Those of you with toddlers, how are they adapting to your new addition and the changing family dynamics? Mine is really struggling and it's so emotionally exhausting and heartbreaking at the same time 🥺

SavedByGraceAlone · 14/06/2023 15:05

Hi everyone, long time no speak!!! How is everyone doing? I'm not on the whatsapp chat (could I still be added?) so don't know any arrival news other than the below. Congratulations to everyone welcoming their babies. My baby boy arrived 2 weeks early through an unexpected induction, 60 hours of waiting and labouring - ending in an unplanned caesarean! All is well now, thank God.

Baby boy is now 10 weeks old.

The past few days, since last Friday, ha s been really weird though. He's been excessively sleepy during the day (hasn't slept much during the day previously, been very alert). Hard to wake up and when awake less energetic than before: less active tummy time, less cooing. Nappies/feeds are normal. Not vaccines related as we've had those already.

When I first noticed it last Friday I took him to the a&e where they did observations and said all normal.

Has anyone else seen this? It's strange to complain about him sleeping more, but it's a sudden change and am worried something is off.

@SavedByGraceAlone probably weather related, I'm a lot less energetic and more lethargic in the heat and it is a heatwave.

SearchingTheSkies · 16/06/2023 19:59

@SavedByGraceAlone Hello! Congrats on your baby boy! It's reassuring that A and E found nothing concerning. I'd give it a couple days and see how he is then. I've had a couple of very sleepy days randomly crop up with dd. I think it might be due to the heat or a big leap in development. She's sleeping on me right now when usually she'd be screaming at this time of the evening. Hopefully you'll see a return to 'normal' soon, but I'd see gp if you still feel concerned in a couple days.

SavedByGraceAlone · 17/06/2023 05:23

@SearchingTheSkies and @Margo34 - thank you both!

He seems more alert past couple of days. And indeed we've had a new big development come through - he's laughing!! Perhaps this is what he's been working on during all this sleep 😴😍

Margo34 · 11/08/2023 07:21

How is everyone getting on as we approach the 4m mark 😍😬 time is just flying!

SearchingTheSkies · 11/08/2023 09:13

@Margo34 Morning! Time really is flying. Dd is already 4 months and rolling all the time now. Very fun to watch. She's more settled in the evenings thank goodness but her nighttime sleep is pretty rubbish. She wants to be feeding virtually all night long and I'm lucky if I can get 2 hours of proper sleep without her on me. I just keep telling myself it won't last forever. How are things with you and your little one?

Would love to hear how everyone else is getting on.

Margo34 · 11/08/2023 09:50

@SearchingTheSkies Ahhh, well done your little one for rolling! Mine isn't quite there yet but absolutely dotes on the big sibling who spent about half an hour yesterday rolling around the playmat like a loon trying to get baby to copy, much to baby's amusement 😆
Baby keeps the biggest smiles for big sibling, it's so a meltingly sweet! The sound of toddler voice lights up baby's face too and baby is the first one toddler asks to see upon waking up/coming home from nursery! 😍

Naps in the day are very fluid and depend largely on the toddlers mood whether compliantly quiet and not poking baby, but night sleep isn't too bad. Generally baby stirs but doesn't wake for feeds at night. Bedtime 7, stirs around 1030/11pm then again around 2/3, 5/6 up by 730am.
But I'm expecting it to all change very soon as, like you say it doesn't last!
