HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Not sure it'll be a quiet one for any of us, but good all the same!! Also in bed before midnight, fell asleep on sofa at 2230, went to bed at 1130 and woken up at 0000 by DH to say happy new year and quick peck - bless! Hope you all had a good one.

Also not on list, but pretty new to this thread. will keep an eye on the advice you're given Scottish!

Enjoy the day!

Min912 · 01/01/2008 12:01

Oof, am feeling as if I were hungover this morning - grrr - obviously didn't drink and fell asleep about 11 but then got woken up by a) people letting off fireworks for what seemed like bloomin' ages at midnight and then b) DS woke at about 4.30am as he has this terrible tickly cough at the moment, wakes himself up and then gets all upset and can't get back to sleep. It took us an hour and a half to get him back to sleep, in the end we had to run the bath and sit with him in the steamy bathroom til he calmed down enough. All 3 of us knackered this morning! And I feel sick!!!

whomovedmychocolate - welcome and congrats! Not to sound really naive and stupid but I'm curious to know how you knew you were pg if no AF? And also not to sound like some kind of stalker type but I live in Oxon so have been looking recently at the local talk board - have even posted a message about meeting up that as yet no-one has replied to - had a look at your public profile (I remember your name, I am a chocoholic). Our DS is very similar age to your DD. Good to know someone else is going for the same age gap!

isaidno · 01/01/2008 14:43

Happy new year! I took my Christmas tree down this morning - I am officially unfestive now, and want my house back to normal! Just leaving a few things up until 6th Jan to beat superstition!

If you're not on the list feel free to add yourself! (Just cut and paste it then put yourself on - don't retype it!!)

santascRUMPELedsuit · 01/01/2008 15:26

Hi All - Happy New Year!

PIGLEY and KITTY - great news

MINKUS - try Lycopodium homeopathic remedy for constipation - also dramatically increase your Vit C intake as it is a laxative in large amounts!

PTIYPASI - I don't know anyone here yet either- we just moved in July and I havent' had the time/made the effort to take LO to toddly group yet to meet folk. TBH I really can't be arsed when pg with polite conversation as I just feel awful most of the time.

MIN912 - As far as I am aware it is very healthy for your LO to be left to entertain themselves form time to time. It helps to build their imagination and teaches then self-awareness - so I wouldn't feel guilty. They need to learn that Mummy can't always be around after all. You'd be making a rod for your own back if you were all things to everyone all of the time! I do know what you mean though as my Lo is left to her own devices a fair bit at the moment. I am usually sitting immobile on the sofa praying for the nausea to go away whispering in the bucket DH is off at the mo' so they are spending 'qaulity' time together

Was in bed at 8.30pm last night (been feeling really sick again the last 3 days), fast asleep then awoken by bloody fireworks at midnight Grrrr! I really think they should be banned (except for organised diplasy). Were so loud the windows were shaking and the bass was making my heart flutter. Finally got to sleep (with the help of ear plugs) then LO woke at 5.30am needing cuddles and milk - still lay in my pit until 10am this morning

Went for emergency acupuncture yesterday as felt so bad. My usual person is off for a month so went to one of those - DR and Herbs places. Am feeling better today so did the job.

My life seems to consist at the mop' of feeling hellish and being unable to function - then when feeling okay rushing around like a maddie trying to wash, tidy up, iron , clean etc whilst I can!!!

I've got my first appoinment with midwife team on Thursday - not sure what the score is here yet. Am thinking history, bloods, urine sample. Scan next Thursday - baby must be okay though as feeling so yucky. Just need to make sure all bits are where they should be and I will feel much better too!

GIANT post - sorry. Good luck to all the others who have scans soon.xxx

santascRUMPELedsuit · 01/01/2008 15:28

Sorry forgot to say hi to - WHOMOVEDMYCHOCOLATE - I've seen you on other threads too - name to remember. There are quite a few of us with LOs at 13, 14, 15 months on this thread now.

sweetkitty · 01/01/2008 17:17

Pigley - great news on your scan I am not as organised as to have LO's scan uploaded onto the PC yet, although it does have pride of place on the side of the fridge

Our NYE was good, DD2 was terrible yesterday think she had a temperature as she wasn't herself and screamed most of the day, she finally went down at 9pm and I felt like joining her but we had a few games of Scrabble and watched TV then opened the champagne which was lovely made my one glass last an hour. DD1 was woken by the fireworks, I finally went to bed at 1am then DD2 was up at 3am for an hour crying. Have really suffered for it today although had a nap in the afternoon.

Whomovedmychocolate - hello and welcome I am sure I already "know" you

Rumple - glad the accupuncture worked I am trying to keep in my head that the MS should pass soon

Min912 - it's hard having ill LOs as well as feeling rough yourself hope you managed to get some rest today as well

ScottishSusuan - just add yourself we don't have any sort of etiquette on here

Ally - sorry to see you leave us for August theres NO WAY I will be joining you on an August post natal thread, I'm too early on in July and as I am refusing to go overdue I will be having a baby in July. DP asked what date would suit me I said the 1st will do me fine.

Happy 2008 to you all, we are going to have a baby this year

isaidno · 01/01/2008 17:23

lol sweetkitty - I also refuse to go overdue! ds1 bday is day before the due date, so I want a June baby really - 38 weeks would be ideal!

I plan on jumping up and down eating curry from week 37....

Mummywannabe · 01/01/2008 18:12

Kitty and pigleychez - so very happy for your both. Congratulations

Have my scan on Thursday, not long now!

Just had very nice lunch at in-laws, had to spend 10 minutes explaining that yes i know one glass of wine won't hurt but i don't want one! arggghhh! They mean well!

Back to work tomorrow, glad only got one more day till scan as the parents (work in day nursery) will spot my bump a mile off! Had a few strange looks befre Xmas, will tell them after scan if asked directly, this happened before Xmas and I lied and said no! , sure they will understand when i tell them.

pigleychez · 01/01/2008 18:31

Mummywannabe-

I work in a day Nursery too - Im deptuy.
I know exactly what you mean about the parents noticing! I caught a couple looking just before xmas so sure they will start asking now!

One parent asked the manager if i was ok the other week as she said i was looking very tired and not my usually cheerpy self! Oh well at least i can explain now

Not looking forward to going back to work after the xmas break but wanna show my scan pic off to the girls at work!

Mummywannabe · 01/01/2008 18:40

Pigleychez - are you going back to work after your little one is born? We have 5 staff members who have children in the nursery. I'm hoping to go back part-time -3 days (currently manager, but proprietor pretty good about me dropping some days and job sharing with someone). Most likely only have LO in nursery 2 days though as cannot really afford 3 days (mum had offered to do one day bless her!). Bit cheeky to ask but do you get a discount?

pigleychez · 01/01/2008 18:50

Havent mentioned to them about going back yet so no idea about any discounts.

Not sure about going back yet- havent decided but if i do it would only be part time. But saying that im not sure if id want the responsibility of deputy of not any more.

plus theres no family close enough to babysit and they didnt offer a discount pretty much ALL my wages would be gone on childcare!

Do you get a discount?

Mummywannabe · 01/01/2008 19:06

Pigleychez discount i was offered = 11% which will help. To be honest didn't expect to get anything so was pleased with that. The nursery chains generally offer about 25% i believe but depends on length of service. I like where i am as it is small and i can pretty much run it as i want.

I'm an NVQ assessor so if things are too tight finaicially might look into this as better paid and more flexible.

So many things to think about!

pigleychez · 01/01/2008 19:17

Yeah i know what you mean!
My nursery is a small one too (private) so its up to the proprietor for any kinda discount.

Funnily enough i got a very generous christmas gift this year (out of character!) so DH reckons its to keep me sweet to come back after!

KerryMea · 01/01/2008 21:34

I'm already thinking about what to do about work after I have baby.

I'm the main breadwinner, so don't have much choice as to whether I go back or not, and don't earn a massive amount myself, so am unsure whether to go for a childminder or a nursery... anyone with kids already who work full time who can tell me their experiences and opinions?

sandcastles · 01/01/2008 23:48

Happy New Year to all of us. Congratulations to all the newcomers, so many of us now!

I have my first appointment Thursday, [3rd]. Will be 12 weeks.

I will find out then how the hospital want to 'care' for me. I had PE & a crash C-section with dd. So I am classed as high risk.

As I didn't have dd here [Australia], there is no history for me, only what I tell them, so may have to see consultants & midwives instead of my usual GP.

I have been reading dd's pregnancy journal, making my own notes so I don't forget anything!

Am actually quite nervous now!

Very interesting that some of you are thinking about work after baby...it's something I think of and worry about often. I am principal teacher and until I had last DS, now 2 I worked full time. I now have 3 day contract but often work more than this. It is such a full on job that I worry about letting people down. I was signed off due to exessive sickness before the xmas hols and am now worrying about going back. The staff already know about my pregnancy but the parents don't. We have just had majot inspection and parents will be looking for continuity in order to take action plan forward. It is all playing on my mind but i know that I have to just do what is best for me and the baby...
I am thinking that I might fo into teacher training for a few years after this baby as it will involve working with adultsrather than children and then I might not feel so guilty....

Mummywannabe · 02/01/2008 08:19

Morning scottishsusan - i know what you mean about feeling guilty about going back to work, I feel the same- paying someone to look after my child while i look after someone elses. But.......I have to go back, financially and at least this way i'm in the same place as her/him and know and trust the staff (obv. as they work for me!). I have also thought about going into adult education more but for reasons above discounted it for time being.

Will cross the guilty bit at the time, thought makes me feel sick but after 9 months at home might be itching to get back!

MrsHOP · 02/01/2008 08:26

Hi everyone - I am new to mumsnet, got recommended here by a friend...I am due 21 July with my first one! very excited but currently worrying lots about it all being OK, if I feel weird twinges I worry, if I don't I worry...ridiculous I know!

sweetkitty · 02/01/2008 08:43

Morning all

MrsHop - hello and welcome to Mumsnet, be warned though it is seriously addictive

As for work I never went back after maternity leave with DD1, my job involved a lot of travel and wasn't child friendly (had a long commute as well) so DP transferred to Scotland and we all moved back here, I don't regret it at all but every now and again I really do miss working. I will have to retrain in the future am thinking about teacher training which is something I have always wanted to do but it will be a few years yet. For now I am happy being at home with the DDs. If I did go back DDs would have to be in nursery and I would be working to give it to the nursery so we decided it wasn't worth it. Sad though I would like to work maybe 2 days a week but that is life I suppose.

At work now and now thinking this could be a dangerous new addiction indeed...

Jodiew79 · 02/01/2008 11:43

Morning all,

Hope you all had a nice (sober) christmas and new year!

I'm back at work now, so business as usual! (which basically means, Mumsnet all day!)

I must say how reassured I am that other people are feeling negative, (in the nicest possible way!) i had a MASSIVE breakdown on Sunday night, I just felt so guilty about wanting to have another baby when DS is so lovely! and Guilty about not having as much time to spend with him come July, and then guilty about having these feelings, and then guilty for sobbing on poor DH coz he can't do anything about it! basically GUILTY GUILTY GUIlTY, I know I was being incredibaly silly, but I couldn't help it! It was so horrible... I don't remember being so emotional last time, my hormones are all over the place, (I even cried at sister Act 2 yesterday!)

KITTY - congrats on your gettimg your scan, I know it was no mean feat!!! I bet you feel great now!!!!

newcomers, welcome, and I agree, Mumsnet is VERY VERY adictive, but very usuful, I think I would have gone mad without it!

Minkus · 02/01/2008 12:30

Hello everyone

Hello to everyone who's just joined, I too am sadly addicted

MrsHop I bet we all recognise the pregnancy symptom of worrying about everything! Each time my tummy aches a bit (putting it down to lots of stretching going on down there) I panic a little. It's going to be a looong time until July!

Can sympathise too with the conversation about feeling guilty going back to work- everyone tells you about the love you'll feel for your baby but nobody mentions The Guilt that comes with being a parent. I feel The Guilt on a daily basis, I'm always feeling bad that maybe I've done something I shouldn't have or perhaps I've not done something I should! And don't get me started on The Guilt at needing to go back to work financially and for my own sanity but feeling awful about "abandoning" ds in nursery (which is lovely and the staff are ace I know he is really cared for very well), I could write a very very long post indeed about that bit
Although JodieW not sure I feel awful enough that I'd cry at Sister Act 2- you must have been feeling it baaad

My good news for the day is that (whispers) I think the Hyperemesis is backing off a bit

Don't want to say it too loud in case it hears and decides to pay another lengthy stay. The drugs I brought home with me last time from hospital are doing the trick- although I am scared to stop taking them in case it instantly returns. Am also scared to take sea bands off too in case they are the things working and not the drugs! Someone has recommended I try a homepathic remedy called ipecac- has anyone had any experience with this? Will give the lycoposium a try too Rumpel thanks for the tip, hopefully my poor blocked up bowels will get moving again soon

Blimey that was a long post soz to have waffled. Have a good day all.

Minkus

ScottishSusan · 02/01/2008 13:49

Afternoon All

Yip - it is addictive!!

Jodiew - GUILT is almost a definition for "MUM" I'm afraid and it never gets any easier. However, don't worry about not having enough love or time for number 2 because your heart will find a way - believe me I'm on number 6 - they are all different and all special. I can remember every detail of each birth and how it felt to hold each new tiny bundle.... oh here come the tears again! I'm with you on the hormone front...blubbering at everything!!

Had a ggod morning today and so took down all decorations nd got house back to normal... think I did too much though as I now feel like I have lead in my legs and I also have a few tummy twinges... probably more stretching going on...I have quite a little bump already ...mind you my uterus has had plenty of practise at stretching!!
