The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

OP posts:

ernest · 18/01/2008 09:50

deb, didyou have really bad ms with the other 2?

eivl ernest, yes, ha ha. that is i. beware. too tired to do caps todaay

debinaustria · 18/01/2008 10:11

MS stopped at 16 weeks with the boys, I'm not actually vomiting food, it's just that early morning retching , but if it doesn't happen then my breakfast doesn't stay down.

Feeling a bit sad as Tristan(5) has been on his Kindergarten ski course this week and today there are races but they are on a piste that you have to ski to , to watch them , so he should be racing about now, send him cyber good luck vibes will you? It's the 1st time the pregnancy has stopped me doing something important.I know people do ski but personally I couldn't risk it, plus there are no salopettes in the house that fit me anymore.

ChinaSurprise · 18/01/2008 10:22

Morning all.
Ernest, your SIL stories made me laugh. Ahh, neuroses about food. What a silly world we live in.
DH's cousin was born with spina bifia, basically because his anorexic mum was on a diet for her entire pregnancy...
It's not much fun to put on loads of weight while pg, but the alternatives can be horrific...

ChinaSurprise · 18/01/2008 10:23

Sorry - didn't mean to create a total downer!
Feeling knackered today as stayed up til midnight. Deffo need to dial it down a bit
Getting really excited now about the scan on Monday. Wooo!

I just thought I would update with what some of us are having!

Debs, a skiing race so really exotic. Good luck Tristan!

Sophie, I hope your hand is better today.

debinaustria · 18/01/2008 10:39

Thanks G43, we don't know where they came in the race until the medal ceremony later on (which I can go to), then they are announced in reverse order!! There's great excitement amongst the Austrian(ever so pushy ) parents. When it was ds1's school race last year the children(Primary age)had special racing suits on and racing skis, Father's at the top giving them tips and warming up their legs!! Needless to say we just said do your best and cheered Stefan as he missed some gates and had his time disqualified!!

goingfor3 · 18/01/2008 10:42

debinaustria lol at the racing gear! I bet your children enjoy it most as it's fun for them.

josey · 18/01/2008 12:20

Ernest can I ask what was the bread supposed to do to your SIL's baby?

Debs hope your DS gets on well today even if he doesnt have go faster stripes on his skis and hat

Im in a nice mess today nose is running its own marathon, paracetamol gives me heartburn which makes my throat hurt more hot water honey and lemon help but that brings that heartburn back

I have put my scan pic's on from yesterday if anyone is interested.

I have also just booked a 3D/4D and gender scan so I have that on 1st March to look forward to.

sophiewd · 18/01/2008 12:23

Poor you Josey, sounds horrible, get well soon. And what a fantastic scan to look forward to.

aberdeenhiker · 18/01/2008 13:26

Hi, I just got back from my 20 week scan & everythings fine! I'm a bit relieved that this time the head is measuring on the smaller side of normal - last time DS had a huge head and still does! My due date may be a bit ahead - The scan date is 19+5 and my previous date was 20+1, but I'm happy to stick to the original date as it's earlier!

We don't get to find out the gender here but DH thinks he might have seen boy bits - but then he couldn't make out the nose so I'm not sure if he's to be trusted...

needahand · 18/01/2008 15:00

Hi all, glad to see I am not the only one having pb in the bladder department. I don't have the pb when I sneeze...only when I am sick.

Unfortunately brushing my teeth in the evening seems to make me sick (anyone else or am I an oddity) and the waterworks opens. So so embarassing: double humilition!

I too am craving sweet things (still). Scan on the 1 of Feb. Can't wait

ernest · 18/01/2008 15:51

sil is following a weaning plat to the letter (GF I think). not as a rough guide, but as the word of God himself. And it states clearly that certain doom will befall the entire household if new foods are introduced at the evning meal, not at lunch time. (OK that last bit was my interpretation, or rather sil's interpretation of it). I think the rational is if they get wind or have some other reaction you see.

She however doesn't waste energies on trivialities and panics over anaphylactic shock (to be fair, she does know of someone whose dc suffered severe allergic reaction to egg). She was considering going to dd every half an hour to check still alive. I pointed out bread is an unlikely killer, may give her a bit of wind if she's unlucky, and if she's going to have a severe allergic reaction to something it won't ve 3 hours after eating it.

Anyway, She really doesn't need any help in the neurosis dept.

BUT I have had a nap, so I should not be too evil. Bless her.. It's her mum, mil who dies in October, so she turns to me for parenting advice as she doesn't have her mum around. Luckily we get on really well. We also turn to each other when we need to slag off dh. She has said she's going to e-mail me a shopping list when she visits next month so she can stick to her plan to the letter.

deb, how'd ds get on?

needahand, I get that as well, only ever in pg. I don't get ms but I do gag and retch brushing teeth. luckily no leaks tho, that would not be fun

claphamkitten · 18/01/2008 16:22

I get the gagging brushing teeth thing too - every morning - and I think I'm going to be sick (but never actually am thankfully). Glad it's not just me... I don't understand it at all, as I never get it in the evening. I am now starting to get worried about the wee thing though, as most of you seem to have it, but I haven't experienced that joy yet! All to look forward to, I guess...

Hope racer-boy did well in his ski-ing race...

x

ernest · 18/01/2008 16:39

ck, don't worry, I've never had the wee problem, nor ms or stretch marks. (yet ) nothing is compulsory.

I seem to have caught a bit of what the boys have to offer - got headache, sinuses, runny nose hideous cough where I occasionally manage to bring up a giant green lung cookie, but usually it gets coughedhalf way up and no further, yuk, and a very sore throat.

for the sake of sounding like sil (sorry sorry lovely sil, only joking honest) I'm wondering about group strep b. That's only a problem at term isn't it? And in the mean time, apart from disgusting you all with tmi, I just put up?

btw, you near clapham common, ck?

debinaustria · 18/01/2008 16:49

He came 4th out of Kindergarten so he did really well, he raced it in 33 seconds, and here he is

needahand · 18/01/2008 17:12

Glad to see I am not an oddity. So what is the solution not brushing teeth for the next 6 months (yuk!). Hmm I think not expecially with my painful gums. Sometimes one can't win!

Ernest : worried about group B strep too. I think you can buy a test and ask you mw to do it for you. I will look it up and let you know.

Debs: congratulation to your son. I can't even do that at my age!

Deese20 · 18/01/2008 17:36

It's getting quite exciting (and real) now hearing everyone talk about boy/girls, names, buggies .
Got a scan in 2 weeks and hubby and I guessing like mad. I didn't have any morning sickness and read somewhere that can mean its a boy. Does anyone think you can guess tho'?
Feel slightly guilty to say that have had v smooth time of it and if wasn't for lots of flutterings every day and a decent size bump, would have to wonder if I was making the whole thing up!
Question re. Strep B - what is opinion/talk about it? It isn't recommended in NICE guidelines but haven't asked my midwife yet.

goingfor3 · 18/01/2008 17:48

Debs I watched the video and your ds was fab, can't beleive how fast he was going! Loved the star wars video too.

Deese20 I felt sick until 18 weeks with dd2 and had nothing like it in my other pregnancies boy or girl. Re GBS i tested positive with dd1 and despite having antibiotics in labour she was ill at 5 days and needed some iv antibiotics. With dd2 I was negative and she was ill very soon after brith and spend a few days in scbu having IV antibiotics, I idid have some antibiotics in labour with her but very early on. This time the nhs tests are showing negagtive but I'm going to have antibiotics in labour and ask that the baby has them straight after birth too, must remember to discuss that with th e consultant next time I go in.

ernest · 18/01/2008 18:15

gsb can be very dangerous for newborn, but I'm not sure as I don't know enough - does the mother have to be ill just at some point during pg, or at the time of delivery? Can baby be affected now, at 18 weeks?

goingfor3 · 18/01/2008 20:43

ernest a large unmber of women carry gbs vaginally but as it has so effects will never know. If a baby catches it during birth then it may become very ill. The number of babies affected is quite small compared to the number of carriers.

Upsidedowncake · 18/01/2008 20:56

Re Group B, NICE didn't say much about it though haven't looked for a year or so. Claphamkitten, the test is about 35 quid, so could be worth having if you're worried. I'm in Southfields. Are you in Clapham?

just found another very old friend is pg due in June. There are a lot of us!

Debs, yay to your son.

x

josey · 18/01/2008 21:03

Debs congrats to your DS vid is ace he looks like a mini James Bond.

Deese20 · 18/01/2008 21:43

Found a very informative GBSS site (and petition)

Something to follow up with midwife though, as with much NHS stuff, it will no doubt depend on trust policy and staff and will no doubt involve a fair bit of wall-head-banging (sorry v cynical after long yrs of service in system).

Debs - he's so quick!

MoodyEve · 19/01/2008 11:06

I am due on the 24th June. First baby.
Want to know the sex, but will be happy with whatever. Very small bump at the mo.
