morning all. Am still here, enjoying all the birthing/labor stories!
Wondering about derah....maybe your LO is here now!!! Good luck with evertyhing

piggyp and brazilianmum CONGRATULATIONSto you both also!

MNFM- great story, good for you sticking to your guns and having things how you wanted! I want to refuse an induction, if possible, just not sure whether i will be strong enough if/when the time comes!

aprilsfoolsbaby, sending some virtual RIP flowers to you, i am sure the peach suite with love them!!

Well i am now 40 +4. Had an acupuncture session yesterday eve, then by 9 ish light contractions started again, these got stronger and more frequent, so started to time them, every 5/6 m ins for about 50-60 secs. Really thought it had done the trick...managed to get to sleep about 1.00 woke at 3...all contractions stopped...back to sleep, woke at 5, some slight ones, cant get back to sleep so have got up....sat on the ball had a hot chocolate...and now they have stopped AGAIN..........grrrrrr.

ah well it will happen eventually it HAS to

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 09:45

merryberry · 01/03/2008 09:45

hee, it's all happening!
not for me, but heh, i can live vicariously!

JFly · 01/03/2008 10:11

Wa hey! Good luck Derah! I bet you're tucked up with your LO as we speak. I think we can tentatively welcome our first proper March baby!

Sending you lots of labour vibes merry and jay. MNFMum your story is most empowering! Way to stick to your guns and not let them bully you into anything. Gives me hope that I can do that, too. Oh, and I'm going to buy that Earth Mama stuff this weekend for sure!

HolidaysQueen · 01/03/2008 10:16

Oooh so exciting! Derah may have her little one by now!

MNFmum - your birth story is so inspiring! I have to say I'm feeling really excited about labour now (am I mad?) because of all these wonderful, positive stories you guys are posting. Thank you

Did anybody watch the Dawn Porter documentary the other night on BBC3 about childbirth? She saw two births in the birth centre at my hospital and they were both so inspiring! I also found it surprisingly calming (after the gory negative bits at the start were out of the way) because she did things like look at forceps and ventouse and it made me a lot less scared of them (I have been completely freaked out by the idea of an instrumental delivery). I cried when they showed the second birth - it was so serene and calm and special and the mum's reaction when the baby arrived was just lovely. It's on iPlayer I believe if anybody wants to watch it.

fitnfortyone · 01/03/2008 11:14

Hope it's all over now derah and you're happily tucked up with your new March arrival! [claps hand in glee emoticon]

Hoping that the "labour pains" twin thing extends to me but since i'm a 1st timer i doubt it Had a great night's sleep last night, only up a couple of times for the loo, slept through most of the gales blowing things round outside and LO didn't start kicking until 9ish this morning. DH brought me some raspberry leaf tea in bed, but couldn't get the hang of cooking quorn bacon sarnies so am up now to educate him in that before he burns the place down. Left hip feels like i was sleeping on a tennis ball though, where do these aches come from?

While the weather's good today, think we might have to go for as long a walk as poss in the park with the pooch....

Jaysthird · 01/03/2008 11:22

Holidaysqueen, i saw it. At first i thought Dawn was a bit 'FLIPPANT' about it all, and didn't appear to be taking it seriously, if she had come up to me and asked if she could watch my birth, i might have wondered if she was having a laugh at my expense, but she came good in the end, and i am glad her eyes were opened to the WHOLENESS of childbirth, not just the 'pain' she kept harping on about!
(have to say, i also cried at the second birth, in fact i think i may have sobbed!!!)

c'mon contractions, where are you????

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 11:40

I am in the middle of watching it now and want to kill her...could have something to do with the strong braxton hicks i'm.......hav....ing...ugh...ow

OP posts:
HolidaysQueen · 01/03/2008 11:41

Jaysthird - that was exactly what I thought. I nearly switched off at the start because I thought it was really off-putting but I think by the end she had got the tone about right - yes, it's gory and painful, but it's wonderful too and it's what women have been doing forever so it's not something to be scared about. Well, not too scared anyway

fitnfortyone · 01/03/2008 12:04

turtle - sure they're BH and not the real thing?

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 12:23

Ohhh how I wish they were. They're not regular, not painful...just sort of intense? Went up to hospital two days ago and had it confirmed that they were just BH. Well, am assuming that they would be more than just distracting pulling feelings if it were real.......

OP posts:
Jaysthird · 01/03/2008 13:16

turtle , i think yours and mine are in a race, we seem to be 'egging' each other along!!

Jaysthird · 01/03/2008 13:17

when are/were you due?

skidoodle · 01/03/2008 13:56

derah - hope all is going/went well. so excited for you

marchmum what lovely pictures we have had weirdly parallel lives recently. I also moved to the UK in 2006 to be with my (now husband) and got married last June too.

Your birth story is great, I'm filled with admiration for you sticking up for what you wanted. I'm normally pretty assertive but I just can't imagine having the confidence to argue for what I want when I'll be so nervous and out of my depth. I'm going to really try to be inspired by your example.

jaysthird & JFly - I know how you feel. here's hoping we all manage to stick up for our own choices during labour

I was telling DH about the skin-to-skin contact for the Dad and about how MarchMum had said it had been so nice and did he want to try it, and his reply was that the midwives might be a bit surprised if they turned around after the delivery to see him standing there in the nude waiting for the baby

I told him that full frontal nudity wouldn't be necessary but now I can't get away from the picture of me doing my last few pushes while he suddenly starts stripping off. Also I imagine that he ends up totally naked apart from a surgical mask, which I know is not how it would be, but it seems funnier.

"sir, can you please leave your boxer shorts on. we know it's called "home from home" but really..."

my SIL is going to be induced tomorrow if nothing happens today. I'm so excited, I can't wait to hear the news. I'm driving DH mad asking if he's had a text or anything. His step-mum called earlier and I ran up two flights of stairs in record time. I didn't think I had it in me right now

derah · 01/03/2008 14:26

Derah gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at 05:30 this morning, weighing 7.13 pounds. Gory details to follow?
Uri (Dearth's husband).

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 14:41

Hurrah! Congrats Derah ...hope you managed to have your home water birth?
Jay -that's the mad thing...I'm not due for another three weeks! I literally haven't stopped having BH for three days and it's the thought of being like this for a month that worries me. Am allowed my homebirth now, so am hoping that he'll either calm down or make an appearance a bit early! How about you?

OP posts:
MissingMyHeels · 01/03/2008 15:00

Hurrah! Our first March baby, congratulations Derah & family

I wish I had some BH's or something but still nothing really, I think she likes it in there too much!!

I have very annoyingly not been able to get a midwives appointment next week as they are fully booked but I NEED one as going by my LMP dates (EDD 4th March)I will be overdue and fast approaching my scanned EDD (10th March). Plus I had fairly high blood pressure at last one, not really sure what they expect me to do! Hopefully it'll sort itself out, that mini rant helped

Jaysthird · 01/03/2008 15:21

Big congratulations to Derah and hubby, cant wait for your story!!

Turtle i was due 26th Feb...so am currently running at 4days over. I have a consultants appointment next Wednesday, i know they will want to induce......but thats not what i want. Had acupuncture yesterday, and have another session booked for Monday.... am willing the baby to come before Wed!!!

Missingmyheels, hope you get your MW appointment, its a pain in the bum when they are not accommodating!

C'MON BABY!!!!

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 15:29

Jaysthird...stick to your guns!! And jump on your husband (it can't hurt! )

OP posts:
skidoodle · 01/03/2008 15:34

Congratulations derah and uri

this is so exciting.

MMH - I've had only one episode that I think was BHs and I'm due on the 8th. I'm hoping that means we just have such high pain thresholds we aren't noticing them it can't possibly be that we will be going over our due dates, I'm sure

BTW I don't like the sound of no midwife appointment this week. It might be time to harness the spirit of MarchMum and insist you're seen this week, especially if your BP was high last time. We've just seen on this list how quickly BP problems can flare up, as with aprilfool

monthlymayhem · 01/03/2008 17:20

Congratulations Derah!!

MarchnowFebmum - great story and pics, very inspiring as others have said.

I'm not due till the 18th, and so far have had absolutely no sign of any BHs, so think I'll be in for the long haul. In some ways I can't wait to meet baby, but in others I'm a bit nervous about how life changing it's going to be

JFly · 01/03/2008 17:44

Big congratulations, Derah! Can't wait to hear more and see pics.

turtle23 · 01/03/2008 17:46

Very sorry, but tmi alert: Is anyone else finding it erm...difficult to have sex? Am very swollen and it just isn't very comfy. How I'm going to cope doing it daily for weeks I just don't know, but am convinced it will help...

OP posts:
aprilfoolsbaby · 01/03/2008 18:38

Ohh another baby. Congratulations Derah your birth story sounds great.

Midwife came today bp was in the 80s so it's going down. Need to go back on Monday for another check. It is scary how fast this happened with me and has totally shocked me into calming down, this pregnancy has been a breeze and I was working shifts until last week. Must be nature's way of saying 'hang on a minute missus there's a baby in here'

What have you all been doing with your time? Anything nice? Or just relaxing?

The peach suite has gone..... we now have a bright clean white suite - it's amazing how chuffed you can get over these things, isn't it?

papaya · 01/03/2008 20:37

wow!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats Derah!!!!!!!!
