ChaCha dear sounds like you need a rest. And NEVER apologize for moaning on this thread! Hope this evening goes well.

Here's my moan: I think MIL is ready for this to be it. She told me when she was pregnant, as soon as she started contracting she went to the hospital and had her babies. Then she keeps asking if I think I should go yet. I phoned DH about this and he said just tune her out, that I've done great so far and will know when I need to go.

In the mean time I phoned my Dad's wife, the labor/deliver nurse. She said all signs point to the obvious but without a cervix check can't be for sure. I've been poked enough this week THANK YOU!! So I'm taking this all in strides. One load of wash, dishes cleaned, and a pot of spagetti (with meat sauce) on the stove.....I'd say I've redirected my energy nicely.

Buckets....mystic tan? REALLY? You planning on getting a date in the maternity wing??

oopsacoconut · 29/07/2008 16:58

annvan Why so strange??? I'm not THAT old Yes I do still have one - my parents divorced when i was little and my stepmum became my mum (no idea where the real other one is)and she is much younger than my dad - so I still have an Oma! My mum will be Oma too and she just can't wait.

PetitFilou1 · 29/07/2008 17:08

I've still got an Granny and Grandpa on my dad's side - and I'm a thread granny so oops you are not the only one! dd calls me mama so I'm looking forward to being Grandmama one day

OP posts:
Buckets · 29/07/2008 17:33

Annvan, I too forget other grown ups have grandparents, lost my last one aged 14. DH has a pair fairly nearby though, they are more with it than his parents tbh!

Am still on my mad baking version of nesting - made date biscuits at 8.30 last night, zucchini frittata and almost-from-scratch-lasagne today.

TwilightSurfer · 29/07/2008 17:46

TMI but need to ask...
Okay everyone knows I've been contracting nicely today. Well I just ate a "small" bowl of spagetti with meat sauce (which was pretty good). Should I have NOT eaten that? If full on labor starts, I'm going to puke it back up, aren't I???

AnnVan · 29/07/2008 17:49

Sorry oops did not mean to imply anything about your age. I guess it's just that one of my omas died when I was 11, and the other died a few years ago. It just seems strange that people my own age or older can still have living grandparents. (DPs great grandad on one side is still alive and even drives a car, so when the bumpy is born there will be five generations of the family!)

AnnVan · 29/07/2008 17:52

TS - I'm no expert on labour but I don't htink you can starve yourself incase you puke things back up. You've no real idea yet of when actual labour is going to kick in after all.

Buckets - can't quite remember, butare you our resident nappy lady??

pregnancy1 · 29/07/2008 18:03

TS bear in mind that this is my first, but I have been told at various classes to make sure I eat during the early stages as I won't want to later on and I need to build up energy, so it sounds like the bowl of pasta was a good move.
Fingers crossed that things start moving soon.
Might have to go and buy myself some pineapple tomorrow as I'm getting v xx

CaptainCaveman · 29/07/2008 18:17

chacha and cyteen I'm with you on the wobbly feeling. Legs feel like they won't support me properly and I keep having 'myoclonic jerks' (the little jumps you get when dropping off to sleep) whenever I sit down for more than 10 mins!
I wonder if some of the problem is fluid retention - the docs are very keen to keep testing my reflexes by karate chopping me on the knees . I really did feel like I would fall over yesterday!

Hey everyone else! Hope you are having 'good' days

bohemianbint · 29/07/2008 18:18

Oh my god - had a home visit from midwife today (thought she'd be bringing the home birth stuff, but she didn't!) and she utterly depressed me by saying she didn't know why the scan brought my due date forward to the 17th; she reckons it should be the 22nd of August. I could cry. I can't physically stay pregnant and look after DS for another 5 weeks!

As it was she needed to take blood from me, so I had a needle in my arm and a toddler bouncing all over me screaming at the same time. I can't possibly stay like this another 5 weeks.

MrsMagooo · 29/07/2008 18:22

Evening all,

Sorry not been about, managed to lock myself out the house this morning I blame pregnancy brain!!

Oooo Miamla best of luck hun - hope you have a nice quick & smooth labour

Jenny hope all goes well for you too - maybe you're cuddling bubba right now

TS I wouldn't worry to much hun, the day I went into labout with DD I had a huge fry up at lunchtime & was eating my evening meal when my contractions started - I carried on eating as I was starving lol!! Little & often

ChaCha {{{{hugs}}}}

Question for you lovely lot - you know when you get your period it can really make your bum/back/legs ache - that real periody crampy ache?? Well I have got that today do you think that could be the start of things?? Also got pressure in my bum, back ache on/off, strong BH's, few crampy pains etc - I know it could still be a few days off yet but seriously hoping this is the start

CaptainCaveman · 29/07/2008 18:23

AW bb don't know what to say - why is she going against the scan date, I thought these were more accurate anyway? ((((((bb)))))

TwilightSurfer · 29/07/2008 18:24

BB due dates are all a mystery anyway. Don't even let it get to you.

Thanks for the positive reminders about eating during early labor. I guess it is more like prepping for an athletic event....maybe that's why I was craving spagetti. Not to mention my house smells wonderful at the moment. YUM!!!!

TwilightSurfer · 29/07/2008 18:25

MrsM.....I've been feeling that way on and off for two weeks but LOADS over the past 24 hours.

Buckets · 29/07/2008 18:37

Annvan, I am indeed a nappy expert to some extent. Have a look here for general getting started tips but do ask me anything. Also the ladies on the MN Nappy board are more with it on the latest fashions.

PetitFilou1 · 29/07/2008 18:38

TS I wouldn't worry about it - if you are hungry you are hungry!

BB You'll be ok one way or the other - am sure mw wasn't trying to upset you, probably she was genuinely confused as to why they brought your due date forwards.

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 29/07/2008 18:38

Scuse any typos - i'm allowed them when I'm tired, yes?? can't be bothered to go and read my own drivel to check how badly i've typed.

Hoping I get to type something before Henry wakes up!

So we have some more babies on the way -v exciting!!!

I'm not wanting to jinx it but feeding is going better. My wonderful bf lady has changed it all - our positioning i s much better and fingers crossed the early damage is healing up rather nicely.
Seem to be feeding all day long - seriously it can be 3 feeds withn an hour and a half - but so far every night her has had a big chunk of sleep (5 hours) followed by a shorter one (but the long one starts at abour 12 (yawn, sob from me by that time) after a VERY intense time of cluster feeding. Does that sound normal at this stage (5 days old) to those ladies who've fed well before (I was not sane enough to know last time).

The csecion went well - though i freaked a bit when they did the spinal lock. dh wasn't allowed in and I just panicked and ended up having a bit of oxygen . When they took him out they said it was another big one (lol - we'd discussed dd'd size, as it was me reason for em csec last time) then the midwife told suregon not to tell us what sex it was and showed him to us. that was lovely. They wouldn;t let dh cut the cord but he was ok about that.

Henry latched on (albeit not v geart) within about an hour (not sdure of timing from him being out to me being in recovery) and basically hasn;t stopped feeidng since.

My main advice re feeding - midwives are a mixed bag. My bf lady said they should all have basic training on it - but many do;t and can give v conflicting advice and are not great at showing you how to pssition. So if your hosp is lucky enough to have a bf adviser do ask to see her!!!!!!!!!!!!

My milk started coming in on day 2-3 ish and the baby blues hit me nig time. I'm not over them yet - but I'm not begging dh to give pioor henry to someone who cna cope with him like I was . My worst times are evening and the end of the cluster feeding when I am ready to drop, and as we're still early on I'm obv not sure if he'll do the same each night so start to panic that he'll be on the boob ALL night and I'll nver sleep,

DD is loving being a big sis. She;s being fab!!! So far not a moment of jealousy and she;s v helpful (eg when Henry did his first wee over dh today (i've not had the delight yet - just a million pos a day) she came to get me to help when he asked.

dd is at some holiday clubs this week which is helping us - we;re getitng time with Henry and she is not being bored stuck at home. My mum is up again next week so she'll help with dd a lot then. We're seeing jst how big abd grown up dd is though - scary that 5 years ago she was this small (well, not physically lol)...... It does help to see that even when i am stressed out my brain, it will get better cos look how much easier (if stroppy etc) a 5 year old with a routine is.

Can't think what else to say.

It's nice to be back on and see all the familiar names.

Looking fwd to hearing miamla's news and glad that Henry will have a playmate less than a week yoger than him. Come on pgcy1 essex (lol lol) East London mumsnetters united (tm) need you too!!!

ooh - Henry calls. Boob feed number 1 million of the day coming up.

bohemianbint · 29/07/2008 18:39

Cheers CC. I dunno why, she said if there wasn't a difference of more than 2 weeks between your initial dates from LMP and the scan, they should keep your own original dates? Sounds a bit rum to me. Anyway, that kind of speculation (and fending off DS) put my blood pressure up higher than it's been yet!

Time to crank up the raspberry leaf tea, I think...

gigglegirl · 29/07/2008 18:46

i have just realised I can count the number of hours til I have a new baby and I am NOT ready.

I should be freaking out but instead I am dreaming of Ben and Jerrys Choc ice cream. No chance of getting any thogh as DH doesn't drive!

pregnancy1 · 29/07/2008 18:56

GOsh Albs, sounds like you've been through the mill. Glad you got to see the bf advisor - was it the whipps one as she is fab (I went to a 2 hour class on bf'ing by her). She runs a weekly class in Leyton (think it's on a friday, have scrap of paper with details somewhere) and I plan to go. Let me know if you want me to pass on the details.
LOL about your DH getting wee'd on. I think that's one of the comedy factors in having a boy.
Yup, I'd love to join the east london (!?) club - one day not at work and I'm climbing the walls. Will go spare if all my pregnant friends pop and stop coming out to play/waddle (because it's all about me ).
V exciting news about everyone else. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone (hence the rubbish typing )

gigglegirl · 29/07/2008 18:58

abs congratulations

I've breastfed all three of mine and am a breastfeedig counsellor and everything you have said sounds totally normal and healthy. baby blues are really icky and can hit you really hard - I've had it bad and not at all but you seem to be doing exactly the right thing and taking the lead from Henry. You will get loads of advice and dos and don't but my main tip for Mums is to do what feels right. If the cluster feeds really get you down the best thing you can do is give Henry to your DH, it is actually really lovely late at night going out for a walk. If you have a sling he could snuggle him up in that or swaddle him in a pram and go for a walk - the brisker the better. henry may well fall asleep but you can def have a shower get changed, find a DVD you want to watch, eat a bit of chocolate and feel human again. that 20mins half an hour will do him no harm and will do you the world of good! You're important too!

alittlebitshy · 29/07/2008 18:58

Henry not actually awake - just burbling.

Just scrolled down til I saw about jennylee. Belated good luck!! Can't believe the tens machines have been nicked form the hosp. Appalling.

alittlebitshy · 29/07/2008 19:05

pgcy1 - i meant you me and miamla as our east london/esex/wherever club. Sorry - should have done a or something.
And yes I mean Jo Naylor at whipps - she is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sobbed down the phone at her on Sunday and she helped calm me down etc, she came out yesterday and let me cry again later - but it was only one midwife in hops who told me about her - the rest just dished out their own advice (or one offered tops ups - on day 2 fgs - luckily I was strong enough not to give in even though I was exhausted etc - if i'd been offered last time i might have done, I was appalled thst she offered tbh).

AM aiming to go the the group on friday - it's near baker's arms i believe!!

TwilightSurfer · 29/07/2008 19:08

Alittlebitshy {{hugs}} such wonderful yet exhausting news. So glad you and Henry are home and settled.

Sibh · 29/07/2008 19:08

Hi Albs--glad to hear that things are settling. The cluster feeding is physically and mentally exhausting, and I don't envy you that. Could you try feeding lying down as you get more confident with the position as that can really help with the tiredness. Also, my bf counsellor was a big fan of chocolate for those moments when you feel totally 'gone', and it does give you an instant lift to keep going.

Make sure DH knows that it is totally normal to feel overwhelmed by the demands that feeding has at the beginning. Just as it's normal to run round looking for your car keys while feeding a few weeks later ...
