The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

Welcome Moodyeve, when is your scan?

gr1973 · 19/01/2008 12:06

hi, just taking a break from the housework to catch up with everyone. Debs - hurrah for your son, not had chance to look at the vid but will do when I have more time later..

I've been quite worried about GroupB Strep but when I mentioned it to my mw I got a pretty standard line about how rare it is etc. My understanding is that NICE dont recommend it because the risk of it doesn't warrant the cost of it.

After my first mc last year I had all sorts of internal swabs done (sorry if tmi!!) and the mw said if I was a carrier it would probably have showed up then. I would def recommend paying the £35 for the test if anyone is worried though. I dont think there are many (if any?) places in the UK who routinely test for it.

Anyway, better crack on - parents over this w/e (going to order pram, yay!) and then have to get organised for holiday next week. Too much to do, not enough time to do it in...

aberdeenhiker · 19/01/2008 13:21

I paid to get tested for group B strep in my last pregnancy. I think it was from this company www.tdlpathology.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=33&Itemid=73.

While it's not offered on NHS, my midwife was supportive of me doing the tests privately. There's no reason you can't do them yourself if your home too - it's different from other tests that require a high vaginal swab.

I came up negative and I think it was worth the peace of mind and will pay for the test again. I think it's around £30, but I couldn't find any prices.

gr1973 · 19/01/2008 13:42

thanks aberdeen - its good that your mw was supportive. Its making me think that I maybe should have the test. I had loads of mixed messages/conflicting treatment when I was ill following my mc last year and I'm not convinced I trust any healthcare professionals any more! Will think about it some more and do some more research.

debinaustria · 20/01/2008 07:51

Good morning everyone, anyone doing anything exciting today? Those of you who have found out the sex have you started the pink/blue buying yet?

Nothing much to report from Austria, going out for lunch today so no cooking!!

sophiewd · 20/01/2008 09:24

Enjoy your lunch Deb. DD is 2 tomorrow and the weather is not good so we are going to take her to the local sea life centre for a treat.

Fingers ok but blistered so straooed up and sadly cannot cook well or do the washing up

debinaustria · 20/01/2008 14:34

Hope your dd enjoys the sea life centre, and happy birthday to her for tomorrow.
What a shame you can't do the washing up or cooking

I've had delicious goulash soup and chips for dinner - just what I fancied! Been eyeing all the prams on the slopes to see what people were using.

Parofleurmapu · 20/01/2008 14:51

ChinaSurprise · 20/01/2008 15:20

Afternoon all. I should be doing some freelance work, but after 900 words I need a break so thought I'd catch up.
Debs, your son was ace! The kids always amaze me when I go skiing.
Sophie. Soo very sorry to hear you cannot wash up. Hehe.
Not much to report here. I'm getting better at working out where bubba is lying as when s/he bunches up in one place I get quite lopsided now.
We have our big scan tomorrow and consultant's appt. Am less nervous than I was about the whole bicornuate uterus thing as I'm still getting kicks and wriggles and bubs is deffo moving round a lot, which makes me think I have escaped the possible threatened v early labour as am now 20 weeks (woo!). Hopefully will get the all clear tomorrow.
Finding out the sex - hmmm. I still want to, but trouble is I'm sort of convinced it's a boy - if it's a girl I'm going to be so shocked! (Not that am against having a girl, just feel like i know it's a boy) We'll see!
A quickie re fundal height for you veterans - how do you know where it is? I think I can feel mine just above my belly button now, but how easy is it to tell?
My scan's in the morning so I should be able to post results during day and piccies tomorrow evening.
Bfn!

debinaustria · 20/01/2008 15:42

Your baby's room sound lovely Parofleur.

China - good luck for your scan tomorrow, I still have another week to wait.

ernest · 20/01/2008 15:45

cs, from what I recall, at 20 weeks fundl height should be in line w, belly button and 1cm above per week thereafter.

had lovely pm, really sunny here so we went for a bar-be-que. The swiss are really into grilling and there are loads of public grills all over. we went to one by where the local minature plane club meet, and while we were eating loads of different people turned up witht hier planes, and put on a really stunt show for the boys so it was great, but we had to cut it short to take dh to the station.

cs. I knew my 1st was a girl. just knew it. They during labour mw examined me and said hmm, I feel testicles! SO I learned in 1 swoop a. it was breech, b. it was def. a boy after all. I was a teeny bit put out at avoiding finding out for the whole pg then her opneing her big gob at the 11th hour!

Good luck for tomorrow and anyone else who has scan coming up.

ChinaSurprise · 20/01/2008 15:53

Harhar ernest - your story made me laugh.
I don't know why I think it's a boy now - at the start I thought it was a girl. It's exciting not knowing until now, but I do hope they'll be able to tell tomorrow. I'm such a planner that having another 20 weeks of mystery will bug me.
But I guess it's not always possible to tell, and I know some people don't get the option, so I will try to be philosophical if it's not obvious!
Will keep you all posted.

goingfor3 · 20/01/2008 21:42

Good luck with all the scans comming up, especially CS i hope they give you the all clear.

Sophie hope your hand feels better soon but I imagine you will be out of cleaning duties for a while

Paro the room sounds like it will be lovely.

Ernest, good story!

I bought baby girl a pink baby gro and matching hat last week. The girls didn't have anything pink in the hospital as I had no idea what dd1 was and thought dd2 was porbably a boy due to having such a diferent pregnancy. This little one will have a pink outfit as her first clothes or if she is too big, I bought it from M&S in size up to 1 month then I have a very cute Greenbaby baby gro with veggies on.

Upsidedowncake · 20/01/2008 22:08

Paro, room sounds lovely - how exciting.

Sophie - sorry about your hand, what a shame that you can't do any housework!

Ernest - tee hee.

China, good luck for tomorrow. I'm totally with you about wanting to find out. Can't believe that we're all getting to that point now! And goingfor3, you're buying clothes. Wow!

We went to the christening of ds's best friend's baby brother today. We were talking about how ds doesn't have a brother, and ds said, 'But I got a brother mummy,' and pointed at me ...

We haven't told him I'm pregnant as he is only 2.2. I was kind if weirded out; scan isn't for another three weeks. Either ds is psychic or - he doesn't understand the concept of 'brother' ...

claphamkitten · 21/01/2008 10:47

Hi all,
Went to friend's yesterday and came home with loads of baby stuff that she no longer wants/needs (she's already got 3) so we're off the ground with babygros etc... (seeing as DH hasn't let me buy anything for myself yet!) Am waiting for 20 wk scan, then he'll have no excuse and I can start doing all the exciting stuff like ordering buggies, cots etc...

Ernest/Upsidedowncake - we were very near Clapham Common, but have now moved to Forest Hill to house with garden. Not far though...

x

debinaustria · 21/01/2008 11:26

It's so exciting when you start getting the baby stuff isn't it? We hd some guests arrive on Saturday - returning guests from last year and they bought a pack of bodysuits and babygros with them. They will be this babys 1st present!!

Josie57 · 21/01/2008 11:36

It's really exciting getting stuff for the baby, it makes it all seem more real and a lot closer. Can't believe we are all 20 or nearly 20 weeks now. That's half way through!!!!!

We finished decorating our new bub's nursery at the weekend and it looks gorgeous. It's in neutral colours at the moment as I don't think we are going to find out the sex of the baby, although I am getting very tempted especially when so many of you know already. Trouble is I feel like I already have a preference and would rather wait and find out. Anyway, it's been great to get the nursery done as we didn't manage to do it for my ds as we had only just moved house and had 100's of other things to do. So the poor little thing had to move into a room with textured wallpaper and pink and blue floral curtains that were horrible. I was embarassed for anyone to see the room it was that bad.

debinaustria · 21/01/2008 12:57

I spent ages painting ds1's nursery, I made the curtains and then made stencils from the animals on the curtains, and hand painted them onto the walls. Ds2 was born 4 days after moving into a brand new house so his wasn't decorated as such, this poor baby won't even have it's room unless we either move or rearrange rooms and people!! So there's no nursery to decorate this time, just realised that I'll have to find somewhere for all the baby stuff though even though baby will be in with us for 6 months or so. So far baby has 1 drawer.

gr1973 · 21/01/2008 12:59

hi everyone,

Quick post before I go off on my hols tomorrow! Had very busy weekend buying stuff for the baby - all neutral colours though. Also ordered the pram. Started to get quite a wee pile of stuff now. Am jealous of all of you who have started on the nursery... We had our spare room decorated yesterday (before we move lots of stuff from the study/nursery-to-be) into it so am looking forward to cracking on with the nursery post hols.

Anyway, packing to do, passports to find... Good luck everyone that has scans coming up.

Sophie - hope your hand is a little better (dont be rushing back to the washing up tho!)

ChinaSurprise · 21/01/2008 13:59

Afternoon all.

It's a girl!

Guess you were right ernest - so much for "knowing" - harhar. Although I did think it was a girl at the very beginning so I am actually right as usual .

I suppose that evens up the ratios now as there are lots of boys, aren't there?

At least that halves the number of names DH and I can argue talk about.

G43 thank you for asking (and everyone else). Annoyingly they couldn't really give me the all clear. Baby does seem to be mostly on the right side, so it does look like it's staying in the right "horn" (a bicornuate uterus has a crease in it which means when the baby implants one side may grow and the other stays the same)
.
But am 20 weeks now and baby was wriggling around and seemed quite happy so it hasn't run out of room by the looks of it (which is what can bring on PL). Consultant was pretty positive and said if it's not breech (BU means I have a 10 % chance) then I should be ok for a home birth too . If it's breech I'll have a CS at 39 weeks as breech + BU is more risky.

It was sucking its thumb and DH saw it yawn, which was incredible. It's so lovely to see it.

Can't believe it'll be in my arms the next time. Wow!

goingfor3 · 21/01/2008 14:18

Congratulations on your little girl CS! Funny how we had a run of boys and now girls. Really pleased for you that baby has enough space in there. I too found my 20 weeks scan amazing, I have another cervix check in just over a week but don't think I'll ask to look at baby as it won't be as clear as the 20 scan, sounds silly maybe bot makes sense to me!

josey · 21/01/2008 14:40

Congrats CS wow this is turning into quite a pink thread.

Sophie hope your hand keeps you out of action for a couple of weeks at least without any pain at all. Hope your DD enjoys her bday.

Had a silly few days, mums pup was staying with me he is only a few weeks younger than ours though little and large in the breads, it was worse than having a sleep over for 20 2year olds!! Not thats I intend on having 20 2yo's to find out I just assume. Anyway they tried digging to china in the back garden and by the time they dried my utility looked like the builders had been in stoor and mud everywhere took me 2 hours to clean(and it aint big)

Still full of this horrible cold, had to rush DD back to the doc's this morning as she is head to toe in and awful rash and she is itching like mad, allergic to something what who knows, anyway bonus the medicine she now has will make her sleep(slap on the hands for very bad mother comment)

Im now up to ears in housework not that im gettin gmuch done cause all I want to do is eat and drink, new craving is fresh orange with lemonade, trying to slow it with fizz water so not taking in too much sugar.

Seem to have found masses of energy from somewhere maybe the benefits of 2nd trimester are actually going to come my way this time round. can wait for the 3d scan in a few weeks and find out what we are having im so impatient this time where it never bothered me before, I dont mind either way just want to look at pink or blue. Start on the Nursary and order the pram.

nettiehay · 21/01/2008 15:16

Hi all, just been catching up on the past week or so while I was skiing. So much going on - and lots of wee talk! I am also having issues with sneezing, but I think it is my bodies way of forcing me to do my pelvic floor exercises!
Skiing was fabulous in Switzerland, with a couple of minor falls (mostly when I was standing still - stupid!) but one scare where I felt a sharp pain (like a stitch) after a fall. I was so relieved to feel Bug move that evening. He (I keep saying He but have no idea really) was very active in the evenings after a warm shower and doesn't appreciate me bending over or squishing my belly!
Once home, we discovered the washing machine has died, so hopefully the landlord will be able to sort it out soon, as we have all the holiday washing to do, as well as regular stuff! Thank heavens it happens now, not when I need to wash nappies in June!

debinaustria · 21/01/2008 15:55

China congratulations on your little girl and sounds a positive outcome re the birth etc..

Josey sounds like you've got your handsful with puppies and poorly child, hope she's better soon

Gr1973 have a great holiday - where are you going?

nettie Glad you had a good time skiing with no major falls.

Ernest - you're quiet today, everything OK?

gr1973 · 21/01/2008 22:42

debinaustria - I'm off to New York. Just finished the packing - yay!

China - congrats on your little girl, glad the scan went well. Mine is another two weeks away .

Have a good week everyone!
