Glamma Congratulations!!!!

HolidaysQueen so happy for you that your placenta is out of the way now - I had the same problem but had my scan a few weeks ago and they were happy enough for me to go ahead and push like everyone else

I was worried about the trapped nerve pain in the upper thighs until the earlier post about how this can be caused by LO's head engaging!!! I thought I was doing something reall wrong!

Hope everyone's early labour pains don't last too long and we all have our LO's safe and sound soon...

I actually feel waves of being really, really "ill" - it's the only way I can describe it really apart from the now painful BH. I suppose feeling this cr@ppy 24/7 and being unable to sleep due to discomfort is a subliminal way of making us all "look forward" to the birth part?!?

Ah well, best of luck one and all xxx

skidoodle · 28/02/2008 21:15

hurray congratulations glam and welcome Charlie

The boys are coming...

Tomorrow is my last day of work. Today I had my final ante-natal appointment with my GP (unless I go over) and I also picked up my TENS machine.

I can feel a head pressing against my cervix when I walk but I'm mostly feeling well and sleeping fine.

LOL @ glam looking forward to catheter-induced non-weeing all night action. I can't believe we're in a place where having a catheter sounds like a welcome relief, but in some ways it does.

hope the rest of you on the cusp are getting somewhere - merryberry, piggyp, spugs, anyone else who feels they might be ready to pop.

skidoodle · 28/02/2008 21:20

@ papaya YES, it all feels so surreal to me.

I mean, I've finally got my head around the whole being pregnant thing and now everyone's bored with that and wanting to have actually babies

fitnfortyone · 28/02/2008 21:23

mods - LO means little one or loved one

littleducks · 28/02/2008 21:33

ooh, the babies are coming thick and fast now!

drs phoned me today, i only had blood test yesterday but apparently my blood count was so low they were worried about me and want me to up iron tabs immediately, no wondered i feel sooo tired!

Could the low iron be a factor in the baby growth appearing to have slowed? I measured 34cm instead of 36 and have been dead on or over up til now????

JFly · 29/02/2008 08:52

Hmm, guess I'll put the coffee on. Maybe that will rouse everyone from their lie-ins?

I had to get up in case the builders show up. Of course they haven't yet! But, here's hoping the new nursery window goes in today and they finish plastering. I'm starting to think we may actually finish the room before the baby arrives!

Saw "Juno" last night and think I had some sympathy BH after the movie. Or I just ate too many sweets - hard to say.

spugs · 29/02/2008 09:56

april - that sounds like a good weight, apparrently they put on about 1/2 lb a weeks in the last month. which would make baby 7lb something at birth. i think 7lb is about average (could be totally wrong here mind )

jfly -lie in i wish! i want to go and see juno, dont have time though so might have to wait till it comes out on dvd.

JFly · 29/02/2008 10:04

Good morning, spugs! There is life afterall. I think everyone must be very busy today; perhaps taking advantage of the extra day of the year??

"Juno" is very cute, but I did find myself getting a tad emotional (how odd ) during birth, etc. Probably best to leave it until after our babies, given our fragile state.

littleducks · 29/02/2008 10:50

So are we going to have any leap year babies then?

Then from tomorrow it is only days for all of us, ok 26 days in my case but still only days!

fitnfortyone · 29/02/2008 11:01

Morning...woke up after 4 today with stomach pains and got excited that something might be happening, but went back to sleep and they stopped. Got up about 6ish for something to eat, stomach got sore again, an hour later, not a sausage. Hurry up junior and get yourself out of me, stop teasing!

Brazilianmum · 29/02/2008 11:18

ok everyone. I'm here to tell you all my news.

Samuel Joshua was born on 26 February at 13.31 weighing 3.640kg (just over 8lbs) after 10.5 hours in labour.

Started feeling irregular contractions on 25 Feb in the afternoon. By 02.00 contractions were very painful and every four minutes so we went to the hospital.

When I got there started on gas and air, but midwife could see I wasn't going to cope very well with the pain so said I should have an epidural. Got ep straight away and it was a godsend. Was able to relax and sleep and conserve my energy. They gave me cintocynon with the ep to induce labour and by 11am I was 9cm dilated.

Started to push and the first couple of hours were ok but the last half hour was very hard work. Head kept going back up and the last few pushes I was ready to give up, but the MW and student MW were excellent and together with Dave kept encouraging me. So after a few more pushes out he came and it was lovely.

They put him straight on my stomach and gave me cinto to get the placenta out.

I had 2nd degree tearing (small tear inside and big graze outside) and had to have a few stiches.

We were discharged on Wednesday afternoon and Sam is doing very well. He's been feeding a lot and nipples are a bit sore, but been applying lancinoh and it's helping. So far he doesn't like his crib and been keeping us up a lot. But we will find our feet and get to know each other in the coming weeks.

I loaded some pics on multiply for you to see. Sam has blue eyes, lots of hair and looks like his dad.

On a few pointers for other first timers. Been using Earth Mamma bottom spray which is soothing and cooling. Also using Earth mamma postpartum bath herbs, just put some of the tea from the herbs on the maternity pads and it helps so much with the stinging and soreness. Also stock up on paracetamol.

Anyway, better go and get some rest.

Congrats to Glam and Hayls on your boys as well. Looking forward to seeing you all soon with our little bundles.

HolidaysQueen · 29/02/2008 11:18

Morning all - I was up bright and early to go and get my hair cut and blowdried. I'm off out into Soho for a girlie night tonight and decided I couldn't go in my habitual ragamuffin state. It was so nice having my hair done - can definitely recommend it as a late pregnancy treat!

april - I know that the weight estimates are not that reliable because I think the calcs use an 'average' amount of amniotic fluid and most people have more or less than that, so any weight can have quite a large margin of error and they consequently work with quite a large range for 'normal' at this stage. So it's more important that your midwife thinks you are in a normal range rather than what the weight actually is.

My best friend was told her baby was 6lb 11oz at 34 weeks so we were expecting him to be well over 9lb but he ended up being 8lb 3oz at birth so the weight calc was clearly an overestimate! The main thing for me was that my DH was 10lb at birth, so I'm just relieved that there seems no way for my LO to get that big in the next 4 weeks!

HolidaysQueen · 29/02/2008 11:24

Oh Brazilianmum - what lovely news! And well done you with your birth story - sounds like you did brilliantly and it all went just great.

As for Sam - what a cutie! He has none of those weird blotches and scrapes and bashes that most newborns do.

Congratulations!!!

MissingMyHeels · 29/02/2008 11:27

Congrats BM - he is adorable!! Thanks for the advice about the Earth Mamma stuff, I'm running out of things to panic purchase Also a lovely birth story.

PurlyQueen · 29/02/2008 11:32

Oh, he's beautiful, BM - Well done!

See you on Earth Mamma, missingmyheels!

fitnfortyone · 29/02/2008 12:11

MumOfBillyTheKid · 29/02/2008 12:29

Well done BM - he looks lovely! Thanks for the birth story - nice to hear good stories (to encourage those of us still waiting still to think positively!)

Congratulations to you and family - enjoy rooming in!

turtle23 · 29/02/2008 12:33

Congrats Brazilianmum! He's so lovely!!! Well done.
How exciting, all these babies...can't wait for my turn! Somebody must be in labour, surely. We must have a 29th Feb baby?

OP posts:
JFly · 29/02/2008 12:57

Aw, he's lovely, Brazilmum! Love the pic with your dog! No way is that pooch getting pushed out by baby!

I was convinced on Monday I'd give birth by today, but alas, no such luck! So, don't think you're getting a leap year baby out of me!

Merry? Derah? Mumofmonsters? Down to you, I reckon!

CricketsMum · 29/02/2008 13:15

Congrats Brazilianmum - he's gorgeous and I love the name!

Had PMT type mood swings for the first time in 8.5 months last night... told DH that that can be an early sign of things starting to happen and could go on for a few weeks - he looked pretty stricken! Can't say I particularly enjoyed being grumpy and tearful either!

JFly - good luck with the decorating. DH has taken today off and we've just been plastering LO's room... Hoping to get to painting tomorrow...

piggyp · 29/02/2008 13:21
