Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Slacker · 27/01/2008 22:14

Welcome to retrodolly - don't be terrified of birth, just be well informed so you don't have things sprung on you that you haven't considered. (wish someone had given me that advice before I had my first)

Beansprout - good name you've picked there, I have one of those myself (DS3)! Couldn't you have been wheeled outside to see DS1? Although I suppose that wouldn't have been the best place to catch up with himm isnt' the front door of a hospital where all the smokers hang out...

Countto10, I'm having similar pain first thing in the morning, I think everything stiffens up overnight and it takes me a few minutes to get going. It's when I can hear my ligaments (or something) twanging that it bothers me, more the anticipation of the pain than the actual pain!

Re 3 year age gaps - I found that my best gap (have 2yr, 4yr and 3yr), and DS3 and DD are still really good together aged 4 and 7....get them helping you with fetching things like nappies or toys and they can feel really involved...

Egg, sounds like you're all doing well, if they wake at the same time to feed can't you feed them simultaneously then? Or do they only take bottles if they're being held? Have no experience of twins or bottles so can't quite imagine! You made me laugh with your comments on my bump pic btw, thought I'd show off my stretchmarks by posing in my bra! Also look marginally less huge than with a top on...

Sally - I had a Hugabub last time, it was fine although I didn't get round to using it for the first month by which time DD was too big for the peapod position (is that what they call it? the sideways one). also could never have it tight enough to get baby in and out throughout the day, always had to retie it. So not quite as user friendly as I'd hoped. Hoping to get by with a pouch sling this time, also might get another Wilkinet as that's the only one DH has ever liked babywearing in.

Finally got the birthpool up - god it's complicated with the heater and filter and stuff but we had a good time relaxing in it yesterday with the little ones, who think it's great to have a swimming pool in the living room! Midwife's coming tomorrow so hopefully she can fill me in on the finer points of pool maintenance.

Also bought a new camera today, our first ever digital SLR, so we can get some good pics of the baby and the birth. Hopefully the second midwife won't have anything else to do but take pics, last time DS1 was handed a camcorder when he came in at the last minute, but no one turned it on till after the birth! Not that I want to sit around watching birth videos but would like to have it recorded for posterity...

I don't feel anywhere near having this baby (39 weeks today) so fingers crossed I don't; I have a busy week lined up and so does DH, don't want any mad cross-country dashes cos I've suddenly gone into labour!

Better get to bed, sleep deprivation doesn't suit me at all!

tyaca · 28/01/2008 01:16

evening (well, morning...) all. think we're going to have to include the word "impatient" in the next thread title .

all fine here. DH worked over weekend, so feel a bit like the week morphed into the weekend and i've got to get off my butt next week, get out house more and see people, otherwise, i'm going to go some kind of crazy. have written a daily to do list god knows the odds of me sticking to it! was thinking i should meditate on the list each morning ... i kid you not!

re pampering and tweaking and buffing etc, know the feeling! NEED to do anything to feel less like a frumpy bump on legs, plus there's the pics of course

giving up work has meant that posh hairdos are no longer on the cards... not good when au naturel the only thing worse than my mouse/ginger colour is the messy frizz the mop turns into without a decent cut BUT... in an unsually thiftful and resourceful manner, i've found a great thread on gumtree where trainee hairdressers post looking for models. so have two appointments booked for cut and colour at Toni & Guy in Knightsbridge. the colour is booked for 13 days before due date... which is GOOD cause no roots in pics, but could be BAD cause... y'know ... potential of giving birth, hassle of struggling across town etc etc.

now that i know my baby is normal sized and my bump is too small, i've become OBSESSED with the discomfort of it all. poor DH, whenever he's actually at home, has had to put up with a whole lot of huffing and puffing melodramtics as LO shifts into the most uncomfortable positions.

on behalf of all the late-febbers, i'm going to ask all on the thread to take the following oath... "i, feb thread mumsnetter, do most solemnly swear not to forget about all the late febbers, including those who dont end up popping til march... even when my LO is here and i may have other, slightly more pressing concerns, i vow to check in on them and keep the feb-bing alive..."

jooseyfruit · 28/01/2008 05:03

"Happy due date to me,
happy due date to me.......etc etc!!"

Had a show last night, nothing since. Although i think the head feels engaged (again!)

ExpectingKat · 28/01/2008 07:05

ExpectingKat - good luck! Look forward to hearing good news from you soon!

Slacker - we did ask if I could go and see ds outside/downstairs but they said no way.

Tyaca - don't worry, late Febbers will not be forgotten!! Ds1 was due on the 5th and arrived on the 25th and I remember only too well that feeling of being "overtaken" and left behind! And it's pants!! We will stick around until we are all popped!!

JF - happy due date!!

Morning to everyone else!!

sarahmikeandharry · 28/01/2008 08:14

Morning all.

Hoping to be in labour very soon, really want a baby now instread of this huge uncomfortable bump!!!!!!

Have a great day everyone,

Speak soon!!!

Egg · 28/01/2008 09:03

Good luck Kat. Can't wait to hear of more twin babies arriving safe and sound!

Just back from taking DS1 to nursery on my own. Had DS2 in Baby Bjorn and the others in the Powertwin and it was FAB. Ok DS1 wanted to walk but decided not to risk lettin him as a bit of a struggle to get him in and out of pushchair with DS2 strapped to me!

Back later to chat properly, DD is waking to be fed right on cue (figured she would wake at 9am...) .

rozzyraspberry · 28/01/2008 10:09

Good luck expecting kat!!!!!

Slacker - I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't feel quite ready to give birth yet. I'm still sleeping ok and not too uncomfortable so happy for lo to stay inside for a little bit longer. Bought paint for the hall last week so hoping DH will get that done before lo arrives. Off for my 38 week check in a mo so will find out if he's dropped yet as he was still at brim a few weeks back.

mymissus · 28/01/2008 10:34

Hi there everyone

Have had a couple of down days so have just been lurking as there seems to be no real reason for my feeling miserable...he tiniest things have set me off.

Can't remember who has the back pains and its on the last page so I'll lose this if I check. I've got just the same - I feel like I need a zimmer frame to walk. Also the pressure all seems to be to the back of my pelvis rather than the front - which is where I assumed the pain would be. I've got a lot of movement around my belly button, so maybe LO has turned back to back again and is pummelling my stomach!!

Hope everyone is ok - can't wait to hear Gill's news, and congratulations to Beansprout and Theo (gorgeous name)

Egg · 28/01/2008 10:52

Ooh Gill texted last night. She is still in hospital (only had c-section on Friday so not surprised). Think she not getting much sleep but otherwise all is well. Yes it was a boy and they had not decided on a name (lucky I didn't announce his name as the surname ). If I hear any more I will let you know.

Going to bed in a mo as my lovely doula is here and DS1 is at nursery and I only got about 3 hours last night [yawn].

Also good luck with your appointment tommorrow!!!!

We are all very quiet today!!!!!

Pk616 · 28/01/2008 14:33

Hiya ladies,
I'm still bloody prgnant! I'm not ready for the baby at all but I am ready to not be struggling to put my bleedin socks on! I've just seen MIL off at the bus stop. She's spent ages with her arthritic hands crocheting a baby shawl for me which I really really appreciate but it's white! She's known me for over 3 years, I don't do large expanses of white! I like my colours nice bold proper colours! My mom could never clothe me in whites, creams and pastels because of my skin tone(I have olive skin). They just made me look washed out and ill and I suspect the same will be for my baby. Mind you the woman thinks my dark haired baby girl is going to be a carrot topped boy (DP and SIL were both born with shockingly bright red hair) so I guess that's what she's working on! I sound so ungrateful don't I. I'm not I just don't know how much use I'll get out of the thing and that's what bothers me. I hate waste. Ah ha, I've just had an idea! I think it might just save the day! I'm gonna weave brightly coloured ribbon through it. I think that'll work a treat!
I'm sorting out the baby clothes at the moment. We've been given so much in little dribs and drabs for the last five months or so that I just stopped bothering to sort out sizes ect. I've just been going through and we've not only got MASSES of baby grows (most of which are pastel pink, grrr! but it doesn't matter warmth is what matters) but our baby will be clothed for a whole year! Yep that's right I've got sooooooooooo many bay clothes in sizes I don't NEED to buy anything until the baby grows out of the 9 - 12 month sized stuff! How good is that! That's not gonna stop me buying the baby some really nice stuff though, as and when the money comes in!
Sorry there are no individual responses. DP had full control of the PC all weekend again so there's masses to catch up on there and I'm just not comfortable sitting in the computer chair anymore.
Some one new is here retrodolly, welcome
Gill - don't know if I congratulated you yet so CONGRATULATIONS
joosey - happy due date
can't remember any of the others, sorry!
oh and still waiting for the arrival of the cot bed. But I have faith that it'll be here some day soon.
off for a leg stretch now
ttyl

SallyInYorkshire · 28/01/2008 14:48

Hello everyone!

retrodolly - welcome!

jooseyfruit - happy due date! hope LO arrives soon!

slacker - thanks for sharing your experience of hugabub - I did wonder how long the peapod-tying thing would actually work for. I reckon my LO is going to be a big 'un so will just have to wait and see!

Countto10 and mymissus - I'm getting exactly the same thing! It is the pain in the back of my pelvis in the evening / at night that is the worst, it's just like the same pain I was getting early on when everything was expanding inside my pelvis but hadn't popped out into the belly area yet! It was REALLY bad yesterday after standing up for 40mins to cook the tea. But the bizarre thing was, just before going to bed last night I did some of the stretching exercises we've been doing in pregnancy pilates class, and the pain just vanished!

tyaca - by late feb I will be on my mat leave and going stir crazy in the house (DH will have the car) so I think the frequency of posting from me will increase!!!

Egg · 28/01/2008 15:38

Without sounding smug I really do feel for you if you are getting fed up and impatient... Even though I get less sleep now and less free time, I feel so much better and can sleep on my tummy / back, put socks on without a problem, see to tidy the lady garden etc etc. And just to have the energy to go up the stairs without collapsing at the top.

Ah well, at least there's one thing for certain, all those babies will come out one day .

Today so far has been good, am sure it will fall apart about 4:30 when I have to collect DS. Babies are fed and supposed to be sleeping but are lying awake looking at each other (ahhh). Got to get them up about 4:15 to get ready for nursery run. Trouble is they will need feeding soon after we get home and that's when I want to spend some time with DS1. I think some crackers and cbeebies will be in order to keep him happy, and he can sit with me on the sofa while I feed.

PK, I have bought lots of stuff in white and cream this time as then it can be transferred from baby to baby (poor DD has been dressed as a boy a few times as sometimes the only things that have been clean and dry and small enough were blue), but I do think lovely BRIGHT colours are fab, and to be honest the pastel blue and pink stuff soooooo clashes with my pushchair.

Did I mention that I love my Powertwin?

Am in two minds now about opening the Hug a Bub when it arrives as the Baby Bjorn worked fine this morning for DS2 and it will only be a very rare occasion when DH and I are likely to use two slings.

Welcome to retrodolly (fab name!). Try not to be scared! It really isn't that bad giving birth, honest . OK so it hurts, but you can have an epidural if you like, and someone said to me if you think of each contraction as getting you one step closer to meeting your BABY it makes it easier. And if you use gas and air (oh wonderful stuff!) just don't stop breathing it in to shout "it hurts" or "I can't do this anymore" as it stops working as soon as you stop breathing it in (I learnt that lesson first time round...). I had Rescue Remedy both times too, which may or may not have helped but I really did feel quite calm until the final half hour and even then not too bad. You can put a few drops in water and sip it, or put some on your tongue.

mymissus, sorry you are feeling crap, hope things pick up soon, I felt my crappest a few days before going into labour.... and then felt fab for a couple of days!

Ruva, good luck tomorrow, sorry I can't remember will this scan say whether you definitely need a c-section or not?

Am sure I am missing lots of people out, but had better post before I delete this accidentally.

Oh shite. SOMEONE IS CRYING upstairs. It is a small pathetic cry so must be DD .

Jo9977 · 28/01/2008 15:39

Welcome retrodolly!

Egg · 28/01/2008 15:59

oooooh Gill is just waiting to be checked out from hospital! Hopefully we will get news later of a NAME for her little boy!

Surely it is time for some more babies, it's been DAYS.........................

tyaca · 28/01/2008 16:29

ahh. so much for getting stuff done this week and meditating in front of my "to do" list. no sleep til gone 5am this morning, so woke up at midday and missed prep for labour class.

a big welcome to retrodolly. come join our popping party

pk, i'm not a big one for neutrals or pastels. nowt to do with skintone (i'm so pale, i'm basically transparent) more just that i like bold stuff. my SIL's maternity nurse has really strong opinions on this and bizzarely always dresses my newborn neice in pastels only. she doesn't think anything else is suitable for a baby! i do like your cot too. we finally got round to getting one last week, a mamas and papas one off ebay for £50. v pleased with thriftiness.

egg, it is so lovely to hear about life with the twins. you sound very happy (and calm, i have to say!). it made me smile to see how much you posted on the first day your mum/doula wasn't around

mymissus, v sorry to hear you've had a couple of low days. i know the feeling. i'm not low as such, but cant stop worrying about stuff.

re slings, i think i'm going to give the hotpouches one a go.

Pk616 · 28/01/2008 16:43

Egg - lol @ "to be honest the pastel blue and pink stuff soooooo clashes with my pushchair"

ty - your SIL's mat nurse sounds like a loon tbh! why on earth can't a baby wear something colourful? Daft woman! Ah well it takes all sorts to make a world

manamana · 28/01/2008 17:10

Am feeling v proud of myself. have just phoned my mum and said 'i don't have the energy for this anymore lets just be friends', had to bite my tongue a lot despite it being a very short conversation but tis done now and i feel like i've been the grown-up and done the best thing for my family. Decided last night that there was no point in expecting her to be supportive etc so i could either back down or stick to my guns and worry about more conflict right up until baby born. Phew, feel a bit teary cos she has let me down but c'est la vie, gotta focus on my new family.

Onto more fun things, my bug in a rug thing www.babyrug.co.uk arrived today and i love it! Its my only major baby purchase this time round partly because we're expecting another ds although I'm sure if i'd actually been ableto get to the shops i would have found something i 'needed'! Its actually making me feel broody which is a result as I can't get myself excited about imminent arrival at the mo - just fed-up of pain etc.

Sorry to hear some of you are getting more pain, yep sounds similar to the SPD pain i've been having for past 3 (i can't believe its been so long!) months. I can't really move in bed now without it being complete agony but am also trying not to sit too much as pressure on piles is beginning to hurt! and i need to keep feet up as they keep puffing up! It just all seems a bit ridiculous now! Am just keeping my fingers crossed that I can get through the next 6 days without any other major probs!

Take care all x

tyaca · 28/01/2008 18:45

ooooh, i love the look of the bug in the rug! for no good reason, the picture on that website always reminds me of the bit in the film Jack and Sarah where Richard E Grant puts the baby in a jiffy bag

i think i may get one (bug in a rug, not jiffy bag) but not sure what they're for. are they like celluar/swaddling blankets? something for sleeping, or taking baby out?
