Due in June 2008: bring on the bumps! (and that's before Christmas meals!)

The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
aberdeenhiker · 13/12/2007 14:38

reposting last message since it's all by it's lonesome on page 41 of the old thread:

I ordered a bump band from jjmb and I'd love it, except it's very roomy at this point in pregnancy and doesn't keep my trousers up. If you're getting one, be warned and order on the small side! However, I'm sure I'll get my money out of it later covering my bump - I don't want my stretch marks hanging out!

I haven't had anything to drink yet but I'll have a small glass of wine at Christmas! M&S do small 100mL taster bottles of red and white wine which are nice for pregnancy - I enjoyed one or two of those a week during my last pregnancy! (250mL bottles are too big, even split over two nights).

nettiehay · 13/12/2007 14:45

thanks aberdeenhiker - i was wondering who was going to start another thread!

I will probably be having a glass from the same bottles as everyone else over the festive period - as I am sure everyone else will be drinking (apart from my DP of course - he's all 'holier than thou' at the moment!)

aberdeenhiker · 13/12/2007 14:48

(I'm definitely procrastinating - stuck on a tough bit of maths and programming today (I'm a scientist)).

My DH is definitely not 'holier than thou' - after a bad evening with DS, DH decided he needed a whisky before bed - and then started joking maybe he should drink for 4 since he's the only one in the family able to!

sophiewd · 13/12/2007 15:16

Had the scan, baby is doing well and nice to see heartbeat, and even nicer to see just one according ti the NT results I shoudl be 27 years old and not the grand old age of 37, so that made me feel better. Have finally finished the christmas shopping and now the pressies are waiting for DH to wrap, that is the deal.

Ernest - my sciatica is coming and going, really bad yesterday but not so bad today. Happy driving and if you missed this then hope you had a good weekend.

debinaustria · 13/12/2007 16:16

Well you all make me feel so much better about deciding to have a glass of red wine with dinner - been painting all day and I deserve it!

Sophie - so pleased your scan went well you young thing!!At the moment I am counting down the days until the Christmas guests arrive because that means that we'll have to have finished painting and laying floors by then. I just don't want to think about the hectic days between now and then!!

sophiewd · 13/12/2007 16:31

Deb good luck with all your decorating, we were doing that in 2005 at tihis stage in pregnancy for our B&B, used to tell DH that paointing didn't make me feel well

Rolf · 13/12/2007 16:33

Good news about the scan Sophie. Does that mean you're thrown out of the Old Bags club? I am convinced people will think I have gone to a dodgy Italian Gynae for post-menopausal fertility treatment. I am 36 but aware of my great age in fertility terms. My mother had her children at 38 and 40 so I'm seeing that as encouraging.

Does anyone know anything about dying hair in pregnancy? I thought it was frowned on but maybe there is an organic one that would be ok?

The bump band looks great. I am going to order one too. Although someone I know wore a brightly coloured one with dark clothes and she looked awfully like an Easter egg .

Ernest - I am very impressed with your competence at doing a big drive like that with 3 children. I am a crap driver (as well as a crap linguist) so there is a real danger of me becoming irritatingly in awe of you . Good news about your scan result.

Upsidedowndetective · 13/12/2007 16:36

Ha. I've found you! I think I deserve my new nickname ...

So I had the scan and all was fine. Baby was 67mm and still due on 22 June! They don't give a risk factor for Down's until I get the results of the blood tests but the nuchal fold was 1.7.

I don't feel remotely like wine. It smells disgusting so I don't feel like it at all. Like my last pregnancy, I'm using this one to dry out!

My friend has been in bed all day (temp and thrush!) so that rules loads of you out. Or possibly she's not on here at all. [Upsidedowndetective pulls out her magnifying glass]

Rolf · 13/12/2007 16:39

Great about the scan Upsidedowndetective .

Deffo not your RL friend - don't live in the SE, wasn't in bed today and don't have thrush!

ernest · 13/12/2007 18:21

Hia, well I am so stressed, may I moan? Thank God I opted to go tomorrow. I have to take to the new school (interview) tomorrow a report from their current school. Got ds2's yesterday and it was so lovely it made me cry. Popped in tonight to get ds1's and it was soo bad . i couldn't believe my eyes. I still can't say out loud the expletives I want to. In the 1st paragraph alone there were 7 negative statements about him, and it was 2 sides of A4. I was totally incensed. I was shaking with anger when I went to see teacher ( I teach in the same school, I had a similar problem at the start of the school year. If he really is so fucking bad, why the fuck don't they say something. I point out last time I spoke to the other teacher (there are 2 part time class teachers) she said he was doing ok/better & she shrugged and said yes, I think so! So if he is doing OK why the fuck do they have to write 2 pages of negative shiot about him? Do they mention he is top of the class in maths? No. Do they mention any positive things about him? No. I told her I thought what she had written was totally inappropriate and unacceptable and that there was no way I could show that to a prospective new school. She re wrote it thank God, tbh, it's all in German, unlike ds2's, so they probably won't be able to understand it anyway. But I am so bloody angry. If my kid is misbehaving I expect to know about it, especially as I even work in the same bloody school and speak to the teachers regularly. But I suspect very much it's a case of mega crap teacher (she physically manhandled 3 kids 2 weeks into term, not mine thank God) and she is just bloody loop the loop. That is 1 and only 1 good thing I can think of about moving away. Yet ds2s teachers, and the school and village as a whole are absolutely fantastic. But right now, unless no one has noticed, I am unbelievably pissed off.

then it took me about an hour (with the help of a neighbour thank goodness) to fix dh's bike onto the back of the car, as if I don't have enough crap to bring with me.

moan moan.

sorry, it has made me feel a teeny bit better tho

sophiewd · 13/12/2007 18:24

ernest, that's awful about school report well done for having a go about it to them, drive safely tomorrow won't you.

hedgehog1979 · 13/12/2007 18:26

Hey all,

Rolf - my sis is a hairdresser and you are not supposed to have any colour that touches your scalp (I think she means one of those diy jobs) but you can have highlights etc

every1 else who is buying clothes - feeling very jealous , I have a 36" inside leg (I am 6 foot tall) and the only place that does maternity trousers long enough is Long Tall Sally and they are not cheap, and the nearest are Brighton/Guildford (upsidedown I don't think I know you as I only know about three people down here, and the only pg person I know is due in Feb)

On the wine front - had a glass of cheap champange coz it was my parents 30th wedding anniversary and will prob have a small glass on christmas but the smell of alcohol at the moment sends me straight upstairs.

Can anyone tell me when the sickness will stop!!!!!

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 13/12/2007 18:36

ernest that is awful. How could the teachers not communicate any problems to you. Glad you got another report written.

Sophie and Upside, so happy to hear all is well with your babies.

My baby is wriggling around like crazy today, it gave me two really hard kicks which really shocked me and has spent most of the day moving. I'm 16 weeks today which is one day futher than I got last time and I'm feeling positive. It was watching day at DD2's ballet and she was so lovely to watch, a much nicer day than yesterday when I got so tense during my internal swabs I popped the spectulum out and had to wait so long for the scan I had to wee as I couldn't take the pain any more and had to have an internal scan which was actually a positive as I had a really good view of baby as there wasn't layers of flab blurring the view!

Rolf · 13/12/2007 19:09

Glad you're feeling so positive, G43. I know what you mean about internal scans. In a way I'd rather expose my fanjo than my horrific tummy.

Ernest - what a horrible report. I'm not surprised you're angry.

sophiewd · 13/12/2007 19:34

G43 - that's great news and glad you are feeling so positive about everything, sounds like your DD's ballet was lovely and relaxing after yuesterday.

debinaustria · 13/12/2007 19:53

Ernest - the report was terrible, it's a good job there was time to have it re-written, otherwise you would have to have offered to "translate" for them, and added a few positive sentences of your own!! Sounds like the teacher needs to go, but do they have a strange way in Switzerland with who employs the teachers, could she be transferred?

I hope the school in Milan is fantastic - is it an Italian school or international, and gives you more hope about your move.

You're not old Rolf - I am the old lady of the group with my 39th Birthday fast approaching and I conceived in the 1st month this time!!

Hedgehog I'm nearly 15 weeks now and smells don't make me sick any more - hurrah, but I am still sick every morning.

detective - glad everything went well at the scan

g43 - each day that passes will make it seem more believeable now - and you lucky thing feeling the kicking.

poppy34 · 13/12/2007 20:06

ok feeling brave enough not to lurk anymore as had nuchal scan today and all seems ok for dates- so can I join you? Due on 20 June - this is my 4th pregnancy (2 m/c and one t/x due to abnormalities incompatible with life at 21 weeks). I'm very excited but very scared/worried about this little one..well that is when I am not just flat out knackered

Josie57 · 13/12/2007 21:07

Hello hedgehog - can't believe you are living in Haywards Heath, I was brought up in Lindfield and my parents still live there so we often visit. Now though I am living over in East Kent. Anyway sending smiley waves to you!

Josie57 · 13/12/2007 21:18

Just to update you all on our situation. We saw the consultant on Wednesday and have decided to opt for the amnio instead of the CVS so I've got this to look forward to on Jan 2nd. They gave me another detailed scan and it showed that my placenta was at the back so they would have had to play dodge the baby with the needle in order to get to it and take their sample. I didn't fancy this at all as it sounded a bit risky so we will wait a few more weeks for the amnio. It would have been nice to have all the results back before Christmas but to be honest we are feeling a lot more positive about things now so I think this is the best option. Interestingly, the sonographer did some some additional examinations to check for Downs like testing our little bubs hand reflexes and they passed all these with flying colours. I know these aren't diagnostic but I'm taking them all as positives.

Does anyway else have a feel for what sex their little bub is? Last time I was convinced we were having a boy and we did - this time it just feels like it will be a girl.

Ernest - good for you standing up to that teacher and getting her to re-write your sons reference, what she did was really unprofessional. I hope your trip goes well, I'll be sending you lucky vibes that everything goes well.

Poppy - congratulations and welcome to you

josey · 13/12/2007 22:11

popping into wave, very washed out, had dd at Cbeebies winter wonderland today it was fab but seems a long time since I was snuggled up in bed.

glad the scans went well and josie glad things look positive for an amnio

ernest you really are going through it just now, im disgusted at that teacher though, I thought it was just bog standard mums like me that got rubbish feedback(i had a shrug sholder get out my room im bored parents evening) sure your Dh will be excited with the aladins cave in your car though

Im planning having the odd drink over the holidays, I got Avocat yesterday to make snowballs how childish but hey! when I was about 5/6 weeks i took a massive craving for red wine
Had the odd spritzer or beer with ds and dd and they are quite normal (well as can be being my offspring)

Josie on the boy/girl thing, I knew with both of mine, and im getting the sense again, I had a thing with the colours blue and pink in my last 2 pregnancies it was very odd, and I wont bore you with it.

Debs good luck with the decor.

waves to poppy welcome

Away to crash night to bumps and all

katyjo · 13/12/2007 23:08

Hi everyone, so glad I found you all again, I thought the old thread seemed a bit quiet today - silly me!

Welcome Poppy, so glad you've joined us!

Josie - all sounds really positive (the sonographer checking reflexes). I'm sure they are very skilled at retrieving samples from the placenta wherever it is, and was it littlemy who said there are lower risks associated with amnio than CVS.

Hedgehog, how far on are you? My sickness stopped at 14.5 weeks, so hopefully yours will to but who knows!

I've nothing new to report, feeling knackered and have a bit of a sore throat, so I better get to bed.

night everyone!

debinaustria · 14/12/2007 06:14

Poppy really happy to hear all went well at the nuchal scan. 20th June is a great day to be born!

I'm so desperate to start buying baby clothes! I don't need any as I have bag fulls from the girls but I am really trying to stop myself until at least after christmas so I can buy some in the sale. My next scan is on the 28th and hopefully I will find out the sex and then I will definatley buy some on the way home!

dylansluckymum · 14/12/2007 10:31

hi everyone. sorry to come on with bad news but my friend chrissy that some of you have heard about (www.loveforcrystal.com) passed away on wednesday. even though i knew it was coming it's still been a terrible shock and i'm now just trying to get through the days until we fly home and i can be around all the other people that loved her best.

so take care of those bumps ladies, and yourselves, and have wonderful holidays, appreciate every moment (even the family battles!) and i'll chat to you all in mid-jan when we get back. x x x
