New thread to fill with birth stories

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JayneF · 10/03/2008 22:32

Oh great,..but no need to factor in child care because you will deliver whilst simultaneously looking after DD (teching ther O level French) thereby being even more fab than was previously predicted!!

CricketsMum · 10/03/2008 22:46

Good luck ibblewob! At least you know that the end (or the beginning!) is now in sight.

Turtle I would be doing more than fantasising if my hubby said something like that at the moment so think you are being very restrained.

JayneF - am loving the stories!! Am frozen Cream Eggs sound like a stroke of genius!

Seem to have just about scared away any impending labour-type activity from LO who is back to kicking away merrily and has stopped silly contraction-type activity - for now at least. (BTW no one is allowed to remind me that I was willing labour not to start when I am 2 weeks overdue and being threatened with induction! )

JayneF · 10/03/2008 22:55

Mmm, CricketsMum, my LO has done EXACTLY the same tonight. Couldnot walk at 4 pm, but now, nothing! Trip to fridge is soooo much easier!

I ought to remember, as DS is only 17mths old, but I cannot (age thing), exactly recall what contractions feel like so I cannot really sort out what is going on in there. Now I suspect the bike ride on my new mountain bike is responsible for the pain and not little Can't Come Won't Come.

SpaceHopperHayls · 11/03/2008 04:57

Piggyp - Ffion has slept for five - six hours before waking for a feed for the past four nights. Because she fed last at tenish, I am up now, but it is my first 'weesmall hours' feed since last Thurs. I say as long as you are getting 7/8+ feeds in over 24 hours, just enjoy the sleep.

I am just not managing to sleep when she does, but think I am getting just enoug at night to function...all those years as a student were good training!

Glam - you weren't stupid to listen to the midwives...it's they who were stpid for giving you such suspect advice. I was told the same thing because little Ff was sleepy and jaundiced at three days - stood my ground because MIL (midwife for 40 years, very high in NCT and BF circles) told me she was absolutely fine and to just carry on offering the breast. She passed her birthweight at day 8...It must be nice to actually SEE how much he is eating though, and you definitely have an excuse for loads of cuddles.

Good luck ibblewob - I know it is easy to say sat here with my lovely litle girl suckling happily, but my induction wasn't that bad. Totally do-able.

timmyinatizzy · 11/03/2008 08:41

Little Ducks - Glad everything went ok for you and was not too stressful.

Had a midwife appt yesterday. I'm now 40+3, and Junior is still 3/5 engaged as he was 2 weeks ago . Little sod really is hanging on in there!

March mum - Sanam is a lovely name. Especially as it has a lovely meaning for you.

Right off to take the dsd's to school now.

imjin100 · 11/03/2008 10:27

morning all...still here, with ever growing bump! Had some acupuncture this morning in vague attempt to do something! He said most babies come thursday or friday wierdly....apparently they know it's more convenient for people. I'm holding out for that as will otherwise have to battle to avoid being induced over the weekend. Am off to the hospital tomorrow for monitoring and scan and we'll take it from there!
Personally can't complain as feeling fine, sleep is something of a mystery but can take the days easy so not so bad - even went to the cinema yesterday afternoon - seriously decandent and bliss! Feel for those of you in pain and with other small ones - must be really hard work at this stage. I languish in the luxury in the meantime but thinking of you.
will post again soon - assuming the acupuncture doesn't achieve goal of popping tonight!

littleducks · 11/03/2008 11:28

imjin- dd was a thursday baby! not sure about convenience though

timmy-thank you

just got back from tumble tots, and apparently the leader women and a few mums only cottoned on i was pregnant today, hmmm so they must have thought that for months i was just whinging when i struggled getting up and down at circle time. some very faces when i said i was due in two weeks.

dd is napping so i think i should cuddle up to her and get some sleep.

oh and anyone know if you can make thai green cury (am loving veggies one atm) and freeze? am not used to cooking withh cocnut milk...

JayneF · 11/03/2008 11:51

Update for late gals!

Septic Peg (Mumsnets answer to Mystic Meg) ie me... did not predict own commencement of contractions today. Currently mild cramping every ten minutes. DH running about like Jones from an episode of Dad's Army, "Don't Panic, Don't Panic".....no dear, as you will see I am very calm! Ommmm.

Have sent him off to take DS to ML and he will be at least 2 hrs. Bliss, just had a cup of rasberry leaf tea and a frozen creme egg....thankfully no further, ehem, political dreams!

Keen to know how Merry Berry and Ibblewobs are doing. Little Ducks has ou ache eased?

imjin100 · 11/03/2008 11:59

jaynef - how exciting for you - good luck and I hope they progress as they should. Adore vision of DH and suspect our house will be the same should I actually ever go into labour.
Positive vibes to one and all....

off to take a homeopathic pile in another attempt washed down with some biscuits - they definitely have induction written all over them.

fitnfortyone · 11/03/2008 12:02

jaynef how dare you queue jump those patiently waiting in line!!!

i predict you skip straight to transition stage after slipping on arrival at hospital on a mound of frozen creme eggs, which is captured on camera by Hello and OK, who then have a bidding war over first photos of you giving birth to a giant egg. You are presented with a silver spoon to tap the egg open and lo and behold, your baby arrives in the world on a feather duvet.

baby news!

fitnfortyone · 11/03/2008 12:08

quick update on yesterday - went to holistic person fully intending to have either reflexology or kinesiology to prompt LO out, but ended up with kinesiology to clear a past life experience for me! Apparently 5 lifetimes ago i had a baby born too early, so this has followed me though to current life with me reluctant to release the baby into the world....

Did some affirmations as well, and have some TFT tapping things to release fear, so fingers crossed for cervix opening asap!

Still waiting in for the m/w to check me, hope bp is better today but suspect it's higher...sigh.

JayneF · 11/03/2008 12:26

Hi fit, officially handing prediction role over to you!! Might even tap Cadburys for some sponsorship if Baby's head is egg shaped...got to be an easter story there somewhere!! Sorry to push in though!!

Am I right in thinking this is your first honey? If so, just let me say, there is nothing to fear in childbirth, it is amazing. My tip is to imagine that with every contraction you move closer to your prize,...never to think of how many there are left to go, only how far (and therefore how much closer to said prize) you have come.

Got to go,..DH on phone for third time. Perhaps I should tease him and answer with a great long groan followed by a whimpering cry sound...hee hee!

fitnfortyone · 11/03/2008 12:48

yep, first one...not afraid of the birth part exactly as i've been determined to have homebirth from the start, more a fear/phobia of being in hospital and being induced as it's a loss of control thing...Am seriously considering asking to go straight to csection rather than go through induction!

And don't think that being in early stages of labour will get you out of doing more predictions, you started it, you'll have to stay and finish them or pop back inbetween pushes

JayneF · 11/03/2008 12:58

I agree with how you feel about induction thing, I am booked in for Friday, which may or may not happen (contractions slowed right down,...predict repeat of Merry Berry's labour but my little darling pops out playing a banjo).

I think the Sooty and Sweep Show is the next stage for me rather than full on induction...but will just play it by ear.

Good luck with home birth plan,..not my cup of tea at all I must say but then as I live on a Farm, the thought of a nice clean hospital where wellies are banned is too much to resist!! I have a phobia of coming back and dogs not fed/watered, sheep rustled, horses bolted andDH dredging the septic tank for missing DS!!!

Hey, I must say though I am so astonished and pleased to see how many older first time mothers there are,...makes me feel very proud of women generally.

fitnfortyone · 11/03/2008 13:11

hah, nice "clean" hospital? Not round here, MRSA heaven! Thanks for reminding me, have to sort out dog-walking contingency plans if i'm admitted....doh!

MissingMyHeels · 11/03/2008 14:19

My very best friend just called me and she is pregnant I am SOO thrilled as I don't have lots of friends with babies. She is only 5 weeks gone though so hoping it is all ok for her.

Certainly taken my mind off of being overdue! Am on my second Fab ice lolly of the day, I am so hungry at the moment.

fitnfortyone · 11/03/2008 14:25

bugger - off to hospital for monitoring again, bp 155/100 on second reading.

MissingMyHeels · 11/03/2008 14:26

Oh no fitnfortyone - hope it calms down a bit, make sure you take a book or ipod or something that you can escape in. Good luck

CricketsMum · 11/03/2008 15:50

Am only just realising how hormonally balanced I have been for the last 8.5 months (no, seriously) having just managed to reduce myself to tears about a skirting board (don't ask). Think I may have overdone things on the decorating front yesterday as am shattered today. Was contemplating painting a window frame but decided an afternoon nap was more the order of the day and hubby has just called to say his off-site meeting has finished early so he'll be home soon - going to make him come for a nice walk in the sunshine to help cheer me up!

JayneF welcome to the world of potential false alarms! Hope things move forwards for you! And FN41 surely your LO is getting bored in there by now? Hope BP sorts itself out...

MumOfBillyTheKid · 11/03/2008 15:53

Hi all

Been lurking/reading lately but not had much to say. Consistent contraction vibes to those who are on/off at the mo! Get well vibes to those with bruises (littleducks) and any with sickness etc. and labour vibes to those overdue/wanting their LO out now!

Just had 39 wk checkup - I'm joining the high BP ones of you - mine is up to 120/90 (which is high for me - normally 110/70) so MW coming back tomorrow to check again. Told me to go straight to Poole Hospital tonight if anything starts rather than Bournemouth MW led unit - bummer! Let's hope it's just up due to hearing the planning application for our extension has just been turned down - I'm so annoyed and frustrated about that. Our heating/bigger bathroom and kitchen was all dependent on it going through. Will now need to re-think (or see about appealing)... just not today - MW orders are to put feet up and get a takeaway tonight!

3madboys · 11/03/2008 16:13

how can there be no more babies yet?

any news from merryberry?

hope everyones blood pressure lowers and stops causing problems.

i am now 11days overdue, went for a ctg yesterday and all good, midwife gave me a sweep and i am 2cm dilated and everything looking ready to go, baby engaged in good postion etc, it just wont seem to kick off.

have an app on fri when i will be 14days over, will have ctg and scan and discuss options, they are happy to break my waters and get things going if i want but obv that means no home birth so i really want to hold off on that if possible, but at the same time i have the other three boys to consider and i am getting a bit fed up

Jaysthird · 11/03/2008 16:18

still here..!

JayneF · 11/03/2008 16:25

Hello gals!!

Corporal Jones (DH) came back from dropping off son at Grandmas. We went for an afternoon nap,...yes, DH not son,....meanwhile contractions ceased...

Just thought of a good way to decrease BP if it creeps up,...rip off skirting board and attend to Corporal Jones with it!

3 Mad boys..your plan sounds good. Tell me about the Sooty and Sweep Show. Not had one before, have you with your other? Did it work? ANd is this one another mad boy?!

littleducks · 11/03/2008 16:33

FROZEN CREME EGGS!!!! might stop me scoffing them so fast! but i ate the two dh bought me today already and feel to tired to go shopping...oh yes thats why i was online, to finish internet shopping order, ooops better get off mumsnet before im sucked in.

turtle23 · 11/03/2008 16:34
