Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NikNakF · 12/02/2008 12:33

Hey all, 19 weeks today wooho

ScottishSusan - that is so so wonderful, congrats, so happy for you!

Sweetkitty/Min - I have horrific back pain, I think of the sacro-iliac variety and seeing doctor today. I think it just needs manipulation but when you can't walk for more than a couple of minutes without pain it is so frustrating!

MrsHop/MissChika - I am in Southwark too!! I feel like I can't find many services, but looking at Tommies birth centre today so very excited

LSB - I am going crazy with the BioOil at least once a day over very very large tum and looking ok at moment.

Gilly - Have had flutterings and I think one kick but so hard to tell!

Ok must stop now

RUMPEL · 12/02/2008 12:37

REUSABLES - it is FLAMSPARROW - also look at www.weenotions.co.uk - they look funky and do teeny ones for newborns.

MissChika · 12/02/2008 12:42

ScottishSusan - congrats on the baby girl!! That's so exciting. Really glad that you're feeling much happier.

MrsHop - just had a look at the nappy link and there are loads of things coming up. Were you thinking of going to the babyshow? I'm with you on not wanting to be at work - being pregnant and lovely sunshine is a bad combination for motivating me at work!!

Rumpel - thanks for all the nappy info. I'll check out Flamesparrow on ebay. Sorry to hear your feeling so rough today.

Minkus · 12/02/2008 12:46

Susan hooray! So pleased that all is well, and another pink one for your brood! We need some boys for this thread now, come on you ladies that are finding out give us some boys too My scan is next Monday can't wait, not going to find out but just want to be reassured that everything is ok with the baby. Being a mum = constant worry, what fun!

NikNakF · 12/02/2008 12:55

Minkus mine is next Tuesday! Scary!

sweetkitty · 12/02/2008 12:56

I'll have a boy one then if we need to balance up the numbers

Rumpel - what is it about reusables you just become SO passionate about them, I second Motherease popper wraps and bamboozles are lovely too. Wish I hadn't of sold mine some were like new. I have two boys and a girl cat, one of the boys is like a dog and is good with the DDs the other 2 just stay clear.

I think stretchmarks are in the msot part genetic either you get them or don't unfortunately. I had none with DD1 and thought I had none with DD2 until after she was born I noticed about 6 under my bump (she was 9lbs 3ozs and I was huge) hey faded pretty well though I have to really search for them, this time who knows.......

Poledra · 12/02/2008 13:36

ScottishSusan, how fabulous, that's made my day.

Re stretchmarks, they are mostly genetic, so if your mum got them, then the chances are so will you. When I was expecting my first dd, a friend told me to get a mirror and look underneath my bump, to save myself from getting any nasty shocks post-birth . She was right, the buggers were hiding, waiting to jump out at me later. Never mind, faded well and certainly do ont compare to the huge appendectomy scar acquired in late pregnancy with dd2!

JODIEhavingababy · 12/02/2008 14:16

Hello all,

Scottishsusan - how brilliant, I am so made up for you! I've been thinking about you all morning!

Re reusable nappies, DS is still in his, I used ONELIFE nappies, they fold down so one size fits all, so they fit him as a newborn too! SK i know what you mea, I'm so enthusiatic about washable nappies now, they are fab! (and have saved me a fortune too!) Although I do use disposables when we are out and about. I feel like I'm doing my bit for the environment.

Fir those of you that have been talking about it, what is SPD? Coz for the last week or so I have been having really sharp pains in my lower back, on and off, but esp. when I've been on my feet all day, It gets so bad I can't put and weight on the one side. I thought it was Sciatica, but it doesn't go from my knee up my leg....

mummypig · 12/02/2008 14:23

hi everyone, just wasting my time on mumsnet when I should be doing so many other things before collecting ds1 and ds2 from school

min, sorry to hear bout your ds, hope there are no repeat incidents

minkus, I am only just in pg clothes too, and suddenly everyone is saying how noticeable my bump is! I wish the maternity trousers didn't have such saggy bums though...

sweetkitty/min I had spd in both previous pregnancies and have started to feel some twinges again. I haven't gone to anyone so far - my midwives recommended a good osteopath but she's a long bus ride and walk away so I'd rather find someone nearer, and was thinking of trying a chiropractor instead. Also I think I should go and tell my GP now, so they are warned just in case it gets worse later on and I go in asking for a physio appointment. However I have been in and out of the surgery or hospitals with ds2 so much since before Christmas (seizure related ) that I am delaying any non -urgent visits until things are a bit quieter.

sweetkitty, what kind of scientist were/are you? I was a physical chemist, although haven't done any actual experiments for quite a while now ...

Poledra, my appendectomy scar dwarfs my stretch-marks too. I had it done when I was 9 and it is a wonderful railway-line style, so have never exactly been one for exposing my midriff in any case.

I have to admit to being rather less than perfect with my reusable nappies once ds2 came along, although I still managed to persuade his day nursery to use them, which I think is a pretty good coup. I also intend to use muslins initially, but I'm sure dp will refuse to change them and go out and buy a huge bag of Pampers. It's not a big enough thing to fall out with him about but I wish he would be slightly more ecofriendly sometimes.

Now I have to call the hospital to see if they can reschedule my scan for next Thursday, as dp has only just told me he has a very important meeting that he can't change. Feel somewhat with him as he should have had this scan in his diary for over a month and I suspect this "very important meeting" has been arranged since then. Plus I only booked the scan to reassure him; if it had been down to me I would not have bothered! Let's hope I get a friendly, kind and not too busy person answering the phone...

mummypig · 12/02/2008 14:28

jodie the pelvic partnership is a good website to look at to find out about spd:

www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/index2.html

although as sweetkitty says it might not be spd... and in general you do get told that all aches and pains are 'normal' (grrr) so if something is really bothering you it's worth going on and on about it until someone actually takes notice.

also forgot to say lots of congratulations to scottishsusan (with a definite pink hue) - glad it all worked out in the end

JODIEhavingababy · 12/02/2008 14:29

rumple Paulaplumpbottom and Bealcain have both gone over to the Due August Thread, so no need to worry, I think they are both doing OK

JODIEhavingababy · 12/02/2008 14:33

Mummypig - THanks for that, just had a quick nose through, and i don't think my pain's as severe as all that, but will go see my doctor to see what he says, although Iam pretty sure he'll fob me off! They usually do...

legsy · 12/02/2008 14:36

Have a lot to catch up on - can't believe how many posts there are since I logged on. It's great!

Scottishsusan - am so relieved that everything turned out OK. Well done for getting through this. I feel very lucky to have been spared that awful dilemma. Enjoy thinking of DD!

I've always said I'm not going to find out, but it's very tempting reading all the posts of those who know! And I'm being scanned every 2 weeks as I have a risk of late miscarriage/premature birth (all good so far thankfully) so plenty of opportunities for me to find out!

I think I've felt a few flutterings but don't think I'll be sure until I feel the first proper kick. A friend recommended l'Occitane's Almond Supple Oil for stretch marks, though it's outrageously expensive. I don't actually believe it makes much difference but feel better doing something.

MrsHOP · 12/02/2008 14:48

That is such fab news Susan, brill!

chika, was going to go to the show but have got a ton of things on now that weekend so I don't think i will be able to - realnappiesforlondon are there aren't they? I will see what this woman says, maybe she can recommend somewhere in Southwark - niknak good to see another southie among us!

I got stretchmarks on my hips and thighs when I was about 14/15 so am guessing I will get them again - am slapping on cream like the best of them though, in the vague hope that I won't get any...

MissChika · 12/02/2008 15:16

MrsH, yes realnappiesforlondon are at the baby show that weekend but I would rather find somewhere local as those types of things get a bit manic (went to the wedding show at earl's court last year and that was quite hardgoing!)- let me know what you find out and we could go together.

NikNak - great to have another South Londoner on the thread and you're a first-timer too aren't you??

MrsH - very weird but I got stretchmarks all over my thighs and hips too when I was a teenager - I often think my thighs are like the insides of trees as they have so many rings of stretchmarks around them!! Maybe I should count them, they might tell me my age!!

I have been applying moisturisers and oils religiously since I got pregnant. Not sure what will happen to me if it is heditary as my mum and my sister didn't get any stretchmarks but my other sister got tons around her belly button. She was about two weeks overdue with both of her kids though ...

ScottishSusan · 12/02/2008 15:34

Hi again!

thanks for all wonderful messages!

I have put scan picture of "my little girl" on my profile if anyone wants to look.

xx

Stretch marks - VitE oil from body shop is brill! I am on 6th and really have very few marks - I know this also depends on skin type. This oil is also good to massage and stretch "down below" near the birth - I swear by this! 5 deliveries and no stitches!! Give it a try xxxx

EEC · 12/02/2008 16:02

Susan - what a fab picture. So glad about your news.

What a lot of posts today! Absolutely exhausted today and nauseous too. I thought it had gone.......

Minkus · 12/02/2008 16:18

Susan, I know this is going to sound odd but...It's a baybeeee! Such clear pictures! Not just random blobs and shadows, how lovely.

Have had a manic day today, ds and I have played lots and lots (his imagination just recently has gone bonkers and he can come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful games, its great) and have got lots of householdy stuff done- car insurance, mortgage quotes (our fixed period ends soon) you know the sort of thing. Feel strangely cleansed

isaidno · 12/02/2008 17:19

fab pic SS - I'm so pleased for you xx

pigleychez · 12/02/2008 17:38

Hi everyone.

Scottishsusan-- Im so glad everything is ok! Was thinking of you this morning. A girl too Lovely pic

Ive been using Bio-oil on my tum ( although not as often as i should!) and so far so good
Already have some on the top of my thighs- again from puberty but hope to avoid any obvious ones on my tum.

jocesar · 12/02/2008 20:26

Just need a bit of reassurance please. Was scanned at 13wks and everything OK. since then have felt fine but then got a nasty flu for 7 days with a high temp. Lost about 2kg with the flu and am not really gaining that much wt (4kg since conception) and I'm now 19 wks. I have a slight abdo swelling but don't need maternity clothes yet. I have not felt any baby movements at all so I'm beginning to worried that the baby is not ok. But if somthing had gone badly wrong, then would I have miscarried? 20 wk scan next week but would like some reassurance until then. Thanks

shortshafe · 12/02/2008 22:30

Susan - fabulous news, am really pleased for all of you. A girl will definately help to even up the numbers too!

jocesar - I always lose weight in the first 3 months - I currently weigh almost a stone less than when I got pregnant! With my first I didn't feel any movements until about 24 weeks ish so I wouldn't worry too much. Could you phone your midwife for some reassurance? They'll be able to get baby's heartbeat easily enough with a doppler.

I had no stretchmarks until I got to 36 weeks - now I've got a tiger striped tummy! nice. I also swelled up that much near the end that I've got little tiny stretch marks on my knees and ankles. very attractive

Minkus · 13/02/2008 09:05

jocesar, this is definitely a difficult time as without feeling the baby move/having a bump its difficult to believe you really are pregnant! Hang in there though until your scan next week, you'll see your babmbino wriggling away and things will be fine I'm sure. I guess that the fact you've gained a little weight could be a good thing- there are obviously lots of pregnancy hormones rushing around to make you put on a bit of weight.

I worry the same as you even though I've felt the baby move and have a bump. Can't wait to get next Monday's scan out of the way and, all being well, get on with the rest of this blimmin (definitely not blooming ) pregnancy

Been slathering on some lovely oil an aromatherapist friend made up for me- sweet almond carrier oil with mandarin. It's lovely, not sticky, and is really helping my dry skin too. Not sure whether it will help any against stretchmarks but it feels nice! I have a few silvery ones from teenage years and then ds, but nothing too major so hoping that this one won't make my tum look like a road map.

Have a good day all
xxxx

MissChika · 13/02/2008 09:19

Jocesar - I think it's quite common for some women to lose weight initially when pregnant and I definitely know women who haven't shown any signs of being pregnant until after 22 weeks. Maybe give your midwife a call just for a little reassurance. Also, I'm 20 weeks and haven't felt any real movement either.

ScottishSusan - love the pic!

MrsH - I signed up to www.nappylady.co.uk yesterday (I remember someone on this thread pointed me to the link)and they give you your own local personal nappy advisor - they have "nappucinos" once a month to talk about the various options available and this one is based in Nunhead - is that fairly easy for you to get to??

Have a great day everyone!

M x

sweetkitty · 13/02/2008 09:32

Morning all another frosty but sunny one here today, just in limbo land between dropping DD1 off at nursery and DD2's music group. Could be doing some housework though..........

Hips and pelvis quite sore today, kept waking up last night and finding myself sleeping on my stomach also had a mad dream I was in hospital with two friends from school and one friend had a 12lbs girl and then I had a boy (other friend was still waiting). One of the friends had a boy 4 days before I had DD2 but the other one I haven't seen since school. Is anyone else having baby dreams?

Oh a good website I joined ages ago is www.babycentre.co.uk once you give them your due date they send you a weekly update on how the baby is doing plus loads of other stuff, that's where I got the info on SPD and SI pain, also continues when the baby is here you get regular updates.
