wind but just as importantly you need to sit comfortably without hurting your back. I'm not going to lecture you but you're going to be more use to DS if you can pick him up and cuddle him. Your back is really really important, please don't put it under extra strain (said by someone who learnt the hard way when i took my back for granted).
Also, DP was trying to get me to let DS cry it out. I managed to last 2mins. Please do a bit of investigating yourself but from what I read its not recommended for babies so young. (although i do admit i was looking for proof against leaving him)
But, the good news is that he's sleeping now, well done for settling him. I found that DS is more upset if I am so everyone ends up in a vicious emotional circle.
what about you? have you managed to get any sleep? can you try putting him down now?

apologies for my ramblings, I'm trying to offer advice and am sorry if it came across harshly

miamla · 08/09/2008 06:12

thanks for offer ann but i'll stick to my own tea, we do have yorkshire left!
how you feeling? have you managed to sleep at all?

AnnVan · 08/09/2008 06:24

No haven't slept tonight Miamla just had the restless legs. I've been doing better for the last few days though. I'm ok, have decided to take the sleep whenever I can get it, and try not to stress myself out about it.

Oh, poss TMI, but I think I now have piles had been so happy that I seemed to have escaped these, but sadly have been having some bleeding when going to the loo. What does everyone recommend??

cyteen · 08/09/2008 06:24

hi miamla no need to apologise, all advice is welcome. re. posture, you are right of course and i think things will improve once my bastard stitches/piles heal up properly; at the moment sitting comfortably is just not possible, so I end up either sitting awkwardly and bent out of shape or sitting straight up in agony from my stitches and worrying about them pulling [moan moan] Have posted on the feeding board for a bit of advice about staying relaxed, anyway.

Holdwise, I mostly use the classic across the body hold but often do the rugby ball on the right hand side as think that boob is bigger or more supplied - Joe has trouble getting on on the right, but never on the left. He will feed lying down as well which is nice for both of us - I should probably be doing that more.

I agree re. the crying it out, it's not something we want to make a habit of , but last night he had got to the point where he was too tired to be settled or stay awake, and not actually hungry, just upset. Plus I was upset and all tapped out as far as milk goes, so it was a bit of an evil born of necessity really. I did get some sleep earlier in the evening and will be going straight back to bed shortly, believe me!

How are things with you and your LO?

cyteen · 08/09/2008 06:28

AnnVan commiserations on the piles. I believe TS recommends applying Vaseline before pooing and wiping gently with those wet wipe toilet paper things afterwards (rather than using dry paper). I can vouch for the usefulness of both of these Drink lots of water and maintain a good diet, and don't be afraid to demand Anusol from your local chemist!

miamla · 08/09/2008 06:37

hi, just saw you'd started a thread in bf section, good idea, the ladies on there are great.
are you taking any pain meds for stitches/piles? i found taking paracetomol (argh i can never spell that!) really helped. what mat pads are you using? the sainsbury own make ones are really cushioned and made it so much nicer to sit down with a piles/stitches combo. so much so that i was sitting cross legged on the floor at day 2(much to mil's bemusement!). Best way to completely get rid of piles is use Scheriproct. only available through your gp but my, is it good! i can now proudly claim after years (probably about 3) of living with piles (previous meds i was on for my back caused problems) i am now free of them!
oh and people told me but i ignored them... rest as much as you possibly can and sleep when Joseph sleeps. i did far too much in the first few weeks and regretted it when i had flu like symptoms (i was severly told off by mw!)

things here are great but think DS must be going through a growth spurt. he completely drained me of milk twice yesterday and then got upset when he couldnt get more out. he's fast asleep now so i should really listen to my own advice and sleep myself.
one last bit of advice..it really does get easier as the weeks go on!

miamla · 08/09/2008 06:40

ann, well done on accepting sleep issue. sounds like your head is in a better place now which is going to help no end. as for the piles, what cyteen said!

night night (or should that be morning morning!), going to try and get a bit more sleep before T's next mealtime

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/09/2008 08:20

Pertelote so sorry to here your news, I bet that came as a huge shock.
The success rates sound good.
Thinking of you all.

Annvan sorry to here about the piles, no advice as I just suffered with it. But wont hesitate to get treament if they return.

Sazzles sounds like you had a good weekend, bless Emma for sleeping through all that.

Cheerfulvicky How are you?
Hope things are looking better for you.

Ts at your dd stuck in window, but you do tell the story very funny.
I dont know the story about the horse, that does sound interesting.

Well Marcus slept 10 pm while 3am fed for ten minutes, then slept till 6am.
Couldnt believe it, I bet it was just a one off as he did feed yesterday almost constantly from around 3pm till 10pm and was awake most of that time. So was probably very full and very tired.
I am however glad he was awake as was starting to worry that he wasnt very alert.

Still only one dirty nappy a day for last 4/5 days and yesterday was just like yellow water. Any ideas???

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/09/2008 08:24

Cyteen sorry to here you had a rough day, I understand how awkward sitting is. When I had dd had lots of stitches, sore bum, and suffer with a bad back. So aswell as having a nightmare with cracked bleeding nipples last struggling to bf I understand how you are feeling.

It is so frustrating when you just want to get on with being a mum.

Someone suggested sitting on/in an inflatable swim ring to ease the discomfort.

minkersmum · 08/09/2008 08:42

Can I ask all of those who have had or have piles a horrible question?? Sorry in advance but i need to ask.

Are they hard?? Sorry!!

Ive had piles a few times with each of my pregnancies and also in between times too, this time tho its much worse. TMI alert.. there is much more on the outside visible, like a big fat butter bean and its hard and so painful to touch. I know from reading up it means it is thrombolised but just wondered if this is quite common. Been agony past two days! As if being at term in pregnancy isn't uncomfortable enough??!

miamla · 08/09/2008 08:45

yup, sounds like how mine was!

minkersmum · 08/09/2008 08:48

Thanks was beginning to wonder if i had the anus of an eighty year old as only remember my grannie having similar! Phew! Thanks.

Lcy · 08/09/2008 09:21

Hi everyone

Sorry i havent caught up yet bt wanted to say hi and congratulations on all the new babies.

My little girl was born on the 25th August - 15 days late. Unfortunately i was induced which led to a cascade of intervention. I laboured for 20 hours mostly on a drip and being electronically monitored (still sitting on birth ball with gas and air). However i never dialated past 7 cms and the baby turned back to back and didnt have her chin tucked in. I ended up having an emergency c-section. It was very distressing because they gave me an epidural that went to high up and i felt like i was suffocating and my blood pressure dropped so i kept fainting . However my beautiful girl was born healthy and happy at 9 lbs and 8 ozs. Unfortunately they punctured the dura in my spinal column during the epidural so i had leaking cerebro-spinal fluid which caused a severe head and back ache everytime i stood up. So i had to spend a week in hospital with little one whilst it fixed itself. During this time they gave me medication that was contraindicated with bfeeding despite knowing full well i was feeding her myself- so baby had to be monitored and fed formula all night. That really was it for me, as bfeeding was the only thing that was going well and i couldnt get out of bed to care for her in any other way. We both spent the night in hysterics.

Anyway - i have felt really traumatised since the birth which is really why i didn't post till now. I had hoped for a home birth but it couldnt of been more different. My doula came into hospital with us and she was fantastic and really provided a huge amount of emotional support for myself and DH - i would def recommend!

On a positive note my Dh has really bonded with LO as he has had to provide the majority of care for her, we are both well now, and the breast feeding is going really well and she is now over 10lbs. I love her to pieces and when i look at her i know it was all worth it

minkersmum · 08/09/2008 09:37

Congratualtions Lcy on the birth of your little one.

Isn't it amazing how such a tiny little person can make all the trauma worth while. It'll only get better from here.

Well done you!

dizzydixies · 08/09/2008 09:59

Lcy congratulations on your darling girl does she have a name yet? Am sorry you had such a hard time but glad it seems to have settled

cyteen glad you're feeling a bit better. Can only echo miamla on the taking care of your back, Joe is only going to get heavier and your're going to be lifting him for the next year on and off

do you have a V shaped pillow or a long one? I use that to wrap round me then stuff pillows down the back and rest Dylan on a pillow on top of the side of the full length one to feed rugby style - if that makes ANY sense!! Keep going with it all, you're doing just great

sazz delighted to have you back - glad you enjoyed your weekend, your success story may just encourage me to try a day away myself - maybe!!!

TS an ice cream social?! for us savages in the north you need to explain so I can start these up over here

pertelote what a fright for you all. I have no great advice or words of wisdon other than listen to pf her dh knows what he is talking about and please let us know if there is anything we can do - thinking of you all

VG well done on the smugness - he really IS beautiful!!! I'm very lucky to have a photographer friend too and his wife is the lady who helps with my girls - we've just asked her to be dylan's godmother - so he takes photos of the girls all the time, they're all over the house

ok ladies, as the resident shift piles expert here we go again!!!

  1. water water water - the more you drink the softer the poop
  2. lactalose - if you're sore passing it because its too hard you'll only hurt yourself more so take some for a wee while
  3. only go to the toilet when you need to - do not sit there for extended lengths of time and NO straining
  4. when on the toilet sit with your back straight and feet up on a stool/step etc
  5. you are on matty benefits so get yourself off to the docs for supository and cream prescriptions so you can just phone up for repeat ones - then throw them up there like sweeties - not once a day, all the time please!!!

I had terrible ones after dd1 and dd2 - worse than farking stitches I used to sit and bite a towel when going to the toilet and the sweat would be pouring off me through sheer worry and distress, I then used to come downstairs and cry as I was in so much pain and couldn't sit for AGES - please DO not ignore them and hope they will go away on their own as it is NOT worth getting to that stage

ok, onto happier things, all well here, sun is shining for a wee while anyway and two eldest are at school/nursery

off to feed dylan again and have a lazy morning ignoring the mountain of housework lol

poppy if the weather is like this tomorrow it will be great but I'll not hold my breath!! will speak to you later to make some plans!

TwilightSurfer · 08/09/2008 10:21

Reese is having an off night, feeding often and only a few oz at a time. AARRRGGHHHH

Goodness LCY. Glad things are settling now. {{{{HUGS}}}} I stalled at 8cm before my emCS so can sympathize.

Dizzy our ice cream social was preschool sponsored and held at a local park so all the families in our small church school could get to know each other. It was really pretty simple: loads of ice cream with every imaginable topping. The kids were allowed to "make their own"...quite a big deal for two, three, four & five year olds. It was wonderful. DD1 played princess with all her girlfriends on the grand gazibo (boys were NOT allowed). Then they would run to the rose garden and gather rose petals (to throw at the boys). Everyone (including DH) ate their weight in ice cream!!

must burp lo.........

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 08/09/2008 10:31

she doesn't want to burp!!!!!!!!!!

No1, I walked into my living room a few months back and found a horse standing on my front porch looking in at me through my glass door. Seems my neighbors "pets" got out. It's quite an odd find on a boring Wednesday morning in the summer. DD1 found it entertaining because we got to take them back to their home. I grew up on a farm...my family raced Appaloosa show horses so the encounter wasn't far from normal for me but my DH was . Actually my aunt rode up until a week before giving birth.....NOT ME! That's just crazy.

finally a burp....back to bed now

OP posts:
no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/09/2008 10:58

Lol I bet that was hilarious.
Wow I adore appaloosa would love one.
Dh sensibly suggested I wait till dcs are in school at least.

How wonderful to have been brought up around these.
I am very
My mum has taken on my Horse now, however he is wasted with her. At 16 3 she is too scared to get on him, as she is only about 5ft 3 she has since got 4 more, we all moan at her because she doesnt really have the time for them all either.
I go up when I can but obviously not rode for just under a year now.
My mum is desperate for my help with the two new youngsters.

dizzydixies · 08/09/2008 11:02

no1 horses?!?!? I need to bend your ear please!!

dd1 started her riding lessons and doing very well but am not wanting to fork out for muckboots/jodhpurs etc until were absolutely sure shes sticking at it

with my cousin buying the farm/equestrian centre they wouldn't be wasted but still money tight so where to go or online for cheapy but decent gear please?!?!?

gigglegirl · 08/09/2008 11:20

morning!!

Hope all is well with everyone - we were up between 1am and 5am again last night and are now feeding falling asleep and waking up as soon as put down! I am surrounded by pots and washing!

DS1 had his first hour at Nursery today - was so excited as he was going to DD1 school, I took Imogen in the sling - she wasn't keen!

Boys are now playing and I am looking round at mess and trying to get Imogen to settle!

Might make playgroup for 1:30 - or maybe not!
