bigboydiditandranaway · 30/07/2008 15:26

congratulations miamla, wonderful news, at last you're able to cuddle your baby!

1 day over now, should be really patient, but ds was 3 weeks early so just feel really ready to have my baby very soon and enjoy cuddling him/her and enjoy not being pregnant anymore!!!

has anyone got any advice for the afterpains, apparantly worse with your 2nd as if you haven't been through enough!!

bigboydiditandranaway · 30/07/2008 15:28

oopps!!

Buckets · 30/07/2008 15:32

Should imagine hot water bottle would be best as it's muscular isn't it? I had afterpains with my first, even through the CSec painkillers! Not so much the 2nd time but he wasn't breastfed so less oxytocin in my system.

BabiesEverywhere · 30/07/2008 15:35

Sorry Buckets, you said you thought "But at least you can mix the water and formula if the water is kept warm in a thermos bag or something" Sadly you can't. The powder needs to be added to the boiling (or near boiling i.e. over 70c) water to kill the potential bacteria.

My friend takes a flash of boiling water a pre measured powder in a special container and mixes them when the baby needs it, or buy the pre mixed sterile ready made formula in cartons just for nights.

BabiesEverywhere · 30/07/2008 15:36

How painful are after pains ? I didn't have any with my DD but another mum toild me everyone gets them with their second baby, is that right ?

pregnancy1 · 30/07/2008 15:37

Afternoon,
Just a quick note to say that I've just seen Miamla and she looks amazing! Seriously, if I didn't know there is no way I'd have believed she'd just given birth & been up all night. Baby Theo is absolutely gorgeous and she's successfully fed him. She shoul dbe leaving the hospital today.
I was thrilled - went to pick up my tens machine from the physio and asked what the chances were of managing to sneak in to see her (over 2 hours before visiting time) and the kind physio snuck me in!

Feeling v virtuous today - have done a wash, hoovered the house, picked up my tens/seen Miamla, done a food shop, re packed my hospital bag, and tidied the spare room (I'd have included cleaning the bathroom in that list, but I did the cheat's version - cleaned the loo and sink, ignored the bath/shower and hoovered the tiled floor ). Now going to collapse for an hour until I have to leave to meet my friend - we're going to see Mama Mia .

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 15:38

BEWARE: RANT!!!

I woke this morning, after another rough night, all achey and EXTREMELY hormonal. I just didn't want DH to go to work until I gathered myself. My hips were killing me and I was just feeling bad all over BUT WASN'T CONTRACTING...until I started crying. He agreed to hang out and I jumped in the shower to see if I could pull myself together. Contractions were mild but crying was UNCONTROLLABLE. I thought for a moment that maybe I should just go in a be checked. As I dressed things began to feel better (except for the crying). Then MIL woke and DH told her I wasn't feeling well.

This is where it gets good.....

She said maybe you should go on in. Things might be wrong and that's why you've not given birth yet.

In the nicest CRYING way I could I told them both (DH was standing beside her) to back off that things at that moment didn't seem bad enough to go anywhere. I was exhausted. And my hormones had just gotten away from me.

DH worried about me so I couldn't get him to go on to work immediately. MIL went back in the guest room.

DH, DD and I sat on the porch for about 30min which gave me time to bring myself back together but I was still upset by what MIL had said/implied/whatever. DH again said to just ignore comment and reminded me he thought I was doing well.

I went to apologize to MIL. BUT before I said anything she asked if she could say one last thing. Okay

She said sometimes.....what where the exact words???.....obessive/compulsive individiuals who have the need to control everything, can't. You need to make sure you are doing the best for you and the baby. You should go let the doctor check you because I'm sure he would not approve of you being uncomfortable and upset. What is happening right now could be early signs that you will need a Csection. Listen to me I've had three kids and I never was in as much discomfort as you. My contractions started, I went to the hospital and had the babies.

DH joined us mid speech.

I felt i had to defend myself. I explained I'd been checked more than any normal pregnant woman. The baby's shown excellent vitals. I've shown excellent vitals. Things are just different this time. I'm uncomfortable because the baby's so low. I'm not bleeding. My waters are intact and My contractions are not stable. At 37+4 the doctor will do nothing if I've not dialated except tell me to rest and wait. At 38+0 things might be difference but I'm not there yet.

She was firm that she thought the doctor would do something if I called or went in.

I said I know differently. Then went and got myself a bowl of cereal.

RANT OVER!

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 15:38

And with that I'll be thinking of a new thread title....
Any suggestions??

alittlebitshy · 30/07/2008 16:04

miamla yay!!!!!!
So far (out of 4 of us lol) I hold the record for biggest baby! And so far it's still all boys!!!

Buckets · 30/07/2008 16:04

"What is happening right now could be early signs that you will need a Csection." Had to LOL, what particular condition did she have in mind? Poor you.
It's tricky isn't it, on the one hand it's nice to have people respecting your condition and not poopooing the crazy feelings but then when they start making up their own medical theories... Probably only a matter of time when your MIL comes to stay though LOL, everything has its price. Why not suggest she go out explore the city a bit, she might be getting cabin fever.

Buckets · 30/07/2008 16:06

PS You need more chocolate TS, for the emotional crashes y'understand.

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 16:14

In attempt to redirect my feelings(what I can nicely call ANGER now), I have just cleaned up my kitchen.

I'm with you Buckets.....when MIL started talking "this could be early signs of needing CS" it was all I could do to hold back the biggest WTF.

Will break out the bag of choc after lunch.

oopsacoconut · 30/07/2008 16:20

TS {{HUGS}} - my response would have been very short and sweet to the 'when my contractions started i went to the hospital....' Well it's a good things we are all differnet isn't it! or Gee I didn't know you had been to med school. I have very little patience on this front with my MIL who still thinks I should have a c-section as it makes it easier all round - they can plan things and DH can organise work cover etc. BUT what she doesn't realise is I would then be housebound with only her and Dh to help, my mum is not here yet and my friends and people i want to see are all 30mins drive away! Sorry crashed your rant (Oops - steps away from the MIL conversations)

Off to eat more ice and hopefully someoneelse will have a baby whilst I'm out tonight - can we request a girl please? All these big strong boys need a girl to keep them in order!

pregnancy1 · 30/07/2008 16:21

Grrr TS. Have you tried pointing out that things have changed in the 30-odd years since she had babies and, even if they hadn't, her memory probably isn't quite what it was?
I can't abide people who comment (with authority) on something which they don't have a clue. It drives me insane. I have no problems with suggestions/thoughts caveated with the fact that said person isn't sure but grrrr for you
Many months agao I mentioned to my mum that I needed to have a car seat in place so we could take bean home. She said that was nonsense, I could just take her in my lap!!!! I pointed out it was illegal and times had changed etc etc and she has tried her very best to not 'add value' since!

Today must be RANT day........

Having been discharged on Monday, and the doc wrote in my handheld notes "see in MAS on weds for bp and urine check, for discharge AFTER review by doctor"....
I got to MAS today, had my wee checked (trace of protein), bp checked (up again at 140/90) and VERY fat ankles/calves, plus I had a headache. The mw was discussing my care with the Sister on the other side of the curtains-which-double-as-sound-proofed-walls, and the convo went like this:

Sister: Where has this lady come from?
Mw: The cons wanted her to come in to be checked. Her bp is raised, her last bloods were raised and today she has protein in her urine plus she is complaining of a headache.
Sister (in a very arsey tone): Doesn't everyone have a headache in this weather? She has an appt for next Monday. Those bloods are normal for a 37 week pg woman. Tell her to come back on MOnday. Hmm. I suppose we could check her bloods and ring her tomorrow with the result.

I'm so frigging annoyed. I did not ask to be dragged back to hospital for an ante-natal check. I did not slip protein into my own pee. Nor did I do gymnastics on the way in to raise my bp.

I asked the mw if I should be concerned about the level of oedema and she said "no, most pg ladies get swelling". Well I fucking know that you stupid eejit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

So, I never saw the doc but got told to come back in if I saw any flashing lights associated with the headaches. Like I'm really gonna call back with Genghis Khan on duty!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am so annoyed that they made me feel like I was wasting their precious time

oopsacoconut · 30/07/2008 16:23

CC you rant so much better than I do

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 16:24

Oops, don't apologize. Makes me feel more normal knowing I'm not alone.

And Preg1, I'm trying to rationalize that it is her age (63yrs) and lack of sanity that provoked the nonsense.

pregnancy1 · 30/07/2008 16:24

oops I'm doing my best. Drinking raspberry leaf tea, eating pineapple and will try the other later too. Not due until the 16th though, so doubt bean will be the first little girl....
All other tips on getting her moving gratefully received

CaptainCaveman · 30/07/2008 16:26

And poor you TS your MIL has annoyed me from 4000 miles away so goodness only knows how you feel!! You did very well to stay so calm, so well done you .

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 16:27

Go CC Go
Go CC Go
RANT RANT RANT
Everyone is F$%^king idoits today!!!!

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 16:28

Tequila Shots All Around!!!!

CaptainCaveman · 30/07/2008 16:28

oops it must be all the emoticons that does it. That or the swearing. That was the mild version btw - I thought I might get booted of mn if every other word was a swear!

Stupid blooody idiots though
