jayne i have had sweeps before and they have generally been ok, just concentrate on relaxing and breathing through it, it doesnt hurt as long as your cervix is ready for it, tho it can be uncomfortable.

i would say get a MIDWIFE to do it, the only one i ever had that did hurt was done by a male consultant, the midwifes seems to know what they are doing more and go slowly, they will first reach and find your cervix and then they have always told me when they are about to do the sweep itself, you can feel it, and it can be uncomfy but not painful.#

it worked with ds3 in that after my waters had been broken i didnt have 'proper' contractions, the midwife said she would give me sweep to help kick start the hormone release etc and bingo contractions started and ds3 was born three hours later

but although having a sweep seems to help me contract a bit and gets my cervix more ready for labour i have still ended up getting my waters broken each time.

the bump is a boy yes

crampy as hell, lots of bh. had what must be classed as a clear out but nothing much happening. these march babies must be very comfy

JayneF · 11/03/2008 17:45

3mad boys soon to be 4,...wow, that is a vast amount of sock searching and sports kit to launder. good luck!

Not much happening here either, contractions stopped at 2pm. Running dangerously low on creme egg supply. Corporal Jones redeeming himself by promising to make us a great curry for tea.

Off to batten down the hatches for the night.

Anybody heard from ibblewob/MB?

Oh f**k. Just got a call from DH to say it looks like his 95 year old nan (to whom he is incredibly close) is about to die. She's been in and out of hospital in recent months with various infections and she was taken back in last week, but we had hoped that she would last a few more weeks so she could meet his first child, but it looks like that isn't going to be. It looks like she has hours/days left rather than weeks.

I'm in floods of tears here and needing to offload, so sorry to dampen the mood on here, if only because when DH gets in I'm going to have to be the strong one and we're going to have to head straight to his parents so I just needed to vent a little.

Oh god, I mean, I knew this was a possibility - I had already thought about how we might have to go straight from our hospital to her hospital with the baby so that they could meet each other at least - but I'm just so sad that it looks like she will go before our LO arrives.

Oh HQ, that really is s**t. I wish I had some words of wisdom, but you'll have to make do with a hug and my very last chocolate brownie. Hope things magically turn around in time, but otherwise sending you loads of supportive vibes. XX

Oh hq offload all you want, its hard to be the strong one sometimes, hope it works out somehow.

CricketsMum · 11/03/2008 18:05

HQ, so sorry to hear that... sending hugs and best wishes. Never a good time for news like that but this does seem particularly unfair. Hope your DH is ok. xxx

merryberry · 11/03/2008 18:40

great to catch up on all your news. sorry, HQ to hear yours. Sorry not to comment on anyone elses. I am too dog tired with yetmore pre-labour of increasing intensity, do see link for detail if interested.

am probably signing off now to get through this night before induction tomorrow morning, so see you soon. will be reading the thread as much as poss from phone...please start a new thread as you approach 600 posts...otherwise my phone can't handle it!

many thanks, TTFN, chins up, cervixes down, babies out etc

e14mum · 11/03/2008 18:52

Sorry to hear your news HQ- virtual hugs for you and DH.
My DH thinks tonight's the night- but how many frozen creme eggs do y'all want to bet I'm still here tomorrow?!
JayneF, you got a prediction for me? I'm having a sweep on Friday if nothing's happening before then (although will only be 40+5- the birthing centre want to avoid induction as then you have to go to hospital and not to them)

New thread already started so we dont lose touch with Merryberry.

Good evening all,

Bet there are not many of us left now.

I am still with you 38 weeks today and they are planning to let me go full term. At the scan both babies were head down so hoping they are planning on coming soon.

I went for a appointment on Wendesday and my iron from a previous blood test was 8.8 which they said is very low, they started to talk to me about having an iron infusion or if my iron did not improve i may have to have a blood transfusion when i give birth, scared me to death. They said i could not have iron tablets as they would not work in timeso they wanted me to have another blood test and would call me later on in the day to let me know if i had to go back in.

Then of course when she went to do my blood pressure it was sky high, i had to have my blood pressure checked several times and another water sample as they said i may have a water infection due to something found in my water.

They called me later on that day to say my iron was up to 9.3 and that iron tables would do for me. I was very relieved

They informed me next week at my appointment they will do an internal and see how things are maybe do a sweep and stretch.

I am still hanging on to hope they will arrive on their own very soon.
Glad you are all ok.
