I am under strict instructions to not have the baby this weekend, as my friend who is having dd while I go into hospital is away in Weymouth!

HolidaysQueen · 29/02/2008 13:52

Hurray piggyp. And well done!

delcymru · 29/02/2008 14:07

Well done all you new mums. Congrats and best wishes to you.And spare a thought for us still waiting .

CricketsMum · 29/02/2008 14:15

Congrats PiggyP!

Wow - it really is all happening now isn't it?!

doup76 · 29/02/2008 14:42

piggyp and brazilianmum
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Well done ladies!

derah · 29/02/2008 15:29

Woo hoo!! More babies!! Congratulations BM and Piggy, and welcome to Sam and Emily!!

So who's in labour today, then?

DH was convinced I'd have LO today, cos he managed to convince the bosses to provide cake since they're working "for free" on this extra day of the year!! And it's pub night too (work pays for drinks every last Friday of the month). But it ain't happening.

Still lots of BH, some very painful, my boobs are spouting milk if I squeeze them, and I'm in the foulest mood ever. All of which I hope means things are moving along but I've been saying/hoping that for two blardy weeks now!!!

I've just spoken to my friend who's going to be my unofficial doula. She's been home to Australia for the past month, and came back with very exciting news - she's preggers too!! Bad news is that she has pretty bad morning sickness, and I don't really want her throwing up in my birth pool!!! Couldn't talk to her for long since DD was acting up and poor friend had to go throw up again, but I'll chat with her over the weekend and make sure she feels well enough to help out.

Anyway, I'll be back later to see who's managed to produce a leap year baby.

PS: Fitn41 - I think we must be late pregnancy twins, with our matching aches and pains and threats of imminent labour with nothing happening!! Annoying innit?

turtle23 · 29/02/2008 16:07

Congrats Piggy!!! How lovely! Love the name too.
Seems there are quite a few of us stuck in the BH, d+v, sore swollen boobs, fed up camp... guess this means I have weeks of it still to come? Grr.

I seem fortunate in not suffering too much at the moment beyond ongoing BH, a sore pelvis and needing to wee every 10 mins. It definitely feels like things are gearing up though - I didn't have any of those symptoms a week ago and the baby seems a lot more sensitive to things in the outside world, like he is preparing himself to join us. For example, I've just driven home from the supermarket and he seemed to get really upset and unsettled going over speedbumps which he has never even reacted to before. As there are speed bumps on all the roads round here, he had a very uncomfortable journey!

e14mum · 29/02/2008 16:19

Ooooh, congrats Brazilianmum and piggyp!!
I still have no internet at home, but the lovely cafe down the road is doing a roaring trade off me!

skidoodle · 29/02/2008 17:37

Wow.

Congratulations BrazilianMum and piggyp and welcome Sam and Emily

BM you're so right, Sam is the image of his Dad (if the proud man holding him in the pictures is David). He's so lovely, I probably shouldn't have opened the photos at work as they made me cry a little bit

piggyp I can't believe you're back on here so soon. wow lady, that's impressive I love the name Emily, it will be my LO's middle name if it's a girl. It's my Granny's name, so she'll be called after her.

I can't believe I've finally reached the last day of work! Almost, almost got my site launched. There's been a last-minute delay but I fulfilled my end of the bargain so I'm pleased and nobody can say I haven't worked my ass off to get it all ready. From now on I will be a lady of leisure like most of the rest of you guys. can't wait.

Here's hoping for some leap year respite from twinges and pains for everyone.

Hello just popping in from Feb thread. Was wondering if anyone has had a 29 Feb baby. None for us (yet). Really hoping somebody gets one. Good luck to you all and congrats to those already hatched .

derah · 29/02/2008 17:59

Aaargh, darned little one is bashing me seriosuly on the top of my cervix! Ow ow ow ow!! Perhaps she's knocking on the door cos she wants out?

spugs · 29/02/2008 18:22

piggy and brazillian mum congratulations on your babies love the names.

its march tomorrow girls so we'd better get busy

im busy working my way through a family pack of kinder chocolate bars [yum] figure its not to long till the diet will have to start so im going to make the most of it.

derah - you have my sympathy with the cervix thing, is the baby engaged? mine feels very low down but not to much cervix pain yet!

derah · 29/02/2008 19:51

Spugs - according to midwife yesterday, baby is 3/5 engaged, but I think she's bobbing in and out which is what hurts so frikkin' much!

aprilfoolsbaby · 29/02/2008 19:51

Huge congratulations piggyp and brazilianmum love both the names x

Thanks to all of you who posted about baby weights, it's really put my mind at rest.

I'm being visited every 2 days by the midwife to have my bp done. Have got a feeling it'll be sky high tomorrow as today was my last day at work and I was there longer than I anticipated. Does anyone know if bp is consistently high do they send you into hospital? Can you imagine 4 weeks in hospital??? I'll do anything to keep the baby safe, but that would drive me crazy - I'm a bit of a busy bee and there's nesting to be done.

Anyway it'll be nice to join in here a bit more and finally relax. Phew!

fitnfortyone · 29/02/2008 20:53

piggyp congratulations on your new arrival and for updating us so quickly.

Girls still outnumbering boys on the early arrivals!

derah, isn't the bouncing in and out stuff fun? I've discovered sensitive spots i never knew i had!!!

aprilfools, hopefully your BP won't be so high tomorrow for the very reason you won't be at work! Before my antenatal appointments I try to do some relaxation breathing just to make sure i'm destressed before they put the cuff on...breathe in for 4 and out for 6-8 and try breathing down to your tum rather than keeping the breath high in your chest...

I'm going to disconnect the phone soon, MIL just phoned again to find out if there was any news - she waited about 26 hours from last call to be told it's still not my due date... got DH fielding her calls now so i'm not rude to her!

Have one friend predicting LO will arrive sun/mon, and another predicts tues....so here's to things starting soon for real! At least I managed to catch up on my lost sleep from this morning with a nice doze this afternoon

monthlymayhem · 29/02/2008 20:55

Congratulations BM and Piggy and hello to Sam and Emily

It's great to read more positive birth stories!!

Aprilfoolsbaby - I've been told my bp is borderline as the bottom number (iykwim - can't remember if it's called the systolic one or not..) has been sitting close to 90. Apparently here, if it goes above 90 they would probably want me to go into the daycare unit and have my BP monitored over a couple of hours to get an average reading. The fact I've only had slightly puffy fingers but no other swelling, and no sign of protein in urine etc, means it should be fine, but if BP average was raised plus I had any other worrying signs such as swelling, headaches etc they would want to look into further. HTH x

aprilfoolsbaby · 29/02/2008 21:09

monthlymayhem - thanks for that. I was in hospital on Tuesday for the BP monitoring. It's the bottom number they look at during pregnanacy, Mine's been in 50s, 60s and 70s all the way along until 'the burst blood vessel in the eye episode' on Tuesday when it was between 85 and at one point in the hundreds. Yesterday it was 90. I was told categorically to finish work, which I've duly done. There's been no protein in urine though I have had frontal headaches which the mw seemed concerned about.

I'll ask tomorrow what they'll do if it doesn't go down. These things are always such a shock and you get so bombarded with questions and medical terminology that you think of the questions afterwards.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend - we're getting a new bathroom. RIP peach suite!

papaya · 29/02/2008 22:19

congrats piggyp and braziliamum!!!!!!!

MarchNowFebMum · 29/02/2008 23:23

Congrats piggyp, braziliam mum and glam! sounds like our little march LOs don't mind being a bit early!

All going well here, just extremely intense with feeding -- and so hard to keep up with mumsnet!!! And last night I developed mastitis which is crazy painful and requires me to express on breast so not a lot of time between feeds.

I started our postnatal thread which we can use when all pop - see here Birth stories can go on either thread.

Speaking of, I still haven't posted mine. Water broke with no contractions on Monday night at around 7:30 pm. Because of Group B positive, they asked me to come in. Bc of no contractions, they suggested I be induced. I was like hell no! So we asked them to give us an hour to go home and get some stuff before they did that (we live v. close). It was a total lie - we didn't come back for three hours and by the time I was back in the ward my contractions had started fast and furious! I had the antibiotics for Group B in the labour ward and then insisted on being sent back to the birthing centre for my desired water birth. When I got there I was only 2 cm dilated and so they wanted to send me back to labour to get induced which thankfully we, with the doula's help fought and they agreed to keep me for a few more hours upcn which labour progressed quickly. I got in the pool at about 2 AM and started gas and air and it was wonderful!!! At 6, I started the heavy pushing and she was born at 8:30. I found the labour got mentally easier to handle as it progressed and by the end I felt so strong and in control, I even went off the gas and air for the last hour. The last 3 pushes (2 for head and 1 for body) were the best, I stood up at the side of the pool with the doula and and the midwife and dh went down and caught the baby between my legs. When I looked down at her, she looked exactly how I pictured she would and so pink! Apparently it's the oxygen - am thinking about getting an entonox canister for home use :.) I had no tearing at all, did some skin to skin before handing her to dh and then he took off his shirt and held her (and bawled like a baby - she didn't cry!!) while I delivered the placenta naturally (did you know they weigh it by the way? creepy!).

A couple of thoughts:

I was pleased to have the birth I wanted with the nhs but we had to fight for it at two critical junctures. Had we not, I feel I would have had very different experience.

We had nothing ready - our hospital bag was a mess - but have been coping fine (she's still sleeping in her pram basket which we took off and have on the floor!). The one thing I was so thankful I had put together was my 'recovery kit' - I would suggest carrying it around with you starting now! In it I had some of the earth mama stuff suggested by braziliam mum, sitz spray, tea tree oil for a sitz bath, moist toilet tissues (you won't be friends with real toilet paper for about a week) and maternity pads. Lifesaver. A few hours after the birth I also had dh run out adn get frozen peas which I sat on for an hour and that really helped with swelling. I used all this stuff religiously and felt almost 100% normal down there in about a week.

And on that note, sorry for long post!

MarchNowFebMum · 29/02/2008 23:39

PS also sorted out my profile page so pics now up of LO (who by the way, still does not have a name, more on that later!)

fitnfortyone · 01/03/2008 00:19

MNFMum, great story and well done on sticking up for what you wanted re induction etc. Out of curiosity, why stand up for the birth itself, did you feel that was the best position or was it suggested to you? Love the photos!

derah · 01/03/2008 00:55

Oh lordy, I'm in labour! Waters broke at 11:15 (same time as DD, LOL!) with a loud pop. No big gush though, just occasional trickles. Had one contraction before that but since I've had so many pains, didn't think much of it. But now contractions are here for real, still very irregular but they were irregular last time too. I'm sure they weren't this painful so early on last time though.

Have popped a couple of paracetamol, tried to sleep but far too painful (and LO is bouncing harder than ever on my bladder between contractions). So I've given up, and am going to watch some TV with a cup of hot chocolate and my TENS machine on!

Aaargh, panic! Am I really ready for another baby? LOL, too late to worry about that, I guess!!

PurlyQueen · 01/03/2008 00:58

Crumbs! Best of luck derah
